Final Chapter

All was silent and calm when we exited off the ship. When we got here, I expected this place to be crawling with Plexions. I mean it is, after all, their ship. But what I expected didn't seem to be the case. From what I could see, there wasn't any Plexions around. Kind of odd for it to be their ship. Maybe this is a trap. Either way, we must proceed forward. When we got outside, my nose was greeted by a horrible smell. A smell I recognize as death. It shouldn't surprise me that the Plexion's ship smells like this. Their virus, after all, can kill in only five minutes. Despite this, I still feel a sickening feeling in my stomach. Upon taking my first steps, I began to notice a thick fog of darkness all around us. This darkness is thick, so thick I can only see a few feet ahead of me. Suddenly, I heard a loud creaking sound. Instantly, my eyes dart around. They scan for any signs of life. Suddenly, I hear the same sound again. What is doing that?! Can there be someone running around in the dark? Someone watching us? No. If there was, we would have saw glowing bleeding green eyes by now. But I didn't see anything and neither did Tristan or Jessica. As we proceeded forward, I began to hear strange footsteps. My eyes darted in the direction of the sounds but I couldn't see anything. The darkness is too thick.

"Guys? Do we have any flashlights?" I whisper.

"No. The ship didn't come with them. Why put flashlights on board when as a Plexion you can see in the dark? The Plexions live in the darkness. It's what they do" Jessica said, her voice starting to grow tense. I nodded and proceed forward. When I did, I felt a hand grasp onto my shoulder. Immediately, I go to scream only for Tristan to close my mouth.

"Don't worry, it's me. We aren't alone in here" Tristan whispers into my ear. Yeah, I think those footsteps are a big indicator. When I went to scream, I heard a very distorted giggle. Man, Plexions are worse than I thought. They laugh at people's screams.

"Stay close to me Rain. We can't wonder off. Not when there's so many watching us." So many? Do Plexions have anything else to do besides watch us? Man, they some creepy people. Suddenly, a distorted voice greeted us.

"Welcome... we don't get many visitors here." Suddenly two hands snatched me. One hand covered my mouth, while the other took my arms. I thought they would be instantly burned by my powers. But I soon noticed those hands were gloved. How smart. Got to give them credit, Plexions catch on quicker than expected.

"Take them to His Majesty!" The distorted voice ordered. Instantly, I felt the two hands push me toward an elevator. When we get in there, I try to wiggle free but the hands clasped my arms tighter. Pain starts to erupt from my arms. Any tighter and they will cut off circulation. I guess I won't be able to escape this time. It didn't take long for us to arrive at our destination. The elevator doors opened and revealed to us a spacious and dimly lit throne room. On the floor before us was a red carpet with strange black symbols. If you look carefully, you see what look like barnacles inside those symbols. I wonder if this has anything to do with the virus. Probably. On each sides of the carpet are three pillars. As we pasted by them, I noticed strange barnacles on them. I wonder if they have virus on those pillars. Suddenly, we stop in front of the throne. The throne, strangely enough was just a green chair with cushions. I guess the Plexions were going more for a stylish room than a stylish throne. Suddenly, I feel a foot kick my knees hard. Instantly, my body goes down. As my body fell, the hands that grasped my arms let go. My body hits the carpet and I try to sit up. But before I could, a guy comes into the room. His bleeding green eyes stare daggers at Tristan and Jessica. But when his eyes look at me, they seem to soften. The guy approaches me. From afar, you could tell he's different from the others. His skin was not pure black like the others, instead it was a pale white. And his outfit was more regal than the others. When he approaches, a strange feeling came up to me. I've seen him somewhere. But I can't remember where. A very strange case of deja vu. The guy crouches down to my level. Suddenly, I feel his hand gently pull my face up to his. A smile slowly creeps across his face. When he smiled, I suddenly knew who he was. Mordecai! The Plexion king. Instantly, vile rushed up from my stomach into my throat.

"Rain Everest, Tristan Lykanth, and Jessica Burns. Good to see some of you again. Although, I had hoped that it would be just me and you discussing this Rain. Unfortunately my dear, I'll have to deal with your friends first. This conversation will only be between us. Guards take Tristan to his cell. After I'm done with business we will reinfect him. Jessica... hmm. What to do what to do... I know... take her to her cell. We will have her executed after business is completed." Instantly, I saw both Tristan and Jessica dragged away before my eyes. Instantly, my body got up but before I could go to them I felt a hard blow knock me down again. Pain seared my back like coal. I couldn't move. Not until after my hands were cuffed and I was on my knees again. But by then it was too late to do anything. Tristan... Jessica... please be okay.

"Leave us" Mordecai's distorted voice said. All the guards quickly filed out of here. Soon it was just me and Mordecai.

"Rain, your powers and beauty may be unmatched but your compassion and intellect still need more work."

"Don't hurt them!" I say, my voice breaking with anger. Mordecai again gently holds my face up to his. When he does that, I feel tears start to rain down from my eyes.

