Chapter 33: Margo, the Beast of Carthage
A/N: I'm looking forward to writing these next few chapters, they're gonna be action-packed and emotional, hope you're ready for the end! So Hiccup, Raya, Namaari, and the Kumandran coalition are gunning for those in Drago's army that is trying to ascend to the title of Warlord within the Northern Alliance hierarchy. War has begun, and we're nearing the end here people, hope you're ready for these final chapters!
(Normal pov— Heart Nation)
Drago had a pleased grin on his face as he looked up to the heavens and saw the tens of thousands of dragons that had been stolen from him by Hiccup Haddock were now being returned to him and the Northern Alliance, Mkali and her Dragon Flyers did well in rounding up the dragons of Scandinavia but also the dragons of Kumandra, they would all serve his purposes in the war to come and in completing the world-dominating conquest that remained. As his servants descended on the deck of his flagship, Mkali slid off of her Singetail and approached Drago, the madman gave his servant a pleasing look.
"Mkali, you and your flyers have done well."
Bowing her head in thanks, she then gestured to Sisu and her siblings that were still wrapped in razor netting. "We not only captured Sisudatu and her siblings, who all the dragons follow as quintuple rulers," she then reached for the satchel around her armor-clad torso and pulled out the Bewilderbeast spawn. "You not only have five, powerful dragons to keep the dragons in line and follow your commands, but when the time comes, you'll once again have the King of Dragons under your thumb."
Taking the Bewilderbeast spawn from Mkali, Drago inspected the egg for damages or signs that the future King of Dragons might hatch soon. Grunting to himself when he saw no signs of damage on the egg, Drago grinned. "Good, see to it that you and your flyers receive rest, wine, and food. You and Askari will lead the Dragon Flyers against our enemies soon," Drago turned to one of his deckhands that approached. The deckhand whispered in his ear until the war master gave him a dismissive wave. "Aten too has returned, bearing a gift for me."
Aten boarded The Conqueror with a head in hand, he presented the blanched head of Spine Nation's chieftain. "Lord Bludvist, the head of Spine's chieftain," he then shrugged. "It is unclear whether or not Spine will retaliate for this, but undoubtedly, Chief Benja will be the voice of reason and ensure that Spine's rage-inducing warriors are kept in line."
"No matter, Aten," Drago said dismissively. "With the dragons back in our possession, we will see to it that our enemies and their world are reduced to ash and dust. I have already sent out those worthy of taking up Ragnar, Griselda, and Chagatai's place as warlords to sow chaos and death across Kumandra," Turning to Sisu and her siblings, Drago then gave the five dragons a malicious smirk. "I will force these dragons to submit to me and ensure that they relay my desires to the other dragons; with these five ruling together as a hive mind, the dragons will not resist and do what I command them to do."
Askari and his flyers approached Drago, their armored Singetails in tow like well-heeled dogs. Giving a pleased grunt, the war master approached the leader of the Dragon Flyers and gave him a firm look. "Go to the Kumandran coalition's war camp, deliver a message to Hiccup Haddock, tell him if he wants to avenge those we have killed back in Scandinavia, he must face me on my terms," he continued. "Do so alone, if you return alive, you and Mkali will marshal the Dragon Flyers and prepare them for the war ahead of us. If you do not return, then I know where Hiccup Haddock's mind is. Now go." Bowing his head, Askari placed his mask over his head and mounted his Singetail, and then took to the sky.
"There is one matter of concern, Lord Bludvist." Aten's words caused Drago to face him and give the Egyptian snake charmer his full attention. "Bayana, he had accompanied us during our last task, and yet he has not returned."
Giving Aten a dismissive wave, Drago approached the subdued Sisudatu and her siblings. "If Bayana fell to ensure the success of your task, then he died a warrior's death, an honor not many men in this world are granted," he then turned to one of his guards and handed them the Bewilderbeast spawn, while giving them orders to place the egg within his chambers. Turning back to the subdued dragons on the deck of his ship, Drago smirked. "You're all dismissed, I will summon you again when I require you." Aten, Mkali, and the Dragon Flyers all bowed their heads and left their master to deal with Sisu and her siblings.
