The Cat and the Baby
The night of October 31st, 1981 was a very hectic night for much of the wizarding world. It was exceptionally so for the Longbottom family. Words of what had happened earlier at the Potter Cottage that same day spread like wildfire, as the particular circumstances were indeed *everybody's* business, as it had become apparent to be.
It was at the crack of dawn the next morning when a cat and a baby appeared at the Longbottom's doorstep; however, this wasn't much of a shock to Frank and Alice Longbottom. After all, Lily Potter and Alice had made a deal that if something happened to either of the two that the other would raise treat their child as their own. Luckily, the two boys, of whom were known as Harry Potter and Neville Longbottom, were just barely a day apart in age.
The cat delivering the baby was familiar to the two parents, as it was common knowledge between them that this particular cat was, in fact, a Hogwarts professor who had taught them at a time that had seemed to be so many years ago.
"I would have expected Dumbledore himself to show up, professor McGonagall," Frank divulged as the cat transformed smoothly into an old Scottish woman.
"Well, if I must be completely honest with you, he wanted to send the boy off to his muggle Aunt's. I spent half the day yesterday practically interrogating Ms. Figg - that squib he seems to be so fond of - about the woman. Well, with the information I have, I just couldn't leave the boy with those people." McGonagall hoisted the basket, a sleeping baby boy within.
"It's not that I particularity wanted to disobey the headmaster's orders; It had taken a lot of convincing, but there is a custody case at the end of the week. If that muggle sister of Lily's shows up she might still have a chance, but I think we have a pretty good claim here as well... or, at least, I hope."
