006 ↠ Crappy movies
"We need better internet. I've been trying to watch a movie on Netflix for over an hour but it keeps buffering"
"The internet is not the problem" Ophelia spoke as she opened a small orange pill bottle "it's your crappy movie choices" she poured a small white pill onto her palm and closed the bottle.
"Excuse me, but my movie choices are top notch. Ten ten quality content" Romeo took his eyes off the buffering Netflix and over at his friend and roommate.
Ophelia scoffed "yeah right" she placed the pill in her mouth and swallowed it down with water.
The movie Romeo is trying to watch, loaded and began to play. He smiled and turned to the tv, only for it to buffer again ten seconds later.
"Oh, come on!" He groaned and sunk in the couch.
Ophelia giggled "told you" she set the pills aside and grabbed her open laptop from the table before sitting down on the other end of the couch.
"Work, Netflix, work" Romeo begged at the television but it stayed at 25%.
"Your movie choices are such crap, not even Netflix wants to play them" Ophelia snickered as she scrolled through trash articles in the internet.
"Land of the Lost is a great movie!" Romeo told Ophelia.
"I lost a thousand brain cells watching that movie!" She turned to him.
"And what did we learn from that great movie?"
"Gay show tunes save the day" Ophelia answered "its a stupid, trash movie. But its a great trash movie. Still better than SHARKNADO!"
"It's in honor of shark week! I'm going to put all my shark knowledge to good use" Romeo informed "I mean I would if Netflix lets me watch it" he muttered and faced the tv.
Ophelia smiled small and shook her head. She turned back to her computer and sighed.
It's been a couple years since the New York incident. A couple years since Ophelia met Romeo, the young man who has the same gift as her. After she found out that he's been on his own for a while, that he has no family, Ophelia decided to let Romeo live with her. She thought it would be best seeing that she reluctantly agreed to teach him how to be a Silvertongue.
She didn't go back to reading, she didn't go back to how her life used to be before she changed. Ophelia still hates her gift, still thinks that its a curse. She stayed away from books, but for Romeo to be able to practice and understand, her once book free apartment now had books, all Romeo's. For a time only.
The young man has seen how the book voices affect Ophelia, how she covers he ears and yells at them to be quiet. He's seen, since the beginning, her distaste for being a Silvertongue, yet she somewhat put that aside to teach him how to control it. He's grateful for that. He's grateful to her because she helped him when she didn't really have too. She had no obligation, they had literally just met, but she helped him.
The least Romeo could do was to not keep books in the apartment. At the beginning it was tough, Romeo needed books to practice but since Ophelia doesn't have any in her home, the young man got books from the library. They started off small, they started with children books, the same books Ophelia read when she was starting off. But as Romeo began to get better, he didn't keep books at home anymore...well he tried. He kept them hidden away from Ophelia and since he hasn't seen her being terrorized by the voices from the books, he kept them hidden.
Romeo let out a heavy sigh and threw his head back "Netflix won this round. I shall not be watching Sharknado today"
"Your one brain cell can rest" Ophelia commented as she continued to read the trash articles online.
"Excuse me, but who here is reading trash articles online? Those are nothing but made up stories" Romeo told Ophelia.
"Well we can both agree that we lose more brain cells than an average human on a daily basis"
"How are we still living?" Romeo questioned.
"I've been asking myself the same question since the aliens attacked. All that crazy shit happening. Iron Man, Captain America in D.C., Thor in London" Ophelia listed off "someone needs to get those guys under control or they will be the end of us"
"I don't know, I mean, they have protected us a lot. Iron Man with Mandarin, Captain America from whatever was that thing, what was it, hydraulic?" Romeo said unsurely.
"Hydra" Ophelia corrected, her attention on what she's reading online.
"Yeah, that. Thor with those alien ships in London. But I do see your point. They fight, they defeat the bad guy, they save the day but they destroy cities. I mean how long did it take for us to be able to walk around the city again?"
"A long time" Ophelia murmured, half listening to what he's saying "what do you think of this?" She pointed at the screen of her computer. Romeo scooted over and took a look at the screen.
"Aliens broke into my house" he read the headline "why have I read wilder headlines than this?"
"Because you have. So, what do you think?" Ophelia asked the young man.
"I don't know, I mean..." He bit his bottom lip and shrugged "it could be. Where was this?"
