#3 how to be successful on wattpad: THE SET UP
I'm back y'all!!
wish I had a better name for this chapter of HTBSOW but I really don't. basically what I mean about "the set-up" is all about how you set-up your book on wattpad, the summary/description, the tags, cover EVERYTHING, that if done well, will help your book stand out and eventually help it gain attention.
Just a like disclaimer/warning/idek: these are like tips/advice that has worked for me and in my opinion, I believe would work. If these don't work for you, please don't come at me lmao, these tips are only there for help and support.
❃❃❃
We start with the :
THE BOOK COVER
- Now, an attractive cover is a MUST. Believe me when I say people do judge books by their covers, or most do. It's the first thing people notice, and it's the thing people notice enough to pause and click on it to read that little summary under it or even just the book.
- You can create your own cover. I personally use Pixlr editor on my laptop, it's a free website thing online that's like an easier version of photoshop, and I use Picsart for filters plus Phonto for the fonts, both on my phone. There are many tutorials on how to use it on Youtube, which I watched in the beginning and started practicing and making my own covers. With practice you do get better at cover-making, and hey it doesn't have to be the most amazing cover, even simple ones with just a pretty title are good enough.
If you don't want to make covers, there are SO MANY books where people make covers for you. So that helps too, and usually those people make really good covers!
- The way the cover is SET UP also matters, to me. If you're writing a Harry Styles fanfiction, then I would advice putting his face on the cover, especially if you're starting out because that's how all the Harry readers will get attracted to your book. If you're already a big author, it doesn't really matter because you've obviously already got a big following who'll read whatever.
- Make sure the cover corresponds with the book ALWAYS. You can't have a cute, bubbly ass book with a dark grungy book cover. NO. The cover has to represent your book visually, and attract people. Make sure the picture is clear, and the TITLE and your NAME is clear as well. The cover has to always be striking, one way or another.
THE NAME OF THE BOOK
- I'm just going to quickly mention here that short book names, in my opinion, are always the best. I prefer two or three syllables, because then they're short to say and remember, and will stick better in reader's minds when they want to recommend the book to someone else. Titles that are like short and catchy and interesting are always attractive!
i hate titles like "the one who got away with my heart"
pls no.
6 Man, Kill & Run, Heavy Crown, those are all short and CATChy if you say otherwise I don't want to know (:
THE SUMMARY
- So when i refer to the summary of the book i mean this part.
- For the SUMMARY I always like to put a quote, either from the book or relating to the book because how i imagine the reader to first notice my book is first they see the bomb-ass, eye-catching cover, then they click on the book and read the summary to see if the book is of their interest. There I like the quote idea or just like a sentence that summarizes the book as a whole, because if the summary is too long and detailed the reader can get bored and shiz, at least I know that happens to me.
- I like the short summary thing, because then if they're interested they can click on the book and it'll take them to the first part of the book which is like the ACTUAL summary.
What I mean by this is, this part of MY books in particular.
- I always do the title and give a proper summary of the book with the cast list laid out so that when people like finally ENTER the book they can get more information on it and see the cast list and see if this book is for them. You know what I mean? I usually call this part like a description or the actual summary of the story because they give more information and like arouses the readers' interest even more.
- So the summary and this description thing always works hand in hand, first the reader notices the cover, then reads the summary where they think ooo this might be interesting I mean look at the quote, and then they click the book and read the description, get more info on what type of book it is and etc. and also get a glimpse of the cast list.
- I haven't seen A LOT of people do this, but there are some and I just think it's helpful because then readers can really see if they wanna read the book or nah instead of just pushing them into the first chapter with no really info on what the book is about. The description thing is like a blurb, which you read on the back of a paperback novel, in order to see if it's worth your time ya know?
❃❃❃
ALRIGHT! Those are the tips I have for setting up the book for the readers! These are what I believe helped me get my books popular, and obviously they worked hand in hand with the others stuff like good writing, good plot, and etc.
I'll talk about promo next, which there's not much to talk about but I know a lot of people ask about promo tips so it's coming soon!
