Be More Careful

Margaret woke up hours later and was able to speak to Hannah. Hannah felt so much better now that she spoke to her mother.

Margaret's voice did sound weak but other than that, she was doing well. She also talked to Isaiah. Isaiah had been giving Khaila a bit of a hard time before the phone call. But Margaret was able to calm him down. She told him she had tripped and fell at work and needed the doctors to fix her. Isaiah told her he couldn't wait for her to come and get him so they could go home. Margaret reassured him that they will be going home soon.

After the phone call to Isaiah, Margaret fell asleep again.

Charles never left her side, only to use the restroom and get a cup of coffee.

He looked at Margaret who was sleeping peacefully. He smiled through his tears of relief. He didn't know what he would have done had things been worse; had he lost her.

He closed his eyes sobbed silently as to not wake Margaret. He kicked himself once again for ever cheating on her. He didn't know what had possessed him to do so.

But he was so glad that they had worked on their marriage and that Margaret forgave him. He truly loved her with all of his being.

He wiped his tears away after a good cry and counted his blessings. His wife and children were his whole world. He felt like the luckiest man in the world as long as he had them in his life.

The next day, Margaret was well enough to be released from the hospital. Margaret did have a huge bruise on the side of her face and her eye was slightly swollen. Her arm was re-bandaged and she had to have her arm in a sling for the next six weeks.

Charles drove her home and helped her into the house. Then he made sure she was comfortable in bed.

It was almost time for Isaiah to be picked up so, he kissed her goodbye before going to pick up their son.

Margaret laid in bed and just thought about the events that led her to her current position.

She closed her eyes and cried. She couldn't believe that this happened to her. In all her years of being a case worker, nothing like this had ever happened.

She was grateful to be alive and she really thought about taking a step back from her job. As it is, she was to rest for a few weeks before being cleared to come back to work. So she had time to think about what she wanted to do next.

Before she was released from the hospital, she was able to visit David and found out that he wouldn't have to suffer anymore at the hands of his father.

His mother had reached out to her parents who lived in Texas. Because of her husband, she was made to stop talking to her parents.

When her parents had heard from her after so many years of not hearing from her, they burst into tears of joy. They had been hoping that she would reach out to them.

They missed her dearly and now once David was able to, he and his mother would be moving to Texas with her parents.

Margaret was so happy that David would hopefully have a better life in Texas and that he won't have to be abused ever again.

Once Margaret said goodbye to David and his mother, she was able to go home.

Charles drives her home. During the ride, Margaret closes her eyes because she still was under the affects of her medication.

"I'm going to drive you home, get you settled then I'll pick up your prescription." Charles said. "Then I'll come home and make you some lunch. After I'll pick up Isaiah from Khaila's. For now, you just get as much rest as you can."
"Thank you, Charlie." Margaret said still with her eyes closed.

"You're welcome." Charles said as he made a stop at the red light.

He then turned to Margaret and said. "I love you."

Margaret smiled then opened her eyes and looked at him. "I love you too."

Charles leaned over to give her a kiss so she would have to move too much. Margaret leaned over a little and they kissed each other's lips.

When Margaret moved to sit up right, she winced in pain and told a worried Charles that she was okay. He nodded and continued driving when the light turned green.

Once he pulled up to their home, Charles helped Margaret out of the car and she slowly made their way to the front door.

She felt weak because of the blood loss and blood transfusion, and once she was laying in bed, she sighed in relief. The doctor said it would take her a while to recover.

Margaret held her arm gently that was in the sling as she laid down on the bed. Charles made sure she was comfortable and the pillows were propped up to her liking.

He then kissed her lips and told her he would return soon.

When Charles left, Margaret sighed then she began to cry. She was finally letting the weight of what happened consume her.

She was glad she was alone. She sobbed her heart out. She wished things turned out differently. She shouldn't have confronted David's father like she did. But at the time, she was so angry she couldn't hold back. She was truly glad once again that she was alive.

After a while, Margaret began to calm down. Her eyes grew tired, so she closed them and the next moment, she was fast asleep.

Charles walked through the door holding Isaiah's hand. He took Isaiah's jacket and backpack then he placed them on hooks by the door where they hung up all their jackets.

Before letting go of Isaiah's hand, he kneeled down to Isaiah's level and said. "Remember to be gentle when you hug mommy, okay?"
"Okay, daddy." Isaiah replied. "Can I go see mommy now?"
"Let's go buddy." Charles smiled and nodded.

He guided Isaiah to the bedroom and he peeked in. He was about to tell Isaiah to let Margaret sleep but Isaiah whispered. "Mommy?"

Margaret had woken up a few seconds before Isaiah and Charles returned home.

Margaret opened her eyes and she smiled a little. "Hi, baby boy. Come here, Isaiah."  She reached out with her good arm for him.

Isaiah saw Margaret's arm sling and bandages. He grew concerned and a little scared. He approached her beside shyly.

"It's okay, Isaiah." Margaret said. "Come lay down on this side." She pointed to her left side. She moved a little to the side. Enough for Isaiah to fit on her left side.

Isaiah slowly laid by Margaret's left side and with her good arm, she held him close. She kissed his forehead and she felt Isaiah relax.
Charles follows Isaiah and sits at the foot of the bed and watched his son and wife's interaction.

"What happened to your arm, mommy?" Isaiah asked with much concern.
"Well...I didn't see where I was going on my way to my office. I didn't see the sign that said that the floor was wet because they had just mopped the floor. I slipped and fell. I fell on my shoulder. But, I'm okay. The doctor fixed my arm and in a few weeks, the doctor will remove my bandages and I'll be all better." She said.

Isaiah looked up at his mother and said. "Mommy, you need to be more careful and watch where you're going."

Margaret smiled down at him and replied. "I promise, Isaiah, next time I will be more careful."

Isaiah smiled at her and laid his head on her good shoulder. They stayed that way until dinner. Margaret needed her baby close to her and she vowed to never put herself in danger again.
