Moving On-Part 1
Life never comes the way you want. However firm your decisions and plans are, life has its own ways of turning things around as per its will. Every time you get through your plans smoothly ,thank your stars as life was kind to you. But when nothing works and your plan crashes just pat your heart gently, letting it know life has a planned a different course.
Quite , simple and reserved Ragini had been firm on never falling for a guy. Her plan was simple, she wanted to be something before her parents find her a suitable match. Growing up in a lower middle class family, Ragini knew the value money held in the society. Her parents were educated but honest people and honesty had no worth in society. One thing she learnt was that money meant respect in today's world and she wanted it for her parents. All her father taught her was to something in her life , he did all he could to provide her with the means. Ragini went to the best school available in the city. It was a convent more than 70 yrs old, anyone who was and had been associated with the institution took a lot of pride in calling themselves the alumni of the esteemed institution. Like all Ragini to was proud of it ,but studying in that institution had made her family cut down on many more things. She never had the chance to ride the extravagant cars, or eat at restaurants or small shops near her school , their lunch boxes would be filled with different delicacies , many she had never heard or tasted . Being a child sometimes , it pricked , but she knew want pains her parents were taking to give best education to their 2 daughters. She was glad that schools in the country still had uniforms , which made all look alike and equal irrespective of the social standing.
Though Ragini never complained, but by each passing day she just had one goal. To be successful, to earn and a lot. She wanted to give her parents all the comforts world could name. She always had been a focused hard working person and it got her results . She cleared her school with flying colours getting the admission in the best management institution, she cleared her bachelors as a gold medallist and send in her application for Masters degree to the best colleges across the country. Fate answered her prayers as she got into one of her dream institution.
Ragini looked around with awe as she entered the campus of a Pune based institution , it had always been a dream to study in one of the campus of the prestigious brand and today her dream had turned to a reality. Dragging her single suitcase She made her way through the crowd towards the hostel. She sighed as she looked at the chaos at the front desk . She could hear the shrill chattering of females who had clogged the front desk to get their room numbers and keys. Ragini being the reserved one decided to wait , after 2 hours finally it was her turn 'Ragini Shrivatsa room no. 401, 4th floor first room from the left' the lady at the reception recited the sentence like a mantra without even looking at Ragini . She picked her keys and dragged her luggage to the elevator.
''Hi there , I am Jaspreet and you must be Ragini''. Ragini was greeted with a cheerful voice as she stepped into her room. She smiled and nodded, Jaspreet looked cheerful and talkative , to Ragini's dismay she turned out to be over talkative. Ragini loved solitude and books and now life had thrown her with Jaspreet, a live wire.
Jaspreet could talk about anything and everything, she would start with some incident and end up on a cuisine. There were stories within the stories, all Ragini could do was nod her head and widen her eyes in shock. According to Ragini Jaspreet could write a series on her adventures. Though coming from a stinking rich family Jaspreet had zero attitude to her personality, she narrated how she fought and went on hunger strike to get her parents' consent for doing her masters. Slowly Ragini started loving Jaspreet's chatter, her day seemed incomplete without going through a round of words with Jaspreet.
It had been a month , the hostel was full except the last room on her floor. Like others it too had 2 members , but one had been missing. Her roommate Naina who was Ragini's classmate ,said that her roommate had come on the day of induction and had attended the fresher's party, but then left stating she would join later. When other girls started drawing views on her Ragini refused to make an opinion about the girl. Though, she wasn't aware that her ride to life's best lessons was about to begin. She didn't know that many of her walls would crumble and she would make a many more which would give birth to a new Ragini Shrivatsa
After finishing her classes, Ragini walked to her hostel . All she wanted to do was fall on the bed and go off to sleep. The week had been very tiring and had left her exhausted. She groaned annoyed when she saw 'Elevator under maintenance ' displaying on the board, gulping once she looked at the stairs. 4 floors ,the thought made her already tired feet tremble. Taking a deep breath Ragini stepped on the stairs dragging herself to her room, walking to the bed she fell flat on her tummy; ''Oh!! You look so tired. Let me get you sweet lime'' Jaspreet offered concerned
Ragini turned he head in Jaspreet's direction without moving an inch; ''The elevator is out, leave it. I will be fine'' Jaspreet smiled; ''Let it be! I have oodles of butter in my system I can run those stairs 30 times a day'' Ragini smiled, anyone in first look wouldn't believe that skinny Jaspreet was actually the biggest calorie consumer on the planet. She was a foodie and wouldn't mind cleaning her plate with her tongue . With all this Jaspreet was a girl with golden heart, she never expected anything in return of her affection and friendship. That made Ragini love her even more.
On a lazy Sunday ,Ragini stood in the lobby drying her long dark hair ; ''Beautiful Hair'' came a melodious voice, Ragini turned and came to face to face with a beautiful face which had never met before. The girl had a model like figure , her hair were short , almond shaped eyes and lips like petals . She had worn a cotton short with a vest . She looked like girls who were accepted in today's world; ''Hi I am Sapna, Naina's room mate and you must be Ragini the studious one'' Ragini just smiled , she was studious and most of the time some bullied her for being knowledgeable . She never reacted, they mocked her dresses her hairstyle and her ability to answer all the questions. It would be false if she said it didn't hurt because it did. The elite ones were in majority and they made her feel secluded. A day before their professor was not in mood of taking lecture , so for fun he took a bollywood quiz. Ragini could answer almost all , which irked the other elite team members. The professor wrote lyrics of an old song, it was a song about brother sister bond and asked the two teams to guess the movie, Ragini did . Professor applauded her , after a min came a sneered remark; 'Oh she would have answered this anyway, that's the only way she must have known a guy in her life. Miss bhenji ( unattractive one)'' There were few giggles but as usual Ragini didn't react . After reaching her room she had stood infront of mirror for good half an hour accessing herself, was she that ugly? The one who mocked her didn't knew that she could only mange 6 outfits for whole year, because her parents could either afford her education or expensive lifestyle. Though she had adjusted and made peace with it , but somewhere inside there was a young girl who still had small dreams hidden in her heart. That night she spend sobbing under her comforter
Spana snapped her fingers to bring Ragini back to present; ''where are you lost miss. I know you are in marketing section and I am in operations .''
''I know'' Ragini nodded and then excused herself to go to her room. Sapna watched her smiling, next two months Sapna broke the shard shell around Ragini and befriended Ragini .Ragini felt lucky to gain one more friend. its through Sapna Ragini met Vansh, unaware that her life was about to change because of just one guy.
