Donny and Kana
(I decided to try to use my depression as a tool for angst. It works. I think? Also play the song as you read to give you a more heartfilled experience)
She breathed out allowing all the unsaid words, leave her mind. Tilting forward to see how big the drop was from this height.
Looking down wouldn't have been so bad if it wasn't for the fact that it was from a roof top. More specifically her own roof top which was a good 34ft from the ground. This was the day she had been waiting for. Wind whipping her hair around but never to her face, more behind her then anything. Sun beeming ever so warmly as she felt the rays warm her soft skin like a gentle hug. It was peaceful for her, the thought itself was peaceful.
The idea of some sortive peaceful death seemed much more than just fulfilling to her. One deep breath and she let her dyed blonde hair down from the ponytail she always kept it in. Not many tears left her face but whatever was left couldn't be brought out. She already cried enough at this plan of action. Untying her shoes and placing them near the ledge with a small pink note underneath both so it didnt fly away. The note itself contained all she felt..
Her mind felt at ease with this, slowly pushing herself up to the ledge looking down, mentally preparing to jump. She put her body in a beginning stance but all came to an upbrought stop when the door to the roof behind her was slammed open, nearly making her jump off the roof sooner then she would've expected. Her arms jerked a bit towards her chest as an instinctual thing. She didn't need to turn around, her mind already knew who it was but a sudden shame made it unbearably difficult to look at him.
Out of breath, Donovan felt a bit of relief wash over him, seeing she has yet to jump off. He knew time was against him, so in an attempt to act fast, he began begging her with pleading eyes and a soft voice. He was the only one who she felt could stop her but at the same time, be the sole reason why.
"Kana.. Kana for the love of paradiso.. Please dont leave me again.."
That word..
Again
Again? What did he mean by again? This isnt her first time killing herself? Is this just a look?
That word floodied her mind with each passing second. Who was she to him? Vice versa? Who was she at all.. Questions plagued her mind as she felt herself be tossed into a tornando of words.
"A-again? What.. What do you mean again?"
She finally decided to turn to him, showing him her face tear stained. Starting up the process of crying, now they never stopped running down. Her hands were close to her chest as she started to breathe heavily.
"I-i've done this before?.."
She was more confused then ever, chocolate eyes never once met Donovan's mixed hazel ones. They stayed glued to either the floor or either side but never on him. Why?
"Kana.. Please."
His voice was broken as he tried to reach out to her but not so much as to startle her.
"Don't jump.."
"A-anwser me!"
Finally, her shame sub-sided to allow her eyes to meet his. Both tear-ridden and broken as ever. A small glint of guilt filled her eyes as she just saw just how broken he was for her. He cared.. He truly cared but the fact she couldn't remember him and why she feels confused about him is eating her up inside..
"Donovan... I-I cant live like this."
In a small quick movement she moved her hands from the safety of her chest to the roots of her dyed hair, pulling at it softly, crying more. Her mind lost in words.
"I don't.. I don't know who i am anymore.. Or, or even who i was.. Who.. Who I am to you.."
She started to sob out her words in broken English.
"It.. Hurts.. Im tired.. Im done.. Im done asking who i am.. I'm not me.. Im not sure.."
Donovan can feel the life from his eyes fade into a deep depression once more. Could his mind afford losing her again?..This would be the second and most likely the final time he will ever see her. Love her. Adore her. Treasure her. Was she that torn between her past and her present self? Was she aware that she herself changed completely?
"Please.. Dont leave me alone.. Ive missed you, so so much.."
He sobbed out, but continued.
"These past 6 years trying to find you.. Don't.. Please.. Don't make me throw them away. I-I've been everywhere trying to find you after I learned you were revived.. I failed to be there.. To protect you from harm.. From him.. From all of them.. I failed.."
He choked out to her. His body hunched over a bit, his hand had a deadly grip on his shirt as he cried and sobbed for her. Broken down, and hurt as if he felt that way for years.
"I never once left your grave after your death.. I spent hours mourning you. From the day of your death, to even your birthday. I've tried to move on but nothing felt right anymore.. No matter what I did.. Life was black and white to me... I couldn't live with the idea that I allowed someone to take you away from me... I felt lost again.. I felt hopeless..Please.. Please Don't let that person now be you.."
Kana looked at him wide-eyed, slowly piecing together what had happened before. She wanted to jump off but her body instead made her hop off the elevated ledge gently. Deciding to walk towards Donovan's saddened body. The overwhelming sense of need coming from him made her feel this was the right choice.
In a sudden motion her body maturally lounged forward. Hugged him. As tightly as she could with her measly arms, sobbing as well. She felt his sorrow, his guilt, his depression.
"Im.. I'm so sorry.. I-i.. I just thought that.. If I died.. Everything would be back to normal with everything.. I was being selfis-"
She shut herself up as a pair of warm arms wrapped around her. Giving off a different aura she knew she'd remember. Her eyes swelled up once more as a glint of peace washed over her mind.
Happiness
With the roots of her hair slowly changing to a brown like color in reaction to the sudden piece she had in her missing memory bank. She placed her arms on his chest, grabbing a fistfull of his shirt and crying into it as he fell silent, letting tears fall down his face.
Both of their bodies slid down, never letting the other go.
"D-Donny.. I'm so sorry."
Donovan pulled away slightly to look at her eyes. Noting the hair color change on the roots. Petting her hair gently, placing a soft gentle kiss on the top of her head. He let out a soft sigh, allowing all the tense of his body leave him, never letting go of Kana.
Meanwhile, she in return, had calmed down her crying. Readjusting her small body to fit comfortably in his. He placed his hand on her head, petting it and toying with her hair. His eyes glanced to her shoes that seemed to be forgotten by her with a little pink note underneath. Of course he made it a mental note to grab the note before she had any ideas of throwing it away.
"Kana.."
He leaned down to lay himself and her on the floor of the roof.
"Never.. Allow your mind to plague with these thoughts. I'm here.. I'll always be here when you need me.."
Whipping away her tears from her face, he smiled softly at her. He had her in his arms, in his reach again. After years of crying for her again. He has her back..
She smiled back, with a visable sadness in it. Althought she was at peace, she still felt.. Confused, about who she is.. Not about where they stand anymore. She knew now, they were supposed to be lovers but never had the chance to truly be it as time and fate was cruel to them both. Taking her away before she would've been able to feel happiness.. A true kind of happiness but who is she..
That one question looped her mind over and over again. Until she broke the peaceful silence
"Who was I?.. Before I died?.."
Her voice was gentle, and soft. She asked in a simple whispery like manner.
In the back of his mind, he knew she would ask before he was able to conjure up an answer. It was too early for her to regain her memories, but to late to keep them hidden from her as well.
Letting out another sigh, he looked to the sky trying to form words best suited for this question.
"You were many things.. But never had time to be a child. At a young age, we both we're experiments to this lab.. Which is how we met the first time."
He stopped there and turned to her, noting how she wanted to ask for more, seeing her mouth open then quickly close. She understood for now that this was a process of not wanting to push boundaries and to ease her back into her old self.
She kept being silent until he felt a wave of desperation wash over her in his arms. She wanted to know, but knew better than to pester the subject.
As her mind tried to piece together everything he had just said, it stuck out to her. She wasnt a human like she believed. Maybe a Zombie or even part of some hive mind organization.. Every question she mustered up in her mind allowed her to ignore the world but instead indulge herself with her own outlandish thoughts.
Donovan took notice that her mind had taken control over her attetion and decided to just stare at her, seeing as she was preoccupied with her own ideas and thoughts made him smile.
