Chapter 5: The return
A/N: So, one thing I wanted to do here is introducing both Namaari's father and Raya's mother. I'll introduce Raya's mother in later chapters, don't worry, for now, I wanted to introduce Namaari's father. And yes, obviously this is Fanfiction and my created version of Namaari's father, but I think that although Fang was the catalyst of the Druun's reawakening, I think Namaari's father wanted peace just like Benja did too. Like Virana, Namaari's father cares deeply for Fang and its people, but he also craves the way Kumandra was when their people and the dragons lived in harmony. Anyway, I'm done rambling, here's my take on why Namaari's father was absent and what drove Fang to try and steal the Dragon Gem in the first place.
(Normal pov— Kumandra, Fang Nation, many years ago)
Chief Chien and his wife Virana were pulled from the grips of sleep by the sounds of horrified screams. Not only did the screams of their people disturb their slumber, but the roars of warriors and dragons told Fang's rulers that he had come.
Quickly getting out of bed, Chief Chien threw on a pair of white trousers as well as a white and gold-laced robe to cover his toned, strong body. The man had a comb-over hairstyle, the sides of his head were done in a low taper fade and he bore a simple mustache above his lips and short goatee on his chin. Once dressed, Chien turned to his wife who too had finished getting dressed.
"Virana, get Namaari, now."
Nodding, Virana left to fetch their daughter, meanwhile, Chien grabbed two swords resting beside his battle armor and raced to the throne room and found his guards already waiting to escort him and his family to safety. However, foreign warriors on top of dragons burst through the roof of the throne room, descending to the guards below and killing any of them who stood in their way.
Racing to the nearest enemy warrior, Chien slid on the marble floor and hacked one of the enemy's legs off before they could kill one of his guards. Soon enough, the enemy flyers and their Singetails surrounded Fang's leader, boxing him in.
"Chief Chien."
Looking up, Chien laid eyes on a man with dark, olive-toned skin, black hair, and a goatee. He's rather thin, but he has a muscular upper body. He was shrouded in a black cloak, he wore crimson chest plate, silver forearm braces, black pants with a belt buckle that held the insignia of Drago's Northern Alliance, and he wore black boots. He wielded an African battle-ax in his hand and pointed it at Chien. "He only wishes to speak with you—"
"Spare me, Krogan," Chien hissed out, "Drago marches into my home in the dead of night, dragging my people on their knees and holds a blade to Fang's throat. He—"
Viscous explosions rippled throughout the kingdom of Fang, causing the very ground to tremble and quake. The inhabitants of this kingdom were fleeing for their lives as armored dragons descended upon them, burning their homes and establishments to the ground. Foreign warriors rampaged through the streets, dragging the citizens of Fang out onto the streets. A thunderous roar caused Fang's people to cry out and cover their ears, they looked to their city gates and gasped in both awe and horror at the sight of a dragon the size of a mountain looming over them, like a shadow of death that was ready to end all of their lives.
The roars of a man quickly caused the titanic dragon to almost... kneel in submission. Its hardened demeanor vanished and was replaced with fear. The massive shackles around this dragons tusks represented that although this monster had the freedom to destroy and kill, it was nothing more than a slave to one who wishes to enslave all of the dragons and force mankind to either bow before him or be wiped from history.
Drago Bludvist and his warlords carelessly strolled through the streets of Fang's kingdom, its warriors and people were on their knees after being overwhelmed by both the Northern Alliances' warriors and its dragon army. Now, the leaders of this army approached the steps of the palace, where Chief Chien would most likely be.
The palace guards were incapacitated and held at sword length by Drago's Chosen, the elite of the Northern Alliance, so resistance towards the four advancing warlords was little to none.
Upon entering the throne room, Chien and his wife Virana and their daughter Namaari were held by Krogan and a handful of his dragon flyers. As Drago and his warlords approached, Krogan and his men quickly bowed to Drago, acknowledging their leader. Urging his second in command to rise, Drago then looked to Chief Chien and his family with a predatory glare.
"You have been forced to your knees, your people's lives are in my hands, and your history in Kumandra could end if I give the command to my followers to destroy every piece of your culture," Drago stated. "Yet, I purpose an ultimatum, should you wish to see your people and your family live to see another day."
