Chapter 26: Retribution part II
A/N: I'm gonna turn up the heat here, people, this story is getting close to its ending and I want to try and make these next few chapters as crazy as I possibly can. With that said, let's start with this chapter.
(Normal pov— Fang Nation)
Drago had faced many challenges in his lifetime— great nations had boldly defied him, warriors that some would say are unbeatable were beaten by his hand, and he formed a junta of mighty and powerful warriors that have crushed all who have risen to challenge the might of the Northern Alliance.
But now, for the first time in Drago's life, he fears he may have overreached in attempting to enslave the Druun and make them another appendage of his mighty junta.
The portal that had opened after Mostafa had been consumed by violet fire allowed the Druun and their hordes to pour out of their ascendant plain and into the mortal world like a swarm of enraged hornets. Dragons that were now poisoned by darkness and possessed by Xodar soon breached through, they rained down violet fire on anything that moved, causing everyone to scatter and cry out in terror. Whilst these possessed dragons poured out of the portal in full force, the warriors and men that the Druun had abducted and warped advanced on those who were utterly dumbstruck by the display of raw power. Druun abominations too poured through, backing the rear as they turned their ravenous eyes to any human and attacked, taking them back to their world to poison their hearts and minds with darkness or simply killing them without compassion or mercy. And finally, two massive paws gripped the sides of the portal until the head of a terrifying dragon emerged from the portal. Its massive, snake-like body emerged out until it stood on its hind legs and unleashed an unnatural roar, one that shook the earth and caused the skies to turn black as night, and violet lightning crackled in the heavens.
"WE ARE THE DRUUN! WE ARE ABOVE THE FRAILTY AND WEAKNESS OF HUMANITY! WE WILL NOT BECOME SLAVES TO YOUR PATHETIC RACE, WE SEEK RETRIBUTION FOR THIS FEEBLE ATTEMPT AND AGAINST SISUDATU, THE LOWEST OF DRAGON KIND. YOU WILL ALL DIE!"
Xodar's voice rattled the skulls of every human, causing them all to drop to their knees and cradle their heads. Drago too fell to his knees, clutching his head with both hands as he snarled out in agony, his head threatening to split in half and he could feel blood trickling out of his ringing ears. The war master knew that even with the magical matter he had his servants secure and forge weapons out of, it wouldn't be enough to defeat Xodar and his hordes. With his men who were bold enough to stand up and fight now being cut down and overwhelmed, Drago knew that he needed to leave this place, as well as his army.
Getting to his feet, Drago grabbed a horn off one of his dead men, a horn meant for sounding the retreat. Blowing with all his might, Drago sounded the horn four times, and on the fourth blow, he tossed the horn aside and cried out when a Druun abomination tackled him to the ground. The abominations were humans who were corrupted by darkness, they were hulking bruisers that bore six arms and ran like an animal would. And their faces were turned inside out but they still possessed the ability to rip men to pieces with their claws and their sharp teeth.
Leaning away from snapping jaws, Drago used his false arm which was now made out of the matter that made the Druun vulnerable to seize them by the throat and flip them over. Now straddling the thrashing abomination, Drago began bashing his attacker's face in with his left hand. Violet blood spatter struck Drago across the face, but he didn't stop until his left fist was buried through the abomination's face and it stopped thrashing. Panting heavily, Drago could see Druun warriors surrounding him, all of them ready to pounce on him, like a leopard stalking a gazelle.
Suddenly, a ring of fire surrounded Drago, keeping the now advancing Druun warriors at bay. Looking to the sky, Drago was pleased to see Askari of Ashes and his Singetail looming over him, he then urged his mound to descend. Lifting a hand up when they were close enough, Drago was lifted off the ground and found himself on the back of Askari's Singetail the second several Druun abominations leaped through the ring of fire and then dived at him, only to miss their mark. Xodar looked in Drago's direction, with a snarl, his maw glowed a deep shade of violet, and then he exhaled a cloud of flames at the man who tried to enslave him and his Druun.
"DRAGO BLUSVIST! YOU WILL SUFFER FOR YOUR FEEBLE ATTEMPT TO ENSLAVE ME AND THE DRUUN IN YOUR PATHETIC ARMY!"
Again, Xodar unleashed a fatal torrent of violet flame, some of it licking the back of Drago's neck, causing the war master to snarl in pain, while placing a hand on the back of his neck, only to recoil from the searing pain. Askari's Singetail was spooked by the fire, it roared out in fear while also bucking wildly in the air. Grunting in an effort to keep themselves from falling to their deaths, Askasri jerked violently against the reins around his Singetail's maw, even driving his heels against the dragon's sensitive clavicle.
