"Rainkit! Get back here!"

A young, blue-gray kit was scampering around camp, causing lots of trouble.

Her mother, Tawnyheart, was attempting to catch her.

"Never! I am the fearless, awesome Rainstar!"the kit exclaimed. Her brother, Hailkit, looked at her from the nursery.

She scampered over to Hailkit.
"And this is Hailheart, my loyal deputy!"

"But 'Hailheart' is a terrible name!" her brother retorted. Suddenly, a warrior sprang out of their den and landed in front of Rainkit. She crashed into the tabby tom, realizing it was her father.

"Daddy!" Rainkit exclaimed with joy.

"What are you doing over here, Rainkit?"

"I'm not Rainkit. I'm Rainstar!"

"Ah. Feirce little leader, now, are you?"

She growled in response and pounced on her father's tail.

"Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey join here beneath the Highrock!" Rainkit looked up. Petalsar, the leader, stood on the Highrock. She bounded over. Maybe I'm becoming an apprentice!
But Sandkit and Windkit sat at the base of the huge rock, chests swelling with pride and joy. Mouse-dung. Now Sandkit will be even bossier! She thought, disappointed.

"Windkit and Sandkit have reached their sixth moon, and are ready to become apprentices. From this day forward Windkit will be known as Windpaw. Branchfur will be your mentor. Branchfur, you have qualities of a good mentor, and I trust you will pass on your qualities to Windpaw."
My father is Windpaw's mentor? Wow.

Sandkit, from this moment forward, you will be known as Sandpaw. Jagged claw will be your mentor. Jaggedclaw, you have good sense, and I trust you will pass on your strength and sense to Sandpaw."

"Go Windpaw!" Hailkit called out. Rainkit looked at him. He looked back at her, and smiled. Sandpaw was bounding over to the other apprentices. I can't wait to be an apprentice!

Rainkit looked up as Petalstar as she called the can't attention. "I have another announcement to make. I am expecting Firestorm's kits!" At this she hopped off the rock and the clan started congradulating her. Some cats were saying how they 'knew it would it happen' and 'I'm not too surprised.' Firestorm's chest was swelled in pride.

Petalstar and Firestorm walked over to the leader's den and sat down. The other warriors departed, and the new apprentices went off with their mentors. Ashpool went to her den. Rainkit followed.

"Well, hello, Rainkit. How are you?" Ashpool said, noticing Rainkit.
"Good. What's this?" She answered, pointing her tail at a small, purple purple flower. "That's lavender. It cures fever." Ashpool meowed.
"Did you give it to Hailkit when he got a fever? It smells familiar."
"I did, Rainkit, you're very good at remembering." Rainkit pounced over to another plant, a pile of yellow petals, with joy.

"And this is marigold? For infections." Ashpool nodded. She started to show Rainkit other herbs, and told her their uses. Wow, She thought, That's a lot of plants.

"Rainkit!" Her mother called to her.
"Coming mama! Bye Ashpool!" She scampered off. I want to be a medicine cat!

She went to her nest and curled up next to Tawnyheart, and fell into a dreamless sleep.