"What do you want, Drago?" Chien demanded.
Looking to his wife and daughter, Drago raised his bull-hook and pointed it at Virana and Namaari's faces, causing both of them to whimper lightly in fear and Chien tensed at the sight, his heart beating faster.
"You received an invitation from Heart Nation's leader, Chief Benja, just like the rest of the nations of Kumandra?" Chien nodded in confirmation. "Good. Your wife and daughter will represent Fang Nation and play the role of friendship with Heart Nation, get Benja's people to lower their guard and take the Dragon Gem of Sisudatu." Drago demanded with a stern glare etched on his face.
Chien knew that peace with the rest of the lands of Kumandra was possible, he believed that despite the nonbelievers residing in his kingdom. He and Benja were close friends and had the dream to bring the people of Kumandra together once more, as they should have done when Sisudatu sacrificed herself to expel the Druun from their world.
He was given a choice; surrender his kingdom to a madman and allow him to place a yoke of fear and oppression on Fang's people, or stand up in what he and Benja believed in, that they could truly be Kumandra once more.
"No."
"Chien—"
"No, Virana," Fang's leader turned to his wife, "I cannot do this, I will not do this." Turning to Drago, Chien looked into the madman's eyes with fear. "Do what you must, but I will not betray my friend nor will I steal from him." Drago's eyes were devoid of emotion, as was his face as Chien gave his answer.
"Unfortunate, perhaps my negotiations will transpire with your wife."
Drago then thrust his bull-hook right into Chien's mouth, causing the man to cry out in both surprise and agony. Namaari, who was eight winters old screamed in horror, Virana too cried out in horror, but she quickly held Namaari close and shielded her eyes from the grotesque scene. With a snarl, Drago ripped his bull-hook out of Chien's mouth and watched the now late chief of Fang fell back, dead. Blood pooling around his head and was slick upon the madman's bull-hook. Looking up at Drago with tears streaming down their eyes, both Virana and Namaari held their breath as the madman lifted his bloodied bull-hook at their faces.
"Do you wish to join your husband in death, Chief Virana? Or will you submit and accept my ultimatum?" Drago inquired. "My patience is thin, don't make me wait."
It didn't take Virana long to choose, after she had just witnessed her husband being ruthlessly murdered, she chose the survival of her people, daughter, and Fang itself from being killed.
"I... I accept your proposal, Drago Bludvist," Virana said loud enough for the madman to hear. "Fang and its people are at your disposal."
"Wise decision," Drago said as he removed his bull-hook away from Virana's and Namaari's tear-stained faces. "Prepare yourself, when the time comes for you and the rest of the nations to gather at Heart, you will take the Dragon Gem and deliver it to my spies. Do not take them likely, a command from them is as a command from me. If you do anything that will foil my ambitions in this land, know that when I return from the Viking lands of Scandinavia, I will sail my armada to your kingdom once more and I will raze it to the ground and kill last every man, woman, and child."
Holding a whimpering Namaari close to her chest, Virana exhaled shakily at Drago's promise of destruction and genocide should she move against him in any way.
"I understand," Virana cradled her frightened daughter close and looked up to Drago, "I'll do what you wish."
Grunting in satisfaction, Drago turned to his warlords. "Order the men to stand down and return to the ships, we sail to Scandinavia immediately," the three warlords bowed their heads and left the palace. The madman then turned to his second in command. "The voyage ahead of us will be long and tiring. But when we arrive in Scandinavia, you are to find me another King of Dragons, an egg would be preferable. You have already failed me once Krogan, do not fail me a second time."
"Rest assured Drago, I will not fail you," Krogan reassured the madman while bowing before him. "My flyers and I will seek out Dragon Hunter and Trapper clans that may aid us in bringing you the second King of Dragons." Rising to his feet, Krogan turned to his crimson Singetail and mounted it, he then urged the flyers under his command to follow him.
Now alone with Fang's new chief and princess, Drago sighed heavily and watched as Virana cooed reassurances to the young Namaari. The madman recalled a time when his mother held him in such a manner, but he quickly expelled those thoughts from his mind, his kin and home were long because of dragons. Now that he had risen above the fear of dragons, he would continue to conquer them and make them fear him, as he has done for decades.