"Easy, dragon," Askari growled as his Singetail grew ever more spooked as it evaded another cloud of the violet flame Xodar breathed in their direction. Drago snarled as he used his bullhook to strike the Singetail's side, causing it to roar in agony. Having enough abuse from its oppressors, the Singetail stopped struggling and submitted its life to Askari, once more. "Yes. Easy. Do as I command." The head of the Dragon Flyers could see the bulk of his forces engaging with the dragons the Druun had possessed, many of his flyers were falling, and it was a battle not worth fighting. Reaching for a horn strapped at the small of his back, Askari blew it, rallying his flyers to his position. "Forget the Druun, focus on evacuating our forces in the city, take them to the warships," he then continued. "Those who do not make it to you will die with the imperial citizens of Fang Nation." The flyers looked to their master, wanting to know whether Askari's words were his own.
"Heed Askari's command," Drago said firmly. "Go, all of you!" Bowing their heads, the flyers scattered and went to work on evacuating as many of their allies off the streets. Urging his Singetail to fly towards the harbor, Askari turned back to his master, awaiting his orders. Pointing towards the harbor, Drago growled out. "There! Get me to my flagship,"
The head of the Dragon Flyers nodded and steered his Singetail straight towards The Conqueror. The war master was pleased to see that the majority of his forces were already making their escape, his warship was among the first to leave Fang Nation's canal. Upon touching down on the deck of his warship, Drago slid off of Askari's Singetail and saw the warriors onboard rally to their master for guidance.
"We must leave this place, the Druun are too many, and the weapons we've forged that pose a threat to them are too few," Drago then looked back to the doomed city and growled in disbelief. "Mostafa was corrupted by those devils and was then used as a sacrifice to open the gates of hell. If we do not leave now, everything that we have worked for will have been for nothing. We retreat, gather our strength, and reach out to anyone in Kumandra who would join our cause. My plan to force the Druun into submission has failed, now we have no choice but to find the dragons we lost and find a new alpha that will be under my control and who will keep the dragons in line." The war master then made a dismissive gesture with his false hand. "Set sail. We go!" The warriors onboard quickly manned their stations, not wanting to press their master's patience, which was already stretched thin.
As his mighty warship sailed out of the imperial city canal, Drago could see Askari's flyers carrying dozens of his men and dropping them off on the other retreating warships. Releasing a heavy sigh, Drago then cursed himself for being so foolish; his hubris had led him to believe that he could completely command power as mighty as the Druun. Forcing them into submission had been a bold gambit, but one that had failed. And he had nearly met his end at the hands of Xodar, who was a sentient dragon. Drago could only imagine the enemies he'd crush and the territory he could claim if he had Xodar and his Druun under his command.
The possibilities were endless...
But Drago cast out any hope of commanding the Druun, he had underestimated their full might, and it nearly cost him everything. Now was the time to retreat, assess his options, and prepare for what Hiccup Haddock would throw at him next.
His mighty junta, which has conquered many lands and put countless civilizations to the slaughter in the name of strength and cutting out human weakness now reeks of failure and uncertainty. The scent is strong. When Drago was a younger man leading his junta, he would watch his armies from afar as they laid waste to the weaker, less able opponents that were foolish enough to stand in his way. He had seen how the blood of those he put to the slaughter would bring the larger, hungrier, and deadlier opponents who wished to stop him and his Northern Alliance from destroying them. The same will happen to his junta if he lets it.
But he will not.
Drago will not fail.
"I've come too far and lost too much only to fail now," the war master murmured to himself. Shaking his head, he growled lowly. "I will not fail."
Lahn Wei had many regrets in his life, being one of Drago's Chosen required doing... grotesque things, to say the very least. While abroad, Lahn did what he had to do in order to stay alive, lest Drago spotted his refusal to kill his enemies as a show of weakness and removes him from his junta by killing him. The blood on his hands has been impossible to clean, Lahn knew that Drago didn't regret the lives he's claimed or the civilizations he's put to the slaughter because they wouldn't join him and his goal of ruling the world. This conquest was about power and complete domination, with no regard for the lives destroyed for sake of ruling the world.
But now, seeing his people being slaughtered because Drago craved the power of the Druun to aid him in his conquest made Lahn Wei realize that following Drago was a lost cause. If he didn't do something to help his people, they would all die. Seeing his "allies" fleeing was of no surprise, especially since their numbers weren't what they used to be. Drago played with fire and now Fang Nation's imperial citizens are now being burned as a result.
