Chapter 31: Embarrassing Moment
He pushed her to the side and she fell onto the floor. Lakshya stepped in and stood in front of her and Palak, glaring at her father.
"You'll have to go through me to get to them." Ragini lifted her head up from the ground, staring at Lakshya's back.
"Ahhhh!" They cock their heads to the side, seeing Uday pinned down onto the floor and the phone taken off him.
Nikhil's father sighed a relief and Uday relaxed his body. "What's your passcode?" The man asked and Uday closed his eyes, resting his head onto the floor.
"What's the passcode?" He asked again, shaking Uday.
"I feel dizzy." He replied, pretending to be dizzy and nauseous.
"It's okay, just break the phone." Nikhil's father uttered and Uday opened his eyes in shock.
"No, you can't break it. My mum gifted it to me."
The guard stood up, placing the phone on the floor and stepping on it multiple times until the screen cracked and turned off by itself, shocking Uday, Ragini, Palak, Nikhil, Lakshya and Ananya.
"Now what will you do!" His father mocked and Uday sighed in disbelief.
"My phone. . ." His voice cracked as he trialled off, staring to get emotional.
Ragini stood back up. "Please don't do this. . ." She requested this time but her father wasn't in the mood to.
"Guard!" He ordered and the guard that broke Uday's phone walked towards them, holding onto Lakshya.
"She trusted you to tell you that she wanted to get married." Ragini further continued, "she trusted you to reveal that she's pregnant. . . Please don't do this to her."
"You'll only understand once you have your own kids!" Her mother shouted as she glared at Ragini. "This is more than just embarrassing!"
"So what? If I have my kids then I'll even let them marry the white. . . There's nothing wrong in that. As long as they stay happy!" Lakshya snapped back, feeling triggered. "Why can't they be happy! You're not entitled to them! You gave birth to them and done your job, they're not your puppets that they need to dance on your every tune! Why did you even give birth to them if you can't even let them breathe properly? Why is it always different when it comes to you? They're you're kids, respect them cause one day you'll be childless!"
Everyone were silent as he continued lashing out. "You parents think whatever decision you make for us is best for us but DO we ever TELL you it's best for us? Why are we forced to live on your terms when we have our own life to handle! What I'm feeling right now is my thoughts, you can never understand me because YOU'RE NOT ME!"
He jerked himself out from the guards grip, continuing to stare at her father. "How would you feel if your Dad did the same to you? If you've been through this then how can you be selfish enough to not see that it's creating the same impact!"
Both fathers were silent, reflecting on his words and he sighed, feeling emotionally angry. "We don't need this. . . They don't need this drama. Keep your so called parenthood to yourself cause guess what, congratulations! You've lost your children. Keep your honour and respect, Nikhil and Palak don't need them cause they're done with you and I'm taking them away!"
He walked towards Nikhil, pushing the guard off him and helping him stand. Nikhil sniffed as he hugged Lakshya. "Thank you."
Ragini held Palak's hand and pulled her with her, taking her away. Nikhil's mother freed her hand from his grip.
Ananya walked towards Uday, "get off him." She pushed the guard and the guard fell to the side. "Are you okay?" She asked concernedly and he managed to stand, nodding his head as he looked at her.
"Let's go." Lakshya uttered as he broke the hug, and Nikhil nodded.
"Wait. . ." He stopped as he turned his head to the side, heading towards his mother. "Come with me. . ."
She stared at him emotionally and shook her head, placing her hand over his cheek. "Go live your life. . . I'm always here if you need me."
"You can't live with the man who doesn't respect you at all. . ." He trailed off and she smiled painfully. "He is all that I have left. . ."
"You have me." Nikhil replied, starting to feel guilty and emotional towards his mother. After all the years he spent hating her, he now wanted her to be with him while he started his new life.
"I know I do. . ." She softly replied and held his hand. "My blessings will always be with you."
"Dad has cheated on you many times and you forgave him. He disrespects you and taunts you every single time and you're still sticking to him, why?"
"Because I vowed to stay with him through thick and think. . ."
"He did too but he's not fulfilling his promise to you." Nikhil argued and she blinked at him with wet eyes. "I know you'll be better than your father. . ."
"Please don't compromise with your self-respect for a man that doesn't even value you. . . Come with me, we can settle somewhere far. . . Where we can stay happy."
"When love overpowers self-respect, you should always choose self-respect. . . Otherwise he would continue taking advantage of you." Ananya spoke as she looked at Nikhil's father.
"I'll come and visit often. . ." She said her final decision, leaving them all in surprised, including Nikhil's father.
Nikhil was disappointed but not surprised at all as she had always been supportive towards his father no matter what he did. The first time she took a stand against his father was only for him.
"Let's go." Lakshya uttered and dragged Nikhil. Followed by Ananya, Uday, Palak and Ragini.
