Chapter 3

Adia's fingers danced gracefully across the keys; notes rang out at her sweet touch. She hummed along to the song, allowing the world go fade away into music. Music was something that Adia cherished, something that she held close to her heart, almost as close as her own family.

Music was her family. It cared for her. It was there any time she needed it. It comforted her. It gave her energy. It calmed her. It made her happy. All that she had to do was press a "play" button. Or a few piano keys. Or hum the tune. Music was something that no one could take away from her. It was something that stayed with a person for forever.

Before long, Adia's piano lessons were over. When she arrived back at home, she immediately picked up her favorite book, The Book Thief, and began to read. She curled up on her couch and allowed herself to fade away into its words, like she had her music not much earlier.

"Eli! Hey, man!" Andy called after the boy, who was running up to him with a large box full of supplies stacked so high that they almost covered his face. "So great to see you! So, what did you get?"

Eli pulled out all of the ingredients and other materials. Andy nodded as he picked up every item, giving a smile.

"This is great. This is great!" He held up his hand. "High five, buddy!"

For the next hour, they worked on the tea and lemonade, along with the help of the sink, microwave, and table in the Ronnie's Music break room. The store was always closed on the weekends, so Andy didn't have to worry about being in someone's way. Luckily, he had his own key.

They also worked on a sign. Andy had brought poster board and a handful of markers. They both drew, although Andy made sure Eli did most of it, a sign to announce their sale. Once everything was done, they hung up the sign and sat behind their table proudly, waiting for their first customer.

It only took five minutes.

"Hello," a middle-aged man said. "I've been driving around all day, and I'm thirsty. You have anything I can get to drink?"

"Of course!" Eli grinned, jumping up and down.

"Ah, let's see." The man read their sign. "Lemonade and tea, huh? Like Snapple? Cool."

"Yeah, but separate," Andy said. "But hey! That's a great idea! We can offer lemonade, tea, or both!"

"Brilliant." The man smiled, then bought several of each drink. He tried different concoctions, blending different amounts of each drink, as well as drinking separately. "I'm pretty sure my thirst is quenched after all this drinking. I imagine seeing myself in the bathroom in the near future." They all laughed. "Excellent drinks you have there. Well worth my money. I'll be sure I spread the word."

"Thank you, sir."

"No. Thank you."