Whilst the chaos ensued, Lahn's mother, General Atitāya and her fellow commanders led the imperial army to aid the people in evacuating the city. Many of the warriors in the imperial army had their weapons made out of the matter that Drago's men had recovered, with these weapons, they were able to slow the Druun's advance for the moment, giving those who couldn't fight the time they needed to flee their doomed home.
Sprinting through the streets, Lahn had come face to face with several Druun warriors. They were tall, skinny, and bore sharp teeth as well as claws that could tear a man to pieces. Thankfully, Lahn had reforged his sword with the magical matter that was able of killing Druun, he drew his blade just as one of his attacks lashed out. Bringing his sword down on one of their arms, Lahn smiled when he saw his first opponent recoil while clutching its severed arm while shrieking in agony. With a grunt, Lahn then thrust his blade through their throat, silencing them forever.
Roaring rage, the Druun warriors encircling Lahn all pounced. With a cry, Lahn quickly somersaulted backward just as his attackers came down on him with their claws. One of them was fast enough to slash Lahn across his chest, he recoiled with a sharp cry of pain, the claws cut right through his white and gilded armor, drawing blood. Another Druun warrior attacked Lahn from behind, causing him to fall to his knees and groan in agony, he could feel the deep gashes along his back as well as blood trickling down his sides and spine. Arrows whistled through the air, striking down the Druun warriors, killing them. Lahn looked up to see his mother and a handful of her best warriors coming to his aid.
"Son!" Atitāya crouched down to help Lahn up. Turning to one of her larger, stronger warriors, the general urged them to take her son. "Take my son, get him out of here!" Carrying the wounded Lahn, the hulking warrior and a handful of others then make a break for the main gate.
"M-Mother!"
"I'll be fine, son!" Atitāya reassured. "My men will get you out of here. I'll see you shortly!" The general and her men continued to cut down Druun that stood in their way while also getting as many of their people out of harm's way.
Lahn let out a relieved sigh, were these his "allies" in the Northern Alliance, they would have left him for dead in favor of saving their own skin. Before he passed out from the pain, Lahn renounced his loyalty to Drago and his Northern Alliance.
He was home now, and he would see to it that Drago would pay for playing a part in his home's destruction.
Somwang had been taught to maintain a sense of calm, even under the most dreadful circumstances. Despite her best efforts to keep calm, she was in a panic, searching for her mother whilst the imperial city was being destroyed by the Druun. The last place she had seen her mother was in the throne room after Drago's men had killed her father and those that were loyal to her late aunt, Virana as well as the people of Fang Nation itself, the war master of the Northern Alliance began to brutally rape her mother.
A sight that made Somwang's blood boil, but she couldn't save her mother whilst she was being raped, Drago would take her life if she made an attempt on his own life.
None of that mattered right now, what mattered was that she made it out of the city with her mother by her side. As Somwang rushed through the palace halls, she raced to the chambers that Drago had been residing in, if her mother was there, then it was worth taking a look.
Upon reaching the madman's chambers, Somwang burst into the room to find her mother, curled up against the corner next to the window. She was shackled, but she was also beaten, bloodied, and bruised. Kneeling to see her mother passed out, Somwang cursed Drago under her breath, he would pay for this offense, one way or another. Finding that the keys to the shackles were on the war master's desk, Somwang took them and unlocked her mother's shackles, she scooped her up in her muscular arms and ran as fast as her legs could carry her.
Once she found herself outside the palace, Somwang laid eyes on destruction the likes of which she has never seen before. Violet fire rained down on everyone and everything, and thick clouds of smoke rose in the air, making it difficult to breathe. The sky was black as night while violet lightning crackled in the heavens, some of those bolts coming down on top of the massive dragon that stood in the center of the city. It continued to unleash roars loud enough to leave a man deaf, but Somwang did not fear. With her mother still in her arms, she descended the palace steps and raced to the royal stables which held not only their horses but also their Serlot mounds. Many of those in high position were releasing their respective horses or Serlot mounds out of the stables since the structure itself was ablaze and was threatening to collapse in on itself. Finding her bonded Serlot, Somwang quickly strapped on the saddle and then threw her mother on the front before she climbed onto the saddle and urged her Serlot to run like the wind just as the stables were collapsing. They got out just as the structure collapsed into a smoldering heap of rubble.
Somwang blamed all this death and destruction that she was witnessing on Drago Bludvist, the man's thirst for power and his obsession to recoup his junta's numbers is what led to this catastrophe. But now was not the time to place the obvious blame on the now fleeing war master of the Northern Alliance, he was a coward in the end, and he would meet the cruel, violent death that he deserves, but that day has yet to come. Urging her Serlot to make a break for the main gates, Somwang prayed that by day's end, her people wouldn't be wiped off the face of the earth.