"So, you're Drago Bludvist?" Sisu inquired while eyeing the war master from head to toe. When the madman grunted in confirmation, she then bore her teeth. "If you value your life, you will release me, my siblings, and all the dragons—"
Drago laughed before giving Sisu a firm glare. "You are in no position to make demands, Sisudatu," gesturing to her wrapped in razor netting, Drago then extended his right hand, and one of his men brought him his bullhook. With his signature weapon in hand, Drago then gave the order for his men to remove the netting off of Sisu and her siblings. Now free, the five dragons glared at Drago and were ready to attack him, but they ceased hostility when they noted warriors with bows and blowdarts aimed at them. "You would be wise to heed my commands and not to provoke me, otherwise, it is not you that will suffer, but the dragons that follow you."
"If you kill the dragons, you won't have a dragon army to wield against mankind and the world," Pengu growled out, calling Drago's bluff. "Instead, you'll have only us and the Bewilderbeast. Not exactly an army."
Nodding, Drago then remarked. "I don't need to kill the dragons, but if you defy me, I will see to it that they're deprived of what they need to live: food, water, and rest. I will work them until they drop, unless, of course, you heed my commands, then I will see to it that the dragons are rewarded with the necessities they need to live," shrugging, Drago then rested his bullhook against his broad shoulder. "Either way, this world will be mine for the taking, with or without your help. I have toppled empires, erased entire cultures, and have subjugated powerful dragons to serve my purpose all so that I will conquer this world as the undisputed Dragon-God! Serve me, and the dragons will thrive for generations to come."
"Well, you're not giving us much of a choice, are you?"
Smirking at Sisu's words, Drago watched as the water dragon then bowed her head in submission. Turning to the four remaining dragons, Drago gestured to their sister. "It appears the youngest out of all of you is also the wisest, she understands that defying me is futile and to put me to the test will result in many of your fellow dragons to suffer," his smirk was then replaced with a glare that was cold as ice. "Bow before me, or don't, then you will see that I don't make idle threats."
As protesters of both man and dragons, Pengu turned to his younger siblings and knew that if they refused to bow to Drago, he would make their fellow dragons suffer for their defiance. They would play along for now, and when the time was right, they would rally the dragons to rise and destroy Drago's army, destroy his war machines, and sink his armada to the bottom of the sea. For now, they would do what Drago wanted, they bowed their heads in submission.
Giving a pleased grunt, Drago then gave orders to his men that had been forging armor for the dragons to place it on the tens of thousands of dragons in his war camp, making them the property of the Northern Alliance once again. As those men had every available man to help with placing the armor on the dragons, Sisu and her siblings looked up at Drago, he had a cruel smile on his face as he looked at them all.
"You belong to me now."
Hiccup pounded away at his latest project in the forge he had built, he had provided the Kumandran armies with weapons and equipment made out of Gronckle Iron in the short time that they had with the dragons by their side, and the combined armies were impressed at the lighter, yet more potent weapons they had been provided with by their Viking companion. But now that the dragons had been taken by Drago's minions, Hiccup was glad he was able to get another batch of Gronckle Iron so that he could finish his latest weapon— Valkyrie's Fury. A battle-axe that would ignite on fire by turning the handle of the axe. Hiccup had also stored Monstrous Nightmare gel within the axe, and with the flip of a switch, he could disperse fire to anyone who dared to stand in his way.
In truth, this weapon would've been Astrid's wedding gift, he had already begun working on it before losing his loved ones and his world to Drago and the Northern Alliance. Now, he would wield this weapon in the battle against his enemies and see to it that they all burn. He recalled everything about wielding an axe from the times he and Astrid would spend sparring together, his skills with an axe may have been good, but Astrid's prowess with the weapon eclipsed his own and everyone on Berk.
