Chapter 20

Nikita laid in bed as she had been for awhile. She stayed there locked in her own thoughts mostly because there was literally nothing else to do.

There was a slight knock on the door. Before it opened she turned her head to face the wall straight ahead. She didn't care who came through the door (even though she could already sense that it was Bane entering the room.) After he saw that she was purposely avoiding his presence He walked in the Direction she was looking at to get her attention. She simply moved her gaze away to the lamp next to her. He let out a frustrated breath as he set the food he had been holding down next to her on the night stand. She didn't bother to reach and grab the plate because she wasn't hungry, plus she knew her arms would jerk back on the restraints anyway.

He eyed her for a moment, not understanding her purpose or angle with this new found silent treatment. He came through the doors expecting her normal pain in the ass comments as usual but there was none. Maybe Ash actually upset her? He found that hard to believe because he knew hunters were uneasily fazed, especially by their enemies. Not that he cared. He found her lack of vocalism refreshing.

He snapped his fingers and She gasped as the restraints on her arms magically grew long enough to move around in.

"I am going to be leaving for awhile." He started as he thought to himself for a moment. "Try not to do anything stupid while I am gone." He pressed. When She didn't answer, or even look his way He wondered if she was even listening. He began to grow annoyed with the huntress. "If you try to hurt Ash again You will be severely injured by the protection spell I cast, and this time I won't be there to stop you from hurting yourself.." he said referring to the recent incident. "do you understand?" He asked.

She looked up at him then, meeting his gaze for the first time since he entered the room. His usual Messy blonde hair Was now combed back in a neat manner. It was obvious that he was headed out. She wondered why he even bothered speaking with her before he left.

She let out a tired breath. "Don't hurt Mr fangs," she retorted. "Got it."

There it was. He brushed away her sarcasm as he hoped she would take his words seriously. He turned to leave but once again stopped at the door. "Once Ash finds out, tell him I'm sorry." He said quietly as if ashamed by his own actions. She grew confused, not understanding what he meant, or where he intended to go that would make Ash so upset. Before she could question it any further he turned back, and left the room.

Victoria laid in bed with the necklace she had found earlier held tight against her chest. She felt like today had been the longest day she had ever endured. The hunters were preparing for a full out war. From making weapons, loading trucks, to stocking food. She helped here and there but couldnt stand the looks of pity everyone around her seemed to give. She got through the day with her focus on what she would do later on, which was now. She sat up as she thought things through.

Would the necklace even take her to her sister? Sure it was a wild guess but it was the best option she had at the time, and since the rest of the hunters had given up she didn't see any other choice, but Could she really just get up and leave right now? Alone? She knew that if she were going to search for her sister Rabolso would want to come. Victoria sighed as she realized wherever this necklace would take her it would be dangerous, and she would never put her in that position. If she were going to go through with this she would be on her own. She grabbed a pen and scribbled a note down for rabolso to Find in the morning.

"I'm sorry, but I couldn't put you in the kind of danger that I might be headed into. You are a true Friend, and I will always be grateful for you. Take care of yourself. Much love, Vicki"

She felt the full wait of her decision as She grabbed her duffel bag that she had previously packed, and threw it over her shoulder. She then held her mother's necklace out in front of her as she repeated the spell enchanted into the back of it.

"Blood to blood, bone to bone, follow your heart to take you home."

The enchanted object lit up bright blue once more as it floated out of her finger tips. She smiled as it led her out of the tent and into the night.

Ash stood in his lab as he looked over Nikita's already processed blood bags. He had enough to last him a week, or so. He glanced upstairs to where he knew Nikita to be, then back at the blood bags. He didn't want to admit it to himself, but Bane's words last night made a impact on him.. he just wasn't sure if it were for the better or worse.

He reluctantly made his way up to Nikita's room. He knocked, then entered. She was seated on the bed with her knees pulled to her chest. She brushed messy blonde hair away from her face to see Ash better. After there last conversation she didn't feel like speaking to him. "If you want my blood just take it." She said as she extented her arm without hesitation. "Otherwise just go away." She stated, even though she knew she had no power to do so.

He stood in the doorway as he opened his mouth to speak, but shut it. She looked horrible. Not in a ugly way, but in a miserable one. Much to her displasure he pulled a chair up next to her bed then seated himself in it. Had he not heard her? She thought as she turned her head away from him to look back down at her knees.

"I'm sorry." He said with the words sounding foreign to himself.

She did a double take. Was the vampire really apologizing? Or was she hearing things?

