"Words in double quotes." - Talking
'Words in single quotes.' - Thoughts
Priorities
Ragini hummed to herself as she finished ironing Laksh's suit. She grabbed the tie with it and headed towards their shared room.
However, she was greeted by an unexpected sight.
"Laksh! You're still in bed?" she sighed in defeat. 'What am I going to do with this man-child?'
Putting down the clothes, she reached for the blanket and removed it. "Oi! Get up. La-" as she touched his cheek, she gasped. With wide eyes, she put her hand carefully on his forehead.
Laksh let out a groan, confirming her suspicions. "I...I don't feel so well Ragini."
"You're burning up." she uttered, concern lacing her tone. "Wait here. I'll go get the meds."
"But...but work."
"I'm not letting you go anywhere when you're this sick!"
"Bu-"
"Why don't you take better care of yourself?! Look what happened now!" she chided. "Where are the pills for headaches? Ugh! Can't get anything when you need it!"
Laksh smiled to himself. Ragini tended to mutter and ramble when she was over worried. "Aww...is my cute wifey worried?"
Ragini slammed the cupboard door in anger. "No, I'm not! You're the one who went out to enjoy the rain! Why do you never listen?!"
Laksh chuckled.
"Stop laughing!"
"Hahaha...okay, okay. Sorry?"
Ragini just huffed in response and got back to her search.
*phone ringing*
Laksh recieved it. "Hello?"
(Sir, where are you?)
"Home. Why?"
(Will someone else precede over the meeting, sir?)
"Meeting?"
(Sir, did you forget?)
Laksh tried to recall. His eyes widened as he remembered. "Shit!" at once, he hopped to his feet and ran towards the bathroom.
Ragini, who had her back towards the bed, turned around. "Laksh! You're not going! Your healt-" Ragini squinted her eyes at the floor. 'What the...unbelievable!'
After sometime...
Laksh emerged out of the bathroom and quickly got dressed asap. "Damn, damn! How could I forget such an important meeting?! Baba's gonna have my head!"
"Ahem!"
Laksh froze as he heard Ragini clearing her throat. 'If I have any head left that is. Ragini sounds pissed.'
"Aren't you forgetting something? Namely this?!" she shouted, throwing the heating bag on the chair before him.
He turned back to her with a fearful look. "Um...I can explain."
"Explain why you acted sick? Or explain why you purposefully lied to me?"
Laksh gulped as she walked closer with angry eyes. "Well, um...you see curiosity is a tricky t-thing." he took steps back as she kept approaching. "I was curious to kn-oof!" he paused as his back hit the wall.
Ragini poked a finger at his chest. "You lied. Face it! Now tell me why without the excuses."
He sighed in defeat. "What else was I supposed to do when you don't pay me any attention?"
"Eh? But I never shied away from my responsibilities. I give you meals, manage yo-"
"That's not it!"
She cocked her head to the side. "Then?"
"People are right. Your partner becomes less romantic after marriage." he muttered to himself in irritation.
"I'm not a dog. I don't have sonic hearing. Speak audibly!"
Laksh pouted. "You don't give me enough time. It's never us anymore. And even if we're together, all you worry about is if Swara is alright."
Ragini chuckled. "Aww...jealous much? Cool down Laksh. I'm yours."
"But you give all of your time to her!"
"She's just lost her memories Laksh. How could I not be worried about her?"
"I know that! Even I'm worried about her. But you should think about me too. I'm your husband for goodness sake!"
"I do care a lot about you. I love you!" Ragini confessed. "How could you think otherwise?"
"Tell me the last time we held hands and watched the moon together. Or the last time you slept in my arms. Infact, tell me the last time you and I shared a moment without you worrying about Swara."
Ragini's look of irritation faded into one of genuine cluessness.
He watched as her eyes moved to-and-fro, trying to recall. Seeing her eyes widen, he knew she realized.
"You don't remember, do you? How would you? It's been over a month since you're obsessed with Swara's well-being. The rest of the world doesn't exist!"
"It's just that..."