With his new weapon complete, Hiccup had concerns about the upcoming war. At the moment, his biggest concern was Lahn Wei's friend, Bayana, who was a Hand of Drago. Though this Hand claimed he had severed his allegiance to Drago and the Northern Alliance, Hiccup doubted that Bayana's intentions to help the Kumandran coalition were pure. This was most likely a ruse for the Kumandran leaders to lower their guard, one of their chieftains had already been assassinated, and the likelihood that more of Kumandra's leaders would be assassinated and killed was high, especially if one of Drago's men was embedded among Kumandra's ranks while claiming he has renounced his allegiance to the madman.
If he were asked what his thoughts were about having Bayana in Kumandra's ranks, Hiccup would advise they would imprison Bayana until he had proven himself worthy of trust. But then again, Bayana had provided all his knowledge on Drago's plans for eradicating Kumandra to Benja, Namaari, Dang Hai, and Tong, who had been elected as Spine Nation's new chieftain. Hiccup recalled the benefits of having an accomplice at his disposal by his long-dead enemy turned acquaintance, Viggo Grimborn.
"The Accomplice. One of the most important pieces in all of Maces and Talons, allowing a player to use an opponent's piece for their own ends. You can certainly win without it, but with it, you can attain total victory."
Hiccup was not blind to the risks that Bayana could still be loyal to Drago and his words of distaste and hatred towards the war master were nothing more than a means of lowering the Kumandran coalition's guard. But many in the coalition encouraged Hiccup to trust their judgment and trust them, even though he didn't trust Bayana.
Finally, after much labor, Hiccup added the finishing touches to the weapon and cooled the smoldering axe head in a barrel of water. He stepped back as it hissed loudly, steam rising from the barrel like an angry cloud. When the weapon had cooled, Hiccup inspected it for imperfections or weaknesses, he then hummed to himself, pleased with his work. After the axe had ample time to cool, Hiccup then gripped the weapon with two hands, he then turned the handle and it ignited. The flames roared and embers rose from the flames, the Monstrous Nightmare gel within the axe sloshed quietly, it reminded Hiccup of a Scauldron that had a mouthful of water and was ready to release it at anyone or anything that threatened its existence.
Valkyrie's Fury would be a weapon that Hiccup would wield in memory of Astrid, his father, his mother, and everyone else he held close to his heart. The fire and fury of every son and daughter of Scandinavia burned within this weapon, and he would see the Northern Alliance burn for their atrocity against his people.
Suddenly, the war horns were sounded, Hiccup looked to the sky and saw the familiar silhouette of a Singetail approaching fast. Igniting his newly forged axe, Hiccup noticed the flyer on the Singetail's back. "Askari," the Viking snarled out. He then turned around to see Kumandra's leaders and its warriors were by his side, with weapons in their hands. Turning back to Askari, Hiccup narrowed his eyes at the flyer. "I should tear your heart out of your chest, especially after the atrocities you and your men inflicted on Raya."
Askari slid off his Singetail and approached Hiccup nonchalantly, ignoring the Viking's threat and the Kumandran warriors who had bows fixed on him were he to act aggressively. The head of the Dragon Flyers looked to Raya, who pushed past crowds of her fellow Kumandrans to stand beside Hiccup, the princess gave him a murderous glare, causing Askari to smirk, he and his men had left their mark on her, and he would do it again without pity or mercy.
"What do you want, Askari?" Namaari spoke through gritted teeth, she had her two blades in hand and wanted nothing more than to run him through.
Crossing his arms across his chest, Askari smirked at Namaari. "It's not what I want, but what Drago wants," he then reached for something attached to the small of his back, but when the Kumandran archers were ready to fill him full of arrows, they then lowered their bows slightly when Askari pulled out a map, not a weapon. Tossing the map to Hiccup, Askari then continued. "Drago wishes to put an end to this farce once and for all. He offers you the chance to shine in one on one combat and see whether or not you can avenge your dead friends."
