Chapter 1 (edited)
The silver-haired man awoke with a jolt as the cry of an infant reached his ears, with frantic movements he scrambled off his bed and rushed toward the room down the hall ignoring the cold tiled ground. Entering the room the cries became louder with each step he took forward. "Yuki!" His voice trembled as he leaned toward the rickety crib peering to gaze at the small bawling baby.
The infant's face was flushed bright red as tears slid down its pink cheeks, it had a head of black hair curling around its ears, and its eyes were a lovely chocolate brown. Victor sighed, relieved that his son wasn't hurt. Yes, his son, well it was his and his husband's son. But....his husband wasn't there. A lump had formed in Victor's throat as he scooped his son into his arms and cradled him almost protectively. "Shh, it's okay. I'm here." He cooed quietly in an attempt to soothe his son back to sleep, but the infant continued to cry.
Victor's heart ached as his son's cries continued on. "Yuki my love it's okay papa is here now." He pressed the whimpering baby close to his chest and rocked him back and forth. "I'll always be here." He mumbled as a single tear trailed down his cheek he flinched and quickly wiped the stray tear from his cheek with his free hand. "Let's go to bed." He mumbled and trudged back to his room with his son now quieting down, he winced when his feet came in contact with the cold tiled ground, but he ignored it and focused on his son whose eyes were half-lidded.
With a forced smile, Victor kissed the top of his son's head and carefully climbed back into his bed and made a small nest-like bed with a couple of blankets on the other side of his large bed. He waited for a moment and stared down at his son who was now completely silent his small chest rose and fell with each tiny breath he took and his eyes were closed, he looked like a sleeping angel. An absolutely beautiful angel that was too innocent and lovely to live a life of suffering. Just like his father.
Victor ever so slowly laid his son in the small nest bed it was secure enough that it would hold him in place if he were to roll in his sleep, and just for extra precaution, Victor had made a pillow barrier to separate him and his son. He was afraid that if he slept and tossed and turned like he always did he would end up hurting his son, his nightmares always left him breathless and bewildered with his heart nearly stopping. Not wanting to remember the nightmares Victor took a breath and looked toward the nightstand and slowly with a trembling hand he opened the top drawer and let out a soft cry.
Tears had filled his eyes and gushed out, large fat tears rolled down his cheeks as he grabbed a thin paper and pulled it out, it was a photo. A photo of him and his husband, Yuuri Katsuki. He sniffed. "Yuuri...where are you love?" His voice wavered. "You're missing out on so much." He looked at the bundle of blankets beside him. "Our son needs his mommy." His heart throbbed painfully. "And I need my husband." He allowed himself to let out his pain for a moment staring at the photo in his trembling hands as his son slept soundly beside him.
After a while, he put the picture back where it was kept and reluctantly lied down and scooted closer to the bundle of blankets, but still made sure not to cross the pillow barrier. A long while passed before sleep began to take him over, and then he drifted off with the reassurance that his son was there with him safe and sound.
When he awoke he was met with the sun hitting his face, and adorable gurgles coming from beside him. He propped himself up on his elbow and peered over the bundle of blankets to look at the small baby sucking on his fingers. Yuki was the baby's name, both Victor and Yuuri loved the name since it matched with the season Victor was born on. Winter. And Yuki, meaning snow. Yuki looked at Victor with wide eyes and giggled loudly. "Good morning my love." Victor chuckled and scooped Yuki into his arms. "Are you hungry? I'm sure you are since you're almost eating your fingers." He laughed and pulled Yuki's fingers out of his mouth.
He earned himself a high pitched squeal. "Sorry, but I can't have you missing any fingers." He stated and walked over to the kitchen where he placed Yuki in his highchair and strapped on the seatbelt. "How does peaches sound?" He asked curiously, Yuki gurgled nonsense slamming his small hand against the top of the plastic removable tray. "Peaches it is." He smiled and went over to the fridge opening it up and grabbed the cup of mixed peaches. He grabbed himself a couple of eggs to make for breakfast and closed the fridge setting the cup in front of Yuki who was now becoming impatient.
