Opening

Eva's Pov.

It was the start of the school year at Birchstone High school. I was entering my sophomore year and I was excited. The air was crisp from fall rolling in. BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! Quickly, I slammed my fist on my alarm. Slowly, I rose from my bed to see an obsidian sky reach my gaze. Arg! I groaned realizing I had to go to bible study before school. Apparently my parents were not pleased with me waking up "to slow," so my father came in and slapped my face.

"Eva, you know you have to be faster if you set your alarm later," my father scolded. I checked my watch to see it was 4:30 in the morning. My whole life has been like this. Every Sunday I went to church for 8 hours. I went night and day to learn about a god that may or may not be real. My ass would be beat for even questioning the religion. School is my only escape from my insane parents. Thankfully my parents don't send me to religious school or I would go even crazier.

"Get in the car now!" my father shouted. I ran to the car with my stuff and stuffed myself into the back of the car. My mother was silent for in our religion women cannot make choices. Damn Evangelicals are the reason I am in this place. My parents were never religious until they were converted when I was really little. In my family it is fake it until you make it. My whole life I have crushed on girls. When girls in my class were fawning over boys I was confused. Now, my parents preach the evils of being gay. I made up fake crushes on random boys to please them.

"Hello class," our bible class teacher greeted.

"Hello Mrs. Bertha," the class responded in unison. We heard the screeching noise of the announcement system.

"It is time for you to rise for the pledge," the voice boomed. We all stood up and said the pledge in a slow and painful tone.

"Today we are going to go over why being homosexual is a sinful choice," Mrs. Bertha informed. Mrs. Bertha was an older lady that towered over you with her evil eye. She was obsessed with the bible and preaching against modern problems and how we were all inferior to the previous generation.

"Weren't we going to learn about Moses today?" I asked.

"Yeah, I could preach about the bible. I feel it is more important to go over a modern problem that attacks our beliefs. Unless you feel uncomfortable because you are feeling homosexual tendencies," she barked.

"Sorry, I was just curious. You are the teacher and I will not question you again," I replied as I bit my lip. The lecture went on how all people like me will burn in hell and she kept her eyes on me during the discussion. We got through the lecture and my parents picked me up. We started driving to Birchstone as I questioned if I was really bad.