"This is ridiculous! How can they leave like this. . ." Nikhil's father fumed as he watched their figures disappear.
"Let them live their life peacefully." Nikhil's mother spoke as she faced her husband, angry and hurt while staring at him.

Outside, Palak couldn't stop crying while Ragini and Ananya tried consoling her.
Nikhil, Lakshya and Uday were in a corner. "I can't believe they tried doing this to us. . ." He was emotional yet angry and annoyed at the same time.
"It happens." Uday uttered, clearing his tone as he's willing to let go of the grudge he was holding, not finding this time appropriate to start complaining and moaning.
"Is the video really gone?" Nikhil sniffed as he looked at Uday. "I'd be lying if I said yes."
"What do you mean?" Lakshya asked and Uday glanced at his watch. "Maybe in an hour his Dad would be exposed?"
"How?"
"Well. . ." Uday glanced back at Nikhil and Lakshya. "I sent the video to my mum and asked for help. I also sent the video to our friend group chat before they grabbed onto me and pinned me down. Everyone must've seen it by now and shared it."
"He deserves that. I won't even feel bad for him." Nikhil uttered, relaxing as he breathed out.
"Since when did you become a crying baby?" Lakshya taunted as he looked at Nikhil.
Nikhil scoffed wiping his tears, "I'm so grateful you two turned up. . . Thank you."
"Why are you being cringing?" Uday taunted and smiled along with Lakshya.
The three shared a hug, reconciling and consoling each other.
"It's okay. . . Don't worry." Ananya uttered as she patted Palak's back.
"It's all over now. . . It's okay." Ragini consoled and rubbed her back.
"Thank you." Palak thanked the two and wiped her tears, trying to control her sobs.
"What made you guys come?" Nikhil asked as they broke the hug, curious.
"If it wasn't for Ananya or Ragini then we would've still been at the mall." Lakshya responded and turned to the side, looking at Ragini and Ananya.
"Yeahh. It was their hunch. Like, they made up a whole story in their minds and dragged us here." Uday agreed, revealing.
"Exactly. I was shocked with the way their minds work. Like without you or Palak saying anything, they managed to find out with small hints you left. . . Like how?"
"That's why they say girls minds are like detectives. . . They suspect on the smallest things all the time." Uday uttered and they chuckled afterwards, staring at them.
"But I can't believe you're about to be a Dad." Lakshya diverted the topic, surprised yet happy.
"I'm too young to be an uncle." Uday joked as he pouted. Nikhil and Lakshya chuckled. "Get used to it."
"Have you thought about what you're going to do now?" Ragini wondered and Palak wiped her tears, calming herself down.
"Get married and. . . Find a place to stay in."
"What about money?" Ananya asked and Palak sniffed. "I've got enough. . . Plus I'll work until. . . My bump is visible."
"Have you found a place?" Ragini asked and Palak shook her head. "We will start looking now."
"You can stay at mine until you find one." Ragini suggested and Palak looked at her. "You don't have to. . ."
"I don't want to let you two struggle. . . You've already been through a lot and right now you need rest, stressing over this isn't good for the child."
"But. . ."
"You need rest." She interrupted Palak and Palak blinked at her.
Nikhil, Lakshya and Uday joined them. Uday felt guilty as he looked at Palak.
"Palak. I'm sorry for what I said earlier. I was just angry that I blurted out anything I could. . ."
"It's fine." She replied to him.
"What's the plan?" Lakshya asked and Ragini looked at him. "They can rest around my house until they find a place."
"It's okay, you don't have to keep us. . ." Nikhil trailed off and Lakshya spoke "they can stay at my house."
"No. . . It's a wedding season and we can't ruin it for you like that." Nikhil refused and then Uday spoke "you can stay at mine then."
"No, it's fine. . . Your father won't be very happy. After all he is my Dad's friend."
"Then my place would be the best."
"But. . ."
"It's fine. You don't have to feel uncomfortable. I only stay with my grandma and sister. Besides her in this condition isn't good for the baby. She needs rest."
Nikhil had no choice but to agree as the two had no place to stay in and Palak needed rest.
xx
After a while, they were at Ragini's house, resting there for a while. Apart from Uday and Ananya, who went back to the mall as soon as they got a call from Ananya's mother. Lakshya stayed with Ragini, Nikhil and Palak.
Palak had fallen asleep in a room while Nikhil was sat on the couch, with Lakshya.
Ragini walked into the hall with food, handing one plate to Nikhil and one to Lakshya.
"Thank you." Nikhil uttered and started eating.
Lakshya tasted a spoonful, sighing after. "This is actually good." He uttered and continued eating it.
"Daadima made it."
"I usually don't like vegetable rice, but this is. . . Good." He replied, continuing to stuff his mouth.
"Yes. It's nice." Nikhil complimented, continuing to eat it. "Has Palak ate?"
"No, she's sleeping. . . I'll wake her up after few minutes to give her food."
