Chapter One

"Mouse dung!" Rainpaw yowled as the mouse scurried away.

"Don't let your tail drag on the ground." Her mentor, Stormfire instructed.

She huffed and followed its scent trail

Finally, she found it. The small mouse nibbling on the acorns below a thick oak tree. She crouched, careful not to let her tail drag on the autumn leaves. The tabby leaped up and pounced squarely on it. She sunk her teeth in to quickly kill her unsuspecting prey.

"Good!" Stormfire complemented.

Rainpaw beamed at the complement and buried her prey to bring back later. By then she had picked up the small scent of squirrel, and headed off in that direction, her mentor following close behind.

Then she saw it, she started stalking towards it. "Rainpa-" Stormfire started to say. Suddenly she was knocked over by another cat and was pinned down.

She looked up to see Eaglepaw, a NightClan apprentice. "What are you doing on NightClan territory?" He hissed in her face.

"I'm not on Nig-" she looked over to the thick birch tree that marked the border. "Oh..." Eaglepaw slashed her face and she screeched in pain.

Stormfire came bolting over. "Eaglepaw, it was just an acc-" Before he could finish, Rainpaw wiggled out of his grasp and clawed his side, leaving thick cuts. Eaglepaw tried to leap at her, but she rolled out of the way, leaving him to crash into a tree.

Rainpaw skidded but managed to stand up straight to make and escape. "This isn't over!" Eaglepaw yowled after her.

She kept running. Her paws thudded on the cold forest floor for what seemed like forever. The two finally slowed down as they neared the heart of the territory. Rainpaw stopped to dig up her mouse before running to catch up to Stormfire.

As they entered camp, she set her prey down in the fresh kill pile and went to go talk to her sisters- Hopepaw and Sunpaw. She found them sitting next to the pool of water in the middle of camp.

"Hey Rainpaw!" Hopepaw said cheerfully.

"Heyy..." Sunpaw said nervously. What's wrong with her? She's usually never this quiet! Rainpaw thought, concerned.

Suddenly Sunpaw yawned. "I'm tired, I'm going to go to bed.. bye!" And she darted away towards the apprentice den.

Rainpaw looked at Hopepaw. "What's wrong with her?"

Hopepaw shrugged. "I don't know, she was fine till you came."

"I can't remember doing anything mean to her." Rainpaw said, frowning.

Hopepaw shook her head worriedly. "it's dark, we better get some sleep." Rainpaw nodded and followed her into the apprentice den. Sunpaw was in her nest, and at the sight of Rainpaw she yawned and laid her head down.

Rainpaw whispered to Hopepaw. "That yawn was obviously fake." Hopepaw nodded and curled up in her nest, and Rainpaw did the same.

The sounds cats quietly chatting slowly faded into silence, and the sound of a river. She opened her eyes again and was surprised to see a forest. Not her sisters and the cave's stone walls.

There was something eerie about this forest thought. It was dark, looking through the trees was almost pitch black.

She noticed she was near a small cliff. The tabby slowly walked over to it, afraid of what she would see of she looked down.

It was only a river. A dark and murky river.

Rainpaw scrunched her nose and turned back around, only to face a tall and slender white she-cat.

"Welcome to the Darkforest."
