The doorbell rang, leaving Sero jumping from the sudden noise. Ashley's dad went over to answer the door, while the young couples took a seat on the couch. Hawks made his way out of the room, attempting to find a quiet place to answer his incoming call. The atmosphere of the house started to feel a little hot and moist, due to her mother boiling some noodles, making Sero start to sweat a bit. However, it could be out of nervousness, considering that his leg bouncing up and down. Ashley placed her hand on top of his knee, attempting to calm tape boi down.
"Relax flextape, I'm pretty sure my dad likes you. No need to worry about anything else."
He slowed the pace down, as he held her hand in response, tightening his grip, a form of saying 'thank you'. The windows around the house started to get covered by fog on the glass, the winds outside started to calm down a bit, but the temperature was still low outside. Hawks came back in the living room, putting his phone away.
"I gotta go, Ash. Wish I could stay longer but duty calls."
She nodded and gave him a small and quick finger salute, as he did the same. "Good luck with the whole boyfriend thing." Then he left. Her dad entered the living room once more, as Shinso and Kate both took a seat in the couch. The warm temperature of the home, left a sweet feeling on their cold cheeks and hands. Ren took a seat on the couch chair and crossed his arms analyzing both of his daughter's admirers. Shinso cleared his throat, bringing his attention to him.
"First, I just want to say that I'm really sorry that we came late, I take full responsibility."
He raised a brow. "There's no need to apologize, especially when it's a little difficult to find a way in a private island, at least what I think." The insomniac's fingers started to fidget as he nodded in understandment. Sero suddenly felt some sort of comfort knowing that he wasn't the only one that was nervous, besides Ashley and himself. "So, in that case, since you all are here, I think it's time to get a little serious around here."
The UA students gave a quick nervous glances to each other. "Sero..."
Flextape gave out his uneven smile. "Yes, sir...?"
"What is your quirk?" He raised his brows, suprised he didn't ask a more serious question, but he also thought 'didnt Ashley told him already', he must've forgotten. Shinso however was having a mental breakdown in the inside, he knew he would ask that, but Hitoshi wouldn't know how he would react if he would ask him that instead of Sero. Kate looked up at him, as he stared blankly at the floor, he looked nervous as hell. She rested her head on his shoulder and held his hand, rubbing her thumb on his skin, trying her best to give him comfort.
"I can shoot out tape from my elbows •3•"
Mr. Valentine hummed and gave him a approving smile. "What do you see in my daughter?" Hanta turned surprised, as his cheeks turned into a tint of red. He took a quick glance of Ashley, she looked curious herself, even though she already knew the answer.
"Well, she's the most smartest, bravest, and beautiful person I've ever known..." He switched hand positions with Ashley's, giving her a more comfortable spot.
"I-I admire how she quickly makes a plan for certain situations in battle, how she doesn't hesitate to save a person's life, the way she's always academically prepared, the way she gives out her small smiles, her way of giving her love, her rare laughs, h-her eyes...." Sero smiled to himself, he could go on all day, but he's pretty sure they got the idea.
"Basically, everything about her is just...so perfect."
Kate placed her hand on her chest, teary eyed, while her father gave out a sappy smile. Ashley felt the butterflies flying around again, she tightened her fingers around his.
Her dad looked over to Shinso who was still lost in his own thoughts. Kate tapped his shoulder, and making him snap back into reality. He looked over to him, looking a little stressed out. "Hey, no need to be nervous. Do you need a minute?"
Hitoshi cleared his throat. "Y-Yeah." He stood up and left the room, Kate fiddled the cloth of her baby blue sweater, she looked towards at Ash, giving a 'what do I do' look. Ashley thought for a second, soon she mouthed 'check on him, duh', her sister quickly nodded. Hitoshi came back, awkwardly leaning on the doorway.
"Sorry, but uh, do you know where the bathroom is?"
Her dad was about to speak, until Kate interrupted him. "I-I'll show him," She said, letting out a bright smile.
She quickly walked over to Shinso and gave her dad a smile, attempting to show that nothing was wrong. He looked at her confused, but shrugged it off, deciding to talk with Sero more as Kate dragged Hitoshi upstairs. They both entered the closest bathroom they could find, Kate locking the door during the way in. Shinso sat on the cold tiled floor, digging his fingers through his purple locks, as Kate crouched down to his level, filled with worry and guilt.
"I'm fucked, Kate," He muttered. She began sit beside him as she leaned her back against the tub.
"Relax Toshi, I'm sure he'll like you." He look over to her, doubt written all over his face.
"Yeah, I'm sure he'll like the fact that I'm able brainwash whoever I speak with... YEP he will DEFINITELY not worry over your safety...YEAH HE WILL NEVER THINK THAT!!" Kate looked down at floor, beginning to play with the fabric of her sweater.
His body started to tremble and tense up, Shinso could feel his heart racing.
"AND YOU KNOW WHAT?! IF YOU WOULD AT LEAST COULD'VE TELL ME SOONER ABOUT ALL OF THIS, I PROBABLY WOULDN'T HAVE A FUCKING PANIC ATTACK RIGHT ABOUT NOW!"
She hesitantly placed her hand on his back, rubbing on the fabric of his jacket. "Maybe you need to take a breath-"
He forcefully removed her hand away from him, she felt suprised over his sudden action.
"Please....just dont..." He shakily said.
Hitoshi was starting to sweat a lot, she began to slide herself across the floor in front of him. Both of his hand went through his hair, as he began to remember all the bad experiences he had that were mostly related about his quirk. Shinso remembered how he was badly treated, ever since he was small, all the beatings, hurtful words, the constant bullying, people who gave him fake hope, he had go through with it all. Hitoshi had to act like it didn't really matter what they did or think, but deep down, it hurted him.
Kate felt heartbroken to see him like this, he kept shaking, he could feel his chest tightening. She carefully placed her hand on his lap, not wanting him to feel any more anxious than he already is. Hitoshi looked up at her, she gave out a reassuring smile, however, she felt shameful.
"It's okay, just let it all out, breathe...." Kate felt like bursting in tears, her guilt was too much for her to hold on to.
Shinso started to calm down, but he kept shaking. He still felt afraid for over what her family had to say about him, he wanted to be a part of her family, he wanted to prove to them that he's able to take care of their daughter. Hitoshi let out a shaky breath, placing his forearms on top of his knees. Both of them sat in silence, as all the sounds outside the bathroom were muffled. He slowly started to calm down, he sighed.
"Sorry...I should've-"
Kate interrupted him with a tight hug, resting her chin on his shoulder. He felt her body shake, hearing her quiet sniffs, and feeling her tears making wet stains on his jacket.
"N-No... I should apologize... I-I should've asked you if you really wanted to come, instead.... I just dragged you along," She croaked, making her voice crack in between sentences. Kate began to bury her face on his jacket, as her hands gripped the fabric from the back.
"I-I didnt even a-acknowledge i-if you were okay with it. And I just placed you in a position where you......even though you-" Shinso hugged her tight, she stopped speaking and continued to cry on his shoulder.
"Hey, no need to be upset, kit." He rubbed her back as she continued to sob, wiping her tears away as they fall, but would form more.
"I'm s-sorry..."
Hitoshi planted a kiss on the side of her head, making Kate calm down a bit, her breathing pattern continuing to stutter.
"I'm sorry too."
The cold temperature that surrounded that bathroom made both of their body heat bounce each other.
"No, don't apologize..."
The comfort of his body heat, helped her calm down, trying to regain herself once more, as the insomniac continued to rub her back. Kate rested her head against his chest, she felt Hitoshi's heart beat softly playing on her ear. It started out slow for a few seconds but suddenly started to quicken the pace. He cleared his throat making Kate sit up, showing her slightly puffy eyes.
"We should head back, I dont want your parents getting the wrong idea."
She wiped the tear stains that were on her cheeks with her sleeve. "But w-we can come home early if you want to, I-I can make up and excuse, I-I'm sure they'll understand. We dont have to do this."
He sighed and smiled, wanting to take her offer but he'd rather show her parents, how he's fit enough to be apart of Kate's life, not wanting any future problems ahead.
"It's okay, I'll manage."
Shinso stood up on his two feet and offered his hand towards her, which she gladly accepted, helping her up. She gave a quick peck on his cheek, still a little shy for giving out kisses, even though they've been dating for months now.
"Love you, kit" He smirked, bending his knees a bit to kiss her cheek.
"Love you, too."
Suddenly, the sound of shuffling can be heard on the other side of the door. Hitoshi looked down at the little gap that was under the door, there was a shadow that blocked most of the light that was seeping through. He unlocked and opened the door, making Kate's dad lose his balance and fell, landing on the cold bathroom floor. "Apologies, sir. I thought you were someone else."
He picked himself, as Kate crossed her arms. "So, your quirk is brainwashing, huh." Hitoshi gave her a worried glance, Kate held his hand, giving him a reassuring squeeze. He turned the two of them, as he began to analyze Shinso.
"You look familiar...hm...you were in the sports festival, right?" He nodded, her dad rubbed his chin, thinking about the event when he saw his daughters in the crowd of the stadium when students started to spar each other. He remembered the broadcast of the sports festival, he watched it with his wife wanting to cheer her daughters on hoping they could win. They saw other fights too, including Sero's and Shinso's.
Her dad looked over to Kate, he squinted his eyes. "How long have you two been dating?"
"Eight months," She smiled. Ashley knocked on the sides of the doorway, not wanting to make things awkward. Everyone looked at her. "Sorry but...uh...dinner is ready."