She prayed that her gods were not so cruel.
"Somwang!"
Sirinan and Mayari, both perched on their respective mounds while also carrying some of their people on the backs of their mounds. Many of the imperial Serlot riders were escorting as many of their people out of the city as they could, while also evading dragons possessed by the Druun.
"We need to get as many of our people out of here!" Somwang barked out to the siblings. As they neared the main gates, she smiled before continuing. "Alright, drop off the people who have at the main gate, while they run, head back to retrieve as many of our people as you can. Then, we discuss our next course of action with Namaari."
As the two siblings and the imperial Serlot riders got to work, Somwang was able to make it out of the city with her mother still in one piece. Urging her Serlot to make a break for the jungle, Somwang noticed Tail Nation ship close by, curious, she decided to investigate.
Hopefully, those sneaking mercenaries weren't paid to make their already ruined lives all the more difficult.
With the Druun now fully unleashed, the hell they were raining down on Fang Nation's imperial city woke those asleep on the Shrimporium. None of the occupants were more emotional than Namaari, seeing her home being destroyed, hearing the bloodcurdling cries of horror, and seeing Northern Alliance warships fleeing made the new chief fall to her knees. Tears poured down her cheeks like a waterfall, she huffed and puffed in misery, and rage flowed through her veins at the thought of Drago Bludvist fleeing the chaos, it was his fault for playing with power that couldn't be completely controlled and that her people were being killed by the Druun.
"Odin's beard," Hiccup exhaled in shock and awe. Pointing to Xodar, he turned to Sisu. "What in all that's sacred on Midgard is that?"
"That's Xodar, The Malicious. He was once the greatest dragon in Kumandra, but when the Druun first came to claim this world, they took him, and he became a monster," the water dragon then released a shaky breath. "He's... grown more powerful the last time I fought him."
Looking at the shaken water dragon, Raya inquired. "Can you stop him and the Druun?"
Turning to Namaari, Sisu gave her a smile and nodded. "With the last gem piece, I will stop the forces of darkness," she held out her paws. "Kumandra's future depends on this battle, Namaari. Will you watch as our world is husked out and corrupted by darkness? Or will you help me snuff out this evil that wants to see us all dead?" Namaari, who was on her knees then rose, taking the gem piece off of her mother's scepter, the young chief extended the final piece to Sisu. With a smile of gratitude, Sisu was about to take the final piece of her gem, when she was suddenly struck in the back with an arrow of darkness.
"SISU!"
Raya screamed in horror, the arrow then dissipated, and like an advancing shadow, the darkness crept embedded in the arrow crept into Sisu's mind, and like water that seeps into fertile soil, she was being corrupted by Xodar. The water dragon fell back into the water, yet despite being surrounded by the very element used to empower her, Xodar's raw power kept her restrained, preventing her from fighting back. As Sisu emerged out of the water with a roar, corrupted dragons seized her and they then summoned a portal to take them to the Druun's ascendent plain. With Sisu's absence from the mortal world, the water began to dry up at a rapid pace. Without this protective barrier, Druun from the mainland began to pour out of the jungles and rushed to the imperial city to aid their dark companions in feasting on the multitude of humans.
"No..." Raya exhaled shakily, tears clouding her vision at this sudden, drastic turn of events. With Sisu gone, there was no hope for Kumandra and its people. Not only that but she would never be reunited with her father. "NO!" She wailed out in despair. Hiccup looked at his companions, they too were in utter disbelief, and despair was etched on their faces.
Bone-chilling laughter suddenly filled the air as the occupants onboard the vessel looked to see the Druun's master levitating before them, though now instead of his titanic dragon form, he was in his human form and lowering a bow that soon dissipated into smoke in his hand.
"How does it feel knowing that I have ripped hope away from you?" He taunted cruelly. With a sinister grin, he then gestured to the water that was now gone and his hordes of Druun surrounding the imperial city. "Your false god is no more, all that remains is the Druun." He then lashed out, but Raya quickly used the power of the gem pieces to hold Xodar back, causing him to hiss in pain as the magic that lingered within burned him. Both his hissing of pain then turned into amused laughter. "With Sisudatu gone from this world, the power of her gem will fade, and you will not stop me," he then left the small group but not before taunting them once more. "All your efforts to bring back your incompetent race from my thrall has been in vain. You will suffer the same fate and fall to my command, and Sisudatu will not save humanity a second time." Xodar then fled, returning to the imperial city to join his subjects in feasting on the citizens who resided there.