"Brooklyn"
"Brooklyn?" He repeated.
"Okay, well how about this one?" Ophelia clicked on another article.
"That one is a fake" Romeo quickly said.
"What? Why?" Ophelia asked.
"Bigfoot? Really?"
"Oh, you don't believe in bigfoot? Not even with what we can do? Talk about a hypocrite"
"Yeah, whatever" Romeo scoffed, not wanting to argue with Ophelia. He got up and decided to put a movie in the DVD player since Netflix isn't working "do you think he's there?"
"With bigfoot? No" Ophelia sighed "Brooklyn? No. But, Texas, maybe"
"What's in Texas?" Romeo looked up from the ground where's he's sitting and going through the many movies they own.
Ophelia didn't answer and instead grabbed her phone and called someone. Romeo furrowed his eyebrows as Ophelia stood up and walked around the apartment. He shook his head and looked back down at the movies in his hands. He continued to go through them and finally settled on one.
"Yes!" he smiled and placed the disc in the DVD player.
Romeo sat on the couch and skipped to the main menu and pressed play. The movie began and he could hear Ophelia talking to someone on the phone. By her tone of voice, he can already tell who she's talking to.
"You can tell she's a princess, she doesn't need a crown. You can tell she's a princess, she'll turn the world around. You can see it in her style. You can see it in her smile" The song came from the tv.
Ophelia walked by and took a look at the television. She put her phone down and sighed.
"Why am I not surprised?" She asked him.
"Everyone needs a good Barbie movie in their life. For me, its Barbie Princess Charm School" Romeo answered. Ophelia didn't say anything as she brought her phone back up and continued talking.
The movie was barely getting started, it was a couple minutes in, when there was a knock at the door.
"Today is not my day" Romeo sighed as he stood up and padded to the door "I can't watch a movie on Netflix and apparently I can't watch Barbie" he reached for the door and his hand hovered over the doorknob for a second "why do we have Barbie movies?"
Without further question, he grabbed hold of the doorknob and swung the door open. He saw two people standing on the other side of the door. A man with an eye patch and a woman.
"No thanks, I already found Jesus" he went to close the door but a hand stretched out and held it open "fine, Jesus found me. Happy?"
"We're looking for Ophelia Verona. Is she here?" The woman asked Romeo.
"You are?" Romeo asked the woman.
"The question here is, who are you?" She eyed the young man.
"I-" Romeo didn't get to speak because he found himself pushed away from the door. Ophelia took his place and held the door with one hand, closing it so only she can be seen.
"What are you doing here?" She quickly asked.
"Verona" Nick Fury began.
"No. I said no the first time and it's still no today"
"Wait, what's happening? Do you know these people?" Romeo tried to get into the conversation but Ophelia pushed him back.
"Who's he?" Agent Hill motioned to Romeo who managed to pop his head through a gap.
Ophelia looked down and saw Romeo's head sticking under her arm "no one" she tried to push him back but he held his place.
"I live here. Who are you?" Romeo asked the two people standing at the door. A thought crossed his mind and he gasped "are you with him? Are you here to drag us to the dark side? I will not be easily persuaded! Well unless you have cookies, then sure, I'll join the dark side"
Ophelia smacked Romeo on the head and he winced and pulled back. He stood up straight and rubbed his head.
"Him? Who are you talking about?" Agent Hill questioned.
Romeo pulled the door open "K-"
"What do you want?" Ophelia cut Romeo off and stared at Hill and Fury.
"We need you" Fury told her.
"No" she quickly shook her head.
"You don't understand" Hill began.
"I don't want to understand"
"Verona-" Nick spoke up.
"I said no! No! No! No!" She shouted before turning on her heel and walking away.
Romeo watched Ophelia march to her room and slammed the door closed. He turned to the people at the door.
"If you're not with him then who are you?" He asked them.
Fury and Hill shared a look before facing Romeo "do you know about Ophelia?" Fury asked.
"What do you mean?" They didn't say anything but somehow that was enough for him to understand what they mean "how do you know?"
"Get out of the way" Fury practically pushed Romeo to the side and entered the apartment "get out of your damn room, Verona!"
"Sorry about this" Hill apologized to Romeo as she too entered and closed the door behind her "but this is important"
