Chapter 16: Victory
"That girl, she's there. . ." Durga Prasad and Adarsh stare in the direction Ragini's in, shocked to see her there.
"If she's here then. . ." Adarsh trials off, staring at the meeting room and Durga Prasad knew it, he knew Lakshya would create a problem.
The meeting room door opens and Ram and Durga Prasad look there, Mr Khurana walks out with three of the clients and they walk past Durga Prasad, without giving him attention.
Durga Prasad's heart skipped few beats and Ram stared at their figures exiting the main door.
"Does this mean we lost?" Ram utters, looking at Durga Prasad disappointingly.
Adarsh stared at Lakshya walk out and Ragini stands up, Lakshya glances around and sees Adarsh, Durga Prasad and Ram
Ragini walks towards Lakshya, hoping for a positive result while Lakshya sees her and having the excitement and the urge to share his happiness, he rushed towards her. She stopped and looked at him, waiting for an answer.
"We. . ." He trialled off, continuing to hold the suspense "Did it!" He continued with an exclaim and she scoffed, sighing a relief and a smile curls on her lips, he couldn't control and hugs her and she hugs him back.
Durga Prasad, Ram and Adarsh were confused. Lakshya and Ragini realised they had flown into the happiness and break the hug and look at each other.
"What happened?" Adarsh asked and Lakshya turns towards him, the excitement continues to play on his face and he runs towards Adarsh with the file in his hand, not being able to control his happiness.
It was as if he had won a cricket match and was running around with his hands up, showing his victory and Lakshya jumped on Adarsh, shocking him.
"We did it! My bedroom is saved! My wardrobe survived!" He chirped happily and Adarsh controls his balance, shocked yet relieved and a smile curls on his face while the whole office staff, including Ragini stare at them confusingly.
Ram and Durga Prasad look at Sanskaar, who walked out and nods with a smile, they sigh a relief, feeling a massive burden fall off their shoulders.
"Bhaisa. . ." Ram happily trails off and Durga Prasad falls back, leaning on the wall.
"I can't believe it. Lucky you did it!" Adarsh responded with a proud moment and Lakshya moves back, nodding at him with the excitement.
"Bhai I can't believe it either. We cracked this deal and now no one can take our house away from us! Ahhh! I never felt this happy while passing an exam, this. This feeling is just. . . I can't even explain." Lakshya remarks with a smile, feeling out of the world.
Adarsh looked at him as he heard the word 'Bhai' out from Lakshya's mouth after a long time. Sanjay creases his forehead while Ragini looks on.
Adarsh hugs Lakshya and Lakshya realises, overcoming his excitement for a bit. "I'm so proud of you Lakshya."
"Well done Chhore, you indeed made us proud." Ram complimented, placing his hand on Lakshya's head.
"Well done." Durga Prasad utters though he didn't wish to, but he realised how wrong he was about Lakshya and how wrongly he judged him.
Lakshya seriously couldn't believe it, he was hearing compliments from his family after so long, he never thought a moment would come where they would say they're proud of him instead of feeling ashamed, he doesn't know why but the word 'proud' had made him happy yet slightly emotional.
'Does this mean Lakshya is a Maheshwari?' Both Sanjay and Ragini think at the same time, looking at the family.
"Bade-Papa. Lakshya presented it so well. . . You should've been in there. It was such a, I don't know what to say. You would just see a focused and serious Lakshya in there that you would sometimes forget he's reckless." Sanskaar says, not able to get his words out, out of the happiness.
Adarsh breaks the hug, smiling at Lakshya and Lakshya curls a small smile. He then hands the file to Adarsh, taking few steps back, not knowing how he flowed in the excitement and forgot the tension between them.
"It wasn't only me, it was Ragini too. . ." He awkwardly uttered, turning towards Ragini, who had been thinking.
Lakshya walks towards Ragini and she looks at him. "Ragini, you saved a lot today and you should get the credit for this. . . Thank you." He genuinely uttered, which she sensed through his eyes.
"Thank you Ragini." Adarsh utters and she looks away from Lakshya's gazes, looking at Adarsh who smiles at her.
"Thank you." Ram says and she blinks at him. "Thank you Ragini." Sanskaar utters with a smile and Durga Prasad walks towards Ragini.