"More tea anyone?" Mrs. Valentine tiredly asked. Everyone shook their heads, and continued to eat the rest of the dish.....well....except for Kate and Ashley's dad. He didnt even touch it, he just kept staring at Shinso, like the weirdo he is. Hitoshi and Kate tried to ignore it at first, but they both started to feel uncomfortable as time passed by. The atmosphere in the dining room was a bit rough, their mom tried to break the ice, but it would always come back to everyone staying quiet, at least it wasn't too quiet from all the fork and chopsticks scrapping on to the plates and bowls. Sero looked over to Ashley, confused on why his future father-in-law was only staring at Hitoshi and not him.
"Did something happen in the bathroom orrr...."
She turned to him, slurping the stack of noodles that were in her mouth, swallowing the entire thing. "He found out about his quirk, flextape..."
"Oh...yikes..."
The overwhelming feeling of discomfort was too much for Kate to bear, she rather eat in peace than to deal with all of the awkwardness through the whole dinner. She looked over to her dad, and tried her best to form a smile. "Dad, your food is getting cold." He continued to stare, keeping a straight face, and arms crossed, she started to get a little frustrated, while her mom just watched as the situation unfolded, quietly eating her noodles. "Dad, please stop, you're making him uncomfortable." Her mom then thought enough is enough, she placed her hand on his lap, making him draw his attention towards her. She furrowed her brows. "Why are you acting so strange out of nowhere?" She removed her hand and grabbed her chopsticks. "I mean you were always weird...
. but.....it's more than normal. What's going on?"
He ignored her question, as he turned back to the insomniac. "I dont think I ever asked your name..."
Toshi looked towards him, making Kate feel a little anxious, while Sero and Ashley kept eating, watching the action happening. "It's Shinso, Shinso Hitoshi...."
Her dad hummed, taking a deep breath, his wife squinted her eyes at him, guessing what he's up to this time. Kate nervously took a sip on her warm tea. "And what is your quirk...exactly."
She gulped, secretly praying all will turn well. Her mom noticed her daughter's uneasy state, she looked over to Ashley, but she just responded with a shrug, knowing exactly what was happening. Shinso cleared his throat, as Sero wondered why this moment felt so intense out of nowhere.
"Brainwash." Ashley's mom started to choke on her food, as her husband just sat there, she soon kept her shit together. Ashley started to wish she could come back home and start cuddling with Sero, cringing at cheesy romcom movies, the only thing she wanted to do right now instead of seeing the disaster coming into play. Sero was sadly thinking the same thing, he would rather watch ripoffs of 50 shades of grey than seeing his mother-in-law choking and dying from a noodle. They both sipped on their tea, ignoring whatever is happening at the moment.
"And how does it work?"
Shinso quietly sighed. "When a person verbally communicates to me, I am able to put them in a state where they can...well...obey...any one of my commands. But-"
"Did you use it on Kate?"
He looked caught off guard over the sudden question, but he furrowed his brows. "You didn't let me finish." Her dad gave him a stern look. "You didn't answer my question." Aranami cleared her throat, everyone looked at her, she turned to Sero and Ashley, giving both of them a sweet smile.
"You two are excused."
They both looked at each other and quickly went out of the dining room, but Sero stopped, went back, grabbing a plate full of pastries that were on the middle of the table. "You dont mind if Ash and I eat all of this, right?" She raised a brow and chuckled, moving her hand in a waving motion, letting him know he could take it. He smiled, popping one of the little cakes into his mouth, as he walked back to Ashley in the living room. She turned back to her husband, giving him a glare, crossing her arms.
"Ren! Let this gentleman, speak. I can't believe how quickly you jumped into your conclusions."
"At least I didn't choke from a damn noodle..." He mumbled.
She huffed, then she looked back at Hitoshi, wanting to hear what he had to say.
Shinso thanked her, Kate just layed her head on the table, hoping this would all end soon. Why did she think that they could get through this so easily, she basically forgot how overprotective her father can be when it comes to any relationship. If only her younger self didn't mess around with those villains, maybe this situation can be prevented.
"Look, it can only be activated when I want to use it. I can control it."
"Then tell me! How can I be so sure that you won't use it on her! Against her own will!" He growled. His wife held his hand, tightening her grip, ordering him to calm down.
"Dad-"
"I won't force her to do anything that she doesn't want to do....anything that may physically or mentally hurt her. "
"Like I'll take your word!"
"WHAT?!"
"Guys-"ಠ益ಠ
"Don't feed me with your lies!"
"My god!" Hitoshi turns to Kate and points his thumb at his dad. "Is your dad always like this?" Kate nervously giggled, not knowing what to do.
Ren heavily breathed out. "Kate, I dont know what you see in him." She lifted her head and crossed her arms.
"That's because you never ask, neither did you try to find out what he's really like. Unlike you, I dont see what his quirk tries to portray him as..."
His face softened, as Hitoshi raised a brow. "Look, I'm just trying to protect you, I'm just scared what he might do to you." Kate frowned over his comment. "You know, Dad.... ever since he was little, he has been judged over what type of person he could be, only because he had the ability to brainwash people. Thinking he could become a perfect villain..." Shinso awkwardly sat in silence, as her parents kept listening. "...But you know what! I see a person that has soooo much potential, I bet he could become the greatest hero of them all. He's smart, straightforward, compassionate, determined....heck I could go on! I dont know about you, but I think he's just perfect for the way he is."
Her dad looked over at her mother, not sure what to say. She scoffed, returning her attention towards the two, she rested her chin on the back of her two hand, her elbows on the table for support.
"I appreciate on your defense. However, I want to make things right, lets start over." Her daughter smiled, she sighed in relief.
"So, how did you two meet?" She softly smiled.
Shinso and Kate got startled over the question. She placed her finger on her chin, looking down at the table, searching through her memories.
"Well, for me, I guess it kinda started at the sports festival..."
"Wait, so we have to spar each other?" Kate squeaked. Ashley kept staring at the huge billboard, showing who was fighting who in the battle tournament. She scratched her head as she turns to her, disappointed. "Yeah I guess so. Not gonna lie, I was hoping for someone more challenging." Kate felt a little offended over her comment, but she knew her sister had a point. They both spared countless times, even before they went to UA. Both of them know each other's weaknesses and strengths, however she hoped it could be a tie, Kate would rather not feel bad for winning, but she doesn't want to lose either. Ash would probably feel the same, but she was more focused on winning, wanting to be able to rub her shiny golden medal on Bakugou's face, Kate doesn't blame her, he really is pretty hot-headed and self-centered.
"Hey Midoriya, looks like you're up against...uh...Shinso?" Ashley rubbed her chin as Izuku was buried into his own thoughts, staring at the screen."Hm, never heard of him," She mumbled to herself. Kate tilted her head, maybe she should introduce herself more outside of her class. Then, she felt her shoulder suddenly jerk onward, as a purple haired guy passed through. "Hey! Watch it! o(≧□≦)o"
He ignored her as he walked over towards broccoli boy. "That is you right? Izuku Midoriya?" Izuku jumped as he said his name, Ashley raised a brow but she kept continuing to analyze the bill board, her bows raised when she spotted the words Sero and Todoroki next to each other. She wished the best of luck to him. Kate grabbed her arm, quickly trying to find her way out of the stadium, as Ash let out a confused expression.
"C'mon! I want to able to sit in the front row seats."
Present Mic started to yell on the microphone, as he introduced the two students that were going fight each other. Izuku Midoriya and Shinso Hitoshi. The crowd cheered as the class rooted for their fellow classmate......except for Bakugou. They both stood in their positions, waiting for Present Mic to scream start. Kate looked excited, waiting what's in store for us, while Ashley took out a bag of popcorn she was hiding. As soon as he let out the signal, Izuku immediately charged at Hitoshi, yelling something while he was at it.
But all of a sudden, he stopped, Kate and Ash looked at each other, confused. They couldn't really hear anything that they were saying, due to the crowd making so much noise. Midoriya started to turn around and slowly walk outside of the stadium, Kate pulled her hair as Ashley kept stuffing her mouth full of popcorn. "What is he doing!?!!" Ojiro stood up placing his hands over his head. "I warned him not to say anything!" Kate looked over to him confused. "What do you mean?" He expression turned into worry, as he kept his attention towards Izuku. "His quirk, he's able to control minds, but from what I experinced, I think he's able to use it once you talk to him." Kate let out a silent 'oh', Ash sighed. "So much for all the action, bummer."
Izuku kept on walking towards the other end of the field, getting closer with every step he took. He was almost close towards the section that was out of bounds, but his fingers started to light up as he was about to lose. Ashley squinted her eyes, making sure she wasn't actually seeing things, all of that interrupted when a big explosion of wind violently blowed towards the crowd. She protected her bag of popcorn, as everyone got hit from the wave of wind. Kate didn't really expected this to happen, as she sat there in shock and confusion. It slowly started to calm down, leaving almost everyone hooked on to the battle, Ashley smiled, finally something interesting is going to happen.
