Chapter Forty
Enjoy the fluff guys

Cooking had never been Taehyung's strong suit. He first learned to cook from his mother, as any omega would. However, he had various experiences where he was scolded for his inability to cook well and his mother ultimately gave up trying to make him better. Regardless, whenever he was in the kitchen, trying to help out his mother, he was always faced with harsh words such as "How do you even call yourself an omega? An omega needs to be able to cook well! Who's going to cook for your future alpha and pups? You're useless, can't even do the basic things other omegas are good at! Do you plan to make your alpha starve?"
Taehyung used to scoff at her words silently. He would never cook for an alpha. If he can't cook, should his alpha not be able to cook? Should there not be balance in a relationship? Do alphas marry omegas to become their personal servants?
He would never cook for an alpha.
However, here he was, standing in front of a stove, a pan of beef stew steaming over the fire. Taehyung flipped the meat, adding spices on top and mixing the vegetables. He hummed a tune to himself, a song that had been stuck in his mind because Jeongguk kept listening to it when he worked out. He switched off the stove on which a soup was boiling. He took a spoonful of soup and blew at it before placing it on his palm and giving it a taste. He hummed in delight, muttering a "Yum" to himself.
He was cooking for an alpha.
No, not just any alpha. His alpha.
In fact, he was not only cooking for his alpha, but for himself as well. And maybe for his sister and her fiance if they decided to stop by. Or he and Jeongguk could heat up the leftovers and have them for dinner.
It was the fourth day since Jeongguk was discharged from the hospital. Two days after which, he and Jeongguk had visited the doctor once again for a checkup. Fortunately, the doctor said that Jeongguk was able to work out, while taking some meds. After this, Jeongguk had been spending hours in the gym, more hours with the battle instructor Hoseok had hooked him up with and only a few hours with Taehyung.
Taehyung wasn't bothered by this. Jeongguk came home late in the evening, with the most beautiful smile that made up for all the hours Taehyung spent alone cooking, cleaning and tidying the apartment. His day started with waking up at five in the morning with Jeongguk, who went for a morning run. Meanwhile, Taehyung prepared breakfast with high-protein for Jeongguk to take with him when he went to the gym. After Jeongguk departs, Taehyung washes up and starts doing their laundry, cleaning the house a little and then preparing lunch. Either Hoseok or Jeongguk came to pick up Jeongguk's lunch before he went for battle practice. In the evening Jeongguk went for boxing practice. Meanwhile, Taehyung spent time alone, either reading or watching something useful. One of these days, Sohra and her fiance came to visit. Jimin and Yoongi came to help on the day after Jeongguk was given the green light to work out and build his strength. They helped Taehyung cook and checked if the omega's cooking was edible enough. Taehyung had been quite confident about his cooking ever since and Jeongguk said multiple times that he loved Taehyung's food.
Once Jeongguk comes back to Yoongi's apartment, he kisses Taehyung and hugs him for a few long minutes. Afterwards, he takes a shower and eats the dinner Taehyung made, humming in delight every time. It would be time for Jeongguk's eight-hour sleep afterwards. Taehyung always made sure to give a good massage to his sore muscles before they both went to sleep.
Taehyung sighed now. There were only four days left till the duel. Sure, Jeongguk will be ready by then. At least, as ready as he could be in after six days' training. Taehyung was still anxious. Jimin and Jin spent time with him and assured him that things would work out well. However, he couldn't help the fear of losing Jeongguk.
The sound of the front door opening made Taehyung snap back into reality. He turned around and peeked around the corner to see a man in a puffer jacket walking inside. The man's face lit up when he saw Taehyung.
"Tae"
Taehyung smiled, his heart skipping a beat upon seeing his alpha. "My love"
Jeongguk walked over to the kitchenette and placed a shopping bag atop it, grinning at Taehyung lovingly.
"You're back early" Taehyung commented.
"Yup" Jeongguk nodded. "My stomach muscles started hurting so I decided to take a break"
"Oh are you alright?"
"Yeah, don't worry. I put some medicine over the aching muscles. Now the pain is gone"
"Are you going to your training too?"
"Yeah, of course" Jeongguk smiled. "I bought you strawberry cheesecake"
Taehyung gasped softly. "You did?"
"Yup"
Taehyung giggled and walked over to the kitchen island. He took out a plastic container with two pieces of strawberry cheesecake. "Oh my gosh"
Jeongguk laughed. "It's from the bakery we had our first date at"
"Really?" Taehyung grinned. "Wow, this looks delicious"
"I bet it is" Jeongguk sighed. "Tae, I haven't been saying this enough but I know you have been working so hard, looking after me and cooking for me. But I haven't even been able to spend time with you properly. I wanted to thank you for everything–"
"Don't be ridiculous Jeongguk. There is no need for thanks. We're in this together. Besides, don't worry about not being able to spend time with me. We have been spending quality time at night. We have been texting a lot and talking at night, even if it's not for long" Taehyung smiled. "Besides we have been spending so much time before this ruckus fell upon us. We have been the happiest we could have been. And we will continue to be happy and together once you win this duel"
Jeongguk smiled. "You're right. It's just until the duel is over"
"Yup" Taehyung smiled. "Lunch isn't ready yet- oh fuck! The beef stew!" Taehyung let out and ran to the stove and switched it off.
