A Bonding Mask

The oreo boy happily sauntered along the prime path, humming a small tune from under his mask as he enjoyed the sunny weather and cool breeze that swept throughout the smp; his eyes closed in content. A big smile gracing his lips from under the black and white mask.

The boy had been going around the smp and helping people complete small tasks, missions or minor chores. He had nothing planned that day and decided to assist people in their daily activities. The teen always loved helping people, it made him feel good to know that he was being helpful and it was always ten times better when the people he helped out took time out of their day to say thank you or something as simple as a smile sent his way. Take Niki for example.

He had been passing by Niki's bakery one day, probably a few days ago to be specific, taking a few resources to his house that he had gathered from the mines. They weren't heavy so it was easy to get them to his home.

The enderman hybrid had looked at the pastries that were in the showcase as he passed by and had noticed movement within the pink haired lady's bakery and, out of curiosity, had gone inside to investigate the disturbance; only to find Niki struggling to lift some boxes that Ranboo guessed were filled to the brim with ingredients.

He immediately volunteered to help the sweet women. Though surprised at his sudden appearance, she smiled at him and nodded, saying that they needed to go to the storage room in the back. The teen, in about a minute or so, came back out, wiping his hands together as he gave her a firm nod to tell her that it was done. Before he could leave, however, he had been offered a pastry, something new to the menu and had yet to have been tried to say thank you for helping her. Even without tasting it, it looked and smelled delicious. Just thinking of it now made his mouth drool.

The boy graciously took the food, thanking the lovely lady before leaving, a smile being sent his way as well as a small, "bye!" too, which the teen mirrored, though it wasn't seen because of his mask, but you could obviously tell the tall boy was smiling from how his eyes scrunched up in delight.

He left the small bakery, immediately putting his mask on his chin and he took a big, juicy bite out of the mouth-watering pastery. And to put it simply, it tasted good if not better than the teen could've imagined! The boy quickly ingested the rest of the gooey and slightly crispy pastery, a satisfied smile resting on his face as he pushed his mask back over his mouth.

Speaking of mouth, the enderman hybrid had never liked his mouth. It wasn't the scariest thing in the world but it also wasn't too pleasant to look at either. He has never let anyone see his mouth, hence why he wears a mask. Thankfully, no one had ever questioned why he wore it since Dream wore a mask and hadn't questioned him, which he was more than thankful for, though that didn't stop the dread of thinking about how people would react if they did see his mouth.

Reflecting on the possible scenario, he brought a hand up to his mask, running a hand over the black and white fabric; his eyes glazing over in thought.

Why did he cover his mouth? Why was he insecure about it? He couldn't answer those questions, and he definitely couldn't give honest answers if he had to give an answer. The teen has just never liked his mouth. He thought it looked disturbing, horrifying even. It just didn't look right to him. So he covered it. It's worked for him thus far into his life and no one has questioned him. They usually just brush it off and carry on with their day.

While the tall enderman hybrid was in deep thought, he hadn't noticed a familiar goat hybrid jog his way; a bright smile prominent on their features at the sight of their platonic husband.

"Hey big man!" Tubbo called, waving his hand at the tall teen, catching said teen off guard at the sudden voice.

"Hey Tubbo! What's up?" Ranboo asked, turning to face the short boy.

"Nothin' much, just wanted to ask something." Tubbo replied nonchalantly, his eyes lighting up slightly.

"Sure, go ahead." Ranboo acknowledged, tilting his head slightly at the goat hybrid; his ear twitching in curiousity.

"What's under your mask?" Tubbo began before quickly adding, "you don't have to tell me, I've just never seen what's under your mask and it's starting to drive me insane!"

Ranboo stuttered. This was not what he was expecting from his husband and best friend. He knew this was going to happen eventually and he was going to come up with an excuse at some point, but what's the point? Tubbo was going to find out what's under his mask sooner or later but he didn't expect to have him ask so soon. He might as well be honest, as much as he didn't want to.

"A, in my opinion, very messed up mouth..." Ranboo uttered, his eyes wandering to everything but the short being infront of him.

"Big man, you do realise I have been to hell and back and nothing can shock me anymore, right? Plus, you're my platonic husband; do you expect me to up and stop being your platonic husband and friend over how you look?" Tubbo asked, raising an eyebrow at the black and white boy.

"....yes"

Tubbo sighed, looking at his tall husband as he dragged a hand down his face.

"I'm not going to leave over something so minor- you know what? Come with me." Before Ranboo could question what Tubbo was doing, he was being dragged to who knows where. The enderman hybrid would've fought against Tubbo but, despite his short stature; hes strong and he'll most likely end up hurting both of them if he fought against his friend. So he let himself get dragged away.

As the enderman hybrid got dragged across the smp to who knows where, he let his mind wander. Where was Tubbo taking him? What was he going to show him? Questions swirled around the tall boys head as he continued to get dragged. While the tall teen was deep in thought, he failed to notice his small but strong companion drag him towards the prison, more specifically, Sam who currently wasn't on duty; much to the pleasure of the goat hybrid.

"Sam!" Tubbo called, waving his free hand in the air to catch the elders attention, which it did, as well as the oreo boy the small goat hybrid had been dragging along.

"Hi Tubbo! What's up?" Sam asked, putting the items that were currently in hand away, stepping away from a, what seemed half finished building.

"You know how you wear your gas mask, right? To cover your mouth?"

"Yes, what about it?"

"Well, Ranboo here doesn't want to take off his mask because he finds it; according to him, 'frightning'. You get what I mean?" Tubbo replied, using air quotes when he came to frightning.