"HOW'D YOU DO THAT?!?!" He screamed. Kate looked surprised when Izuku went back to his normal-self again, he covered his mouth, reminding himself to not say a word. "C'mon! Say something!" But he just furrowed his brows, knowing damn well what Hitoshi was trying to do. "I didn't know you had so much power in your fingers, I'm kind of jealous of you!" Izuku then started to charge after Shinso, once he was close enough he began to push him out of the field, but Hitoshi wasn't going to let that happen without a fight. "Say something you idiot!" He punched Midoriya but he kept pushing, until Shinso punched him again, this time on his broken fingers, and turned him around, switching up the roles. He tried his best to push Izuku out of bounds, but that's when broccoli boy had enough. Midoriya grabbed Shinso's arm as he flipped him over, as his back took the hard hit on the ground, the wave of pain took over his whole body. He played there in the floor, frustrated over his loss, as the crowd cheered.
Ashley gave out a small smile, slowly clapping her hands. "Not bad." Ojiro slouched on his seat, relieved that everything turned out okay. Kate happily jumped up and down, but she later stopped, seeing Izuku not looking too happy. "Shouldn't he be celebrating...." Ash only responded with a shrug, finishing the last piece of popcorn that was in the bag. She sucked in her teeth, trying to take the bits and pieces of popcorn that were in between her teeth, out. Shinso started to walk away after Izuku bowed down to him, as he was in the bottom of the stairs, he began to speak to Izuku about what he longed for, his place in the hero course. To be honest, he did show he had potential, even though he lost, but he did have room for improvement. Other students and pro heros started admire how strong his quirk was during the battle, it left Hitoshi a warm feeling.
Kate wanted to know more about this guy, she was curious to know who he really was. She hummed, thinking over ways to find out more about him. Steal the teacher's documents about him?....No.....Stalk him and watch his every movement?.....wait...WHAT!...NO! Y'know what! Just talk to him like a normal person. All she has to do is just wait after the sports festival ends.
"Wait...why were those two your first options to think of?" Shinso whispered. Kate nervously smiled, patting him on the shoulder.
"You want to...what?" Ashley said, confused, as she closed her locker. "I want be friends with the purple haired guy," Kate smiled. Her sister looked over to Mineta, he was too busy staring at Momo, at a long distance. "You mean that little freak over there?"
"What?! No! Not him. The guy that fought Izuku in the sports festival." They both started to make their way out of the school, students from all classes were dismissed. "I dont know, Kate. I just get the feeling there's something...off about him..." She commented. Soon, they were out of the school building, the sky was mixed with warm colors, as the cool breeze started to settle in. The clouds were pink and fluffy, slowly moving where the winds take them, Kate sighed, she couldn't find herself to agree or disagree with her idea. "Maybe I shouldn't, I don't think anyone would like that, if I managed to hang out with a person that threatened our class to take their place." She kicked a rock as they kept walking on the sidewalks. "Look, we're still at the beginning of the school year, you have plenty of time to make friends and all of that junk. Besides, we have Midoriya, Iida, and Ururaka."
"Yeah...but we dont really hang out with them that much. You're even close friends with Sero already, and that's saying something. I don't know....am I really that unlikable?" Ashley sighed, her stomach started to rumble, she really needed to eat something. She looked around the streets, then her eyes stopped on a cafe. "Hey you don't mind if I buy something from over there right?" Kate looked over towards the cafe she was staring at. It looked crowded. "Sure go ahead. I'll wait here." Ash nodded, quickly crossing the street to head over to the entrance of the cafe. Kate sighed as she hovered herself in the air, 'sitting' cross legged, waiting for her sister. The cold breeze started to make her hair messier more than it already was, hoping her mother wont scold her about it, once they both arrive home.
Suddenly, she heard faint meows from the distance, her eyes perked up, searching for where the noise was coming from. Kate looked around, but she couldn't find anything. She released her legs from the position they were in, and began to land on the ground. Kate began to follow the sound of the cat's meows and purrs, but it lead her into a alleyway. She didnt went in head first, knowing how a million things could happen in there, so she kept her guard up. Kate peeked her head away from the wall that was next to her, towards the alleyway. Shinso was there, softly stroking the back of the cat's fur as it purred. It was a fluffy siamese cat, the almighty creature closed its eyes, while he brushed her fur with his fingers. Hitoshi formed a small smile, making him feel relaxed while hearing the purrs from the cat. Kate thought this was pretty adorable, she really wanted to introduce herself but she didn't want to disturb them either. Kate was honestly surprised over the fact that he had a soft spot, hmmm.
The feline started to open her eyes, and jump out from Hitoshi's lap, leaving him a little upset. He stood up, this gave Kate a signal to leave, she hid herself behind the wall, and made her attempt to walk away, but the cat from before stood in her way, sitting on the middle of the sidewalk. Kate jumped over her sudden appearance, as the cat rubbed herself between Kate's ankles. She felt unsure on what to do at this point, as the cat rested her paw on her shoe. Kate crouched down and hesitantly started to pet it, her hands started to shake while she stroked her fur. "Dont be afraid. She won't bite." Kate gasped in surprise as she heard Shinso's voice. She stood up and turned behind her, and there he was standing. He looked pretty tired, actually, it could be how he normally looks but who knows.
The feline walked over towards Shinso, as he picked her up, cradling her. "I'm assuming you've never touched a cat before..." Kate nervously smiled and nodded. "Yeah, um...did it looked obvious?" He quietly nodded, beginning to stroke the cat again. He looked a little uncomfortable from this little conversation they were having. "Is she yours?" Hitoshi shook his head.
"No, I found her in this alleyway, she was looking through trash to find food." The cat purred against his touch, closing her eyes in enjoyment. "I'm Kate," She smiled. Hitoshi continued to massage the feline's fur, keeping his attention towards it.
"I was wondering if we can be friends." He stopped, the cat looked up to him. "You are aware what my quirk is, right?" Kate nodded, still keeping the smile on her face, he raised a brow. The cat licked the back of her paw and began to stare at Kate, she waved at the feline as she let out a small mewl in response. "I've seen your fight with Midoriya in the sports festival. I-"
"Then you should be smart enough to know that you should stay away from me."
He was starting to walk away but Kate went after him.
"W-Wait! Dont you want to try if this can work out?!"
Shinso shook his head. "I already know how it's going to end up...now leave me alone..."
She began to wave her arms around. "Please!! I just thought that you seemed to be a interesting person! Besides, there's nothing wrong with gaining a friend."
He raised a brow. "Well, you have terrible taste on choosing people to be your 'friend'."
She crossed her arms. "I mean you look like you don't have any friends either." He kept a straight face, as the cat attached her claws into his jacket. "Sorry, I-I didn't mean to be rude." Shinso just shrugged and turned around, walking away from her, the pet still in his arms. "I-I'm really sorry," Kate repeated, showing she really meant her apology, but he kept on walking.
She flew after him, and started to walk next to him. Hitoshi looked suprised over this, guessing she was serious,he maintained his posture. "You're that desperate to gain a friend?" Kate sighed and nodded.
"I guess so. I dont really want to be a burden to anyone since most of my class are too busy. Especially, my sister, I dont want to get in her way so-"
"You would rather bother someone that you don't know.
"I....umm... er......w-well...."
"Dont worry, you're doing a pretty good job at it."
Kate scoffed. "Gee thanks...."
"My pleasure."
She stopped following him, this made him turn around. "I have to go, I dont want my sister to worry about me for too long." He shrugged, and continued on to his walk home, his messy hair bouncing at every step he took. "Wait!" Kate yelled out, she cringed on the way her voice cracked. Hitoshi looked over to her, keeping his tired look on his face, she started to think that might be his resting face. "Um, I dont mean to be rude, but...you haven't told me your name."
He sighed, the cat yawned showing off it's small fangs, she was clearly bored. "Shinso Hitoshi." Kate smiled, bowing down. "Nice to meet you." She picked her head up, but her eyes widened, he was gone. She looked around her surroundings, but couldn't spot his noticable purple messy hair anywhere, she sighed as she flied back towards the spot where she orginally was.
"Why didn't you stay with her?" Her dad asked, in confusion. Shinso sipped on his cup.
"The cat was hungry, and I didn't want to make her wait any longer. Plus she didn't look she had a home or a owner, so I wanted to give her the care she needed as soon as possible. "
Her mom placed her hand on her chest, admiring how much he cared for a homeless animal. She leaned over to her husband. "I like him already."
"Can I continue now? ಠ~ಠ"
The next few days were pretty uneventful, more lessons, more studying, more training, it felt exhausting. Good thing it was Saturday, the day where they get to relax...at least that's what she thought when her body started to ache. Kate woke up from the pain fading in from everywhere, she groaned as she rolled over her bed. The sound of typing can be heard over the other side of the room. Kate roughly placed her pillow over her head, trying to put herself to sleep again, Ashley's phone dinged when she received a message.
"Who are you texting?" Kate murmured. She kept her fast pace on typing a text on her phone, as her fingertips rapidly tapped on the screen. She was lying down on Kate's mini couch. "Sero."
"Why can't you text your boyfriend on your room? I'm trying to sleep."
Ashley stopped typing and looked over to her with a stern look. "We're just friends..."Kate tiredly giggled. "Well, he's a boy, and he's a friend, sooo-"
She later got interrupted by Ash throwing a pillow cushion at her. "Ow 。:゚(;´∩';)゚:。"
"Anyways, Mom and Dad are going to Paris for their anniversary. They both left at like four o clock in the morning, and they said that I was in charge. So, yeah, I gotta watch over you or something." Ashley said, as she kept texting Sero, arguing which restaurant they should eat at.
"But I can take care of myself," Kate whined. Her sister gave her a fake and exaggerated smile. "Good. Cause Sero invited me over to eat with him."
She raised her brow. "Just you?" Ashley nodded.