"Do not cry my dear. I won't hurt them, but I can make no guarantees on the virus's part. It is, after all, extremely painful to become one of us. Twenty four hours of intense pain, forty two for those who resist us. Dry your eyes my dear, I do not break my word. Shh shh..." Mordecai's gloved hand wipes my tears away. However, despite his words, anger still burns inside of me. Man, I wish I could hit him! I wish I could fight back. But I can't. So since I can't get out of here by fighting, then maybe I can use his words against him. He said he did not break his promises right?

"Well, if you don't break your word, then promise me you won't come back here. You wanted me to come here and here I am. You've got no reason to come back. You don't break your promises right?" I say, trying desperately to disguise my anger. Mordecai chuckles.

"It seems your intellect doesn't need work after all. I don't break my promises, unlike the others I have honor. However, making such an immense promise right now is... not worth the effort. Especially since I know I'll be forced to break that promise. It's a shame we are enemies. Had we not been in this situation I might have took you to dinner."

"And I would have said no in two seconds. You're not exactly dating material Mordecai. I've got standards." Immediately, Mordecai laughs.

"Just like a woman. Maybe you're not as special as I thought. But still, a woman of your caliber intrigues me. You're a rarity Rain. Not only do you have such astounding powers, but you also have beauty. Not only is it on the outside, but the inside as well. That type of beauty doesn't come around here that often." Immediately, I got the urge to slap him. However, while I would have loved to slap him, I can't. My arms are still bound. Mordecai's hand gently releases my face. Suddenly, our eyes meets. When I looked into them, I saw what I thought I would never see. Compassion, in his eyes was compassion. How could a Plexion be capable of such compassion? Is Mordecai as evil as I think he is? Suddenly, Mordecai takes off his gloves. I watch as his hands reach out and touch my face. When I felt his cold hands on my face, I expected Mordecai to be in pain. But he wasn't. When he touched my face, sparks erupted from his hands. However there wasn't any signs of pain. What's going on? Why isn't he experiencing pain? Maybe it's because he's different from the other Plexions. Maybe. After the sparks cleared up, I noticed a single tear drop from Mordecai's eyes. Immediately, Mordecai leans toward my ear. His cold breath sweeps through and freezes my ear. When he spoke, I noticed a sob ring out of his voice. Even though he's my enemy, it still tore me to pieces.

"Rain, promise me. Promise me that when the time comes, you'll do what's right. Promise me." I lean close to Mordecai's ear.

"I promise." When I said those words, my anger and disgust started to shatter. Instantly, sadness weighed down on my heart like bricks. Instead of wanting to slap Mordecai, I wanted to hug him. However, I couldn't. Mordecai whispers back to me. His words add even more weight to my already heavy heart.

"Thank you, Rain. You... you must be the one. The one to do what's right. Rain... I..." Mordecai's voice starts to trail off. He starts to back away from me. However, before he can stand up, I ask him a burning question.

"Mordecai... why don't you just let me heal you? Release me and I can heal you. Please!" Mordecai shakes his head. As he does, another tear comes down from his eyes.

"It's not the right time. Rain, please forgive me of what I've done and will do. Just know that my actions will make more sense at the proper time." Mordecai starts to leave. When he does, my heavy heart can no longer take the burden of sadness. Soon, a flood of tears start to come from my eyes. As Mordecai leaves, I see him press a switch. When he does, the handcuffs fall off. Immediately, I get up and rush to him.

"Mordecai!" I say as I try to catch up to him. However, just as I was a foot away, a door comes down from the ceiling. Instantly, it separates us. Desperately, I try to push all the switches. But nothing works. With Mordecai gone, my body sinks to the floor in sadness. Tears fly from my eyes to the ground. Mordecai... why... why can't you just let me heal you? Why not spare yourself the pain? As I sat there crying, my head continued to sink further and further into my knees. Tears started to soak my knees until I was sure I couldn't cry anymore. But yet tears continued to rain down from my eyes. Why? Why can't Mordecai just let me heal him? Why is doing this? Mordecai... Suddenly, I hear a voice call out to me.

"Rain!" Jessica? Slowly, I lift my head out of my knees. Jessica comes running up to me. Her expression one of worry.

"Rain, are you okay?! What happened? What did Mordecai do?" Jessica said as she lifted me to my feet. I didn't say anything. Instead, I hugged her. Jessica hugged me back. As we stood there hugging, I heard an alarm go off. Suddenly, Jessica let go me and and lead me back to the elevator. When got inside, I saw her push a button.

"Jessica, where are we heading?" I asked.

"We're going back to the ship. Thank goodness Tristan got to the computer and programmed it to go back to Corelia."

"Will he be meeting us at the ship?" I asked. Jessica nodded. It didn't take long for the elevator to get to our ship. When the doors opened, Jessica lead me back to our ship. As we got on, I saw Tristan get on too. Soon, we out of the Plexion ship. Just in time to see it leave Earth. However, I knew that the Plexions will be back. They always will be back.
