A familiar taste

Ah, the end. Such a fascinating but scary place. Philza soared through the open air, his wings holding him high above the void as he watched the islands roll past his vision.

He was currently on his way back to the overworld after his most recent expedition, that being just exploring the end and seeing what he could find. Today was any other day for the old veteran, kill a few enderman every here and there, collect elytra and dragon heads, nothing out of the ordinary.

However, he decided to bring back some chorus fruit this time. He wasn't exactly sure why he did since he didn't like it because it tasted of nothing, but he did anyway. Maybe someone back home would like some? The man didn't know.

As he pondered his thoughts, the man found himself at the portal to take him home, much to the veterans relief. The winged hybrid stepped into the portal, a gust of wind hitting him in the face, nearly blowing his hat off before opening his eyes, finding himself in the familiar white landscape he called home, his connected house being seen in the distance.

The man slowly trudged through the bitter cold snow, his layered clothes keeping warm in the freezing weather, the wind practically bouncing off of the mans clothes.

He wondered, would Ranboo like the peculiar fruit? He was curious if the enderman hybrid would taste anything different to the man, though that was a small chance the boy would.

As he got closer to his humble abode, he managed to make out a familiar figure in the distance, said figure holding a grass block, their tail wagging happily behind them. The winged man smiled at the sight.

"Ranboo!" Phil called, waving his hand enthusiastically at the individual who had turned to him, a smile blossoming onto their face.

"Hi Phil! What's got you in such a happy mood?" Ranboo asked, walking closer to the older man.

"What? Am I suppose to have a reason to be so happy?" Phil chuckled, a smile creeping it's way onto his lips as he stared up at the tall boy, being wary of his eyes.

"No, I was just wondering. On another note, why are you here? Aren't you suppose to be working on another project?" Ranboo questioned, raising a brow slightly at the mans change in normal behaviour.

"I wanted to give you something, if you'd like it of course." The winged man replied nervously, rubbing the back of his neck.

"Of course! You know anything you give to me I'm going to love." Ranboo voiced, a cheery smile on his lips to reassure the older of his actions.

Phil nodded, carefully reaching into one of his pockets, pulling out a fairly big, about the size of his palm, sized what appears to be fruit? Ranboo looked at the food confused, squinting at the purple food, slightly curious about the new edible.

"What's this?" Ranbo asked, his red and greens eyes examining the new fruit carefully.

"This is a chorus fruit, it's one of the natural resources in the end and I decided to bring some back to give to someone. And since you're the first person I've seen from my small adventure, I thought you could have it." Phil replied, explaining the reasoning as to his whereabouts and the strange fruit.

Ranboo hummed, his eyes fixated on the purple blob in the older mans hands. There was something about it that seemed....familiar? That's the only word that Ranboo could use to describe the sense of familiarity he got from the chorus fruit. It  interested him to say the least, especially since where its originally from is the end. That stuck out to him.

He carefully picked up the chorus fruit from the older mans hands, slowly examining it as he turned it in his hands. Ranboo must admit, it looked a tad bit weird but it isn't the worst thing hes seen so it didn't surprise him that much, although he was curious about its origins. Phil said it was from the end, which, from what the boy had gathered, was just a bunch of islands hovering over the void. And apparently these grew in the end naturally? He grew curious.....

"Do you eat it?" Ranboo asked, shifting his curious gaze over to the man who had gifted him the strange material.

"You can eat it, but it usually teleports you to a random spot after consumption and it tastes like nothing, well, to me at least." Phil explained, unconsciously using hand gestures as Ranboo just nodded along.

The teen thought, didn't Phil say this was food? What if he ate it?

And so he did.

The tall boy took a small bite from the purple fruit and his eyes widened in astonishment. This was delicious! How has he never eaten this before? But the memories suddenly came flooding back, at least glimpses of them. He use to eat these all the time when he lived in the end, they were his favourite!

Ranboo immediately scarfed down the rest of the fruit, Phil staring at the teen in curiousity, wondering why he didn't teleport.

The tall boy soon finished the fruit, the teen was in absolute heaven. It was balanced with just the right sweet and bitterness that it just made the food an absolute pleasure to eat, he hoped Phil had more.

"Phil?" Ranboo asked, switching his weight from one foot to the other, his tail wagging frantically behind him.

"Yes?" Phil hummed, still deep in thought as he let his thoughts ponder.

"Do you have anymore chorus fruit?" Ranboo questioned, rubbing his arm slightly. The boy never liked asking for things, especially when it comes to Phil but he couldn't help himself.

"I do, do you want the rest?" The winged man asked, a brow raised at the boy.

"Please! If that isn't a problem, of course." Ranboo replied nervously, a small, sheepish grin spread across the boys black and white face.

Phil smiled, happily pulling out the few chorus fruits that remained in his inventory; handing them to Ranboo. The boys face lit up as he saw the small cluster of purple in the older mans hands, the teens tail swaying behind him quickly as the fruit was gently placed in his hands.

"Phil?"

"Yes?" The winged hybrid answered, subconsciously tilting his head as he stared at the enderman hybrid.

"Is it ok if you get some more chorus fruit when you go to the end again? They're really delicious!" Ranboo exclaimed, eating one of the fruits as he talked.

Phil chuckled. "Alright mate, I'm sure a few inventory slots can be spared."

"Thank you Phil!" Ranboo yelled, lunging at the winged man and crushing him in a tight hug.

".....Ranboo......crushing...lungs....."

"Sorry..." Ranboo mumbled, letting go of the older man, stepping back as he did so; a bright smile in the teens face.

And so, the next time Phil went to the end, he brought back a ton more chorus fruit as well as some end stone so the teen could farm the fruit as much as he wanted. The tall hybrid didn't have to worry about the conditions in which he grew the fruit as it survived well in any sort of weather, much to the boys pleasure.

The boy was happy he had his own infinite source of chorus fruit, he didn't have to rely on Phil to keep getting him the purple mass. He didn't want to continuously bug the old man for the addicting fruit, besides, he already had enough on his plate and Ranboo didn't want to add to that.

Though, whenever the black and white boy gazes at the peculiar food, he feels something.......familiar. It's probably nothing so he pays no mind to the continuous prodding of curiousity in his head.

If only he knew......