"I think he likes you." Her sister, gave her a puzzling look.
"What makes you say that?"
"Well, haven't you noticed how he's been acting differently when he's around you?" She lowered her phone down, giving her attention towards Kate. "I've seen him stare at you when you're not looking during class. He always to impress you when it comes to sparing. He turns red whenever you compliment him about anything, he even invited you over to eat for crying out loud! Mina even pointed out how he sometimes looked very nervous when he's around you! It looks pretty obvious that he likes you."
Ashley's eyes were wide the whole time, now that she thought about it, maybe he did catch feelings for her. She remembered how she ignored the signs, just thinking Sero was just feeling sick and stuff. Kate got herself out of the bed, stretching her arms and legs, as she began to walk herself out of her room. Her sister just sat there, her thoughts burying her head, looking back on how many signs she ignored or brushed off. Kate took out a white sweater and black leggings out of her closet, placing her brown boots on the floor. She quickly changed and slipped her boots in, Kate headed over to the bathroom, she rapidly and aggressively brushed her teeth, making sure to kill all those bacteria and cavities on her teeth. Brush your teeth, kids ( ꈍᴗꈍ)
She looked herself in the mirror, squinting her eyes, inspecting her hair. Her hair was more curly and messy than ever. Kate shrugged leaving her bed head alone, what was the point of brushing if its gonna get messed up again by the winds. "Where are you going?" Ashley crossed her arms, leaning against the doorframe. "Cat cafe. I could actually use some coffee." Ash raised a brow. "Yeah, I get the coffee thing but why at a cat cafe?"
"Remember what I told you about the brainwash guy. How he had a soft spot for cats?" Her sister sighed, rubbing her eyes. "Let me guess...you're gonna practice on petting a cat."
"Yep :D"
"What?! No! Kate, you can find someone else to be your friend, just please not Shinso. I don't think I'll like the idea of being careful on what I have to say everytime I speak."
"I think he's just a person that's misunderstood. Besides, he didn't use his quirk on me-"
"Yet! Not yet! God, what did you put yourself into...."
Kate grabbed her shoulders, looking up at her, as she squeezed them tight. "Look, I'm going to show how all of you are wrong about him. I dont know...but he doesn't look like he did anything wrong yet ...Ashley sighed, pointing her finger at her.
"You can be so ignorant sometimes, but, for your sake, I hope you're right. But just be careful, alright. Our parents will kill me if something bad happened to you."
Kate smiled, releasing her shoulders. She made her way to to front door, getting ready for what lies ahead. Ash watched her as she was about to leave their home. "Say hi to Sero for me!"
Kate hovered towards the cafe, her legs hanging over the side walk. She opened the front door and letting herself in, the smell of coffee beans started to linger in the air as the door behind her closed. It felt warm, the atmosphere the cafe gave out felt safe and innocent. She wondered to herself, how come she never thought of coming here, this place looked great. Kate headed over towards the counter stand, where a employee was standing. It was a elder lady, she looked busy skimming through the documents, Kate wanted to get her attention but she didn't wanted to come off as rude. "U-Um excuse me." Her head perked, giving her attention towards her customer, she formed a sweet and soft smile. "Hello. Welcome to Cat Town Cafe. Is there anything I can help you with?"
"I would like a table for...one." She said, awkwardly. 'C'mon, Kate! Dont be awkward! Act like this isn't weird!'
"Of course, but since your obviously new here, I'm going to have to show you some rules and guidelines you'll have to follow during your stay." Kate nodded as the woman placed a paper that had plastic protection on it, on the counter.
"Every hour you stay here will cost $15, You're not allowed to use your quirk during your stay. I'll have to require you to disinfect your hands before you touch any of the cats." The student nodded, as she continued. " Don't show any aggressive behavior towards or around them. Petting is allowed but picking them up is not. No smoking or vaping. You're not allowed to bring any other animals in this cafe. Lastly, please dont feed any cats with the food and drinks that your ordered. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them."
Kate smiled. "Nope. I'm good." The woman smiled back, placing a paper on a clipboard and a pen on the counter. "I just need you to sign your name here and write your time of arrival." She signed her first and last name, she quickly checked the time on her phone, and wrote 11:03. The employee escorted her towards a empty table. The room looked empty, well, except for the cats roaming around, lying down on the floors, and sleeping on the couches, and that guy on the other side of the room...wait....
Kate quietly panicked as she saw Shinso sip on his cup. The woman squeezed the bottle of the hand sanitizer, gently grabbing the student's hand, the drop of the disinfectant landed on her skin. Kate slowly rubbed her hands together, the employee looked at her confused, she looked over to where she was staring at. The woman seemed to get the hint.
"Oh, is he a friend of yours?"
Kate looked back at her. "W-well not really. But we kinda know each other.
The elderly woman smirked, leaning herself towards Kate's ear. "I've known him ever since he was in middle school. He really is a good kid once you get to really know him. He's humble but he's actually a big softie-"
"I heard that..." Shinso intruppted. Kate nervously giggled, a white cat started to pat his paw on her leg. She got startled over the sudden touch, but crouched down, starting to pet at him, he then became uninterested, walking away.
"If you want you could sit with Hitoshi if you like," The woman offered. Kate stood up, not sure if he would agree. "If he's okay with it."
Hitoshi looked down at his cup of coffee, as he watched the milk swirl. He responded with a shrug, the woman sighed in relief, happy that he'll finally be able to make connections with someone, other than herself. "I'll go grab the menus." Kate nodded, making the owner leave the room. She looked over to the insomniac, awkwardly standing there.
"Are you gonna sit down or what?"
She nervously smiled. "Sorry..."
He sighed, she sat down on the other side of the booth. A black cat jumped onto the seat that was next to Shinso, he began to softly stroke its fur. "To be honest, I really didn't expect you to be here." She fiddled with her thumbs under the table. The same white cat from before approached Kate, he attempted to rest his body against her lap. She looked suprised over this, looking over to Hitoshi for help. He shook his head. "Just leave him be, he doesn't really do that often. You should feel honored."
Kate looked down at the feline, his eyes were closed and she could feel him breathing. She hesitantly hovered her hand against his fur, she didn't want the cat feel unsafe or anything, but she always seen in the movies where a character who has a pet would always pet them while their sleeping. She held out her first two fingertips, and gently placed on the top of his head. The cat's ears twitched once she made contact, she began to stroke his fur, making him purr. Kate gasped, feeling like she won a achievement, Hitoshi didn't really expect that to happen but it was close enough.
The woman came back with the menu, handing it over to her. Kate looked through the menu, skimming through meal after meal, drink after drink. The lady took out a mini spiral notepad and pen, waiting for her order. The black jumped under the table and layed down on the floor, playing with Kate's boot laces.
"I'll just order a coffee."
"Would you like any milk?"
"Yes."
"How many spoons of sugar?"
"Two spoons, please."
She nodded as she quickly wrote the order down, she grabbed the menu and made her way over where all the coffee machine was. Kate continued to stroke at the cat on her lap, he let out a purr, she placed her two fingertips on the top of his head, and made her way down on his back. She repeated the routine, Shinso watched on how weird Kate was stroking his fur, it kinda bothered him.
"You can use your whole hand y'know..."
Kate looked up at him, he sipped on his coffee.
"Right, sorry..." She shakily placed her whole hand on his fur, trying her best not to make any sudden movements that will wake him up.
"Relax, it's not that hard."
"S-Sorry..."
"And stop apologizing."
"Okay...(⇀‸↼‶)"
Kate placed her hand on his back and began to brush his fur, his purring started to grow louder. She silently celebrated, feeling like she won the olympics, Hitoshi just rolled his eyes, taking another sip from his coffee.
"Why are you even here if you dont know how to pet a cat correctly...."
The elderly lady came back with her coffee, Kate thanked her, as she went back to the counter, looking through her documents again. Kate held her finger out, telling him to give her a moment, while taking a small sip on her drink. It tasted sweet but not too sweet, just how she liked it, she placed the cup down.
"I came here to actually try to teach myself on how to pet a cat."
He crossed his arms. "One, if I wasn't here, I'm pretty sure you won't learn anything. Two, you'll just torture these innocent kittens...." The black cat, started to walk away, wanting to play with the other felines. "Three, how come you don't know how to pet a cat? It's one of the most easiest things you can do..."
Kate started to remember that her mother was a vet, but she only took care of animals that were on the island, there wasn't really any cats or dogs that were on the area, sometimes Ashley and herself would help their mother on simple things, like passing the tools she needed, and trying make the animal calm down so she could easily make check ups.
"I haven't really been around a cat before." Hitoshi raised his brows, suprised over her response. She continued, "I've seen them here and there on the streets or around people, but where I grew up in is mostly island, part is tropical and part is beach. Cats weren't really roaming around in the area."
He looked down at his cup, sliding his finger across the rim. "I dont know whether to laugh or feel pity for you." Kate furrowed her brows, still grooming the white cat's fur with her fingertips. "At least your petting is getting better..."
"Wait...really?"
"Yes, but don't let it get to your head."
She smiled over his "compliment", the cat started to rub his cheek on her thigh, satisfied over her touch. Hitoshi formed a small smile, knowing what the kitten was doing, he took another sip trying to hide the grin on his face.
"Can I ask a question?" Kate hesitantly asked. In response, his smile faded away.
"Sure..."