"Ah~ so you want me to show Ranboo my mouth so that he might take off his mask, correct?" Tubbo nodded.

"Well why didn't you say so?" And before you knew it, Sam was taking off his gas mask; causing the two minors to perk up, Ranboo more than Tubbo.

As Sam removed his gas mask, Ranboo could see a row of sharp and jagged teeth, all of which not lined up like how a normal persons would be. Small chunks of Sam's cheeks were gone, allowing everyone a clear view of Sam's sharp teeth. Freckles that were shaped like pixels were dotted around Sam's cheeks, all of them varying in a different shade of green. To some people, they would say Sam looks dangerous, but to the two young boys, they stood in awe as they gazed at the creeper hybrid and his unique teeth, mouth and general face.

"YOU LOOK SO COOL, BIG MAN!" Tubbo yelled, walking closer to the creeper hybrid to get a closer look.

Sam chuckled. "I wouldn't say 'cool' per say. I think badass is a better word, don't you think?"

"Definitely!"

Ranboo stood still as he gazed at the older man, stars practically shining in his heterochromica eyes. The enderman hybrids mouth was similar, if not, the same as Sam's. The jagged teeth, the sharpness of them. It was almost as if God had decided to make their mouths the same to spite them. But it didn't seem like spite to Ranboo, it seemed like a sign, a sign to finally get over his fear of showing his mouth. Because what's the worse someone can do? Say they don't like it?

Ranboo took in a deep breath, shakily bringing his hands up to his ears to remove his mask. The boy couldn't help but hesitate. What if the boy scared his husband? But what's the point in being scared when the person you are literally showing their biggest insecurity to, you trust the most out of all the people they know and is their husband? Tubbo, that's who. And Sam, but that's a different story.

With one more breath, Ranboo grabbed his masks straps and slowly pulled them off his pointed ears. He stared at the two infront of him, waiting for them to notice as a sheepish smile danced its way onto the boys lips.

It took a couple minutes for Tubbo to stop fawning over Sam's mouth, but by the time he did, he stood staring at Ranboo's mouth in awe. His head followed his eyes as they flitted from Sam's and Ranboo's mouth, comparing the likeness of them.

Sam was staring in mild shock at the suddenness of Ranboo's action, but a warm smile slowly started to grace his lips the more he looked at Ranboo. The courage it must've taken to take off his mask made Sam admire the tall hybrid, but he also felt honoured to be trusted with one of, if not the biggest insecurity Ranboo had.

Ranboo however, took the silence from the two as disgust. His ears drooped slightly at the thought of causing his husband to be stunned into disgusted silence, and slowly began to start putting his mask back on.

"YOU LOOK INCREDIBLE, BOSS MAN!"  Tubbo yelled, bounding over to Ranboo to get a better look at his mouth. This startled the poor boy, causing him to fumble with his mask as he almost dropped it at the sudden yell.

It took a moment to register what Tubbo had said, but Ranboo immediatly froze upon realising what his husband had announced. Tears crept into the corners of his eyes, sizzling a bit but he didn't care as a warm and relieved smile grew on his lips. He chuckled breathlessly, overwhelmed with relief and happiness as the tall boy picked up Tubbo, causing the smaller hybrid to squeak and cling to his husband.

After a moment, Ranboo set Tubbo down, giggling giddily as a relieved expression painted his features. He struggled to find the words to express his gratitude and relief at Tubbo's acceptance of his appearance, before eventually saying,

"Thank you.." and Ranboo hugged Tubbo again rather tightly, but only for a brief moment before standing up straight again, continuing to smile brightly.

The two young hybrids perked up at the sound of light chuckling, causing the two to turn back to Sam who stood with his arms crossed, a lop-sided grin on his face as his gaze flitted between the two. He shook his head lightly with another chuckle before speaking softly.

"Feeling a bit giddy, you two?" Sam chuckled again as the two smiled brightly and nodded frantically, Ranboo's smile seeming to radiate happiness and pure joy.

"Thought so. Since you two are here, care to join me with my current project?" The creeper hybrid offered, gesturing vaguely to the half finished building nearby. Tubbo jumped at the opportunity, immediately grabbing his husband's arm and dragging him with him.

"Absolutely! Come on, Big Man!"

Ranboo could only smile, letting himself be dragged again as Sam began guiding them to the half built building.

The tall hybrid glanced down at his free arm and hand, seeing he's still clutching his mask. A thoughtful look crept onto his face before disappearing as soon as it came. Not a moment later, he dropped the mask, watching it tumble to the ground as he was dragged further away from it.

As much as Ranboo was unsure at being without his mask, he thought it was for the best. If Sam can be proud of his mouth and how it looks, why couldn't he? Maybe he should hang around Sam more often, could learn a thing or two...

I'M ALIVE. IM NOT DEAD! ITS A MIRACLE.

So, first and foremost, I apologise for the shoddy chapter and how long its been since Ive updated. This chapter was almost finished and I thought I owed it to you all to get it done. I hope you enjoyed it.

Just a heads up: I'm going to try and push out the last few remaining chapters I've had in my drafts the last few years. (God that sounds terrible-) I don't know how good they'll be when they're done or how soon I'll get them done, but I will eventually, that's a promise.

And yes I know Ranboo is non-binary now and uses they/them pronouns, but since I'll be referring to Ranboo in the past while on the DSMP in the remaining chapters of this, I'll be using he/him pronouns for the sake of not getting the past and present version of Ranboo mixed up, I hope that's OK and you understand :)

Thanks again for reading :)