Drago turned and left Fang's rulers, his dragon scale cloak billowing in his stride, leaving Virana and Namaari to momentarily drown in sorrow at the loss of Chien. Both of Fang's rulers knew what they needed to do, if they wanted their people to thrive and endure, they would have to abide by Drago's rules and not move against him.
No matter how much they didn't want to, they had a duty to Fang and its people. They would act in the interest of their people.
(Present-day— The Conqueror, Drago Bludvist's warship)
Finally, after a four-month-long voyage at sea, the Northern Alliance had finally returned to Kumandra. They were no strangers to this land, the infamy and reputation of the Northern Alliance stretched far and wide, thanks to Drago Bludvist. But now they had returned to the divided land of Kumandra to retrieve the Dragon Gem and restore the dragons back and then make them part of their dragon army, as well as bringing Fang into their ranks.
Ragnar the Rock, Chagatai Khan, and Griselda the Grievous made their way to their masters' quarters, he had summoned them along with his Chosen, the fiercest and most skilled warriors in the Northern Alliance. The reason for Drago summoning his warlords, generals, and Chosen was not yet clear, but the high-ranking warriors dared not take the reason for Drago summoning them lightly. They all knew that their master was not to be trifled with, and whenever you were summoned by Drago Bludvist, you answer his call or you will see your life forfeit. Upon entering Drago's quarters, the three warlords laid eyes on their master and the generals of the army going over maps and charts of Southeast Asia, as well as the lands of Kumandra. Looking up from the charts, Drago urged his warlords to approach. The three warlords approached and crossed their arms behind their backs, awaiting their masters' instructions.
"With the Vikings now wiped off the face of the world and Scandinavia's dragons now under our control, we will now return to Kumandra," the madman then huffed out. "My spies embedded among the lands of Tail, Talon, Spine, Fang, and Heart have informed me that these five nations of Southeast Asia are being infested by an entity known as the Druun. This entity has conjured up ways to spread its influence throughout Kumandra."
"How did this come to be?" Chagatai inquired.
"According to my spies, they say the Druun came into this world because the people of Kumandra fought over the Dragon Gem of Sisudatu, the same gem I instructed Chief Virana to acquire for me," Drago growled in annoyance. "Because the gem was broken, it is now in five lands of Kumandra."
"Do these monsters bleed?" Griselda inquired with a stern face.
"And do they have any weaknesses in case we cannot kill them?" Ragnar chimed in.
Drago turned to Griselda first. "According to the reports my spies sent back, the Druun has created an army of stone warriors that can turn anyone who stands in their way, simply by touching them. No, they cannot bleed because no normal weapon can destroy them," the madman then turned to Ragnar. "Water seems to keep the Druun away, so to protect our assets and resources, we cannot establish a fortress in the center of the land. We must establish a fortress besides water."
"Very well, aside from recruiting Fang's army and merging their numbers with our own, what else is it that we're here for?" Chagatai asked both cautiously and respectfully. The other two warlords looked to Drago and awaited his answer.
"Power," Drago answered with a sinister smile. "The current state of Kumandra's being presents numerous opportunities. Either we restore the dragon gem of Sisudatu that will destroy the Druun and bring all of Kumandra's dragons back. Or, I find a way to commune with the entity and try to show it that we're unlike the rest of the weak fools of that land. We seek world domination, just like they do. I will attempt and comune with this entity and broach an alliance. Either way, we finish what we started in these lands. Signal our fleet, prepare the men for the journey ahead." The warlords, generals, and Chosen all bowed their heads and left their masters' quarters.
Looking to the map of Kumandra and all of Southeastern Asia, Drago grunted to himself. He would give the people of this land a choice to join him in ruling the world or be wiped from history, just like he did to the Viking people.
"This world and its dragons will be mine," he placed a hand on his map and nodded to himself. "It will all be mine!"
A/N: Don't worry, the next chapter will center around Hiccup again. He's going to get caught and barely escape the jaws of death. Stay tuned for more.