"Okay..." She started, taking another sip on her coffee. " Why aren't you in the hero course?" He raised a brow. " I've seen how powerful you're quirk was in the sports festival. I saw you walking in the arena with the general studies students, before the festival started, and I've never saw you in the other classes that were in the hero course. It never made sense to me how you were in general studies. Plus one of my classmate's quirk is just sticky balls in his hair, I dont know how you didn't take his spot in this year...."
Shinso leaned his back on the seat. "I'll give you a hint, the entrance exams..."
Kate looked confused but later slowly realized what he meant, pulling the puzzle pieces together. "You weren't able to brainwash the robots, since they couldn't talk or have any mind at all, right?!"
"Ding, ding, ding, we have a winner." He sarcastically said. She frowned over discovering the unfairness of the entrance exams.
"Gee...I never thought..."
"It's fine, really. Things are starting to work out for me in the past few days."
She tilted her head. "Like what...?"
He let out a shrug, hoping that will somehow cover his tracks. The white cat started to wake up from his nap, he yawned and jumped on the table. He sniffed onto Kate's cup, Shinso gently picked the cat up and placed him on the floor.
"Wait, you broke a rule! •□•"
"He was about to drink on your cup..."
"That's illegal. I'm calling the FBI!"
"Just drink your fucking coffee...."
"I really thought she was annoying at first," Hitoshi explained to her parents. Her mom nodded in agreement.
"I dont blame you," She sighed.
He chuckled. "But the more we spend time together, the more I started to get used to her presence."
Kate stepped in. "My fear over him brainwashing me at any second started go away. But Hitoshi was still unsure on how I actually felt about him though. He still managed his distance, not wanting anyone to criticize me over my friendship with him."
"So she decided to come over to my place after school, almost everyday. That's where I was most comfortable to spend time with her. I liked the idea of no one giving us any stares or looks as we minded our own business."
Her dad raised a brow. "So what do you guys do when you're both hanging out..."
Shinsou went quiet, trying to remember what they actually do together. "First, I mostly helped her with homework, she wanted my second opinions over her answers, since her sister was often busy after school. Then, we just do whatever we want to do at the moment, before it's time for her to leave. But there are days when I'm not able to spend time with her, since I'm busy training with her teacher."
Kate's dad gave him a suspicious look, squinting his eyes. She blushed, knowing what he was thinking.
"N-No! We didn't do that, Dad! He didn't have feelings for me yet but I did. He didn't know I liked him, and I didn't had the courage to make the first move. So, r-relax...( ●//////////● )"
"...At least not yet anyway..." Shinso mumbled.
Kate placed her textbooks inside her bookbag, zipping it closed. She sighed in relief, she finally finished studying the chapters she had to read and memorize. It was going to be in the quiz, but luckily that quiz is in Monday, and today is Friday, yay! The siamese cat that she met the that day played with Kate's zipper on her bookbag. Shinso did manage to adopt her, her name is Pocket now. It was a weird name to choose but Kate thought it sounded cute. Everytime she came over, Pocket always greeted her by laying a paw on her ankle. She had to look after Pocket while he was gone, he's been hitting the gym, ever since she saw him walking with Mr. Aizawa in the hallway, Hitoshi was focused on keeping himself healthy and all that junk. Kate stroked the fur that's on the top of Pocket's head, and made her way down to her back, repeating the pattern.
She sighed as she started to think of Shinso again, the feeling of butterflies in her stomach started to overwhelm her. Kate started to gain a little crush on him for the past seven weeks, she asked for her sister's advice, she said to look for any signs that shows he likes her back, like, blushing, being nervous for no reason, sweating when she's around, complimenting her more often, looking or acting jealous when she's with other guys, etc. But Kate couldn't really find any signs of Hitoshi doing any of that, at least in her eyes, if he really had feelings for her, he would probably say it right away due to his straightforwardness. However, on the other hand, he could he really be trying to hide or resist it, being too afraid that Kate wont feel the same way, because of his quirk.
She did her best to give out small signals that she liked him, but unfortunately, he didn't get the hint at all. Two weeks ago, Kate knew that Shinso knows how to sign language, he was taught about that when he was younger and had to communicate with his parents with that. He told her that when they were talking about what their families were like, when they were hanging out in the park. So she figured to teach herself to sign "I love you", that way she wouldn't worry about herself stuttering when speaking. However, Kate only practiced once, thinking that she will be able to remember it. Spoiler alert, she quickly forgot when Kate met up with him.
They were both walking together to school that day, she figured it was time to finally confess her true feelings to him. Hitoshi kept talking about his goal to be able to transfer to the hero course, so he could become a hero and possibly spend more time with his only friend. She kept waiting for the right moment to tell him, as her nervousness started to accelerate. They eventually both stopped near a crosswalk, cars passing by, the traffic light hovering above the road glowed green. Shinso sighed, continously pressing the crosswalk button next to him. Kate took this as a perfect opportunity.
"Hey...Toshi..."
He turned his head and looked down at her. "Hm?"
She nervously smiled, hovering her hand in the air. She held out her pinky first, then set it down, she held out her finger and her thumb to make a L shape, and finally, formed her
whole hand into the rock and roll symbol.
Hitoshi smiled, holding his hand up to his mouth to keep him from laughing. Kate raised a brow.
"U-Uh, did I....u-um..."
He chuckled. "Would you like to know what you said?"
She nervously nodded, hoping she didn't embarrass herself.
"Well, you said 'I love bullshit' "
Kate felt her soul drain from her body, her face turned very red, as she placed her hand on her forehead. He smiled, he looked over at the headlights, it turned red, they both walked towards the other side of the street, Kate felt embarrassed to even follow him.
"You know, you could've told me if you wanted me to help you to learn sign language...."
She let out a nervous laugh. After school, he would eventually teach her how to use the language. Every lesson he gave to Kate, made her remind about her mistake. She couldn't get over that embarrassing moment because he would at times tease her about it. Hitoshi would also sometimes flex on Kate about how fast and fluent he was able to communicate with his hands. She learned the basic stuff, like signing the alphabet, saying hello, goodbye, thank you, good morning, my name is..., etc.
But yeah, she couldn't really tell what he Shinso really thought about her. It was hard to tell on which route he would take, maybe he doesn't love her at all, maybe...he only saw her as a friend, nothing more.
Her vision started to get blurry, she could feel tears forming on her eyes, she didn't wanted to cry, but her emotions tell her otherwise. The cat looked up at her, as soon as she felt Kate removing her hand away, she meowed, wanting more of her touch. Kate sniffed, wiping her tears away, she felt so pathetic over crying the possibility that he'll never feel the same way. Pocket moved closer towards her, she sat on her lap, beginning to snuggle her head against her chin, she felt some tears fall on her fur.
"I-Im sorry you have to see me like this, P-Pock.." Kate hicced. She only yawned in response, showing off her tiny fangs. "He'll come back soon, don't worry..."
Kate thought if she wasn't so sensitive, then maybe, just maybe, he may like her even more. Her sleeve started to get all soggy over the countless wet tears she had to wipe, she breathed in and out attempting to calm herself down. She rocked her body back and forth, it gave her some sort of comfort, but it was enough to make herself to stop crying. The sound of crickets started to slowly come in, the warm colored sky started to die down as it started to turn dark, stars coming along with it. She realized that her mom might start to worry if she didn't come home soon.
The front door opened, revealing Shinso in a tired state, Pocket walked away from Kate and jumped towards her owner's arms, he formed a small smile, placing a kiss on top of her head. Kate wished she was in Pocket's place, she soon shrugged it off, realizing how weird that sounded. She picked herself up from the ground putting on her bookbag as he gently placed Pocket on the floor. Kate's phone started to ring, Hitoshi raised a brow, she gave him a reassuring smile, answering the phone call.
"Hello?"
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN HELLO?! KATE WHY AREN'T YOU HOME YET?!"
He could hear her mother screaming over the phone, he felt a little bad over keeping Kate waiting for too long.
"I was...u-uh taking care of a friend's cat..."
"WITHOUT TELLING ME?! KATE! YOU MADE ME WORRIED SICK!!! I WAS BEGINNING TO THINK SOMEONE KIDNAPPED YOU!!!
She could hear her father trying to calm her down in the background. Shinso started to feel guilty.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make you feel worried, I was just helping a friend out."
Hitoshi quietly offered to help her out but Kate refused, not wanting to include himself in this mess.
"Mom, I take-"
He quickly grabbed her phone away from her, Kate looked shook over what happened. Hitoshi put the call in speaker, making sure his close friend can hear her clearly. Hitoshi had to repay for taking care of Pocket, after all.
"I take full responsibility."
"Who is this?!"
Kate worriedly looked at him, she was secretly freaking out in the inside, and he knew.
"I'm the friend your daughter was talking about."
"What's your name, young man?"
Kate rapidly shook her head no but he ignored her.
"Shinso..."
"I assume she's in your home right?"
"Yes..."
Her mom and dad started to step away from the phone, arguing whether or not she should come back home right now or the first thing in the morning.
"You wont mind if she stays at your place-"
Kate leaned her head closer towards her phone. "M-Mom! I can just fly myself back home, I'tll be quick."
"Look, Kate! Ever since that little stunt you pulled when you were younger, It was clear to me that I can't easily put my trust over you."
Shinso raised a brow, she mouthed to him, 'I'll explain later.'
"Just text me frequently, and if anything happens, you know what to do..."
"Mmhm..."
Hitoshi yawned. "I'll take care of her."
"You better, or I'll kill you myself. Anyways....take care."
