Chapter 3 (edited)
Victor awoke with a start once again it was around three or four in the morning and Yuki had cried himself awake. Victor sat up and turned where Yuki bawled, red-faced and teary Victor took Yuki into his arms and held him close. Yuki was sweating a lot. "Oh gosh." He quickly stood with Yuki still in his arms and rushed to the bathroom where he stripped off Yuki's clothing and rocked him back and forth trying to cool him down a little.
But by the time he had stopped sweating he began to tremble violently and the sheen of sweat on his flushed forehead was wiped away. "Alright let's get you a nice warm bath and get you dressed in something warm," Victor stated with a frown and went over to the tub to turn on the water he grabbed the bathing seat for Yuki and placed it inside the tub waiting for the lukewarm water to fill the tub.
Victor held Yuki close to his chest and rubbed his back in a circular motion trying to comfort his son as much as he could. "I'm so sorry Yuki." Victor apologized with a guilt-laced voice tears threatened to spill, Yuki whimpered and pressed himself closer to his father. The cold absolutely bothered him it left him trembling and uncomfortable. "Alright, Yuki I'm going to have to let you go for a bit." Victor wiped at his eyes drying them from any tears and carefully placed Yuki in the seat after removing his diaper.
A cup rested at the corner of the tub Victor grabbed it and took cupfuls of the bath water occasionally pouring water on Yuki so he wouldn't get even colder. Grabbing a soft washcloth and the baby shampoo Victor quickly but gently began to wash Yuki's soft delicate hair being cautious to not get any water or soap in his eyes. Yuki sneezed an adorable sneeze getting Victor greatly off guard but he quickly recollected himself and finished up with his hair moving on to his tiny pale body.
Yuki's skin was smooth and warm as Victor rinsed the soap off of him his hand stroking his belly. "Paaa~" Yuki gurgled and outstretched a tiny hand out to his father clenching and unclenching it as if demanding to be carried. Victor chuckled and shook his head throwing another cupful of water over him. "I can't carry you right now Yuki, you'll get me wet." He explained and finished with bathing his son. He was quick to grab the cute duckling towel hanging on the door and drained all the water from the tub, Yuki was cold again and his lips trembled from all the discomfort and harsh cold.
Victor pulled Yuki out of the tub and wrapped him in the adorable towel. "You're so adorable." Victor cooed and rubbed his nose with Yuki's own small nose. Victor's phone rang loudly from his room startling both of them Victor held Yuki close to keep him warm and hurried to his room switching off the light from the bathroom, he grabbed his phone from his nightstand and answered it. "Hello?" He rocked Yuki back and forth. "Vitya!" He cringed at the high pitched voice. "What is it Mila?" He sighed tiredly. The girl giggled. "Guess who decided to visit!" She sounded sickeningly cheery and happy.
Victor groaned and Yuki whined along with his father, Mila heard the infant and squealed. "Hurry and open the door!" She demanded pleadingly. "I'm on it." He sighed in response and walked to open the door despite Yuki still needing to be changed, once open Victor was surprised to see multiple people come in. Mila, Sara, and Yakov entered; Yakov was frowning but still eyed Victor with concern, and the two women practically jumped on Victor begging to see the baby who hid his face in the crook of Victor's neck as he trembled from fear and cold.
"Guy's hold on I still need to get him dressed," Victor said and went back to his room to dress Yuki, as quickly as he could he put a diaper on Yuki and dressed him in a long-sleeved onesie. "There's no need to be afraid Yuki they're all friends and family." He stroked his soft hair back and carried him back to the living room. Yakov sat on the couch his arms crossed against his chest and Mila and Sara sat together holding each other with loving smiles on their faces, Victor's heart clenched in pain. He remembered how Yuuri and him were like them, madly in love.
Yuki squirmed and huffed. "Someone's fussy." Mila laughed and turned to face Victor cuddling his son. "Can I pleeeaaassseee hold him." She fell to her knees and clasped her hands together. Victor rolled his eyes. "Alright, oh and how have you guy's been?" He asked curiously. "Sara my darling wants us to get married, but her brother has other ideas." Mila frowned and Sara sat beside her to comfort her. "I keep telling you we can marry secretly Mila." Sara stuck her tongue out at her. "It won't feel special though." Mila protested and Yakov grunted with a roll of his eyes.