Boun, who had conquered his fear then looked to the occupants on board his ship and pointed out to the besieged city. "All of those people are going to die unless we do something to help them," Boun exclaimed. "We have to help them!" Noi and her Ongis made sounds of agreement, eager to dive head first into peril.
Tong stepped forward and grunted in agreement. "I may not have been able to save my people from the Druun, but if I can save some of Fang Nation's imperial citizens, then I will," looking at the two princesses and vengeful Viking, Tong nodded firmly. "One of the duties of a warrior is to protect people. Right now, these people need us."
"It's what Sisu would want us to do," Raya looked to her lover and then to Hiccup. "I'm going to honor her memory by saving as many lives as I can."
Placing a hand on Raya's shoulder, Namaari nodded firmly. "As will I. Not only do I do this in honor of Sisudatu, but in honor of my parents, and all my people that Drago has forced to suffer and die," she then looked to her besieged home. "What manner of Chief would I be if I left my people to die at the hands of the Druun? I would never forgive myself if I stood idle and did nothing."
All eyes then turned to Hiccup, they knew that this wasn't his fight, but they gave their Viking companion a hopeful look. For Hiccup himself, this was an unbearable sight to behold; suddenly, he found himself back on Berk, witnessing the destruction and chaos that Drago, his pet killer, and his army inflicted on his people and his home. Seeing these devils destroying Namaari's home struck Hiccup with a sharp pang of regret, he was still traumatized by his actions of defiance, he had believed he could change the mind of a madman that his father had said is unable to heed reason. Hiccup knew his disobedience towards his father is what led to the utter destruction of his home and Scandinavia, and as much as he could revert the sun and take back his actions, he would do so without hesitation. Sadly, that wasn't possible. But now, Hiccup had the opportunity to set aside his intense desire for revenge and help people who are facing extermination.
"That stuff can kill you from the inside, Hiccup: revenge, anger, obsession, trust me, I know. It can make you do things you never thought you were capable of. Cause you to take chances, make mistakes, if that doesn't end you, then it'll eat away at you slowly."
Hiccup recalled Dagur's words to him back when he and Toothless had been shot down while in search of Viggo, many years ago. How ironic that Dagur was right; revenge, anger, and his obsession to kill Drago and every last member of the Northern Alliance were driving Hiccup to insanity, slowly but surely. His inner demons told him to let Namaari's people die, they're irrelevant, and killing Drago is all that matters. Despite losing his family, his friends, his tribe, and his betrothed to a monster, Hiccup knew that Drago and his followers are now going into hiding, their numbers dwindling with each passing day.
Revenge could wait.
With a heavy sigh, Hiccup raised his eyebrows in question. "What do you need me to do?"
Namaari smiled, grateful that Hiccup, who she's known since last night had set aside his rightful vendetta against Drago in favor of helping her save the lives of her people. "We need to get over to the city's main gates, Drago's men had built a bridge that connects to the mainland, if my people are smart, they'll be evacuating and head through that gate. We need to ensure that we can keep the Druun at bay—"
"Namaari, I'm the only one among us with a blade capable of killing Druun," Raya stated, brandishing her whip sword. "It's forged from magical elements, and one of the small number of weapons capable of killing Druun."
Gasping in remembrance, Namaari then smirked. "Drago and his men had taken a magical element capable of killing or forcing the Druun into submission not long ago, they had been forging countless weapons and arrows out that matter, outfitting the entirety of Fang Nation's army with it, Drago and his men only received a small portion of it, but they had enough to fight off the Druun and then leave us to be torn to pieces," snorting, Namaari then murmured under her breath. "The next time I see Drago, he's going to pay—"
"I get it, and believe me, Drago is going to be in for a rude awakening very soon, but why don't we focus on saving your people, Chief Namaari," Hiccup said before raising his eyebrows. "Shall we?"
Nodding, Namaari leaped out of the vessel and made her way through the jungle. Raya turned to Hiccup and nodded at him, the two of them then raced to Tuk Tuk, climbing on the back of the furry Pillbug and then turning to the rest of their companions. "Come on," Raya said. "Let's get moving!" Boun, Noi, and her Ongis climbed on Tuk Tuk as well, Tong, however, followed Namaari on foot, the hulking warrior releasing a battle cry as they charged head first into the besieged city.
Suddenly, a familiar roar filled Namaari's ears, she then gasped when she saw Somwang and her Serlot come to a stop. "Namaari! You're alive!" Dismounting her Serlot, Somwang sprinted to her cousin and wrapped her arms around her, giving her a hug that knocked the air out of Namaari's lungs. She then broke the embrace and smiled in relief. "Oh, I feared the worst, I'm glad you're safe, dear cousin."