The phone call ended, leaving him baffled. He gave her back her phone, as she gladly took it, but she felt embarrassed over the situation that occurred.
"Does your mom always act like that?"
Kate placed her bookbag down, on the nearest corner of the living room. Pocket was sleeping on her bed, making loud purring noises, guess she might've used all of her energy for the day.
"Sometimes....But I dont blame her though...." Her cheeks started to feel warm. He let out a hum, he began to head over the bathroom, a towel on his hand.
"Since you're staying here, just make yourself at home. But dont get too comfortable."
Kate nodded, as he entered the bathroom, closing the door behind him. She began to notice that she didn't bring any clothes to change over the night, guess she has to sleep with her UA uniform on. The sound of the water spraying in the shower echoed through the home, it reminded her how dry and cold her hands were. She looked down at her hands, the skin that was on the center of her palm started to peel off, the rest of her hand was strangly fine. The dry environment her quirk made during sparing was normal, at least for her, Kate thought about adding some fingerless gloves into her hero suit design. It would be able to protect the palm of her hands from all the dryness, while using her quirk, maybe she could put some armour on that to make it even more useful, she made a mental note for that. She rubbed her hands together, making the flakes of her dead skin fell on her lap, she sighed.
Kate was also thinking about adding goggles with her suit, her eyes due tend to feel dry over her winds constantly blowing on her face, and especially all the stuff that can go in her eyes like dirt, her hair, bugs, etc. It was really annoying, she had to often stop to rub her eyes, to deal with either the dryness or the stinging pain of the pieces of whatever it was. She loosened her tie, and began to take it off, it was practically choking her, who created ties...?
The bathroom door opened, the smell of soap started to linger in the air, he came out in changed clothes and a towel over his hair, he threw his dirty gym clothes in a hamper. She wasn't used to Shinso with his hair down, but she was still amazed on how different he looked, not that he didn't look bad or anything. It was nice to see his hair have a break for a change.
Kate giggled as they both sat down on the couch. He removed the towel on his head, revealing his wet, messy locks, he squinted his eyes.
"What's so funny?" Shinso formed a small smile.
She crossed her arms. "Nothing. It's just I wonder how you keep your hair up when it's dry."
"You ask the dumbest questions...."
"By the way, do you have any lotion I can borrow? My hands are a little dry."
Kate put up her hands for him to see, cracks were starting to form on her palms, dead skin were hanging on some areas. He grabbed one of her wrists, to get a better look at her dry hands. She cleared her throat as her face turned red.
"I-It's one of my side effects of using my quirk for long periods of time. "
He gently placed the tip of his finger near her cracked skin, slowly and carefully dragging it around the cracks. It tickled but stinged at the same time.
"Does it hurt?"
"A little."
"Okay...one sec..."
He got up and went to the bathroom again, the sound of cabinets opening and closing can be heard. Her hands weren't that badly dry, but there was a time where she had to really push herself when Mr. Aizawa wanted every student in her class to try and go beyond their limit. Her hands were severely cracked, and a little bleeding started to occur, that was the only worse thing she experienced from her side effects. Dehydration was also one of her side effects but it wasn't really a problem, she could just ask Ashley for some water or find some and then boom, problem solved.
Shinso came back with a light yellow colored moisturizer, Kate's eyes lit up, as soon as he was close to her reach, she attempted to grab the small bottle. But he held it up in the air, not allowing her to grab it, she frowned when he sat next to her. Hitoshi carefully cupped her left hand, as his other hand hovered the bottle over it.
"I can do it-"
"No, I'll do it."
"I'm not a 5 year old..."
"But you act like one...."
Kate huffed. "I've done it before, it's not hard."
He squeezed the bottle, letting a small fraction of the substance fell and landed on her palm. The smell of sweet honey started to come out of the lotion, as Kate rubbed her hands together. Hitoshi placed the moisturizer on the coffee table.
"Do you like anyone?"
He raised his brows, suprised over her sudden question. She nervously played with the fabric of her blouse, avoiding eye contact.
"Why you ask?"
If this was that disney movie 'Inside Out' Kate's emotions would be going in full panic mode, but she had to try her best to look unbothered.
Kate shrugged. "Just wondering..."
Hitoshi thought for a moment. "As a friend or as a lover."
The adrenaline started to rush in, Kate felt like she was going to explode. " As a l-lover....."
He took a quick glance at her, he noticed her nervousness. Shinso never really saw her this way before, he started to connect the dots. The sudden question, her constant blushing and nervousness, how she looked like she was about to barf at any second, he knows something's up.
"Kate..."
"Yeah..." She still avoided eye contact.
Hitoshi felt like he did something wrong, but he didn't know what he did. "Can you look at me, please?"
Kate looked up at him, playing with her fingers to calm her anxiety. He could see her pupils starting to dilate. His mind clicked, finally knowing why she was acting this way.
"Hey...are you tired?"
Kate sighed in relief. "Yea-"
She suddenly felt disconnected from her body, everything felt so hazy, she couldn't move. Kate started to mentally panic, she couldn't believe this was actually happening. Hitoshi gave her a serious but tired look, he wanted to see if his theory was correct.
"Tell me the truth, who do you love?"
Kate felt like curling into a ball and die, she didnt feel ready to handle his rejection when she was going to tell the truth. She pleaded for someone to take her, right here, right now.
"You."
Hitoshi's breath started to shake, he couldn't believe it, he was right. Kate felt like crying, she thought if there was no response from him, then it meant the worst, there goes there friendship. He just sat there, not moving a muscle, he was just speechless. He continued to stare at Kate, while she was still under his control, he took the time to keep himself calm. Shinso gave her a nudge on the shoulder, bringing his close friend back to her old self. Kate didn't wanted to come back but here she was, basically shitting herself.
"I-I'm so s-sorry..."
"What for?"
She looked at him confused, tears started to roll out of her eyes again.
"That I have feelings f-for you?"
He tiredly hummed, placing his hands over her shoulders, she felt goosebumps around her arms.
"I guess I also have to apologize too..."
He formed a small smile, making Kate's heart flutter.
"I'm sorry that I feel the same way"
Kate gasped, her eyes still blurry from the tears that were escaping from the corners of her eyes. Hitoshi chuckled, wiping the droplets that were on her face.
"You can stop crying now."
She was still in the state of shock. "I-I was so scared, I couldn't tell if you liked me or not."
"Me neither, I thought you didn't like me only because...of my quirk....I'm sorry I doubted you..."
Kate cupped his cheeks and smiled, sniffing her tears away. "You don't need to apologize, your quirk is a part of who you are, and you don't need to be ashamed of it. Besides, I think it's pretty cool."
He formed a small smile, resting his forehead against hers. "I love you," He whispered as he signed what he said.
She giggled, tackling him into a hug, making Hitoshi lay his back on the couch. Kate rested her head onto his chest, hearing the sound of his heartbeat. She smiled over the soft pounding against her ear, she felt herself fall into ease. But as soon as she started to feel comfortable, he flipped her around, this time Kate was the one laying on the couch. He placed his hand on top of her cheek, caressing her skin with his thumb.
"I want to do this right."
She looked suprised and nervous, she never thought she would be in this position but here they are. He placed his thumb on her bottom lip, a million thoughts were running through her head, as he leaned closer to her.
"May I?"
Kate nervously nodded, he leaned in but she quickly stopped him, placing a finger over his lips.
"B-But I have to warn you. I-Ive never done this before, s-so I might be bad at it."
He smiled, he still looked fatigued from his training session."Okay. Do you want me to go slow?"
Kate gave him a worried look. "You look tired, I dont want you to worn yourself out.....maybe we can do this another day..."
"I'm fine," He whispered. "Besides, I feel tired all the time..."
"O-okay..."
He leaned in once more, he brushed his lips against hers, making her face turned red, her eyes half way closed. He began to make the first move, carefully kissing Kate, afraid that she might break into pieces. Kate kissed him back, hoping she was doing this right. Hitoshi interlocked his fingers between hers, holding both of her hands. She wondered what would Ashley think of dating someone like him, she thought of all the positive outcomes that can come into play.
They both continued their makeout session, there were times where they had to pause to take a breath, but that didn't stop them. Hitoshi pulled out, they were both out of breath, Kate really didn't wanted the kiss to end but she didn't wanted to be pushy either. However she placed that feeling aside when she saw the mix of tiredness and compassion that showed in his eyes. She slowly slipped her hands away from his, not wanting to hurt his feelings, unconsciously placing her two hands on the side of his cheeks.
"Hey, you should get some rest. You just got out from your training, I dont want you to strain yourself."
Hitoshi tiredly planted a kiss on her forehead. "Dont worry about me, Kitty..."
Kate internally screamed over her new nickname. He rested his head on the top of her chest, she was starting to think he was just trying to tease her again, making fun of her about this day in the future. His eyes were getting heavy, as he weakly reached for her hands. But she stopped him, grabbing his hands, as he looked up at her.
"Hitoshi...please...get some sleep."
"I haven't even showed you how much I love you yet..." He mumbled, starting to drift off to sleep.
She ran through her fingers on his slightly wet locks, he hummed over her touch, closing his eyes, Hitoshi was beginning to wonder if this what Pocket feels when he pets her. If so, he would want to be petted all day.
"Do you want to sleep on your bed?"
Shinso let out a small groan, pressing himself closer towards Kate, shuffling his head on her chest even further. Her blouse started to feel a little wet from his poorly dried hair, she shivered over the cold feeling of the water droplets staining on the cloth.