Taking a look at the map, Hiccup looked it over and then handed it over to Raya. After looking over the map herself, the princess looked up at Askari. "Do you honestly think Hiccup is that foolish? Your master obviously wants to isolate Hiccup in a remote section of Heart where he'll have nowhere to run if this is a trap, which in fact it is," she then drew her whip blade and pointed it at the flyer. "I think it's time that you leave before I remove your head from your shoulders."
"No."
Turning to Hiccup, Raya watched in confusion as the Viking approached Askari. "Drago knows that I'm eager to take his life, but I'm not that eager to run headlong into a trap," lifting Valkyrie's Fury to the flyer, Hiccup spoke firmly. "Be the good, well-heeled dog that you are, return to Drago and tell him that if he wants to fight me, we'll do so on the battlefield. I will not be baited by him and fall into his trap."
Nodding, Askari then mounted his Singetail and looked at Hiccup while scoffing. "You have no chance against Drago in single combat. You do know that, right?"
"That remains to be seen," Hiccup remarked before extinguishing his axe. "Those who underestimated me were either once former enemies turned acquaintances, allies, or they're now dead. Drago would be a fool to take me lightly, but then again, let him. That delusional animal believes himself to be god. Well, I'll show him and all of Kumandra that he's nothing but a man when I rip his heart out of his chest." Hiccup strapped the axe behind his back and gave him a dismissive wave and cruel jab. "Go on, be a good dog, and tell Drago what I've told you."
Sneering at Hiccup's words, Askari then urged his Singetail to take off, leaving a gust of wind to whip Hiccup and those within range across their faces.
"Was it wise letting him go, my friend?" Tong inquired. He then continued. "Without Askari, Drago's Dragon Flyers would be leaderless."
Nodding in agreement, Hiccup remarked. "True. However, I have a plan to deal with Askari and the Dragon Flyers, a plan which I'll disclose with you all in time," he was looking up at the sky and saw the fading silhouette of Askari and his Singetail. "Everyone who follows Drago Bludvist will die. Everyone. I won't let them rape, pillage, and destroy Kumandra as they did to Scandinavia and all the other lands that followed."
"Chief Benja!"
The armies of Kumandra made way as Heart Nation warriors approached on horseback, one of the riders dismounted their horse and approached Benja, breathless. "Kapatagan ng Buhay, it's under attack by Drago's forces!" This news caused Heart's warriors to murmur amongst themselves in distress. Kapatagan ng Buhay, the Plains of Life, was Heart Nation's largest, richest farming village and it's where the citizens of Heart go to collect their reserves of grain, livestock, and provisions. Because of its value, there was a garrison of warriors stationed there to protect the villagers and farmers from bandits or anyone who would seek to exploit the village of all the provisions stored there.
Now, this strategic and critical farming village was under threat by the Northern Alliance.
"How many enemy warriors lay siege to our farming village?"
"A great many, Chief Benja. Their leader is called Margo, the Beast of Carthage," the rider then exhaled. "He and his charioteers along with the warriors under his command are not only taking Heart Nation's food stores, but they're slaughtering the farmers and villagers without compassion or mercy."
Heart's warriors began to exclaim in outrage and distress, it was no secret that Drago wanted to eradicate everyone in Kumandra, but if his warriors were allowed to slaughter the villagers and farmers of Kapatagan ng Buhay, Heart Nation would starve in less than a year.
Raya didn't even wait for her father's words, she summoned Tuk Tuk and turned to Hiccup. "Come on!" Hiccup was already in his armor and he was armed, he then joined Raya as she mounted Tuk Tuk. Before Benja could object to his daughter's actions, Raya spoke up. "If Drago's men take our food stores, our whole nation will starve, we can't allow our enemies to gain the advantage of nutrition." Looking to Heart Nation's army, Raya boomed out. "Those among you that wish to join me, come!"
Many rallied to Raya's side in eagerness, ten thousand men and women in total, while the remaining ten thousand of Heart's army stayed to ensure that Heart's leader and those who dwelled within the royal city remained safe.
Namaari stepped forward, approached her lover, and looked up at her. "I would not be from your side, Dep La," she then raised an eyebrow in question. "How can Fang Nation help you and the brave warriors fighting by your side?"