Victor laughed and opened the cup and then rushed to the stove where he grabbed a pan and set it on top the now open flame, he grabbed a spoon in the process and cracked the eggs in the pan before returning to Yuki who squealed in annoyance. "Sorry!" Victor laughed and fed him a spoonful of the peaches. "I don't have a lot of arms okay?" And the hectic cycle went on with him cooking his breakfast and feeding his son. When his breakfast was done he grabbed his son from the highchair and walked over to the living room where he placed both his plate of eggs and the cup of peaches on the coffee table before sitting crisscrossed on the ground.
He placed Yuki on his lap and they both ate their breakfast together, they watched t.v. too but Yuki just looked around and squirmed out of Victor's lap. It was going to be a bit worrisome now since Yuki was now learning to crawl, as expected for a 6-month-old baby, Victor chuckled as Yuki lied flat on his stomach and then placed his tiny chubby hands on the ground. He then tried to lift himself up but his head stayed on the ground, his chubby arms trembled at his desperate attempt to get up, and then he gave up and stayed there.
He sniffed and a set of tears made their way to his flushed cheeks worrying Victor greatly. "Oh, Yuki!" He grabbed him and set him back on his lap making his son face him. And as his son stared at him with tears trailing down his cheeks a pang shot through Victor's chest, Yuki looked exactly like his other father with fluffy black hair and beautiful chocolate brown eyes it was sometimes so painful when he realized how similar they looked.
"Don't cry, love.." Victor stated and carefully wiped away his son's tears. "You did absolutely amazing I'm so proud of you!" He forced on a wide smile and placed a kiss on Yuki's forehead earning himself a well-deserved giggle from the infant. "You're papa's little champion." He held Yuki in a loving embrace enjoying the feeling of holding the tiny being in his arms happy that he was not alone. But he couldn't say the same about...His husband Yuuri.
Yuuri disappeared two months after their son was born he was living with Victor in Russia after the skating finals, and after that, they got married and had Yuki. Then one day Yuuri wanted to visit his family and didn't want to bring Yuki he feared that the plane ride would somehow harm him due to how small he still was so Victor agreed to stay allowing Yuuri to go on his own, the day he left to the airport was the last day Victor saw him.
He was talked about on the news the whole world was looking around trying to find Victor's missing husband, but there has still been no word about him. Some police are saying that he is dead, but Victor refuses to believe them, he just couldn't accept that his lover was...was gone. The sound of his phone shook him from his thoughts Yuki was drooling on his shirt. "Eww!" Victor whined and stood from the ground holding Yuki close as he rushed back to the kitchen where he left his phone on the counter, he smiled as he recognized the caller ID and answered it with his free arm while the other held Yuki to keep him from falling. "Hello, Yurio!" Victor answered happily.
"Don't call me that you old man!" The teen on the other line growled. "Oops sorry." Victor chuckled and walked back to the living room where he slumped onto the couch, Yuki stood on Victor's lap resting his tiny hands against Victor's chest taking fistfuls of his shirt to keep balance. "What's wrong? Usually, you don't call me unless it's an emergency." Victor stated Yurio was quiet for a while before responding. "H-how's the little piglet?" He asked hesitantly the question had caught Victor off guard, but he answered anyway. "He's fine, he's right here with me. Yuki say hi to your big brother." Victor faced the phone to Yuki who squealed happily.
Yurio laughed hearing the baby's little squeal. "Hey, little piglet. How's my little brother? Are you behaving? Don't give your old man a hard time." He called out wondering if he heard him but suddenly blushed when Otabek looked over at him with a sly smile. "Ah.." His face turned a bright red. "Did you hear him Yurio?" Victor asked. "Y-yeah," Yurio grumbled in response. "Are you okay?" Victor asked again taking notice of the change of tone in Yurio's voice. "Hm? Oh yeah, look I just wanted to check up on you and the piglet, take care of yourself okay? I'll call you later on." And with that, he ended the call ready to pounce on Otabek who was now laughing to himself.
