Chapter 2 (edited)
Victor groaned and pinched his nose as he removed Yuki's soiled diaper and rushed to throw it away, Yuki giggled and looked at Victor as he took a gulp of fresh air before returning with baby wipes, baby powder, and a fresh clean diaper. "You really are a stinker Yuki." Victor frowned as he wiped Yuki's bum and took the powder and shook some in his hand before applying it to his bum. "But better a clean baby than a dirty one." He stated and changed him into the clean diaper and snapped on the buttons of his blue onesie.
Victor smiled to himself and Yuki squealed. "Alright now let's get you ready for the store." He grabbed Yuki and cleaned the diaper station before rushing to Yuki's nursery and placed him in the crib, Yuki instantly got fussy wanting Victor to hold him, and as much as it broke Victor's heart he knew he had to get ready or his son would starve. The fridge was nearly empty, and Victor was not able to get out of the house much due to media and fans. Rushing to grab a clean onesie from the dresser he gave out a delightful sigh when he grabbed a pastel blue onesie that had a picture of a panda on the tiny little breast pocket.
He rushed back to Yuki and undid the buttons once again and carefully pulled off the food stained onesie, Yuki whined and grunted but was still glad that his father was back, Victor softly pinched Yuki's soft tummy earning a high pitched giggle, Yuki's skin was smooth and pale just like Victor's, and was also very sensitive and delicate. Victor chuckled and changed Yuki into the onesie squealing at how cute his son looked in it, but a sullen frown appeared on his face after making sure that the crib was not loose he placed a kiss on Yuki's forehead and ever so quickly ran to his room to grab a change of clothes and then ran back to the nursery where the empty bathroom door was open.
By then Yuki had begun to whimper due to the absence of his father and his lip trembled, he looked around and grabbed the bars of the wooden gate to stand. His short chubby legs trembled as he looked around and wailed aloud with tears in his huge eyes, Victor turned on the water of the shower making sure to keep the door and the curtain slightly open just in case there was an emergency. He bit his lip as Yuki's cries reached his ears making his heart clench in sudden pain, and so Victor quickly undressed and hopped into the shower. He washed his hair being careful not to get any soap in his eyes and then washed his body, Yuki continued to cry up to the point where his voice sounded strained.
Victor felt absolutely useless at the moment he wanted to always be by Yuki's side, but there were some setbacks that kept him from doing so. After the quick shower Victor turned off the water and carefully climbed out the shower wrapping himself in a towel he shivered when the cold air hit his exposed skin and he grabbed his clothes to dress, he wore a gray sweater and faded jeans the weather outside was chilly. Rushing back out with his hair still wet he dashed to the crib where Yuki was full on bawling his eyes out his face was bright red, and his voice was almost gone. Victor scooped Yuki up into his arms and shushed him rocking him in his arms whispering sweet words to him.
Yuki had instantly calmed down though occasional whimpers were still given each time he took a breath breaking Victor's heart greatly. "I'm so sorry." Victor apologized. "But if you take a shower now you'll get sick when you go outside." A frown made its way to his lips as he stared down at Yuki who rested his head against his chest small trembles wracked through his tiny body. "Oh, baby..." Victor sighed and grabbed the small plush blanket from the crib.
It was Yuki's first blanket, the one Yuuri bought for him, and he absolutely adored it. Victor wrapped Yuki up in the blanket and grabbed a clean pacifier from the cabinets in the bathroom. Taking notice that his hair was still wet Victor knew it was going to be bad when he went outside, but he was not going to put Yuki down, he just couldn't face his son in tears anymore it broke him too much. Grabbing his car keys, a large hat, sunglasses, a scarf, and a backpack containing Yuki's stuff and a wallet Victor held Yuki close to his chest and prepared himself to go outside.
First, he wrapped the scarf around his neck to hide his face along with the dark sunglasses and large hat, he gave Yuki the pacifier and was quick to avoid any cameras or paparazzi. Yuuri's disappearance had somewhat made Victor famous having shared his story many people around the world felt pity for him, and the media wanted to know everything he was doing to cope with his loss. But there was a problem, Yuki was kept a secret, no one knows Yuki exists and Victor wants to keep it that way. He and Yuuri had both agreed on it.