Smirking, Raya gestured with her head. "Follow me, if you can," turning to the warriors that wished to follow her into battle, Raya boomed out. "Mount up! We ride for the Plains of Life!"
The Plains of Life was located between a ravine of two large mountains, the ravine was narrow, but not narrow enough to prevent those who wished to pass through it and enter the farming village, it served as a natural gateway, of course, there were sentries stationed to ensure bandits or those with hostility wouldn't steal the food stores from the people of Heart Nation. Beyond the ravine, there was a vast, rich plain that held profuse soil, a multitude of ponds to help with growing crops and provide the livestock with water, and handfuls of small villages throughout the vast, open land. In the center of the Plains of Life was a small, yet well-defended city that held a garrison of warriors to ensure this location was well defended, it held the supplies and livestock for the farmers to purchase to farm, and most importantly, this city held the storehouses for all of Heart Nation's food.
Unfortunately, the warriors stationed here were unprepared nor did they anticipate the attack that Drago's men would enact.
Blood-curdling screams echoed throughout the Plains of Life as Carthaginian warriors ransacked the homes of the villagers and farmers of the land, they even sacked the city with little to no effort, thanks to their advantage of numbers and experience in laying sieges to cities far grander and more mighty. The warriors stationed here fought Drago's forces valiantly, but in the end, they were outmatched and slain. With the warriors all dead, there was no one left to defend the people and the food storehouses, leaving them all at the mercy of Drago's forces. If the villagers and farmers weren't dragged out of their homes, they were locked inside and were forced to suffer an agonizing death by being burned alive. Those that were dragged out of their homes were then forced on their knees and then cut down by Carthaginian steel, the blood of Kumandra's farmers soaked the earth while the fruits of their labor were being taken by the leader of the new leader of the Carthaginian forces— Margo, the Beast of Carthage.
Margo was one of the greatest warriors in Drago's army, he was a seven-foot-tall giant, he was well-built thanks to his years of training, fighting, and wrangling with dragons across the world. He bore dark olive skin, brown eyes that blazed like coals in the sun, and he had curly black hair along with a mustache above his lips and a neatly trimmed goatee. He wore white armor that was flushed with his muscular body, he wore gilded forearm braces and leg guards along with dark brown sandals. He also had a cheetah fur cloak draped around his broad shoulders and he cradled a gilded helmet with a fin of white and black brushes. His weapon of choice was a spear, but he was also deadly with a sword, he was also known for savagely beating his opponent's faces in with his gilded shield until there was nothing left but bone, brains, and gore.
"Margo!" The man looked to see one of his men approaching. "We've procured everything that we can carry, but we did not anticipate the grand scale of Kapatagan ng Buhay's storehouses. We will never be able to take all of these provisions back to Drago—"
"I don't want excuses!" Margo boomed out, causing the warrior to flinch at his tone. "We will take every scrap of food this place has to offer so that the Northern Alliance is well fed and remain strong. Failure is unacceptable." He then narrowed his eyes at the warrior before him and then gave them a dismissive wave. "Go! Help the others!" The warrior scampered off, leaving Margo to supervise his troops. Some time had passed, and Margo's forces had taken everything of value, they loaded all of the food and livestock in separate wagons and carriages. Pleased that his men had taken everything that once belonged to Heart, Margo sounded the horn to withdraw and return to friendly lines and deliver this food to the Northern Alliance.
Just as Margo and his Carthaginian horde could withdraw, however, there was a distant thundering that could be heard. Margo, who was in his chariot, looked towards the ravine and could see a large force advancing quickly towards the village. That force then spread out, revealing Fang Nation Serlot riders.
"To arms! We're under attack!" Margo boomed out, he then patted his chariot driver to advance, his chariot's archer took position by the driver and nocked an arrow. "Charioteers, advance!" Reaching for a set of spears kept in a compartment on the side of his chariot, Margo readied himself to hurl one of his spears as his chariot led the charge. The Carthaginian foot soldiers prepared a line of defense by raising their shields and with spears in hand, ready to thrust the shafts out when the Fang riders drew close.