"This is a touching reunion, Somwang, but I'm going back—"
"No! Namaari, you can't!" Gesturing at the mayhem and carnage before them, Somwang shook her head. "Our home is lost. We need to leave—"
"I'm chief now! My mother's last act was giving me the responsibility of leading our people and ensuring their prosperity," shaking her head, Namaari then challenged. "What manner of leader would I be if I abandoned the people I've been tasked with protecting?" She continued to run back to her home, barking over her shoulder. "Either help me or stay out of my way!"
Raya urged Tuk Tuk to keep moving until the furry Pillbug was right behind Namaari, who was running like the wind. Upon exiting the jungles, there were thousands of people fleeing the city, the imperial army defending them to the best of their ability, but the Druun kept pouring out of the massive portal that hung above the city. Namaari could hear advancing footsteps behind, she was surprised yet pleased that her cousin had come back to help, though, with her incapacitated mother, Somwang had her mound watch over her for the time being.
"Alright, Chief, where do we start?"
Namaari could see that scores of her people were heading in their direction, many of them exclaiming that Namaari was alive and that she was wielding her mother's scepter, a sign that she was now their leader. She then turned to Somwang. "You stay here, ensure that the people get as far away from the city as possible," nodding in understanding, Somwang then began to lead people into the jungle once they approached them. Namaari then turned to her lover, Hiccup, and the rest of her new companions. "Everyone else, come with me!" As they pushed towards the bridge connecting to the artificial island that the city was built upon, Namaari drew one of her dual blades when she spotted a Druun warrior advancing straight towards her. With a snarl, Namaari slid underneath her opponent and proceeded to hack their legs off, causing them to plummet to the ground. She then finished it off by driving her blade through their head, causing them to reduce to smoke, and violet essence escaped the now deceased Druun warrior.
"Namaari! Over here!"
Sirinan and Mayari approached, still perched on their mounds while offloading more of their people. General Atitāya and a large garrison of imperial warriors were escorting the remainder of their people, those who weren't killed, taken, or killed by the Druun. Fang Nation's general laid eyes on Namaari, noting she carried her mother's scepter.
"Chief Namaari," Atitāya gestured to the chaos around them. "I wish we could celebrate your coronation as chief, but that will have to wait. This all that remains of our people who yet live, we must leave, now!"
"Agreed!" Namaari then gestured for those accompanying her to follow her. "Come! Everyone!" However, Druun cut off their escape, some of them advancing on them like a pack of predators that was about to overwhelm their prey.
"We're trapped!" Tong exclaimed. "Quickly, use the gem pieces to hold them off!"
Raya pulled out her satchel that held all the gem pieces, she tossed one to Tong, and handed one to Hiccup, Boun, Noi, and then Namaari. Once they all had a piece of Sisu's gem, Boun gasped in horror as he pointed out. "The gem's power is fading! We need to make this fast!"
"Go! All of you, get out of here!" Tong bellowed out to the remainder of the imperial citizens. As they made a break for the main gate, Druun blights attempted to intercept them, but Tong used what power the gem piece he wielded to make the malicious blights flee from the light stored within the gem piece. "Go, while there's time!"
With the last of the imperial citizens safe, the entirety of the Druun advanced, despite their attempts to halt their aggressors with the gem pieces, their powers were fading by the second. Once again, Xodar presented himself to the brave group of humans who risked their lives to ensure that others may see another sunrise.
"Such heroism, alas, your bravery is wasted," Xodar smirked. He then gestured around the imperial city, which was burning to the ground and in utter shambles. "Look around you, humans. This is only the beginning. Soon, your whole world will be reduced to this." With a dismissive wave of his hand, Xodar spoke to his flock. "Dispatch these fools."
Raya drew her sword, activating the whip feature, she then whirled her blade around her head, striking down any Druun that advanced. Blights moved in for the kill but were held at bay thanks to the power of the gem, which suddenly began to brim with power, much to the surprise of the group.
"The gems, they're..."
"...regaining power?"
Xodar gasped softly at this sudden turn, Sisu had been taken to their ascendant plain, she should've been corrupted by darkness completely, her will broken, and she would be nothing but another puppet in his army. "Impossible," he murmured to himself. "How is she...? What're you waiting for? Finish them, you fools!" The Druun hordes then all charged, nearly drowning the group of humans in darkness, however, another portal opened above them all, and from that portal, Sisudatu, the Last Dragon emerged with a thunderous roar. Soon, the skies wept, and rain poured down on top of the Druun hordes, causing them all to shriek out in agony and flee to find cover but many of them were struck down.
