25| LET'S KIDNAP NIXON

[ Chapter Twenty-Five ]

❝Sometimes I wonder how we get away with things.❞

[The Getaway]

"That is more about Tricky Dick than I ever needed to know." Sara grimaced as she ended a news clip of Richard Nixon spilling truth to the press.

"And it's more than the public needed to know." Gideon chimed in, "In the days following the news conference, Nixon found himself unable to tell a lie, resulting in global chaos."

"Yep, sounds about right." Myra said as she drank a latte from beside Charlie.

"Nixon's blathering fouled up ongoing peace talks and trade agreements." Charlie read off the screen.

"Without the release of 'All the President's Men,' Robert Redford's career floundered." Ray continued reading.

"What?" Mick yelled, interrupting, "No Redford? No Sundance, no indie film, no artful nudity. We have to fix this!"

"Wow, someone's a little too enthusiastic today." Myra grumbled.

"The only thing nastier then a politician lying is when he says how he really feels." Charlie spoke up, "Now, there's no way he'd tell the truth without a magical assist."

"I hope the Watergate has vacancies, because we need to make sure that Nixon still cheats the press." Sara said and started to walk out.

"Uh, Captain's orders and all, but do you think it's really the best time to be back on mission?" Ray asked, turning to her and Charlie came up beside him.

"Yeah, I mean, it might do well to take a beat." Charlie added.

Myra nodded, and moved beside Charlie, leaning an arm on her shoulder, "Yeah, I'm with them, on this one."

"I appreciate your concern, but I'll be fine. Just because Ava and I had a disagreement doesn't mean that I can't do my job." Sara argued.

"I was actually talking about the fact that we're on the outs with the Time Bureau." Ray said.

"Yeah, and I was talking about Mona." Charlie added, "I mean, Hank's gonna be after us since her boyfriend offed that agent and, well, we can't just stash her here forever."

"To be fair, I was talking about your relationship, but they're right as well." Myra said and then took a sip of her coffee.

"Right, well, it has been eventful but things are gonna blow over with The Bureau. We'll find a safe space for Mona. And in the meantime, I feel like we should be doing what we do best. Am I right?" Sara asked.

"Right. Save Redford and independent film." Mick agreed before leaving the bridge.

"That's the spirit." Sara said somewhat confusedly.

"Done it for worse reasons." Ray sighed.

"Why not?" Charlie agreed.

"Yeah sure, what could go wrong?" Myra added, following them out.

"So, who the hell am I supposed to be?" Myra asked, looking at her outfit.

"You're our assistant." Ray said, looking at his lab coat which was matching with Sara's.

"Okay..." Myra trailed off, "Not to question your impeccable judgment Captain, but how are we supposed to kidnap Nixon and bring him back here in order to figure out what's wrong with him? He's the president. He'll have like thirty secret service men around him."

"Which is why we're posing as doctors." Sara said.

"Well psychiatrists, really." Ray added.

Sara clicked her fingers at him, "Yes. Besides, Charlie will pose as Nixon for the time being and we'll get him back before anyone notices that he wasn't really there."

"Sometimes I wonder how we get away with things." Myra mumbled as she followed Sara and Ray into the Walter Reed Medical Center.

The three had stashed Charlie in a hamper and somehow they all got past the Secret Service men and were led into the room where Nixon was being kept.

"I'm telling you, I'm not crazy. In fact, I've never felt better in my life. That's the truth." Nixon said with his arms crossed.

"You hear that? The truth." A Secret Service man leaned in to them, "Something is very wrong with the President. And he's supposed to be at Disney's contemporary hotel to address the entire American press core tomorrow."

"We'll, uh, we'll take care of it." Ray assured him.

"I'll update the VP." The man said before leaving.

"All right, sir." Ray nodded and pulled a sedative out of his pocket, "We'll start off with a little sedative."

Charlie threw off the cover of the hamper and stood up, "Don't know why you lot are relying on my powers. They're still all mucked up."

"You'll be fine, babe." Myra whispered to her.

"Look, it'll be fine. We'll get him to the ship, fix what's wrong, and we'll be right back." Sara assured her.

"Now, let's see your Nixon impression." Ray said, putting Nixon in the hamper.

Charlie sighed before shifting into Nixon.

"Nice." Sara said approvingly and then pressed her comn, "We got the cargo. We're on our way."

"Well, let's figure out what loosed his tongue and get the hell out of here, shall we?" John responded.

"Okay let's go." Sara nodded at them as they pushed the hamper into the hallway and to the elevator.

Suddenly a portal opened and John, Mick and Mona rushed through.

"What's going on?" Ray asked.

"What the hell are you guys doing here?" Myra asked.

"Nate's old man commandeered the ship." John explained.

"Well that's just great." Myra cursed.

"There they are!" A Time Bureau agent yelled rushing down the hallway towards them.

"Okay, take the stairs." Sara told them, "Get Nixon."

Mona and Sara rushed down the stairs as Mick and Ray grabbed Nixon. John quickly muttered a spell at the doors effectively trapping the Time Bureau agents before Myra grabbed his hand and pulled him after her.

The Legends emerged outside and looked around making sure no one was following them.

"How are we going to make distance with six of us and a kidnapped Nixon?" Ray asked.

"There. There's our getaway." Mick pointed at a camper van with the words 'The Get Away' on it.

"And that's not obvious at all." Myra muttered.

"Yeah. That's a bit on the nose, no" John added.

"We left subtlety back in Mexico." Sara commented as she ushered the Legends into the camper van.

"Well this should be interesting." Myra said, as she sat down, next to John and Ray jumped in the driver's seat and quickly drove away.
