rain

(This randomly came to my head. Read it or not. I don't care.)

Jessica was sitting on her balcony, facing the sky with closed eyes. The rain was falling down on her, but she didn't care. Just the feeling of fresh air and warm rain on her skin. That's all that mattered at the moment. Not the tears flowing down her face, not the small shivers she kept feeling because of the fresh air.

Everything was going down hill for her. Her grades kept dropping, her boyfriend broke up with her and to top things of her dad passed away. She felt like nothing had any use anymore. Things were just worthless.

She opened her eyes when she started hearing a familiar songs from the distance. "Sign Of The Times." A sad song in this kind of situation, hm? She giggled to herself. Her chest hurtimg from all the tears she had shed.

Jessica scanned her surroundings, looking for the source of the sudden music. Though, because of the rain amd fog she was only able to make out a few houses around her. They all seemed so pale, bland, empty. As if they were abandoned ages ago. As of all the souls of happy, laughing people had never existed here. Where did they all go?

A sudden urge grabbed her to go outside, wander the streets. Which is exactly what she did. She walked down the all so familiar street. Old cars being parked on the sides, puddles forming next to them.

She stopped in front of an extra large puddle and looked down at her reflection. She saw herself with her dad standing by her side, having on hand on her shoulder. She remembered how they would go out on rainy days, jumping into puddles just to get yelled at by Jessica's mother later on for returning all dirty.

Jessica's eyeliner was flowing down her face. Suddenly the high amount of money didn't seem so well spents for something that ended up not being water proof at all.

Being outside again after so long felt nearly surreal. She couldn't even remember the last time she genuely went outside, or even saw any other people or families. Just seing empty streets from her windows or balcony had somehow become the norm.

The rain sound was disturbed by the notification sound of Jessica's phone. She pulled it out of her pocket to read the message she had gotten. "Storm warning. Please remain inside," was all it said. Funny, she thought to herself, the only day I choose to go out they tell me to stay inside.

Swiping the message away she noticed her lockscreen. Still the image of her boyfriend and her. Stupid cunt. She noticed the backround of the photo was actually way prettier than their stupid faces posing in the front. It mesmerized her. How did she never notice? Maybe if things are going too well you stop noticing the small things.

Staring at her phone, Jessica didn't notice the headlights coming at her. The last thing she heard was a loud car horn.