They wanted to protect their child from harm, and what more than to keep him a secret from the whole world filled with so many bad people. And they actually pulled it off only allowing family and close trustful friends to know about Yuki's existence. The wind was harsh and cold sending a shiver down Victor's spine, Yuki whimpered and leaned closer against Victor's chest cuddling for warmth. Victor shielded Yuki from the wind with his arms and rushed to get to his car, opening the backdoor where the car seat was Victor climbed in and strapped Yuki in the seat. "I'm right here Yuki, papa is going to drive now okay." He placed a kiss on his forehead and climbed out readjusting his scarf and glasses.
Hopping into the driver's seat he started the car and cranked up the heater. "You warm back there?" He asked with a smile getting a small hum in response, Victor sighed in relief and ran his hand through his wet hair as he drove. He groaned finally realizing that it was going to be hard to shop while hiding his and his son's identity with so many people around it was sure to be difficult, but definitely not impossible. Victor had done it so many times before without being caught, but with so many demands from the public, the media had gotten more aggressive. Yuki gurgled to himself saliva running down his lips and chin his pacifier resting on his belly.
Sometimes Victor wondered what exactly was going on in his son's head as he gurgled and squealed, and sometimes he would giggle out of nowhere even in his sleep. Victor took a breath when the supermarket came into view his palms grew sweaty and his clothes clung to his skin as if he had just been soaked from head to toe his heart quickened in pace and his stomach did flips. Meanwhile, Yuki had begun to suck on his fingers coating his fingers with saliva and drool. "Ready for a hectic day?" Victor asked with a sour frown. He parked his car close to the entrance just in case he had to immediately leave, before climbing out to take Yuki out of the car seat he opened the backpack and pulled out a cute panda beanie that matched with Yuki's adorable outfit.
With a smile, Victor climbed out of the car and went in to fetch his son who smiled when he appeared above him taking off the seatbelts. "It's still pretty cold," Victor stated and carefully pulled on the beanie covering Yuki's ears so that he wouldn't get any ear aches he adored how beautiful and adorable Yuki looked. "Need a picture!" Victor pulled out his phone from his pocket and took a couple of pictures of Yuki reminding himself to send them to Phichit later on. Yuki giggled and outstretched his chubby arms to Victor demanding him to carry him. "As you command your highness." Victor chuckled and pulled Yuki into his arms.
Yuki took in tiny fistfuls of Victor's shirt and buried his face in his father's chest searching for warmth, Victor took notice of his son's desperate attempts for warmth and quickly grabbed the blanket and wrapped him in it, he grabbed the pacifier that was on the car seat and shut the door closed and set the alarm. He pulled up his scarf with his free hand and kept his gaze to the ground as he walked into the supermarket, Yuki stayed surprisingly quiet surprising Victor a bit, but he understood that Yuki was probably tired and needed another nap.
Victor took out a crumpled balled up paper from his pocket and straightened it out reading the scrawled letters on the paper, his grocery list, it consisted of milk, eggs, bread, baby food, and more diapers. With a groan Victor slumped his shoulders and grabbed a cart when he tried to pull Yuki away from his chest he was shocked to see how stubborn Yuki was and never let go of his shirt as if dear life depended on it that had caused Victor to laugh and Yuki joined along catching the attention of many people, especially women.
Victor took notice of the many eyes staring at him and quickly shut his mouth biting his lip, but Yuki still occasionally giggled every now and then. "You're so silly today." Victor cooed and tapped Yuki's small nose making a small 'boop' noise as he did so. "Let's see, let us start with the bread first." And with that Victor walked around silently avoiding any eye contact from anybody that passed by him though some people would pass and wave at Yuki trying to make him giggle or smile which didn't work since the only person who could make him laugh was his father.
The cart was nearly full of the groceries he needed after a long while of strolling around the frozen aisle for the milk and eggs, finally, the only thing he needed was the diapers and baby food. Victor's arm was getting tired of holding the small bundle for a long time, but knowing Yuki he would probably start crying if Victor put him down even if it were for a second, and Victor definitely did not want to see any more tears on Yuki's precious face.