"Xodar!"
Sisu then bulldozed into the Druun's master, because he was in his human form, he was far more vulnerable, and the force of Sisu's blow sent him crashing into a nearby pillar. The pillar split and fell on top of Xodar, crushing him, and causing him to snarl out in agony. Huffing and puffing in rage, the malicious dragon unleashed an enraged roar, he then returned to his titanic, draconic form.
"YOU WILL NOT DEFEAT ME, SISUDATU! YOU WILL MEET YOUR END THIS DAY, I PROMISE YOU!"
Turning to her companions, Sisu barked out. "Run!" They all ran without hesitation, making it through the main gates, and running along the bridge. Sisu was behind them, looking at the canal, the water dragon was pleased to see that the waters were returning, the rains helped in keeping Xodar's army at bay, but the malicious dragon was unaffected by the heavy rain, clearly, he had been preparing to protect himself from the magic that was embedded in the rain.
Raya, who had stopped running, noted that Sisu was contemplating how to combat Xodar in his titanic form. The princess of Heart Nation then approached her dragon companion and placed a hand on her neck, causing the water dragon to face her. "Take this, it's the final gem piece," the princess placed the final piece in Sisu's paw. As the water dragon was empowered by the magic, Raya gave her companion a firm nod. "Finish this, for all of us."
Instead of answering Raya, Sisu suddenly leaped into the water. Confused by this gesture, everyone watched as the waters soon began to glow a radiant blue, the waters then began to flow in the direction where Sisu had leaped. And as the water dragon emerged out of her natural habitat, everyone beating witness was shocked at the sight of Sisudatu, the Last Dragon of Kumandra reaching the same stature as Xodar. Unleashing a mighty roar, Sisu slapped her tail against the water four times, a gesture of challenge to the Druun's master.
Snarling, Xodar then charged Sisu, believing he still possessed the advantage of his immense power and raw strength. However, before Xodar could lash out at the one who had imprisoned him and his followers in the ascendant plain for five centuries, water burst up beneath Xodar, striking him in the belly with enough force to render him breathless. Now splayed out in the air, Sisu inhaled sharply and then unleashed a torrent of blue fire. The azure flame was so hot that it maimed Xodar's hulking dragon frame. As the mighty water dragon continued to hammer Xodar with its fire, massive tendrils of water wrapped around the Druun's master like serpents constricting its prey.
It seemed as if Sisu had gained the upper hand.
However, the dragons that had been corrupted by darkness somehow were tolerating the magic-infused rainfall and they ran across the sky and raced to their master's aid. In their maws was the life force known as Chi, acquired from the Fang Nation citizens they had encountered. With the power of Chi being dropped down his throat, Xodar absorbed this power greedily as he felt his own grip on life slipping away. His veins burned bright violet as the water tendrils that were robbing him of breath were then broken by a large blast of dark power.
"YOU WILL NOT KILL ME THAT EASILY, SISUDATU!"
Xodar's thunderous words were back by action, he charged Sisu by bashing his head against hers, knocking the water dragon back and sending her into the water with a massive slash. With a series of chants, Xodar grew another pair of paws that sprouted from the sides of his torso. Reaching down into the water, Xodar wrapped his paws around Sisu's middle while his other two took hold of her lower jaw and head, with the intention of feasting on her Chi. He even ascended, with the intention of allowing humanity to bear witness as their false god falls by his might.
Raya gasped in horror as Xodar was already starting to take her Chi. Turning to Hiccup, she then pointed out. "If that monster takes Sisu's Chi, he'll be unstoppable and we're all dead!" Quickly looking over Xodar's frame for a weakness, Raya smiled to herself when she spotted a vulnerable spot underneath Xodar's throat. "There! Aim for his throat!"
Nodding, Hiccup took one of the arrows that were made out of the magical matter Drago had acquired. Loading the arrow into his shield which had been reverted to its crossbow mode, the vengeful Viking took aim. Narrowing his eyes, Hiccup spotted Xodar's weak spot, after taking a deep breath to calm his racing nerves, Hiccup pulled the trigger, and let the arrow fly. As it whistles through the air, it struck its mark, piercing flesh and bone with ease. Roaring out in agony, Xodar released Sisu and clutched his wounded throat. Feeling his life force and power fading fast, Xodar knew that if he was to be the victor of this battle, he needed to kill Sisu and feast on her Chi to become immortal and unstoppable.