Jeongguk laughed. "Is it overcooked?"
"I don't know" Taehyung muttered. "It does look a little dark"
Jeongguk walked over to Taehyung, chuckling. He took a pair of chopsticks and took a piece of meat into his mouth. He hummed, frowning. "It's perfect. Not too raw, not too cooked"
"You sure?"
"Yup" Jeongguk nodded.
"You know you frown when you eat something yummy"
"I do?"
"Yeah. That I know that you have been telling me the truth when you said my food tasted good"
"Of course your food tasted great. It's fucking amazing. I love it"
"Come on, it's not that great"
"I enjoy earring it so yes, it is amazing"
Taehyung pouted. "Fine"
"Do you need help with anything in the kitchen?"
"Nope. You should get some rest. Are you going to have lunch here?"
"Yeah, that's why I'm here" Jeongguk nodded.
"Oh, then after lunch, you can take a nap, and recharge before you go to practice"
Jeongguk shook his head. "No. I want to spend time with you. I missed you, Tae. It felt like we didn't properly talk for like two days. At least, it wasn't enough"
"Oh"
"So let's have lunch together and then just... spend time together. I have over an hour till I need to leave home for practice"
"Okay" Taehyung smiled. "Sounds good"
Jeongguk took Taehyung's wrist and pulled him towards himself. Taehyung wrapped his arms around Jeongguk as he clashed with the alpha's body. Jeongguk smiled and pressed a soft but passionate kiss onto Taehyung's lips.
Taehyung smiled as they drew away.
"I was thinking" Jeongguk pressed a few kisses up Taehyung's jaw.
"Hmm?"
"I told you about the two guys I made friends with from the gym. Remember?"
"Yeah? I'm still surprised about how easily you make friends. It's only been three days"
Jeongguk chuckled. "Right? They invited me to go for a drink but I refused since I shouldn't be consuming any alcohol"
"My good alpha"
Jeongguk grinned cheekily. "I am your good alpha"
Taehyung giggled. "Is that what you were thinking about, my alpha?"
"No, no" Jeongguk shook his head. "One of them works at a salon. I searched it up and it's about a 20 minute drive from here"'
"Uh huh"
"He said that I should come over for a haircut or a massage or just anything and he would give a discount"
"Oh cool" Taehyung's eyes glided to Jeongguk's hair and he bushed his fingers against the alpha's locks. "Do you want to get a haircut"
"No, but I was thinking about treating you to something nice. Anything you want to get done? Maybe your nails? I have seen omegas have these long pretty nails. Or maybe you can get a pedicure or a haircut? A massage? A facial? They do all kinds of things"
Taehyung giggled. "I'm fine, my love. What about you, though? Maybe you should get a massage from a professional. Ooh, how about a facial? I've had facials before and they feel heavenly"
"I wanted to give you something, pup. You have been working hard"
"You, more than me"
Jeongguk sighed. "What's something you always wanted to do?"
Taehyung thought for a while. "I had this phase where I wanted to get a tattoo"
Jeongguk grinned. "Where?"
"On my wrist. A tiny one. I have commitment issues"
Jeongguk laughed. "Do you want to get a tattoo?"
"I'm not crazy for one right now. Didn't you tell me that you always wanted a tattoo?"
"Not right now. Maybe after the duel"
"What will you get?"
Jeongguk groaned. "I haven't thought about that yet!"
Taehyung giggled. "Then what?"
"You tell me!"
"I don't know!"
"My love, what do you want to do?"
"I don't know! Give me ideas, at least!"
"I just did! Maybe you can dye your hair some weird colour"
Taehyung eyes widened.
Jeongguk's eyes widened at that. "Really? You want to get your hair dyed?"
"M-Maybe"
"For real?"
"I don't know..." Taehyung muttered. "Always wanted to dye my hair. My parents would never let me so I never seriously considered it"
"Your parents aren't in the picture right now so you can do whatever the fuck you want! Let's get your hair dyed!"
Taehyung smiled. "Okay then"
"Awesome!" What colour?"
"What colour would suit me?"
"What colour did you want to dye it?"
Taehyung hummed. "I wanted to try electric blue or a bright purple"
Jeongguk laughed. "Okay then. Blue or purple? Or half-half?"
"No! Don't be ridiculous! Neither. That was my teen self"
"Then pink? Blond? Purple sounds good too, to be honest. Red?"
