What rape really is
Since rape is so much more common than it should be, it is often misinterpreted for what it actually is and what it's about.
Rape isn't about sex. It's about power, most men who haven't raped don't think this and some who do straight out deny it.
Most of the time they do it because they themselves can't get the power they desire and so they decide to 'take it' by over powering a woman. And this gives then the power they want, it also makes the victim feel like their power has been taken away.
And that's the thing. People think that rape is just that.
Forcing someone to have sex when they don't want it. While I can see why some people can think this, that definition is the farthest from true. And since they think that it gets so much harder for a victim to even come out.
The victim doesn't just know that they were overpowered and forced to have sex. But the experience makes them think that they're weak, it was their fault, etc.
Rape victims think this enough on their own. So it doesn't help that everyone in the system believes it too.
The system blames the victims and ask crude questions and make irrelevant statements to guilt them.
Saying things like,
"what were you wearing?"
"How much did you drink?"
"I see you're a stripper?"
Or they'll say things like
"He's a good guy."
"He's just a kid. Allegations like this could ruin his life"
"You're a man you must've enjoyed it some."
It's things like this that destroys a victim.