Namaari led the charge, she patted her newly bonded Serlot's neck, Matulin, meaning swift. "Alright girl, give me everything you've got!" The young chief of Fang Nation then barked out to the thousands of her warriors that were on the back of their Serlot mounds, and each rider had an auxiliary with bows in hand and a quiver full of arrows.
"Archers, draw!" Each of the archers drew arrows from their quivers. "Nock!" Upon nocking their arrows on the bows' drawstrings, they took aim and awaited their chieftain's command. "Loose!" Each archer let their arrows fly, and soon enough, volley after volley of arrow fire rose to the heavens, the sun was momentarily blotted out due to the number of arrows let loose by the Fang archers. The sharpened steel then came raining down on the Carthaginian warriors and charioteers, killing a great many of them.
"Archers, draw!" Again, the auxiliary riders drew arrows from their quivers. "Nock!" Again, they nocked their arrows and took aim. "Loose!" Once again the sun was blotted out as Fang arrows rained down on Carthaginian warriors and charioteers. With each volley of arrows coming down on the men under Drago's command, the more their numbers dwindled. However, the Carthaginian charioteers had their chariot wheels equipped with blades, not only that, but they had archers with precise, deadly aim accompanying the chariot drivers as well.
Margo, who had his shield raised to protect himself from Fang's arrows then turned to his chariot's archer and the hundreds of chariots following him. "Archers, aim!" The Carthaginian archers nocked their arrows and took aim, awaiting Margo's command. "Loose!" Carthaginian steel ascended before descending on Fang's Serlot riders. Many arrows struck down either the riders, forcing the auxiliary riders to take over and steer the Serlot away from as many arrows as possible or the Serlots themselves were hit with arrows, causing the large cats to roar out in agony and tumble head first into the ground, hurling the riders off their backs and they were either accidentally trampled by their companions or killed off by Carthaginian arrows.
As each mobile force drew ever closer, Namaari drew one of her blades and narrowed her eyes at Margo as he readied to hurl a spear at her. When they were close enough, the Beast of Carthage hurled his spear at Namaari, she ducked underneath the shaft, but the spear struck her auxiliary rider instead, knocking them off of Matulin. Bearing her fangs, Namaari urged her Serlot to pounce over Margo's chariot. The young chief then decapitated the driver of his chariot, forcing Margo to quickly discard his headless driver and take the reigns.
As each Carthaginian chariot passes by a Fang Serlot rider, they were either cut down due to the long, sharp blades protruding from the wheels or they were struck down by enemy archers or spearmen in the passing chariots. And as each Fang rider passed the Carthaginian charioteers, they were either killed by the Serlot who pounced high in the air and sunk their fangs into the chariot drivers' throats or they were shot down by Fang archers, causing the chariots to veer out of control and crash, hurling the archers or spearmen up into the air and were then trampled to death when they crashed down on the ground.
Namaari was able to evade the enemy chariots and their blade wheels, the young chief and those who managed to evade the chariots rallied to her and charged the Carthaginian foot soldiers. These foot soldiers stood firm and jutted their spears, however, they were unprepared for the Fang riders to carry handheld explosives. Namaari hurled her explosive first, and upon impact with the enemy's line of defense, a breach had been made. The Fang riders followed Namaari's example by quickly lighting the fuses to their explosives and then hurling them at the enemy lines, sending Carthaginian warriors flying in all directions while being burned alive.
While the Carthaginian forces were still occupied with Namaari's forces, they were suddenly getting picked off by arrow fire from their rear flanks. Turning around, the Carthaginian forces were caught off guard by Heart Nation cavalry advancing on them. Leading them was Princess Raya, who was perched on her furry, pillbug companion and with Hiccup Haddock seated behind her with his Gronckle Iron shield in hand.
"Charge!" Raya boomed out. "Kill them all! Every last one!"
