The group quickly worked to set up the kegs of beer at the Boneyard, and before long, word had already spread about the impromptu beach party.
The party-goers ranged from the rich teens from Figure Eight, the delinquents from The Cut, and the tourons, aka the tourists who were simply on the island for vacation.
Eli was currently sitting around a campfire with Kie, her eyes constantly drifting towards the blonde Maybank boy who was happily flirting with the pretty tourists who had no concept of what a pogue was.
The girl looked down into the red solo cup she was holding, before impulsively downing the contents.
“Damn, girl, what's wrong with you?” Kie questioned with a light laugh. “You don't look like someone who's having a good time at a party.”
“Nothing's wrong,” Eli replied as she forced a smile on her face, her eyes betraying her as they wandered back to JJ. “Just thinking.”
“Are you jealous?”
Eli's head snapped towards Kiara, who had a mischievous glint in her eyes.
“Je.. jealous? Why would I be jealous? Jealous of what.. exactly?” she trailed off as Kie raised her brow at her.
“I'm not gonna beat around the bush here,” the girl stated as she fully turned to face Eli. “Do you like JJ? As in a romantic way not a friendship way?”
“I..” Eli began, pulling her knees to hug them against her chest. The girl nodded after a few moments, unable to look Kie in the eyes.
“Eli, why don't you just tell him?” Kie questioned as she rested a comforting hand against Eli's knee. “You look so sad whenever he's giving his attention to another girl.”
“The rule..” Eli trailed off, to which Kiara scoffed.
“Fuck the rule, just tell him. Maybe you'll have a chance.”
Eli shook her head. “I don't have a chance. I actually think he has more of a thing for you,” she mumbled, absentmindedly drawing shapes in the sand. “Even today he was-” the girl stopped, forcing a smile on her face. “Forget it, I'm just gonna try and bury this deep down. I'll get over it eventually, I'm sure.”
Kiara suddenly sighed loudly, before pulling herself to her feet. “Alright, this won't do. Lemme get something stronger for us. We’re gonna get absolutely plastered tonight.”
“Yes, ma’am,” Eli responded with a salute as she watched Kie walk away.
The pink-haired girl held out her hands towards the fire, the flames pleasantly warming up her hands.
“Oh. My. God. Is that Ellie Valentine in the flesh?”
Eli scowled as she turned around. “Do not call me-” the girl dropped her jaw as her eyes fell on the blonde boy standing behind her. “Ollie?!” she exclaimed as she scrambled to her feet. “Oh my god, hey!”
Oliver King laughed as Eli launched herself into his arms, gently wrapping his arms around her middle and lifting her into the air. “Hey there,” he greeted with a large smile as he set her back down. “I'm finally home.”
“Wow,” she breathed out, stumbling slightly due to how much alcohol she had consumed. “Sorry, I'm a little tipsy.”
“I can see that.” The boy helped the girl sit down, before taking a seat next to her. “How's it going? Any progress on your love life?”
Eli snorted as she threw a stick into the flames. “What love life?”
Ollie let out a low whistle. “Damn. That bad?”
“Yeahh..” she trailed off, reaching into a bag of chips before realising it was empty. “You're kidding me,” she muttered. “I need to find more snacks, do you wanna come with?”
“Yeah, why not,” he laughed as he helped Eli to her feet.
The two made their way up the stairs to get out of the Boneyard, with Eli drunkenly giggling and apologising every time she stumbled and almost fell.
Across the Boneyard stood JJ Maybank, both hands holding onto cups of beer as he watched Eli's interaction with a kook male that he had never seen before. His grip on the cups tightened slightly as he watched the boy guide Eli out of the Boneyard, gaze specifically directed at the hand resting on her lower back.
He hated himself for feeling jealous. He had no right.
“Hey, you good?”
The blonde loosened his grip on the cups, turning to find John B staring at him with a raised brow.
“Yeah,” the blonde responded, quickly downing both cups of beer. “Why wouldn't I be?” he questioned, messily wiping his mouth with the back of his hand.
After finally acquiring her snacks from a street vendor down the street, Eli and Ollie finally made their way back to the Boneyard.
The atmosphere seemed to have shifted in the brief time they had been away, and the girl couldn't help but feel alarmed.
“What the hell is going on,” Eli exclaimed as she rushed down the stairs followed by Ollie, suddenly sobering up as she heard the sounds of the party-goers cheering on a fight.
“Move!” she exclaimed, dropping her snacks and pushing her way through the crowd, gasping in shock as her eyes fell on Topper, who was holding John B under the water. “Oh my god, why are you all watching!” Eli yelled as she ran towards them, reaching to grab Topper's arms. “Get off him, Topper!”
The kook boy's arm suddenly swung back in an attempt to shake her off, only for the back of his hand to collide with Eli's jaw.
Eli's head snapped to the side, her body stumbling back as she registered the pain coursing through her skull and neck.
“Ellie!” “Oh my god, Eli!” “El!”
Eli's head began to spin, the girl falling onto her back onto the sand in her dizzied state. With the combination of alcohol in her veins, Eli Valentine was not in a good state.
Kie rushed to pull Eli into her arms, one hand reaching to hold her face where the impact occurred. “Somebody get a can from the cooler!” she exclaimed, causing Eli to wince at the sudden increase in volume.
“Here!”
Kie looked up to find Ollie holding out a can, a look of confusion on her face. “Oliver?” she questioned as she grabbed the ice cold can, pressing it to Eli’s jaw. If it wasn't for the consistent groans of pain, Kie would've thought she had completely knocked out.
“Hey, Kiara,” Ollie greeted as they crouched around a barely conscious Eli. “Long time no see.”
“Yeah, I guess,” Kie trailed off.
“Oh my god, he's got a gun!”
Eli groaned as she tried to sit up, still dizzy from the combination of pain and alcohol. “Kie, stop him,” she mumbled, to which the girl nodded before getting up.
“JJ! Put the gun down!” Sarah Cameron yelled in fear.
“Did you say something, princess?!” The blonde boy yelled, pushing Topper's head down with the gun.
“Kie!” Sarah called out. “Can you check on your psycho friend, please?!”
“Okay, everyone, listen up!” JJ yelled as he withdrew the gun and pointed it in the air. “Get the hell off our side of the island!”
Eli widened her eyes as JJ unloaded two bullets into the air, the sound painfully vibrating in her eardrums.
“We need to get out of here before the cops inevitably arrive! ” Pope exclaimed, to which Kiara nodded.
“Pope, you help John B to the twinkie, I'll help Eli.”
“I've got her,” Ollie nodded as he reached down, only for JJ to swoop in instead, one arm moving under Eli’s back and one under her knees as he lifted her towards his chest.
“Ookay,” Ollie trailed off, watching as the pogues scrambled to get out of the boneyard. “What an event,” he mumbled to himself, making a beeline for his parked motorcycle.
