My Take on the whole "Black Ariel" Situation
A/N: so yeah, it's one of those pages again. So, many of us know about the My Little Mermaid and it's choice of actors recently.
The one that caused the most controversy was that Ariel was going to be played by a black actor.
Yep. It's one of those things where people are pissing at each other that a character should be white
But after seeing stuff like this recently.
I thought it was time I'd give my own words on this situation.
PEOPLE ARE BITCHING OVER NOTHING!!!!
And why do you suppose I say that?
Maybe for the simple fact that it's a fucking fictional mermaid for starters.
Also, and you're really gonna get a really big kick out of this one, said mermaid wasn't even white in the original story to begin with. You know, the story that was the reason for the little mermaid to begin with. She was actually fucking GREEN. I know, shocker right?
Hell, even the fucking original voice actor of Ariel herself, Jodi Benson had to stop in on this shit at the Florida Supercon convention saying the following:
"The most important thing is to tell the story. And we have, as a family, we have raised our children, and for ourselves, that we don't see anything that's different on the outside. I think that the spirit of a character is what really matters. What you bring to the table in a character as far as their heart, and their spirit, is what really counts, Benson reportedly said. And the outside package -- cause let's face it, I'm really, really old -- and so when I'm singing 'Part of Your World,' if you were to judge me on the way that I look on the outside, it might change the way that you interpret the song. But if you close your eyes, you can still hear the spirit of Ariel. We need to be storytellers, And no matter what we look like on the outside, no matter our race, our nation, the color of our skin, our dialect, whether I'm tall or thin, whether I'm overweight or underweight, or my hair is whatever color, we really need to tell the story."
I think the fact that the original voice actor herself came out to defend the recent one is amazing give how many people are bitching over a mythical character of a species that isn't specifically white to begin with.
And, I might as well tackle one more recent remake coming.

To put it simply: despite him being one of my favorite characters in the movie, I'm not upset or outraged by it.
(Unlike many of the people who keep constantly posting mushu saying dishonor on twitter every moment they get).
Nor am I mad about the songs being removed.
For a reason why, is because of why disney did it, they did it to not only pay more respect to their Chinese audience. That, and these choices were done to bace it more on the original poem of Mulan itself. So I can't really argue with them for making that choice for that.
But, people are of course going to bitch and rage over this and think it's a stupid idea just because it's a remake being done by disney. Yeah, because Disney owns the entire Mulan story a whole and the remake should be like the cartoon from the 90s. -_-
While the movie does seem like it could be good, I'm not exactly too excited for it. And it's not for it being a live action remake, it's mainly because I've got my sights set on another film coming out in march of next year.