Victor smiled and handed Yuki to Mila who stood with her arms outstretched looking like a child waiting for a present, at first Yuki was afraid not being able to recognize the women surrounding him, but knowing that his father was close by he calmed down. Victor sat by Yakov. "How have you been Yakov?" He asked quietly. "I should be asking you that," Yakov answered. "I'm fine you don't have to worry," Victor responded with a reassuring smile.
Yakov sighed. "It's been extra loud at the rink ever since Mila decided to bring Sara here, Michele was very upset about that." He pinched the bridge of his nose. "I'm sorry to hear that." Victor scratched the back of his neck. "...how's your son? Is he healthy and well?" Yakov asked awkwardly. "Why not see for yourself?" Victor suggested and stood, Mila and Sara were cooing at Yuki both of them made silly faces causing him to laugh. Victor sighed happily and waved at Yuki who now looked at him and squealed aloud.
Mila and Sara looked toward the direction Yuki looked at and met with a smiling Victor. "Hey Vitya, Yuki is so well behaved you know that?" Sara stated. "Of course, he's my child after all," Victor stated proudly puffing out his chest. "So narcissistic." Mila rolled her eyes. "Can I have my son back please?" He asked, ignoring her comment. "Aww, do I have to?" Mila pouted. And as if answering for Victor Yuki squirmed and reached out for him small whimpers escaping him. "Ah darn, alright." She sighed and returned Yuki to Victor. "Bye adorable baby." Mila waved with a goofy grin.
Sara wrapped her arms around Mila's waist and pouted up at her. "Hey don't neglect me." She whined completely taking Mila's attention, Victor turned away not wanting to ruin their moment and returned to Yakov who was reading a book from the bookcase near the television. "Ah...Yakov." Victor caught his attention. "Here's my Yuki." He sat back down beside him and carefully handed Yuki over to him.
Instantly Yakov froze, he was there the day after Yuki was born giving all the support he could give, and almost everyone met the newborn and even had a chance to hold him, but Yakov didn't. Just like Victor, he was afraid to hurt the small infant and he was just so afraid to hold him. Now with Yuki a bit older it was a little easier to hold him, Yakov supported his head and back and held him away from his chest to take a good look at his student's child. He had Victor's ears and nose, but the rest belonged to Victor's partner.
Yuki looked at Yakov with a small smile and extended his arm out grabbing his nose, Yakov's eyes widened as the baby squeezed his nose and laughed as he did so, Mila and Sara who had been watching closely to see how Yakov would react had their phones ready and took tons of pictures, but they never posted them due to their promise they made with Victor and Yuuri. Victor was literally dying inside and resisted the urge to squeeze his son and give him so much love and praise for just being so adorable.
A blush dusted over Yakov's cheeks he quickly had to regain his firm expression, he cleared his throat and waited for the infant to let go of his nose. Yuki gurgled nonsense and giggled when Yakov decided to just go along and make him laugh by making a silly face which shocked everyone around him. After finally letting go of his nose Yuki yawned and reached out to grasp onto Yakov's shirt only to fail in the process. "He shouldn't be sleepy." Victor frowned worriedly. "He hasn't eaten yet." Yakov handed Yuki back to Victor. "Get him something to eat before putting him to sleep." He said in a demanding tone.
"Y-yes.." Victor stammered and hugged Yuki to his chest he rested his hand against his forehead to check if he was running a temperature, which he was, he was a little warm. Though Victor remembered that Yuki didn't get enough sleep at night which was probably the reason for the temperature, even so, it was still a bit worrying. "So what made you guys want to visit suddenly?" He asked as he walked through the kitchen and opened the fridge, he grabbed a can of strawberry banana mush and then grabbed a spoon from the drawer.
Yakov answered his question. "Chris sent me a message through the phone." At that Victor tilted his head in confusion as he walked back to the living room. "Chris? I saw him the other day at the supermarket, he really saved me back there." Victor stated. "Yes, well. He called to say that he was a bit worried about you so he wanted me to check up on you." Yakov said the two women were oddly quiet as Yakov spoke to Victor. "Worried?" Victor sat on the ground and placed the can on the coffee table in front of him. "Vitya, we're all worried about you," Mila spoke this time.
Victor frowned. "Why? Really I'm fine." He assured and sat Yuki on his lap. "But you never call us anymore, and you never get out of the house, you're so isolated." Mila continued on. "There's not really that much to do, besides I have to take care of my Yuki," Victor explained with a smile toward his son, he grabbed the can and popped the top open. "I'm happy doing what I love, and that is spending my time with my son." He stated and fed Yuki a spoonful of the sweet mushed food.