As Heart Nation's cavalry began cutting down the Carthaginian's disorganized lines, Raya steered Tuk Tuk towards the enemy charioteers that were causing Fang's Serlot riders trouble. Hiccup used his shield to block incoming arrows heading towards him and Raya, he even returned fire by activating his shield's crossbow feature and loading bolts and hitting enemy archers, warriors, and chariot drivers which caused them to veer off course and crash into their ranks.
After dodging an incoming arrow and then quickly retracting the crossbow feature so that he could raise his shield to stop a spear from striking Raya's side, Hiccup looked to see an imposing enemy combatant with a spear in hand while on a chariot. "Raya!" The princess turned her head and Hiccup pointed to the enemy combatant. "Is that the man leading this siege on the Plains of Life?"
Following the direction to where Hiccup was pointing, Raya barked out in confirmation over the chaos of battle. "Yes! That's Margo, the Beast of Carthage. I was able to identify each aspiring warrior that would soon rise as Drago's new warlords while I was in captivity," turning her attention back to the battle, Raya sneered. "Once we eliminate each of these ambitious warriors, Drago's army will be weakened further, leaving only him to command the multitude of various warriors in his army."
"I'll take care of him," Hiccup patted Raya's shoulder. "And you? Try not to get yourself killed."
Before Raya could object, Hiccup leaped off of Tuk Tuk and kicked an enemy horse rider off of their horse before settling in the saddle and steering the horse around, causing it to neigh loudly. Reaching behind his back, Hiccup drew Valkyrie's Fury and urged the horse forward as he set eyes on Margo. Two enemy chariots advanced toward Hiccup, one of the chariots held an archer and another held a spearman. As the enemy archer let their arrow fly, Hiccup ducked underneath the arrow and then used his axe to decapitate the archer. With a battle cry, Hiccup turned towards the enemy spearman and slashed their chest open, a geyser of blood flung up into the air and spattered along Hiccup's skin.
As Hiccup neared Margo's chariot, he ignited his axe and prepared to set the chariot ablaze. Margo, however, saw the Viking and had his archer take the reigns while he grabbed another spear. With each second, the two combatants drew closer, until Margo hurled his spear at the horse Hiccup was riding. The spear struck the horse in the chest, causing the horse to neigh in agony and fall head first into the ground, snapping its neck. With a cry, Hiccup leaped off of the horse, and with a snarl, he dispersed the Monstrous Nightmare gel with Valkyrie's Fury onto Margo's chariot. The majority of the flammable gel struck the archer driving Margo's chariot, they wailed out in agony while being burned to a crisp. The Beast of Carthage snarled out as his cloak was caught on fire, the flames burned his skin and he ripped off the cloak before his whole body was set ablaze. Since the driver of Margo's chariot was now a charred corpse, the chariot veered out of control and struck another passing chariot, the impact hurled Margo out of his chariot and he crashed down on the ground.
Landing on his feet, Hiccup narrowed his eyes at Margo to see the giant shaking off the impact before rising to his feet and locking eyes with him. Sneering at the giant, Hiccup ignited Valkyrie's Fury and sprinted toward Margo while also using his shield to protect himself from incoming arrow fire, spears, and chariot wheel blades. Seeing Hiccup rush him, Margo grabbed a spear off of the ground and then hurled it at the Viking. Quickly raising his shield, Hiccup grunted as the spear made contact with his shield and then split in half. Again, Margo grabbed a spear off of the ground and hurled it at Hiccup, however, the young Viking was able to evade the spear and he growled as he drew closer to the giant.
Drawing his sword, Margo swung his blade at Hiccup's head, but the Viking cleaved the giants' blade in half with one stroke of his axe. Quickly turning around, Hiccup proceeded to jump and land a vicious kick to the giant's face with his peg leg, causing blood and spittle to fly out of Margo's mouth. Snaring, Margo lunged at Hiccup, seizing him by the throat, now looming over the struggling Viking, the giant gave his opponent a malicious grin.