"Just you're worried. I get that!" Laksh interrupted in frustration. "I'm worried about Sanky too. The guy can't be with Swara even if she's right before his eyes. On top of that, she thinks he tried to kill her! I comfort him too. But I never forget about you."
"La-"
"You know, sometimes I think that maybe you've taken me for granted. I'm happy that you care about others a lot. But it hurts knowing that I am just another someone. I thought I am a special to you."
Ragini looked at him in guilt. "Laksh, I di-"
Without a word, he moved past her and took his leave.
#Maheshwari Enterprise, 01:00pm#
Laksh sighed to himself. "First, you blame. And then you feel guilty yourself. Aish!"
*knock knock*
"No need to bring me food Kaka. I'm not hungry."
"But I cooked your favorite foods."
Laksh looked up so fast, he was surprised he didn't give himself a whiplash. "Ragini?!"
Ragini nodded with a smile and walked inside. She placed the lunchbox on the tea-table in Laksh's office room. "There's dosa, paneer, chickpe-."
Laksh closed the files and rushed towards the basin on the side of the room. "Chickpeas? What type?"
Ragini chuckled at his childish glee. "Since you love them so much, I got fried chickpeas, curry, wi-"
"Okay stop!" he sat down beside her and opened the box. "My mouth is lusting for the food!"
Ragini placed her hand on her chin and watched him. It was satisfying to see him enjoying the food. 'Although I feel bad for the kitchen.'
"So, what's the occasion?" Laksh stopped to speak, stuffing his mouth with food once more.
"I um...I brought this as a peace offering and..." she looked down in guilt. "I'm sorry."
Laksh paused.
Suddenly, the food didn't feel as amazing as it did a minute ago. "No. You don't need to apologize. I'm guilty too."
"But not as much as me. I understand your point now. I'm sorry I made you an option when you are my priority." Ragini held his hand in hers. "Swara is my sister and I will take care of her. But not at the cost of our relationship. Both of you are important to me. Both of you are irreplaceable. And I'll do everything for you two to be happy."
Laksh cracked a smile and tightened his hold on her hand. "And I'll do everything to keep that smile of yours from dropping. Everything."
Ragini bit her lip. Nevertheless, she shyly looked up and leaned closer to him.
Her heart was beating frantically at the rate of a bullet train.
She never initiated the kiss whenever she was with Laksh. He always did it. But Ragini decided to take the step this time to make him happy.
And happy he was. Without another word, he closed his eyes and waited for the touch of her lips on his.
*phone ringing*
If the phone was a person, Laksh would have slapped him into oblivion.
"Sorry." Ragini moved back with red cheeks and recieved the call that ruined the moment. The interference broke her confidence to do what she wanted. "Hello?"
(Ragini, where are you? Could you please come home. I need help.)
"I'm with Laksh right now Swara. I'll come after an hour."
(He's your husband! You can meet him at home later.)
Laksh smiled a thin smile. "Well, I guess Swara needs you. It's okay. We'll chat at home. I'll just enjoy your food for now."
Although Laksh was grinning, Ragini knew him well to know it was fake.
(Ragini! Laksh isn't a child. Please come an-)
"Exactly Swara. He's my husband and my priority. I understand you lost your memories, but you've not lost your IQ. Please adjust for now. I shall be going home later."
Laksh watched in amazement as she cut the call. "Wow! What pissed you off?"
"Only I can mock you for being a man-child. Not others."
"Haha...that's mean." he faked a pout.
"By the way Laksh..." Ragini giggled. "It felt good seeing you jealous. Even if it was over a silly thing."
"You like seeing me jealous and frustrated!?"
"More like possessive and territorial." she replied with a wink.
"Aww..." Laksh couldn't hold back and reached forward to kiss her.
Ragini squeaked out in surprise, but nevertheless responded to his kiss.
As they broke apart, Ragini pointed at the food. "Your chickpeas are missing you."
"Let them feel ignored. How can one be satisfied with mediacore after a taste of heaven?"
Without giving her a chance to blush, he pulled her back for another kiss.