Sisu, who was recovering from having her life force taken from her then retreated to the water below, only to hear Xodar's enraged roars behind her. She could feel him gaining up on her, and once she was about to touch the surface of the water, she steered to the left and summoned the water to hit Xodar with the force of a tidal wave. The blow sent the Druun's master crashing down into the water, once again, large tendrils of water wrapped around Xodar before dragging him underneath the waters, drowning him. Pressing the advantage, Sisu, now morphing into her human form, suddenly summoned the magical matter able to kill Druun, the matter manifested itself in the palm of her hand until it became a spear.
"Xodar, The Malicious, you will no longer threaten humanity again, nor will your Druun," Sisu gripped the spear in both her hands before descending down onto the drowning Xodar, who was trying to break free from the tendrils of water that kept him below. She then cried out as raised the spear high above her head, and upon reaching Xodar's exposed chest, Sisu brought her magical spear down, piercing Xodar's black heart.
"NOOOO!"
Unleashing one last roar of agony, Xodar imploded violently from within; a wave of black smoke spread out like a shockwave, as did bits and pieces of Xodar's body. With his death, the Druun were leaderless, no longer were they the ferocious fighting force they were earlier, instead, they had rather become feral, like animals wandering the land. Sisu then used the power of her gem to once again banish the Druun from the mortal world, and this time, they were no more, its energy releasing a wave of light and magic that utterly destroyed the malicious blights off the face of the world. Now nothing but a memory, those that the Druun had taken into their thrall, humans, and dragons, were released at long last; the darkness and evil that had infected them were purged from their hearts and they were the way they were prior to being taken by the foul monstrosities that used them as puppets. Thousands of men, women, and dragons were returned to their original state of being, many of them were demented, but when they realized that they were all free, they then looked to Sisu with shock and awe.
Descending to the water, Sisu turned to her companions, all of Fang Nation's imperial citizens who had witnessed the titanic battle that had ensued, and all who were released from the Druun's thrall. Walking on the glassy surface of the water, Sisu soon morphed back into her dragon form and was greeted by Raya, who gave her a warm hug, one that caught Sisu by surprise, but the water dragon let out a heartfelt laugh and returned Raya's hug.
"That. Was. Amazing," Raya murmured against Sisu's hair. Pulling back to look the water dragon in the eyes, the nomadic princess of Heart Nation beamed. "You did it! You defeated the Druun once again and brought everyone back!"
Pulling Raya into another warm hug, the water dragon cooed. "I told you that I would," she then broke their embrace and looked at the crowds of people looking at her with shock and awe. They all paid homage by forming a gem with their hands. All of them spoke words of gratitude to her for saving their lives and their world from total darkness. Acknowledging the people's praise and gratitude, Sisu then gave Raya a questioning look. "So, what now?"
Stepping forward, both Raya and Sisu could see Hiccup's forest-green eyes blaze with fiery determination. "Now, we prepare for war by uniting Kumandra's people and dragons under one banner," looking at his companions: Raya, Sisu, Boun, Noi, Tong, and Namaari, the Viking gave them a firm nod. "It's time to set aside your differences and to become unified by Sisu's heroism. With Sisu leading the dragons of your lands by our side and with each of the nations behind us, we will strike down Drago and his army from this world. Then, and only then, will you and your lands be at peace."
Namaarii stepped forward, placing a hand on Hiccup's shoulder. "I'm with you, Drago Bludvist killed my parents and he nearly destroyed us all because he believed he could enslave the Druun," she then bore her fangs. "You have my word, my armies will support you in this fight."
"As will Spine Nation!" Tong exclaimed proudly. He then shrugged. "Of course, we will need to tell them of the threat Drago and his army pose to us all, but when they see Sisudatu and the dragons by our side, they will rally to you."
Boun shrugged. "I can't promise you an army, but you can count on me to stand by your side!" Smiling at the boy, Hiccup ruffled his hair playfully, causing Boun to laugh. Noi made babbles of agreement with what Boun said, her Ongis gave the Viking their signature grins, causing Hiccup to roll his eyes, yet smile in thanks that they were by his side.
Turning to Raya, Hiccup smiled at her, she returned the gesture and nodded. "We've stuck together for this long, we might as well end this journey together," she then playfully punched him in the chest. "I'm with you, Hiccup Haddock." He then looked at Sisu, the water dragon gave him a firm nod and warm smile, silently telling him that she and the rest of the dragons were with him.
Looking out towards the horizon, Hiccup nodded to himself. The end was drawing near, and soon, he would face Drago once again. He would avenge the deaths of the Viking people and all those he held close to his heart, or he would die trying.
A/N: We're nearing the end! Hope you guys are ready for the inevitable fight Hiccup and Drago will have, it's gonna be brutal and gritty, that's all I'll say! Anyway, see you in the next update.