"Oooh red. I like that"
"I love red. My favourite"
"Then red it is!"
"Alright! When shall we go? Tomorrow? Wait, not tomorrow. The day after?"
"Sure" Taehyung grinned. "I can't believe I'm getting my hair dyed red"
"Same! It would look hot on you!"
"I hope so!" Taehyung giggled loudly.
Jeongguk laughed and picked Taehyung up, spinning him around and around. "Gosh, I love you"
"I love you too" Taehyung grinned as Jeongguk pressed him against the kitchen counter. He closed his eyes as Jeongguk kissed him.
Taehyung smiled as Jeongguk pulled away from his lips, heart giddy with happiness. "Shall we eat? Hungry?"
"Starving"

The bell above the salon door chimed as Taehyung and Jeongguk stepped inside, greeted by the soft hum of hairdryers and the scent of hair products. The sleek and modern interior contrasted with the warm atmosphere, making the salon feel both professional and welcoming.
A tall, friendly-looking man with a vibrant personality approached them from behind the reception desk. His eyes sparkled with enthusiasm as he greeted them, "Jeongguk! You made it!"
Jeongguk grinned at the tall man, an alpha, Taehyung identified. "Of course I did"
"And you must be Taehyung. I've heard all about you. Jeongguk's pretty omega" Jinho said, looking at Taehyung.
Taehyung chuckled. "Thank you. I have heard about you too"
"First time getting your hair dyed?"
"Yup" Taehyung said, looking at Jeongguk, who was already watching him.
Jinho clapped his hands together. "Fantastic! Well, we're here to make you both feel fabulous. Jeongguk, you're just observing today, right?"
Jeongguk nodded. "Yeah, just here to support Taehyung and see him get a fabulous makeover."
Jinho grinned. "Great! Taehyung, let's start by discussing what you're looking for. Any specific style or colour in mind?"
Taehyung glanced at Jeongguk, who winked playfully, encouraging him to share his preferences. "Well," Taehyung began, "I've always wanted to try something bold. I was thinking of dyeing my hair red."
Jinho's eyes lit up with excitement. "Red, huh? That's bold indeed! I love it. Let's get you set up right away. Follow me to the styling area."
As they walked towards the styling chairs, Taehyung couldn't help but feel a mix of nervousness and excitement. The salon was busy with stylists attending to clients, creating an energetic ambiance. Jinho gestured towards an empty chair, and Taehyung hesitated before sitting down.
Jeongguk settled into a nearby chair, watching with admiration. Jinho draped a black cape around Taehyung's shoulders, securing it with a gentle touch. "Now, let's talk more about the shade of red you have in mind. We have different options – from fiery red to deep burgundy. What are you feeling today?"
Taehyung glanced at Jeongguk once again, who gave him an encouraging nod. "I think I want something vibrant, like a bold, fiery red. Something that stands out."
Jinho nodded in agreement. "Bold it is! Now, just sit back, relax, and let the magic happen. You're in good hands."
The stylist assigned to Taehyung, a woman, joined them. She greeted Taehyung warmly, her enthusiasm matching Jinho's. "Hi! Ready for a change? I'm excited to work on your hair."
Taehyung smiled, feeling more at ease with the stylist's friendly demeanor. "Yes, definitely ready for something new."
As the stylist prepared the hair dye and began the process, Taehyung exchanged playful banter with Jeongguk and Jinho, creating a lively atmosphere. The salon buzzed with activity, and Taehyung couldn't help but enjoy the experience.
Throughout the transformation, the stylist skilfully worked on Taehyung's hair, making sure the vibrant red shade blended seamlessly. The salon was filled with laughter and chatter, creating a sense of camaraderie. Taehyung caught glimpses of his reflection in the mirror, witnessing the gradual change from his natural colour to the bold red he had always dreamed of. He looked at Jeongguk from time to time, who smiled at him with reassurance.
When the stylist finished, she spun the chair around to face the mirror. Taehyung's eyes widened with amazement at the striking transformation. His hair now radiated a fiery red, and he couldn't help but grin.
Jeongguk stood up, his eyes widening as he approached Taehyung. "Wow, Tae. You look gorgeous. That red suits you so well."
Taehyung blushed at the compliment, genuinely pleased with the result. Jinho clapped his hands together, adding, "You're absolutely rocking that red, Taehyung! It's a game-changer."
Taehyung stood up from the seat as the stylist took off the cape. "I know right?" Taehyung whispered. He couldn't believe that he actually dyed his hair such a vibrant colour.
"Do you like it?" Jinho's voice came.
"Yes!" Taehyung exclaimed. "Just as I imagined it"
"It matches you so well" Jinho said with a grin. "Love it on you"
"I do too" Jeongguk muttered, still checking Taehyung out.