"Ragini. . ." Nikhil trailed off while looking at her and she looked at him. "Thank you so much. I really appreciate your help." He added, sounding grateful as he flashed a smile at her, over his tired face.
She reciprocated to the smile rather than replying. Merely nodding her head at him.
"I'm a bit tired, can I rest in the room?" He asked and she nodded at him. "You don't need to ask." She replied and he stood up, placing the bowl of rice on the table. "Thank you." He uttered and headed towards a room.
"Poking your nose in between has always been a habit for you. . ." Lakshya trailed off after swallowing and she looked at him. "But I must say, I'm proud that you were brave enough to step in and help Palak." He added and she flapped her eyes at him him.
"Thank you." She responded to the compliment and continued blinking at him while he stared at her. "You were also good. Your words were really effective and impacting."
He curled a smile and the two shared an eye-contact. He felt glad and more relaxed after hearing her compliment him. He then recalled her saying she didn't find him charming, deciding to try something out. He placed the bowl of rice on the table in front of him and inched closer to her, surprising her.
She leaned back, as he leaned closer and closer, reaching his arm out. She was startled by his closeness and looked on.
He stared into her eyes with a small smirk playing over his lips and she flapped her eyes at him.
"What are you. . ."
He moved back after grabbing onto something, "tv controller. . . I'm bored so I'm going to watch TV." He interrupted her and played it off as he was reaching out for the controller.
She felt flustered as she glanced at him, seeing him smirking while turning the TV on. As she sighed, this time she leaned closer to him. He felt her closeness and looked on, starting to have funny feelings rush around inside of him. She reached out for the bowl and moved away straight after. Despite it being few seconds, he had already been effected, confusing himself.
He was soon distracted by the news that was playing on the TV. Watching Nikhil's father being questioned and hated on. He read the title and realised the video had created it's impact, causing havoc to Nikhil's father and Palak's father.
Ragini's eyes were also glued onto the TV as she keenly watched. "It's good the video reached the media. Such a person doesn't deserve to be our CM."
She was relieved that Nikhil and Palak were under full protection, as now if anything did happen then their parents wouldn't get away with it.
"I agree." He faced her as he continued, "you should be a candidate for the CM seat."
She faced him and creased her forehead. "Me?"
"You'll probably have the whole state poke their noses in other peoples businesses."
She glared at him as he scoffed, "haha very funny!" She exclaimed and narrowed her eyes. "I don't want to be a candidate." She added and he smiled, "they wouldn't even give you a chance Ragini."
"I never said I wanted one." She argued back and twisted her lips, rolling her eyes irritatedly.
He watched her expressions and continued smiling, finding them cute. Without realising what he was doing, he watched Ragini mumble on and on, not paying single attention to what she was saying. He merely saw her mouth move and her eyes move back to his face. Everything seemed to have been blocked out by his ears.
"You would probably kill the elder population if you were the CM." She taunted but he was clueless to what she had said.
"Where are you lost?" She questioned as she noticed he wasn't really listening to her.
He sighed as he heard her, "I'm just tired." He lied and leaned onto the sofa. "We have Adarsh's wedding to prepare for too. I just wanna be done."
"Oh yeah." She also remembered and thought about it.
His phone buzzed and he glanced down at it, seeing Annapurna's name flashing on his screen. He answered it within few seconds.
"Hello?"
"Lakshya, where is Nikhil?"
"Sleeping, why?"
"Poor soul. I saw the news and he must be feeling awful after what his father had done to him. How is the girl?"
"He's fine now and they've gotten over it. They just need time to forget it now."
"Where are you?"
"Ragini's house."
"Brings Nikhil to ours. . . Has he eaten? Is he alright?"
Lakshya felt a little jealous as he sighed, bluntly speaking to Annapurna. "He's fine, I already said that." He further complained this time "And stop worrying about him too much. You didn't ask if I ate. . ."
Ragini looked at him and she sighed again. "Lakshya. . ." He disconnected the call before Annapurna could finish her sentence.
"Awww. . . I didn't know you were a baby." She teased while blinking at him, this time smirking. "Not now Ragini."
"You complained like a child. . . Were you jealous?"
He sighed, "not now. . ."
"What not now? I'm not doing anything or saying anything. . ." She acted clueless and he leaned forward, and she moved back startled. He continued leaning forward until she stopped leaning back after her head was resting in the couch.
She flapped her eyes at him, starting to feel her heart beat a little faster. He inched closer to her face while looking down at her. She swallowed and rested his hand on the couch however it slid down and he fell forward, accidentally pressing his lips against hers. Her eyes widened and he looked on shockingly, instantly moving his face to the side. His beard brushed against her cheeks and the side of his cheek rested on her side.
He closed his eyes, feeling embarrassed while she parted her lips in shock. He could feel his heart sink and she could feel it being the end of her by rapidly colliding into her chest.