She watched him as the next few moments went by. He was trying to find the best way to explain himself. "When I found you I just thought of how much simpler my life would be." He stated truthfully, remembering the moment she fell into his arms from the rooftops vividly

"No more trips to the blood banks, no more dealings with other vampires over territory" He paused to smile slightly to himself "And no more risks with running into you guys." He pointed at her, meaning hunters. "I didn't however take your actual presence here into consideration."

Guilty? Was he feeling guilty? She didn't know what to think, or say. "I don't understand." She spoke. What was he getting at? Why was he saying all of this?

"Hold on," he cut in. after a moment she nodded for him to continue.

"I didn't think of you as human." He started, remembering the words Bane had told him earlier.

"I'm not human," She defended, as if it were a bad thing.

He ignored the fact that she cut in again as she continued. "What I meant was I'm use to dealing with creatures.." he continued. He couldn't remember that last time he even had a conversation with a human, most likely because he hadn't since he himself were one. "The only hunters I ever came across have been more ruthless then the rest of us monsters." He said as he remembered the frantic little Bane he found roaming the woods after hunters killed his parents.

Nikita sat there completely taken back by his words. After the way he treated her yesterday the last thing she expected was a full blown apology. She watched as he spoke, eyes cast down at his hands as he did.
"Your not happy here, obviously. I somehow thought that if you stayed awhile you might grow to like it here," he said as he glanced around. " but I can't hold you here forever."
He looked her over one last time as if locking in a decision that he had been wrestling with for some time. He then reached over and undid all of her restraints. She sat there speachless as he did. "You may go."

She sat there shocked, her own ideologies being questioned. She didn't know vampires were even capable of such feelings, or regrets. In some way she began to feel guilty herself. why? She didn't know. Go? She wondered as she glanced to the door. Like Out of the room? Outside?

"You may leave and go back to your sister." He clarified.

She looked up oddly at the vampire standing above her. She couldn't believe that he would just let her leave.. She made her way off of the bed, eyeing him the whole time as she did. This had to be some kind of trick? She now stood in front of him confused as ever. He simply stood there and watched her actions, and reaction to his words.

she didnt want to let this chance escape her so she turned to leave. As she did he grabbed her hand to stop her. She lowered her head in disappointed as she turned back around. She knew it were to good to be true. Sick joke, she thought.

He took his free hand and tilted her lowered head up to look at him. She raised her guard at his actions. "This was all my doing," he spoke. his grip on her hand was gentle, but he didn't let it go. "When you get back you will be facing a war that i Started." He said as his eyes fell away from hers back down to her hand in his.. He didn't want to think about the mess he has caused. She was dead silent as he spoke. She wasn't exactly sure how she felt. She knew now by his sincerity that it were no joke or trick. He meant what he said. "You didn't deserve this, I'm sorry." He barely managed to say. He let go of her hand and took a step back, giving her space.

She turned away from him and walked to the door. "Thank you." She said though she were not sure why. Like he said, this was all his doing. However it wasn't normal for a vampire to feel guilty, let alone take responsibility and own up to it. She thought that deserved recognition even though she never imagined she would say those words to a vampire.

She felt odd as she walked down the stairs and to the door of the mansion. She opened it and smiled as she saw the sun over the hills just starting to rise. She hadn't been outside in over a week, and the breath of fresh air was just that, refreshing.

Before she could take a step out of the door she heard a loud "Wait!" Coming from upstairs, and like a flash Ash was in front of her with a hand placed on her shoulder, stopping her from leaving. "The spell," He said in a rush, explaining her actions.

She backed away from the door as she remembered the large spell Bane put in place to keep her inside the house. If she were to step a foot out of the house it with literally toss her back inside, quite villently as she remembered.

"Bane." Ash called out. After a few moments his expression grew worried "Bane!" He shouted this time very loudly. He always came when Ash called.

Nikita remembered Bane's words from earlier as she herself grew worried, not for him, but for herself. She needed Bane to undo the Spells he placed on her in order for her to leave. "Ash," She said with hesitation as he frantically began to look around. Ash stopped as he waited for her to speak. "He said something odd to me a few hours ago." She began.

"What do you mean?" He cut in, worried.

"He, well he told me to tell you that he was sorry." She answered.

"For what? He asked.

She shook her head. She hadn't understood what he meant either. "All he said was 'when Ash finds out, tell him I'm sorry." She finished.

Ash's expression went from worried to mad. "What is it?" She asked. "Where did he go?"

Ash was silent for a few moments as he collected himself. It was obvious that he was furious. "He went to join the fight against the hunters."