Taehyung blushed. "Thank you so much" he said to Jinho and the stylist.
"Happy to serve" Jinho chuckled.
Taehyung grinned. He and Jeongguk soon left the salon, grins plastered across their faces.
With his new fiery red hair catching the sunlight, Taehyung couldn't help but feel a surge of confidence as they stepped out of the salon. Jeongguk looked at him with a mixture of awe and affection, his eyes sparkling.
"Taehyung," Jeongguk said, his voice low and filled with admiration, "you look absolutely stunning. I mean, you always do, but this... this is something else."
Taehyung blushed at the compliment, his heart fluttering. "Thank you, Jeongguk. I never thought I'd go for something so bold, but I'm glad I did. It feels liberating."
Jeongguk grinned, slipping his arm around Taehyung's waist. "Liberating and incredibly sexy. You're turning heads, Tae. Not that you weren't before, but now it's like you've set the world on fire."
Taehyung playfully nudged Jeongguk's shoulder. "Flatterer. But if I turn heads, it's only because I'm walking beside the most handsome alpha in the city."
Jeongguk chuckled, pulling Taehyung closer. "You're biased, but I'll take it. Besides, I can't compete with this level of gorgeousness," he added, running his fingers through Taehyung's newly dyed locks.
"Stop it," Taehyung teased, but the warmth in his eyes betrayed his delight. "What about you, Jeongguk? Do you ever think of changing your look?"
Jeongguk raised an eyebrow. "Are you suggesting I get a makeover too? What would I even change?"
Taehyung pretended to ponder, tapping his chin. "Hmm, maybe a daring haircut, a different style? Or perhaps you could try a bold hair colour like mine."
Jeongguk laughed, leaning in to whisper, "I think I'll leave the bold choices to you, my fiery love. I'm more of a classic kind of guy."
Taehyung smirked. "Classic, huh? Well, you're a classic I wouldn't trade for anything. But seriously, Jeongguk, thank you for today. It means a lot that you're here with me, supporting my crazy whims."
Jeongguk kissed the top of Taehyung's head. "Tae, there's nothing crazy about wanting to try new things, especially when it makes you happy. And seeing you happy, confident, and beautiful – it's all I could ever ask for."
Taehyung sighed contentedly. "I'm lucky to have you, Jeongguk. You make every moment special, even a trip to the salon."
Jeongguk smiled, his gaze softening. "The pleasure is mine, Taehyung. I love every shade of you, whether it's your natural colour or this stunning red. Besides, it's a reminder that life is too short not to embrace the unexpected."
"That's true" Taehyung smiled.
"You know you have changed" Jeongguk said.
"What? How?"
"You have changed since I first met you. You used to be so scared of being... you. You were hypnotized by all the bullshit your parents had fed you throughout your life. It was like you didn't have a free will. You always did and thought what your parents would want you to do. When you did do something you actually wanted, like a party, you always considered your parents' reactions. You were hesitant to eat as you liked and live as you liked but not anymore. You're much more open about yourself and about what you want. I love that for you"
"Yeah. I really am. I feel more liberated like this. Like I am no longer in a prison created by my parents. I didn't do a lot of things because my parents would hate me if they found out. But I think the first such thing I did, regardless of what my parents would think, was to date you. I wanted to do it so badly. There was something about you that I couldn't resist. Before I met you, when I thought about dating someone in secret... someone who my parents didn't want me to... felt like a crime. The moment I decided to give you a chance and thus give myself a chance at happiness and liberty... I started finding true liberation"
Jeongguk squeezed Taehyung's hand. "Tae"
"So if I have changed, I need to give you all the credits. You broke me out of my shell. You encouraged me to do all the things I was scared of doing. Things I was scared to do but desperately wanted to do them. You did it all, Jeongguk"
Jeongguk pressed a kiss onto Taehyung's forehead. "I'm happy that you're more liberated now, Taehyung. I'm glad. Whatever the future holds, you must continue to be liberated, okay? You have to live your life the way you want. Don't go back to Seojoon or your parents. Run away if you need to. Promise me that you won't become trapped with Seojoon"
"I won't because you're going to win this duel"
"But promise me. Just in case this doesn't work out"
Taehyung stared at Jeongguk's opal orbs. A silence stretched between them. "Fine"
Jeongguk watched him carefully.
"I won't go back to Seojoon or my parents. I won't trap myself with them. I will do what I believe is right"
"Good" Jeongguk sighed. "I'm relieved"
"But we will live together and have lots of kids. We will move into a nice city and live there with your pups. You are going to see me give birth to this pup" Taehyung caressed his hand over his stomach.
Jeongguk smiled. "Oh I can't wait to see what this one looks like"
"Me too" Taehyung grinned.
"I hope it looks like you"
"Why so?"
"He or she would be a keeper then"
Jeongguk grinned. "However you want it, my love"
"I love you"