"H-Hitoshi...you should head to your bedroom, I'll go sleep in the couch."
"No..." He quietly muttered. "You're sleeping with me.... I have to keep an eye on you, remember?"
Kate continued to play with his hair, laughing over his response.
"I can't go with you if you don't get up."
He rested his cheek on top of her chest, his eyes closed. "Can't you just fly us over there or something." She raised a brow, her fingers started to get tangled over his hair.
"Why?"
"Because..." He shuffled his head again, starting to enjoy her natural scent. "...you feel so....so...soft...and I dont want to let go of you....you're so comfortable..."
She blushed, Shinso could hear her heart beat picking up the pace, he weakly smiled.
"Y'know what, I'll just....yeah....."
Kate carefully floated the two of them off the couch, she began to hover towards his bedroom, while making sure she doesn't hit a wall or anything. She has been in his home many times, so she remembers where everything really was. She wrapped her arms and legs around him, not wanting to him to slip off, that might disturb his rest. Once she was in, Kate layed herself down on his well-organized bed, the warmth and softness of his covers felt really nice. Hitoshi felt her body relax, he wanted to show his appreciation for her, but his tired state was keeping him from doing it.
"I love....you....kitty....." His voice drifted off, he finally started to let himself sleep. Kate looked down at him, shyly kissing the top of his head.
"I l-love you too. Sleep tight..."
They both told them the 'kid-friendly' version of that memory, not wanting to them to think twice about their relationship. Her mom smiled, sipping on her cup, she admired how he kept his promise over keeping an eye on her daughter. Her dad was starting to warm up to him, maybe he wasn't so bad after all.
"So yeah, that's how I kinda confessed to him," Kate smiled.
Her mother started to remember on how her husband confessed to her, he was a total mess, his voice kept cracking it was so hard for her to understand what he was trying to say. However, it took him over an hour to try and keep himself together to finally let everything out of his system. She quietly giggled over that memory, everyone looked at her confused.
"I'm sorry, it's just that you're father was just as nervous as your were, when he wanted to confess his declaration of love to me."
Her dad frantically shook his head, sliding his hand across his neck, to tell her to cut it off.
"Wait, really?!" Kate smiled.
She nodded, he started to feel embarrassed. "He could barely function when I accepted his confession. Hell, he almost passed out-"
"I t-think that's enough, honey...."
She smirked, knowing how red his face was, Shinso started to laugh. She placed her cup down, looking back at his possible future son-in-law, she crossed her arms.
"Now....I know how much you love my daughter and you're willing to protect her...but here's the thing..."
Shinso and Kate gave each other a worried look. She continued, "....I don't believe it when I see it..."
Her father looked at her, raising a brow. "Are you gonna spar with him? Like how you spared with Sero...?"
"Exactly....it's the same rules, you have to win to earn my blessing...."
She gave both of them a serious look, Hitoshi furrowed his brows. Her mother thought it was necessary for her to see how far they'll go to be able to win, it would also determine how badly they want to become apart of this family. Sero passed the test, successfully restraining her to the point where she couldn't move. But of course, he struggled to wrap his tape around her due to how fast she was splashing water at his face at every few seconds. His determination to get her blessing was enough to keep him going and win.
Shinso wanted to prove his worthiness to be apart of their lives.
"I'll do it."
She smiled, liking his answer.
"Good...."
"Toshi...Just be careful...she won't go easy on you...." Kate said, worried over him. He smiled down at her, wrapping his arms around her waist, trying his best to give her comfort. She rested her head on his chest, she started to get anxious over the possibility that he might lose. He held her close, kissing the top of her head.
"I'll be fine."
Her mom waited for them to finish, she was standing at the other end of the mat. The rest of the family were sitting or standing on the gym floor, a few feet away from the "arena". Sero wished him the best of luck, he remembered how hard it was to even get close to Ashley's mom.
"Okay. Again, be careful...."
Kate headed over to where the rest were, Ash patted her back, telling her it'll be fine. Both opponents were wearing their usual workout clothes, giving them more space and flexibility to move around from, their mom allowed this so no one would complain over anything. Their dad didnt wanted to give any criticism towards her wife over sparing with a teenager, he didn't feel like sleeping on the couch again. Filled waterbottles were opened and aligned behind her, their were a few that were placed there, Sero felt goosebumps forming in his skin. Ash placed a hand on his shoulder trying to soothe him from his "trauma".
Her mom formed into her boxing stance, she was going to have during this.
"You ready?"
Hitoshi furrowed his brows, readying into his fighting stance.
"Ye-"
Water violently splashed on his face, the liquid went inside his eyes, he instinctively started to quickly rub his eyes. She threw another wave of water at him, he could hear the water rushing towards him, Shinso quickly front rolled on the left side of the mat, he wiped his face with his forearm.
"HEY! THAT-"
She punched towards the direction where he was, making the water follow. He got splashed again, he squinted his eyes to protect them. He charged at her, he couldn't think of a plan, she knows how his quirk works, so their was no point of trying to make her talk. The liquid pushed him away with so much force, his chest started to hurt. He fell backward, his back smacked against the mat. Kate started to play with her thumbs, hoping he could find a way to win. Hitoshi's hair and clothes were getting all wet, her mom laughed, enjoying the sight of his failure.
He growled over the pain that rushed in, the bruises on his back weren't really helping at this point. Water droplets started to fall out from his hair, he wanted to get up, but he couldn't. No joke, he actually couldn't move, her mom walked over to him, keeping her hands towards his direction. Ashley raised her brows, realizing what she was doing, bloodbending.
Shinso kept groaning in pain as he looked up at her, she was smiling, a shiver went up his spine. Kate started to walk after him but her dad stopped her, holding her wrist, he shook his head. He realized that her mom was close enough, he struggled to pick his arm up, Hitoshi gritted his teeth, trying to overcome the pain but he couldn't. She threw him towards the wall, the hit stuck him on the side, her husband felt guilty over letting her daughter seeing him getting beat up by her mother. Sero just sat there, quietly watching. Hitoshi got up, leaning himself against the wall, she stopped, seeing his tired state. She didn't wanted to get herself to carried away, she only wanted to see their best on how he would try to fight for her daughter. Aranami started to give him a little test.
"Should we stop?"
"NO!...no....let me do this..." Shinso declared, placing his hand on his lower back, wincing over the pain.
He took a breathe and ran after her, she formed a genuine smile, appreciating his will power, and liking his answer. She quickly splashed water on him again, he almost lost his balance but he swiftly regained it, dodging other hits she threw at him. Shinso was close enough to tackle her down, he jumped at her but she quickly blocked him with water, turning the liquid into a wall of ice. His body landed on it but the balance of the ice was flawed, his weight eventually broke the wall, as the small pieces flew. She didn't had enough time to run, but only to turn her back, so he landed on her. Hitoshi quickly grabbed her arms from her sides and forcefully placed them behind her back. She struggled to get him off, this made him put pressure on her arms, wanting her to yield. Aranami tried to kick him on his back, but her feet weren't able to kick his spine, they were pinned down by his weight.
She sighed, accepting her loss to victory. However, she was impressed over his strategy. Shinso got off of her back, sighing in relief, her mother got up to her knees, he held out his hand to help her up, but she refused. She picked herself up, brushing the pieces of ice that were on her clothes, she looked over to him.
"Congratulations, you earned my blessing. I'm counting on you to take good care of her."
He formed a small smile, bowing down, looking at floor.
"I promise, I will."
She raised a brow and chuckled. "There's no need for all that bowing nonsense, stand up. You're part of the family now."
He stood up and nodded, wiping the sweat that was rolling down on his forehead. Sero stepped in.
"That goes for me too, right?"
"Yes, but I told you that last time you visted... remember..."
He scratched the back of his neck, nervously laughing. "Yeah...yeah...I remember now..."
Ren stepped in looking over at Aranami, crossing his arms.
"Hey! Don't I have a say in this?! My opinions matter too..."
She rolled her eyes, resting her arm on his shoulder, she sighed. "Yeah...go ahead....not that anyone cares..."
He sarcastically started to look offended over her comment, but he started to act serious again. Ren looked over to Shinso, he thought he did pretty good, he just hoped that it wasn't all just a act. Although, he did see how badly he wanted to "win", just to be a part of Kate's life. For him, it was enough to see how Hitoshi really cared for her. Her dad removed his right glove, holding out his hand for him to shake.
"Welcome to the family," He smiled.
Shinso raised his brows, he hesitantly shook his hand, suprised over his happy attitude. But that quickly changed when Ren started to squeeze his hand tight, furrowing his brows. He could hear and feel his fingers crack from his tight grip, knowing what's about to come.
"If you ever hurt my daughter in any way, or even try to abuse your power on her, you better start fucking praying. No matter where you hide or go,I will chase after you, once I find you, I will make sure you die in a slow and painful death. Burning every item you own as I force you to watch it getting destroyed. I will break you if you break her heart. I WILL make you regret it, understand....?"
Shinso winced over his hand being crushed, he nodded. Her dad quickly formed a smile again, releasing his hand, crossing his arms.
"Well, I guess it's settled."
His wife facepalmed, he really needed to work on threats if wanted to appear intimidating. Kate squealed, hugging Hitoshi tightly, but she stopped and quickly pulled away, her clothes were all wet now. "Aw man...." He chuckled and shook his head, heading towards the bathroom to dry himself up. Sero looked over towards Kate.
"You know....I didn't think you guys would be a thing till today...."