Sucking it up Victor walked toward the baby aisle and grabbed a box of the diapers Yuki used, and then he searched through the many cups and cans of baby food, he took mostly fruit, but knowing that Yuki needed more than just fruit he took peas and carrots and sweet potato and there was a rather unappetizing green looking one it was broccoli and spinach. "Gross! Yuki they're trying to poison you!" Victor exclaimed with a horrified look on his face Yuki laughed at Victor's expression and extended an arm out to him. A woman nearby had been staring from a distance with a look of happiness on her heart-shaped face, so she walked up behind Victor and tapped his shoulder which startled him greatly.
He quickly turned around holding Yuki close. "A-ah yes?" He stammered out once he met with the pasty-faced woman. "Hi there, I'm sorry but I just couldn't resist. Is he yours?" She asked kindly giving a smile to Yuki. "Yes." Victor nodded. "He's so adorable, I have a child of my own he's six now, but the one that I would suggest would probably be the chicken with chicken gravy." She grabbed a brown tinted can and handed it to Victor with a smile. "I guarantee it'll help him grow big and strong." Victor was thankful for the woman's help, but when she leaned forward to lightly pinch Yuki's cheek Victor's parenting and protective instincts had kicked in and he instantly backed away from her pressing Yuki against his chest in a protective manner.
His eyes were wide and filled with fear behind the huge sunglasses, and the woman gave him a confused look. "I...I'm sorry." He mumbled and dropped his gaze to the ground, he took the various cans of baby food and quickly turned away. He rushed to the check out isles and waited in a long line. Yuki began to get fussy and grunted while he squirmed in Victor's arms. "Yuki calm down love we're almost done." Victor shushed and calmed down the fussy infant his scarf slipped a bit along with his hat, they were so loose now so close to falling off, a sheen of sweat formed on his forehead and his heartbeat went crazy. The people in front of him took glances over their shoulders to look at Yuki, he was babbling nonsense, and he was just so adorable with his little panda onesie and beanie. He was just too darn cute.
And just as one person was about to go up to him again a firm hand slapped him on his shoulder. "Honey I told you to wait for me!" The voice was familiar and brought on a relieved smile to Victor's face, he turned around and was so glad to meet his best friend, Chris. He grinned as Chris winked at him. "I've been looking all over for you!" By now the people minded their own business and turned away. "Sorry, I'm just in a rush." Victor sighed. Chris readjusted Victor's scarf and hat before readjusting his own raising his plush scarf up a bit higher. "Thank you." Victor breathed out.
After paying for the groceries Chris walked Victor to his car and helped him load the groceries in the trunk as Yuki slept soundly in his car seat already safely strapped in. "Thank you so much, Chris, I don't know what would've happened if you hadn't arrived." Victor chuckled and gave Chris a tight hug. "No problem, anything for a friend." Chris patted Victor's back and pulled away from the embrace giving him a sorrowful smile. "Just know I'm always a phone call away. If you need anything, and I mean anything, just give me a call." He grasped onto Victor's shoulder and stared into his friend's eyes.
Victor smiled. "Thank you so much, Chris, I will definitely call you." He agreed and held onto Chris's hand giving it a light squeeze thanking him one last time before giving him a goodbye hug and climbed into his car. Chris walked back to his own car watching as Victor drove off he leaned against the trunk and crossed his arms heaving a long sigh. "Victor...you've changed so much." He lifted his gaze to the sky. "But not in the good kind. Make sure you give it your all. Or you'll end up losing everything." Muttering those words under his breath he shook his head and cleared his mind before climbing into his car taking his leave.
Back home Victor lied Yuki in the nest of blankets on his bed and packed everything into place, once done he peeled off the choking scarf and the glasses and hat and kneeled beside his bed where Yuki lied peacefully, he stroked Yuki's cheek with his finger and sighed. "Yuki..." He started. "Can I really protect you for life?" He rested his head on the bed. "I don't want to lose you too, because if I do. Then it'd really be the end of Victor Katsuki Nikiforov." The end of his own existence.
But Victor knew it was only him and Yuki now, and he swore to himself that even without Yuuri in the picture he would give Yuki a wonderful life, a life where he is always happy and smiling and there's no pain. A world with no violence and blinding camera lights, a world of just peace and equality. Victor smiled.
A perfect world for his child to live in.
