Small rant
Triggers: s*xual ass*ssult, s*icide
Adults say that teenagers always say "You don't understand me!"
And they say back, "I know what it's like to be hormonal! I know what it's like to be a teenager. It's wild and crazy! But we understand!"
First of all, less people are saying that now because of the pandemic and no parent knows the extra amount of pain this is bringing on teens. At least that's what I've seen.
Second, the people who have said that in my life are typically white men I've noticed.
I want to say something like this back;
"Okay, you understand the pain I have to wake up every morning to a house full of yelling. And you understand the anxiety I live through every day, wondering if I'm going to die from COVID, cancer, another disease or health problem, global warming, a school shooting, or a hate crime because of my identity as a Non Binary Jewish person born female. And I assume you also know what it's like to be sexually assaulted by a person in 3rd grade and being basically slut shamed the rest of you inter life in the 2nd grade. I'm glad you know all my experiences. So how about answering some questions for me. How did you deal with the fact you unconsciously hit yourself and couldn't control it? How was your reaction when you found out you might be out in a mental facility? How did it feel to know that you don't matter or don't exist, that the bullies in your life have valid arguments. That they know you are a forgetful unhelpful person who couldn't be used to help anyone in this world? Does that mean you also cry yourself to sleep, like me, knowing that the only reason you didn't want to give up on life is that your family would be deviated? I'm pretty sure you don't know quite enough to speak for me and give me advice about me hormones when what I need is advice on how to live a peaceful life."
Yeah, more of a rant. Don't like people being condescending like that.
Even if I were a white american cis boy with no mental disorders, I would me affected by the COVID and health related issues and climate change brought by our parents. This generation is being brought up on Powerpuff girls instead of Mickey Mouse thank you very much. Our modern day society is more than disappointing and stressful than your teenage problems. You got the Regan administration, we got the Trump administration.
And right now, the younger generation seems more willing to learn and develop than adults.
So adults reading somehow, I don't hate you. You just irritate me more by saying "I understand" than "How can I emotional support you?" or "What can I do for you?"
And honestly adults, if your child is mentally suffering, don't yell at them or sigh loudly at them. Just don't be aggressive.
I break down all the time when I argue with my mom or she yells at me. I cry a bunch at a certain point and she just sighs annoyed and loudly mumbles to herself.
Anyways, sleep
