On Top of the World 【Percy Jackson】

On top of the world, on top of it all, trying to feel invincible

Dying on top of the world

The loud city was filled with the constant car horn honk and the yelling of the residents of said city. The thoughts of a certain demigod swam in his head as he sat on a bench at the top of the Empire State Building. He looked out into the distance to see the soft white light of the moon slowly make its way up the sky. Millions of stars dotted the dark blue sky with its twinkling beauty, but among those stars was a infamous huntress who fought gallantly for the goddess she devoted her life to.

I remember the nights
Caught up in dreaming my goodbyes
Watching the door for anything more than an ordinary life

The demigod remembered when he would stare out the window of his school hoping for something more than the constant emotional and verbal bulling. His peers and the one he lived with hurt him in more way than one. During those times he remembered the daydreams he had of saying goodbye to the bullies, to his "father". Leaving and never coming back. But he knew he couldn't. So he didn't.

I remember the days
New beginnings on an open page
With something to prove, and nothing to lose, not a soul to betray

As he looked up at the stars, he remembered when he could relax with his best friends. Not worrying about the wars and battles that could end his life in very painful and nasty ways. When the camp looked up to him for help, to save them. When the gods above didn't push him into every life threatening situations again and again just to keep them alive and in charge. The day where he would chill with his mom and eating as much as he could. Does he miss those days? With all his heart.

Here I am
Living a dream that I can't hold
Here I am on my own

There he stood on the pavement of the busy tourist spot in all of New York, contemplating whether or not he should end his life. The long fall down to the ground calls to him. Encouraging him to fall, but his brain says other wise. You'd think that he's already have his decision made by now. But he didn't. He knew that ever since his friends left him, or his mother dying, he didn't have the will to live anymore. His girlfriend whom stood with him through tough times convinced him that life is worth living.

Walking to the fence along the short wall at the top of the building, he leaned against it and watched the security guard tell the tourist that touring hours are over. The man walked around the area looking for people who didn't listen, he went to the elevator and went down the building. He didn't notice the demigod because the demigod used the mist to blind the man from seeing him. But as he looked through the opening in the fence, the call beckoned him to go farther. He just stepped away.

I remember the lies
Caught up in building paradise
The angels were slaves, and demons behaved, and everything was alright

He paced the area, thoughts swimming everywhere. The pros and cons of dying were equal to the ones that told him to continue to live. But the one that made dying more appealing was the fact that he had no one left. He didn't have a mother. A person who loved him. A friend to help through this. The demons in his heart told him to jump, hey said that whats the point if no one loves him. However the angels in his head told him that dying wasn't answer. That his father would be devastated to see his son fall from the gateway to Olympus.

Here I am
Living a dream that I can't hold
Here I am on my own

He sat down and leaned his back against the stone that blocked people from falling. His head hurt from the life changing decision. For him and the people who were in his life as well. The camp he called home to the gods who put his life in danger countless times. In spite of all that, would he be missed? Would anyone care to cry at the demigods funeral as they lit his shroud in flames?

He made his decision. But he wouldn't die just yet. Rummaging through his backpack, under the photos of him and his friends, under the letters he sent to his mother and the ones she sent back before she died. He got out a piece of paper and a pen. He wrote his thoughts on why he committed suicide. The reason why his world fell and why he did, then he mailed it with his last few drachmas to the gods above. Then he set up the things he brought for people to remember him. A bundle of flowers of in his favorite colors, a book of photos of his happiest moments and memories. And last but not least the string of beads with his six beads from every summer he spent at camp.

I hear the crowds beneath me
I'm wishing they could reach me
But I'm on top of the world up here I'm dying alone

With his sword he cut open a section for him to sit on the stone. And there he sat looking out into the distance, taking as much of the living world as he could. The busy people below him didn't pay attention to the teenager who was going to end his life. The cars still carried on with their passengers to their destination.

Inside the walls of gold, outside of happiness
(It's all been a show, too late to confess)
No room for heart and soul
No room for innocence, innocence

He stood up from his spot and took a deep breath. The twinkling stars were going to be his last view as a living person. The moon was almost over head, and the lights from the building made it seem as if there were two night sky's. And he was happy he grew up in a city like this. Even though the people are rude sometimes, if he didn't live here, would he be who he was today? Would he have meet so many people? Even if they did leave him, he was still happy.

Then he fell.

On top of the world, on top of it all, trying to feel invincible
On top of the world, on top of it all, trying to feel invincible
On top of the world, on top of it all, trying to feel invincible
I'm dying on top of the world

The slightly cold wind ran through his clothes as he fell. He thought about nothing. No more pain. No more heartbreak. No more wars, battles, responsibilities. All he thought about was the dark blue twinkling sky above him with the moon dead center in the sky. On top of the building where he once stood, he saw people looking down. The gods, The demigod thought as he closed his eyes and thought of a song that reminded him of his situation.
