STORY OF APSARA MADHURA

Once a upon a time an APSARA named MADHURA visited MOUNT KAILASH . Madhura tried to seduce Lord shiva in the absence of Goddess Parvathi . She started conniving Lord Shiva in clandestine coitus . Later Goddess Parvathi arrives to Kailash and the scene in front of her made her boil in anger . She saw Lord Shiva's Bhasma ( vibhuthi - a sacrificial white powder ) applied all over Madhura's body . She being furious cursed Madhura to turn into a frog and live inside a well for the next twelve years . Later Madhura apologises for her act and hence Parvati reduces the curse saying that she would be back to her original form after twelve years of strict penance.

AFTER TWELVE YEARS

A King of ASURAS named MAYASURAS and his wife HEMA had two sons MAYAVI and DUNDUBHI .But the couple longed for a daughter too and hence they decided to do severe Penance .

Meanwhile Madhura's curse came to an end and she turned into her original form . She was drowning in the well and was struggling to breath inside the water . She shouted for help and the Asura couple who were in their penance heard the sound and rushed towards the sound . They saw Madhura fighing for her life and rescued her from the well .

Later they adopted Madhura as their own daughter and renamed her as MANDODARI . Once Ravana visited Mayasura's Palace and he falls for Mandodari's beauty and asks for her hand in marriage to Mayasura . Mayasura refuses this and hence Ravana threatens him and forcefully marries Mandodari . Mandodari also accepts for the marriage as Ravana was a great devotee of Lord Shiva . Mandodari got married to Ravana and she gave birth to three sons , MEGANADA , ATIKAYA , AKSHAYAKUMAR .

Ravana continued doing sins by destroying the lives of many girls by harassing them phisically and also killing the sages . Mandodari disliked these acts of her husband and tried warning him as he was heading towards his own destruction. She made all efforts to guide him towards righteous path but failed miserably .

AFTER 7 YEARS

Fed up with her husband's sins she decided to commit sucide and hence she drank the blood of the sages kept in the pots. Ravana used to collect the blood of the sages who has the fruit of their penance after killing them . Once a sage was doing penance in order to get a daughter in the form of GODDESS LAKSHMI . After he got the fruit of his penance he was killed by Ravana and he collected his blood too .

Now Mandodari had drank the same blood while trying to commit suicide . Later Mandori bore pregnancy and gave birth to a girl . But the astrologer of Lanka told Mandodari that the baby would be the reason for the death of Ravana and hence she orders her servants to kill that baby in a far place . But eventually the servants did not kill that baby but kept it in a box and buried under ground far away from Lanka (MITHILA ) .

IT IS SAID THAT SITA IS 8 TEARS YOUNGER THAN LORD RAMA .