"Thank you Beta." He says, nodding at her and she blinks, curling a small smile while nodding back at them.
"In this joy, I would throw a party in our house and all of you are invited, please come today evening." Durga Prasad invites, looking around at the whole staff.
"You're not well, you should go home and take rest." Lakshya utters while looking at her and she wasn't sure if his concern was genuine.
"Yes Beta, if you're not well then you should take rest but please do try coming to the party." She looks at Durga Prasad, nodding while clenching onto her bag and Sanjay stares at Lakshya, trying to figure out what was playing on his mind.
*
Ragini was heading outside the office.
"Ragini. . ." She stops, turning around to see Sanjay walk towards her. "Well done." She smiles at him and the two start walking towards the gate.
"Do you need a lift?"
"No, I'm fine thanks."
"Are you sure?" She nods and then he asks "Did you know Lakshya was a Maheshwari?" She shakes her head, thinking about it.
"Oh so he used you. . ." Ragini creased her forehead and turns her head towards Sanjay.
"What do you mean?"
"I mean. . . He did this just to save his house." Sanjay utters and Ragini realises all the nice behaviour towards her was just so he could present the presentation and save his house.
"Okay, I got to go but take care." He says and she nods while thinking, he rushes back inside.
"So he used me just for his own selfish reasons. I knew it! No wonder he was sweet as a sugar." She sighed, shaking her head in disbelief while exiting through the gates.
*
"Yeahh, I was scared but I managed to do it." Lakshya says while talking on the phone. "I never imagined to do so much for her just so I could win this deal, I never served my own mum like I served her today. Uff." He adds with a sigh.
"No, she doesn't know I was behind that and it's better if she doesn't. But everyone found out I'm a Maheshwari because of my stupid emotions."
Lakshya disconnects the call instantly, seeing Durga Prasad stand at the door as he was sat in the cafeteria.
Lakshya stands up and Durga Prasad walks inside the cafeteria. "I just wanted to say. . ."
"Before you say anything, know that I only did this for my bedroom. I surely didn't want to roam on the roads homeless." Lakshya interrupted and Durga Prasad stares at him.
He releases a small sigh, continuing to have the tension "Adarsh's alliance is fixed. That's all I wanted to say." Durga Prasad utters, walking away and Lakshya looks on.
**
Swara and Parvati had reached home and Parvati looks at Swara, who was walking while her mind was disturbed. She swallows and inhales a deep breath, stopping Swara and standing in front of her.
"Nothing will happen." Parvati assures and Swara slowly looks at her, hugging her and Parvati hugs her back.
"Daadi please don't tell Ragini." Swara utters in a cracky voice and then starts breaking down, crying vigorously.
"Shhh, nothing will happen to you, understood!" Parvati warns but fails to keep herself strict, the tears seep down her eyes and she sniffs, hugging Swara tight.
Ragini enters and pulls her key out, closing the door and hearing the door, Parvati and Swara break the hug, staring at Ragini walk inside. Ragini looks at the two, raising her eyebrows to question what happened.
Seeing their tears had soon concerned her and she rushes towards them. "What happened? Why are you two crying?"
Swara and Parvati wipe their tears and Swara shakes her head "Nothing."
"If nothing happened then why are you crying?"
"I. . . I got fired from my job."
"What! But why?"
"I don't know." Swara lies, continuing to wipe her tears and Ragini looks at Parvati. "And something went in my eyes, I just came back from the temple, there was a lot of dust outside and from the past 10 minutes I'm telling her not to cry but she isn't listening, it's just a job, she can get a new right." Parvati lies, trying to make it seem real and walks towards the table, placing her bag on it.
"And it's not like the worlds ending." Parvati adds, picking the plates up.
Though Ragini wasn't convinced with Parvati's lie, Swara's lie had managed to convince her and she looked back at Swara. "Why did they fire you?"
"Because I missed the biggest event yesterday and they said they have no room for an unprofessional, I didn't even inform them so they replaced me, who does this?" Swara asks, faking to cry with real tears and Ragini hugs her, calming her down.
"Shhh. Don't cry Swara and forget such a job, they don't deserve a talented person like you and Daadimaa is right, there are other jobs out here that are waiting for your talent." Ragini consoles and Swara hugs her back, tightening it and looking at Parvati, who blinks at her and Swara nods at her to thank her.