Kate hummed. "We tried to keep our relationship a secret... buuuuuuttt we figured that we shouldn't feel ashamed on dating the ones we love. I just hope the rest of the class won't mind about him and me. I really don't want to cause him more trouble than he's already dealing with."
He smiled, resting his hand on her shoulder. "Relax, I'm sure they won't mind. Besides, you look pretty happy from the past few months, he must be doing a number on you."
She sighed in relief, forming a small smile. He released his grip from her shoulder. "I can say the same for you. I've never seen Ashley smiling often since we were kids. She really loves you, Sero. Even if she seems all grumpy and moody, she will always have a soft spot for you, I can tell."
He looked back at Ash, her back was facing his direction as she talked with her mom and dad about how their life was like in their dorms. "Yeah I know....she is just...incredible.
..."
His eyes scanned across her body. Her hair, face, hips, legs, chest, basically everything about her was just perfect. Kate snapped her fingers against his ear, he blinked a few times, trying his best to look away, but he just couldn't.
"Careful there buckaroo, she's my sister."
He crossed his arms. "She's also my girlfriend."
Kate smiled, she placed her hands up in defeat, he deserved that win. "Jokes aside, I really do think you guys are great for each other. Promise me, that you wont forget to invite me for your wedding. "
He chuckled. "Heh, I promise."
"Sero! C'mon let go! I want to be able to eat takeout tonight without feeling tired!" Ashley yelled, heading out the gym.
He nodded at her. "I'll see you around, Kate." He waved goodbye as he ran after Ash, finally being free from this home. She waved back, seeing both of them leave, holding each other's hands. Hitoshi came back, with a bag full of his wet clothes.
"Should we start heading out?"
Kate shrugged. "Well, Sero and Ash left, so I guess...?
They both started to walk out the gym, waving their goodbyes to her parents.
"Please keep her safe and give her all the love you can offer, but not too much," Her dad pointed out.
Shinso nodded and continued to find their way out. Aranami waved her goodbyes at them until they were out of her sight. Once they were finally gone, Ren began to wrap his arms behind her, resting his chin on top of her head. He sighed in relief, finally they were both alone.
"Honey...do you think I'm ready to be a grandmother..."She mumbled.
"Don't you think it's a little too early to be thinking that..."
She sighed, crossing her arms. "Yeah I know...but I want to be ready when the day finally comes...the day my girls start to decide to have children...."
He kissed the top of her head, to ease her worries. "Well, no one ever is ready. "
She rubbed both of her arms to give herself more comfort.
"Time just goes by so fast, once you see your kids sitting there eating legos, than the next, you see them with a boyfriend, wishing them to have a happy life together...."
He softly smiled. "If you think you're the only one that's worried right now, you are very wrong. Besides, we're supposed to be, they're our kids for crying out loud."
Aranami placed her hands on top of his. "Yeah, you're right, Ren."
He sighed in relief. "Now....since the kids are gone...I was thinking if we can have some...'alone' time," He chuckled.
She raised a brow, looking up at him, she gave him a fake smile, Ren looked at her confused. Then out of nowhere, Water splashed on his face, he scrunched his face up, not wanting the water to get in his eyes. He released her from his grasp to wipe his eyes, she began to laugh. She loved the way his face scrunched up, she thought it was cute. Ren wiped his eyes, blinking the droplets on small eyelashes away, he looked down at her, furrowing his brows. Aranami smiled as she started to walk out of the gym.
"C'mon goggles, you're gonna help me with the dishes," She stated.
He sighed and began to follow her, so much for the devil's tango.
<Meanwhile>
"Hey I think someone's coming. I should check-" Sero placed his finger over Ashley's lips, making her stop taking. "Shhh! Here comes the best part!"
The woman that was in the movie, wandered outside the building, looking for any bathrooms. It looked quiet, showing that the woman was the only one outside. "Why would she check the bathrooms outside? What a dumbass... " He chuckled over her comment."
"I mean nothing makes sense in this movie, anyway." The woman checked on the other side of the sidewalk that she was on, the camera showed no one there, but as soon as she turned around to walk back inside, a man appeared out of nowhere. "Are you lost, babygirl?" They both cringed as soon as the main character said that. When the woman turned around but look back where the man originally was, he was gone. This made Sero burst out laughing, his chest bouncing up and down, with Ash's head along with it. She was currently laying down on Tapeboi, trying to kill time. Ashley took a bite out of her food, smiling over how Sero was laughing. "HAHA! Who the hell is the director of 365 days! *wheeze*
She looked up at him. "Someone who doesn't know how to write." He looked down at her and smiled.
"C'mon, you can do better than that." Ash sighed, trying to think of anything else she could add. But she felt too tired to even think. "I dont know....if 50 shades of grey and twilight had a child they never want to talk about, it would be this movie...?"
Sero shrugged and kissed her forehead. "I'll take it." They both looked back at the screen, continuing to cringe at every moment in the movie, as they ate (name of any takeout food). The temperature in his room started to drop, the cold that came from outside started to come in. She started to shiver as she felt the sudden cold breeze hit her skin, he looked down at her, feeling her shaking.
"Hey, you okay?"
"Is your window open(ò□óˇ)?!"
"Uhhh..."
He looked over at his window, it was open but his blinds were down, but it did nothing to stop the dropping temperature from coming in, he hummed. Hanta poked her arm, she looked up at him.
"I'm gonna get up, can you....you know."
Ashley nodded as she rolled over towards the other side of his bed. He sat up, and began to make his way over the window, she began to go under his covers, trying to find warmth again, forming herself in a fetus position. Ash shuffled her head against the pillow, enjoying the soft and thickness of its fabric. Sero closed the window and came back to bed, he began to enter himself in his covers, laying down behind Ashley. He wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her close to him.
"Sorry about that."
She shivered over his cold arms touching hers, she furrowed her brows.
"You're cold..."
Sero rested his chin on top of her head, he chuckled.
"You're warm."
She scoffed, as she continued to watch the "movie." He started to enjoy her body heat radiating on him, it felt so comfortable, it made him feel joy over the fact that she's still here with him. Sero sighed, he wish they could do this more often, but since the wings of the Heights Alliance were separated by gender, it was kinda hard to spend more time together, well not really, Sero just wanted Ash by his side at everytime and everyday. They both felt bloated over the takeout food they ate, it didn't really help their tiredness in this case.
Her eyes started to get heavy, she was starting to feel exhausted. He could feel her breathing pattern and heartpace slowing down. Sero looked over at time on his laptop, it was 10:41. He reached over his laptop and closed it, it was getting late for a school day.
"Hey, Ash..." Hanta whispered.
She groaned in response.
"You should sleep in your dorm, I dont want you getting in trouble."
Ashley turned around to face him, she pressed his face against his shirt, wrapping her legs around his.
"I want get in trouble if I get caught. My door is always locked," She mumbled. "I'm assuming your door is locked too."
Sero hummed, her hair started to get messy from her shuffling around. He smiled, kissing the top of her head again.
"Goodnight."
"Night," She muffled.
He closed his eyes, attempting to make himself go to sleep.
"I love you."
Ash groaned, she just wanted to sleep in silence.
"...I love you too. Just let me sleep, please..."
He chuckled, pulling her even closer, Ashley had to turn her head in order to breath. Sero yawned, he was starting to feel tired, he slowly drifted off to sleep.
Kirishima stepped away from Sero's door, looking over at Kaminari, who was still pressing his ear at it. "See dude, I told he wasn't going to do it. You better start paying up."
Denki grumbled as he reached over his pocket, taking out a twenty dollar bill, as he hand it over to him. "Man, this sucks...I wont be able to hear them hitting it off." Eijiro looked at him in disgust.
"Bro....are you serious...? Have some some morals, dude..."
Denki raised a brow. "You were the one who agreed to do this bet..."
"You were the who created this bet," He reminded, crossing his arms. They both stared at each other furiously, however Kaminari was only mad because he lost the bet.
"The hell are you two doing?" Bakugo stepped in.
They both jumped over the sound of Katsuki's tired, rough voice. He wanted to go to the bathroom but he overheard the familiar idiotic voices he had to deal with everyday. Bakugo of course looked tired but kept his resting bitch face. Kaminari nervously smiled, shaking his hands.
"Nothing, I was just.....just....." He looked over to Kiri, wanting him to help him out, but he just shook his head.
"Hey you're in the wrong too dude," He exclaimed.
"Yeah I know but I only did it for the money. I wasn't the one whining about both of them not doing it, just saying¯\_(ツ)_/¯"
Bakugo placed his hand inside his pockets from his sweatpants. He noticed that they were in front of Sero's room, Kiri used the keyword "both", and he knew that flextape is in a relationship with Ashley. Katsuki's soon figured out what he thought waat he thought was going on. He began to walk away. "You both are fucking disgusting..."
Eijiro furrowed his brows to Denki, he didn't wanted him to think he was a pervert or anything like that. He stood up as he walked back to his room, shaking his head at Kaminari. He kept the dollar bill in his hand though, he got what he wanted. Pikachu sighed, as he also walked back to his dorm, maybe the bet was a bad idea after all.
Inside Sero's dorm, Ashley sighed in relief, glad the whole thing that happened out there was over. She started to plan to have a little talk with Denki and Kirishima, first thing in the morning. But right now, she wanted to focus over her moment with Sero, enjoying it while it last. Ash kissed his cheek, as he let out soft snores, she went back to sleep, pressing herself closer to gain more of his warmth and touch.
