THIS PART IS ABOUT THE PAST OF VISHWAMITRA AND ITS NOT A PART OF RAGHUVAMSHA CHARITHAM BUT I FELT THE NEED OF ADDING IT TOO . SO HERE U GO WITH THE STORY .....

There was a king by name KUSHANABA , a powerful king of KUSHA DYNASTY . His father KUSHA was a special creation of LORD BRAHMA who possessed the knowledge of Vedas and other powers . Kushanaba being his son inherited his father's intelligence . Kushanaba was a righteous king and ruled his kingdom successfully .

Later he got married to a Damsel of PURUKUTSA DYNASTY and she gave birth to a son and a daughter named GADHI and SATYAVATHI respectively . Satyavathi later married a Brahmin named RUCHIKA . They remained childless for many years and hence they performed a sacrificial fire and prayed for a son with qualities of Brahmin to Lord Brahma . He also pleased by the devotion of the couple blessed them with two blessings one with the qualities of Brahmin to Satyavathi and the other with the quality of KSHATHRIYAS to Satyavathi'mother . But Gadhi insisted of exchanging their blessings and they exchanged it . Hence Gadhi and Satyavathi gave birth to VISHVAMITHRA [ King Kaushika ] , a Kshatriya with the qualities of a Brahmin and JAMADAGINI [Father of Parasurama ] , a Brahmin with the qualities of a Kshatriya respectively .

King Kaushika ruled the whole earth for more than thousands of years and as a Kshtriya king has killed many other kings in the wars . He was a very powerful and a cruel king who destroyed many lives .

Once he and his soldiers while travelling in the forest felt tired and hence took rest in the hermitage of the Sage Vasishta . Kaushika was surprised by the way Vasishta tackled to serve his hundreds of soldiers of  with ease and hence he asked him how he managed to serve them . Vasishta replied that because of the blessings of DIVINE CALF NANDINI ,he could fulfil the needs of them . Kaushika being a greedy king tried to attain Nandini though Vasishta politely refused him . He kept on pestering him but he did not accepted . Kaushika became angry and   ordered his soldiers to seize the calf but Vasishta protected the the calf by using his supernatural powers .

Then in order to achieve an equal position to Vasishta he changed his name to Vishwamitra and did a sever penance to become a BRAHMARISHI . Initially he achieved a title MAHARISHI and RAJARISHI . Once during his penance Lord Indra sent an apsara by name MENAKA to seduce him and he also gets attracted to her and lives with her for 10 year.

They had a girl shakuntala [ mother of Emperor BHARATHA - Ancient name of India ] . He did not accepted Menaka and Shankunthala as his wife and child respectively and cursed  her of loosing her beauty in her next birth to  for wasting his time of penance  .

He continued his penance for many years and again Lord Indra sent Rambha to seduce him but this time he cursed her to change into a rock and later by facing many challenges to become a Brahmarishi giving up his greed to possess the cow and at last he earned the title BRAHMARISHI from the sage VASISHTA .