"It's what Yuuri would've wanted." The words flew from his mouth, and soon enough the tension in the air was thick. "Vitya..." Victor's hand trembled, he had made a mistake. But choosing to ignore it he continued to feed his son. "All I wanted to say was that you don't have to worry so much about me. Look if it makes you feel better I'll go out with Yuki, and we'll have a great time. We'll both get some fresh air." He felt happy at the thought of finally going out with his son without being disrupted, he knew just where to go.
Although it was probably the most painful place to go it was still pretty isolated and small meaning no large crowds and cameras, no reporters or fans, just a quiet little town with people minding their own business letting you do whatever you please without being judged or videotaped. Just thinking about it was enough to bring a smile to Victor's face. "Yeah, we'll definitely go out." Victor gave another spoonful to Yuki. "Alright whatever you say, but please just promise you'll call us every now and then." Mila pleaded as Sara held her hand to comfort her.
Victor faced his friends, and family, giving them a reassuring smile. "I promise, I'm really sorry for worrying you guys. It's going to change though I've just been tired lately. Yuki's growing little by little, and even though he's tiny now he's still a handful." Victor chuckled and scratched the back of his head. Yuki had taken the spoon from Victor and gnawed on it coating it with his saliva. "It's still really early though, I mean who visits at four in the morning?" Victor chuckled. "Oh yeah sorry about that, there's not that much traffic this early and almost no cameras. We couldn't risk them following us here, especially with your little angel at the risk." Sara explained and kneeled beside Victor.
She cooed at the infant who continued to chew on the plastic spoon. "Really, thank you so much." Victor sighed happily and carefully stroked Yuki's soft hair. "We'd do anything to keep you and your son safe," Yakov said which tugged at Victor's heart, tears welled up in his icy blue eyes. "T-thank you..." he stammered and wiped his eyes, drying his tears. Yuki whimpered taking notice of his father's obvious upsetting mood and grasped at his shirt demanding his attention.
Mila patted Victor's back and gave him a smile. "Sorry about that." He sniffed and looked down at Yuki who whined and begged for his attention. "I'm okay Yuki." He rested his hand against his chubby cheek, Yuki giggled and let go of his spoon to grab a hold of his father's hand. "Paaa!" He squealed and leaned against his chest. The two girls squealed and took many pictures with their phones. "Phichit is going to love these!" Sara stated with a smile.
Yuki yawned and tried hard not to doze off, Victor smiled and wiped away the food smudges from Yuki's mouth. "Someone's tired." He stated and rubbed his back in soothing circles. "It is pretty early, and he didn't get enough sleep. He's been a bit restless lately." He explained with a frown. Yakov stood from his seat. "I think it's time for us to leave." The girls whined. "Do we have to?" Mila pouted. "Yuki needs his rest," Yakov replied gruffly. "Yes, he's still pretty exhausted." Victor agreed and scooped Yuki into his arms before getting up from the ground.
Mila sighed and pulled Sara close to her. "Okay fine, but don't forget to call okay?" She said with a worried tone. "I promise I will." Victor nodded. "Good, then we'll be on our way. Take care of yourself and of Yuki too." After exchanging a few hugs and goodbyes the women were on their way giggling to each other Yakov was the last to leave. "Vitya as the girls said please take care of yourself and your son." He tried to keep on a straight face as he stared down at Victor's dozing son.
A smile tugged at his lips. "Put him to bed, a growing boy needs his rest." Victor smiled widely at his coach's words. "I will." He answered. "Yakov, thank you." He hugged the older man, being careful not to hurt his son. "Take care Vitya." With another hug given he was gone leaving Victor with a humming Yuki. "Alright you, let's get you to bed." He stated after making sure that the front door was locked, he walked to his room where he rocked Yuki to sleep and grabbed his phone that rested on the counter, he carefully placed Yuki on the bed and hesitantly dialed a number with trembling hands.
His throat tightened and made it harder to swallow, he took a breath to calm himself and continued on. He pressed the call button and pressed the phone against his ear waited for someone to answer. He bit his lip, and his heart suddenly stopped when someone had finally answered. "H-hello?" He spoke with shakiness in his voice, obvious anxiety showing on his face. There was a gasp. "V-Vichan?" The person spoke with such surprise it sounded as if they were breathless.
Victor swallowed the lump in his throat. "Hiroko, it's been a while..."