Victor, on the other hand, was smiling happily that Yurio had called, and that he as well sounded happy. Yuki was gurgling nonsense to himself and fell on his butt on the couch. "Did you have a nice chat with your big brother?" Victor asked jokingly and tapped Yuki's small nose. "He's grown up a lot now, and he's dating Otabek too I'm pretty sure they'll get married soon." Victor sighed. "And maybe they'll have a baby too, and you'll have someone to play with. Wait." Victor hummed in thought. "If Yurio did have a baby, would that make you an uncle?" He gasped aloud startling his son. "If they did have one soon you would be a very young uncle!" He exclaimed.
Yuki's lips trembled and looked as if he were about to cry. "Oh! I'm sorry!" Victor apologized and placed various kisses on Yuki's face causing the infant to laugh. "Papa is scaring you a lot today isn't he?" Victor frowned, Yuki looked at his father with a small tilt of his head. "But don't be scared of papa I'm the person who will always protect you from other scary people, like Mila she gets very scary when you get her in a bad mood." Victor extended his hand out to Yuki who instantly grabbed his finger and brought it to his mouth. "But Sara always calms her down, they make a good couple."
Victor laughed as Yuki's gums gnawed on his finger along with the small number of tiny teeth. "I wonder when your teeth will fully come out, now that'll be a hard time." Drool ran down Victor's hand. "Ewww Yuki." Victor stuck his tongue out at him, but didn't bother to pull his hand away he didn't want Yuki to cry, whenever Yuki cried it would always break Victor's heart and made him want to cry too. Yuki had finally let go of Victor's hand after a long while and slapped his tiny hand on Victor's cheek. "Paaaa..." He gurgled out, and Victor instantly froze.
His eyes went wide. "Y-you..." He couldn't find the right words his mind was jumbled and his heart was going crazy. "You tried saying it!" He exclaimed aloud and brought Yuki into his arms bringing him close to his chest. "I'm so happy." He babbled as tears pricked at the corners of his eyes hugging Yuki close to his heart. "I love you so much." He whispered and carefully ran his hand through Yuki's soft delicate hair.
Victor swayed back and forth humming a happy tune with a wide smile plastered on his face as Yuki leaned his head against Victor's chest and yawned tiredly. "Hm? Oh, are you tired?" Victor asked quietly. "Of course, you are still so small." He mumbled and looked down at Yuki who was now dozing off, Yuki was a very tiny baby they had to perform surgery on Yuuri in order for him to be born a healthy baby. Victor remembered Yuki's first cry as they pulled him out, and he remembered crying when he saw how tiny his son was, and he was so scared to hold him too because he just looked so delicate and easy to break.
Now he was still smaller than the other 6-month-old babies, but thankfully he was still growing which explained why Yuki slept a lot too. He needed lots of rest in order to grow, Victor carefully walked over to Yuki's nursery and pushed the door open with his shoulder careful not to wake the sound asleep infant in his arms, the nursery was painted a baby blue and the crib was built by Victor himself, he had wanted to surprise Yuuri by building it all by himself, and sure enough Yuuri was surprised but still worried after he saw all the cuts and bruises Victor sustained.
Carefully Victor pried Yuki's tiny fingers from his shirt and gently lied him down in the crib, once certain that Yuki was still sound asleep he slowly pulled his hand away from his tiny back and bottom. But Yuki had instantly missed the sound of his father's heartbeat, and the comforting warmth he gave, and he whimpered as the cold air hit him. Victor winced and instantly regretted letting go of Yuki who now began to cry he was quick to act though, and instantly scooped Yuki back into his arms softly patting his back and swaying back and forth. "Shhh, I'm here." He whispered in a soothing tone lulling his child back to sleep.
Victor breathed a sigh of relief and held Yuki even close to his chest securing him in his arms. "Well...I do enjoy holding you like this." He muttered. "I can get used to this." He smiled and trudged out of the nursery and toward his own room, the sun was fully up it was probably around 10 or 11 in the morning, and soon enough Yuki would wake and Victor would have to face the deadliest obstacle. Changing Yuki's diaper.
