Mermaid tutorial for @kylie_weasleyxo (and anyone else who wants to try) (pt 2)
Here's the reference again, so you don't have to scroll up and down between parts
(Again, don't own this)
Ikr, so thoughtful of me 💅✨ /j
Anyway, let's continue
Now this thingy
Draw a curved line from a little bit under the border line (told you you'd need it) and connect it with another curved line
Draw a leaf-like thing under it and add the cut-like thing in it
Then draw a line from behind the biggest fin and connect it back with another line
Back to the arms again (sorry for the bit of eraser over there, don't let it disturb you)
Draw a line from the shoulder to the elbow (you might have noticed I already erased part of my sketch line - it's because I had to draw the line multiple times, but you can still use it as a guide and erase it later)
Then connect the wrist with the elbow
Be careful not to make the lines completely straight, otherwise the arm is not going to look that real
Make the lines curve a bit like I did (you can look at the reference or at the picture above)
(Omg that bit of eraser is so annoying, istg I've tried to swipe it away like three times already XD)
Connect the elbow with the shoulder with a line, curl it inward a bit at the elbow (because the arm is not straightened out - try to get your arm in this position and you'll see what happens)
Then connect the elbow to the wrist
Again, be careful not to make the lines too straight, because if you do, the arm is not going to look real
You can look at the reference or my drawing to see how the linez curve
Now for the hair
I'm not particularly good at hair but I tried my best
You can try to copy the reference if you want to
Draw a curved line from the forehead (the hair starts a bit behind the head - look at the reference) and a bit above the head
Continue the line, curving it a bit as you go, and then going back with another line - for one strand of hair
Repeat the process to get multiple strands of haid
For the hair behind the ear, draw a line across the forhead, curving it a bit, and go behind the ear
Repeat the slight curving, like with the other strands, and connect it back behind the ear
For the rest of the hair, just repeat the process with the strands from the one behind the ear down
For the one closest to the neck, you can draw it over the back-of-the-neck line and connect it back behind the ear (that way you don't have to worry about the neck anymore - just look at the reference)
I forgot to mention this for the arm - don't erase the big circle from the beginning - that's where the sleeve would be if she had one
Now the most complicated part - the face
Draw the nose a bit in front of the face - if you look at the reference you see that the nose and the face below it are a bit in front of the rest of the face
Draw a line from the nose and connect it to the jaw
I kind of messed up on the mouth here, but above all make sure that the lower lip/jaw is not in front of the upper one and that it's not too close to the chin
(Also ignore that little spot on the cheek - idk what that is, I couldn't erase it)
Draw two slightly curved lines for the eye and connect them with a third
To draw the iris, just make the connecting line thicker (only on the inside!)
The eye doesn't need a back line, but you can connect the two lines anyway
Your drawing should look something like this now (sorry for the bad quality :/)
You can stop here, or you can draw something she's looking at too
I'm going to draw a shark, but if you want, I can do a tutorial for other things like a fish or octopus
I normally draw a lil arrow, pointing to where whatever I'm drawing is looking, so I know approximately where to put the next thing
The position of it (in this case, the shark) then depends at where on its body the previous drawing is looking
Draw a triangular shape for the head and curve it down, narrowing it as you go
Finish it bumy curving like this
You can put it in any other position too, and if you want a reference or guide, you can go on Pinterest or YouTube
Add the fins, eye, gills and mouth
Then two fins at the bottom, about halfway between the tail and the front fins, and one right above the two small fins
Add the tail
Your shark should look something like this, you can also add a waving line for a lighter stomach if you want
And there you have it - a mermaid and a smol shark
All that's left it to erase the sketches
You can leave it as it is or shade or colour it
Or both hehe
If you want you can post your result (pls tag me if you do :>)
You can ask me for any other tutorial, but I would ask for a reference, if you do :)
Now, as is tradition, for my amiga
Bai