"Now enough of your Drama! Come and have lunch and Laado, you're back early?" Swara and Ragini break the hug and Swara wipes her tears while Ragini turns to Parvati.
"Daadimaa, I don't feel well. . . I drank the coffee there and now I have an upset stomach." She revealed with a frown and Parvati nodded.
"Go freshen up and I'll make you turmeric milk." Parvati utters and Ragini nods. "You go too." Swara nods at Parvati and both Swara Ragini head to their rooms.
Parvati folds her hands and closes her eyes, "Thakur Ji, bless my family and please cure Swara and protect Ragini."
Parvati feels like someone has jinxed their family, that's why the happiness is slowly fading and she continues to pray day and night just to hope for the best.
***
It was evening and the Maheshwari Men enter their house. Lakshya separates as soon as he enters and heads towards his room while Adarsh, Sanskaar, Ram and Durga Prasad head downstairs, seeing the workers decorating the mansion with party lights.
"Ji, you didn't tell us why we're throwing a party." Annapurna utters after seeing Durga Prasad walk down and Sujata turns, facing them after directing a worker for the food.
"Maa, Lakshya cracked the deal with Mr Khurana and saved us from bankruptcy." Annapurna looks at Adarsh and Sujata curls a wide grin.
"What? Really! Lakshya did that?" Sujata asks and the men nod.
"We thought we will loose the deal but he, him and Ragini worked on it together and presented it so well that Mr Khurana was impressed." Sanskaar says and Sujata and Annapurna scrunch their eyebrows.
"Ragini?" They two question at the same time and Adarsh decides to answer.
"Lakshya's colleague and an intern."
"Ohh."
"Lakshya only did it to save this house, he had no intentions in making us proud." Durga Prasad sternly reveals, not allowing anyone to get further happy, wanting them to meet the truth.
*
"Finally!" He exclaimed, jumping on his bed and closing his eyes peacefully. "I love you." He confesses and rubs his hand on the mattress, he then opens his eyes and stands up, running towards his wardrobe. "My baby." He says and kisses his wardrobe.
"I would never imagine my life without you." He utters, spreading his hand while turning around his room in a circle, referring his words to his whole bedroom.
He stops and his eyes fall on his bathroom door. "Ahh! Just let the jacuzzi come then I'll worship you bathroom."
Lakshya was behaving crazy, but we can't blame him, he loves his bedroom like hell, a day without his bed for him would similarly be like his soul captured by demons, he knew for sure that his soul will never connect with another human being but little does he know that everyone has a soulmate and his soulmate is here!
He heads back towards his wardrobe and opens it, taking his comfy clothes out, totally forgetting about the party cause he knew once he wears his comfy clothes, he wouldn't come out of his bed.
**
Ragini was sitting on the sofa in the hall, flicking through channels while watching TV whereas Swara was sleeping in her room and Parvati was sat on the dining table reading the Ramayana.
Ragini remembered about the party invitation and palms her forehead, though she doesn't want to go, she's considering it to make a final choice.
"Daadimaa, remember the deal I told you about that we won because of my presentation?"
"Hmmm." Parvati hums while reading.
"The boss of the company, Mr Maheshwari had invited me to a party this evening to celebrate its success. Should I go?"
"It's up to you." Parvati responds, closing the book while putting her forehead on it for respect.
"If I do go then you have to come with me."
"No, I don't want to go."
"Come on Daadimaa, please. . . If you don't go then I'm not going too."
"Then don't go because I'm not going. These parties aren't for me, you youngsters enjoy."
"Daadimaa, you're not even that old." Ragini innocently utters, turning around to see her grandma, "Yes, your clothes style makes you look old otherwise from your face, you look quite young."
"Stop this buttering because my decision won't change. I'm not coming."
Ragini frowns, making her choice "Fine, I'm not going either."
"Okay." Parvati says, covering the book with the red cloth and walking towards the small built in temple, placing it on the shelf.
Parvati turns towards Ragini and takes her reading glasses off. "Go to bed because I'm tired now so I'll be resting in my room."
Ragini nods and Parvati heads towards her room, Ragini turns back around. Switching the TV off, she drops the controller on the sofa and heads towards her room too as she had nothing fun or interesting to watch on TV.
To Be Continued. . .