"So, you're Hiccup Haddock? Son of Stoick the Vast?" Laughing in a taunting manner, Margo continued. "Now you will die and join your vile, incompetent race in death."
Roaring out in outrage at the disrespect Margo voiced about his loved ones and people, Hiccup reached for the dagger strapped in his left arm brace and then drove the blade into the left side of Margo's face. Releasing Hiccup while crying out in agony, Margo clutched his face but his cries of pain intensified when Hiccup hit Margo's left side with Valkyrie's Fury. The flaming axe burned his skin and the sharpened blade cut through flesh and muscle until it embedded in his left rib cage.
Coughing up a mouthful of blood, Margo delivered a ruthless backhand across Hiccup's face, sending him back and tumbling to the ground. As the giant ripped the axe out of his now bleeding side and the dagger out of his face, he looked over Hiccup with a murderous glare, intent on killing the Viking who had managed to inflict grievous injuries on him when no other opponent ever could. Before the giant could have the chance to see Hiccup bloodied as well, the Viking saw an enemy chariot veering out of control and heading right towards them. Quickly moving away, Hiccup ducked underneath the chariot's wheel just in time.
However, Margo wasn't so fortunate.
Before Margo could move away, the chariot moved too fast, the blade jutting out from the right wheel made contact with his waist, slicing him in half like a hot knife through butter. Margo's roars of agony entwined with the chaos of battle around him, those roars, however, were then silenced forever due to the massive amount of blood loss.
Getting up off of the ground, Hiccup retrieved his dagger and Valkyrie's Fury before sheathing the smaller blade and then proceeded to decapitate the already dead Margo. Finding a stray horse, Hiccup mounted it and presented the head to both his Kumandran allies and Drago's forces. Seeing the head of their champion in the clutches of Hiccup Haddock shattered the morale of the Carthaginian forces, and they all knew that if they returned to Drago empty handed, he would see them all executed for failure. Instead of living with the crushing weight of defeat and failure, the Carthaginian warriors all proceeded to kill themselves with their own blades. When the last Carthaginian fell by their own sword, the Kumandran forces looked to Hiccup who steered his horse towards them.
Hiccup steered his horse to gallop in circles before he raised his axe high in the air, a gesture of victory and hope. For the Kumandran people, this was the first time they fought side by side against an enemy that desires to see them all eradicated. This victory was the first of many, Hiccup knew that if the Kumandran people continued to work together in harmony such as they did during this battle, Drago and his Northern Alliance would fall.
With Margo dead, Hiccup knew that they needed to keep the pressure on Drago by killing his aspiring commanders and preventing them from becoming the Northern Alliances' new warlords.
Once his commanders were all dead, Drago would have to command all the various armies in his junta, leaving him overwhelmed and vulnerable.
"Enjoy your remaining days, Drago," Hiccup murmured to himself. "I will do what I set out to do by killing you and rid the world of your junta and your legacy."
Both Raya and Namaari joined Hiccup, the two lovers shared a look before looking at their Viking ally. "Now that this place is safe, we need to pursue the next aspiring warrior that wishes to become a warlord in the Northern Alliance," Hiccup said before looking at Raya. "Who's next?"
"Iskra, the Ignoble, she's a Slavic warrior who was under the command of Griselda the Grievous. She was tasked with leading an attack force into Talon's markets, cutting the flow of trade and commerce," Raya then looked to Namaari. "We should find any traces of survivors here first, then we'll head back to the war camp and inform Dang Hai that his people are under threat."
Nodding in agreement, Namaari then looked at Hiccup, he appeared to be deep in thought. "Hiccup? What is it?" Raya too looked at Hiccup after giving orders to her men to search for any surviving villagers and farmers.
"Nothing," seeing both his female companions giving him an unconvincing look, Hiccup reassured them. "It's nothing, really." Skeptical at first, both Namaari and Raya nodded before moving on, leaving Hiccup alone for the time being. The young Viking looked to the heavens and could feel that his time in Midgard was drawing to its inevitable end.
It was almost time for him to be reunited with his loved ones in Valhalla.
