Chapter Three
There was a lot of talking around the room. It didn't surprise me, crowding as much of the school into one room was going to be noisy.
It was hard to ignore the sound, even backstage, fixing my wig with a worried sigh.
"Brings back old memories doesn't it?" Kyle said warmly.
I nodded, straightening my clothes, "it does."
"Why don't you seem happy then?"
"The guy I was with this morning?" I started, "he goes to this school."
Kyle immediately recognized my worry, "I'm sure if he found out, things would still be fine, so don't fret too much."
"Thanks Kyle."
I was more worried that if others found out, they'd be disappointed in me. At least Kyle's words were a temporary assurance.
I reached under my seat and grabbed my shoes, yanking them on and getting to my feet; glad that I was slightly taller than before.
"Oh he always wondered why you use brown contacts, don't you want to show off your eyes a bit?"
"No, not really."
He shrugged, "all right. Anyways, you'll be up in a minute or two, so I'd head there now."
With a curt nod, I headed out of the room we were using and towards the main area. The headmaster noticed me and waved me over.
"It's been forever Marcus!" He exclaimed quietly.
I smiled at him, "it feels good to be back. Thanks for inviting me."
"The students will excited to have you here. It's not every day a student here becomes a superstar."
"I wouldn't," I laughed, "take it that far."
The headmaster was a younger guy, and we had gotten along quite well. I always got sent to the headmaster's office for bs reasons, and this, I became good friends with him after I graduated. He was the only one besides my manger and editor who knew about my job. Even Heather didn't know.
It was hard keeping a secret. She knew I was a writer, but not about me being a singer. She thought I knew Kyle through Rachel.
Besides the point, the headmaster had asked me to come to cheer up the students a bit. I'd tell stories and answer question and such. I would perform a song or two at the end and be on my merry way.
The headmaster had this salt and pepper hair and kind blue eyes with freckles everywhere. If I wasn't Connor-sexual, I'd probably be attracted to him. He was only thirty four after all.
His name was also King which I found cool.
"Ah, I have to welcome the students. We have to catch up a bit after this."
"That would be great, I got a lot to talk to you about."
King smiled and walked onstage towards the mic that was there. I leaned against the wall and watched, waiting.
"Welcome students. I hope you'll all ready to meet today's guest speaker!"
Everyone just mummered, probably expecting some boring guy or gal to come in to talk about school or some shit.
"Come on, I thought you'd be more excited. Well, that's fine. Today's guest is a bit of a legend around the school, in my eyes at least. I think he was in my office because of some scam almost all the time. Please Welcome Hero Maker!"
I laughed at the way he pronounced my name and walked on stage, seeing immediate shock in the students' faces as reached King.
I decided to show just how cool king was by doing our secret handshake, grabbing the mic from him as he stood next to me, smugly smiling at the students.
"Hi! Nice being here! When King asked me to be here, I couldn't say no. You have no idea how good you guys have it."
The shock was still affecting the students, so I sat in the chair set up for me and first bumped king who left the stage.
"Now, I think you all know me, but in case you don't, I'm Hero Maker, a rising star in the idol world I suppose. I went to this college a couple years back and Graduated a couple years back. I'm twenty five, technically single and not as asexual as I though. Hi, nice to meet you."
A student apparently was still shocked, "how the fuck-"
"How about I start with a story?"
Silence. I smiled.
"So, when I was about... nineteen I think, so, my junior year, I was in the school library when the campus police just rushed in and frantically started looking for me. Apparently, someone didn't like me that much and threw a shit ton of weed in my bag. Luckily for me, my fingerprints weren't on it, but the person who put it in there? His were all over it. Still, I got sent to the headmaster's office and I think we spent an hour in there discussing Pokémon. I kid you not, I still vividly remember how we argued which gen starter was the best. He said charmander and I said Torchick. So you, your headmaster is a nerd."
I glanced back at king who was laughing to himself.
"Honestly, I never got in trouble since I never did anything wrong, but I got a kick ass friend from it. Another time I was accused of pumping people out, gross, and he literally just told them to search my room. What they found was literally anti-evidence. My roommate however, was arrested because they were pumping their girlfriend out. So, they got the wrong person. Don't fret, this school is great, I was just surrounded by weirdos."
When they were still just staring at me in shock, I went for a fun one.
"This one time, my best friend and I were walking the campus and a guy came up and hit on her, that guy now being the guy she's getting married to. Still, he looked genuinely attracted to her and she looked at me and was screaming help me. It didn't help I already knew him. I had to awkwardly tell him that she wasn't interested and then he turned around and asked me out for a drink to drown his worries and it was a weird day. It didn't help that that same day I walked into a bar that my friend would end up owning later in life. It was the worst thing to look at. I didn't drink since I was under age, but these guys kept sliding me drinks that I shoved on over to my friend. He got wasted and I had to drag his sorry ass home. On the way, I ran into my best friend and well, from there, I have no idea how they became a couple."
I heard a couple chuckles here and there. So...
"Alright, I see you are all still stunned, so how about this, why not ask me some questions? The school website has a temporary ask box that I'm reading from, so feel free to ask your questions."
I watched as thousands of students scrambled for their phones. It was nice to see.
I quickly pulled up the ask box and saw the questions roll in.
"Have I ever had sex? If so, when was the first time?" I laughed at that, "funny you ask. Yes, last night. Been quite the week."
I looked over more questions.
"Am I dating anyone? God, I hope they think we're dating. I gave them my number for a reason."
Next question
"Why am I friends with the headmaster? Guys, he's super chill. We went drinking together for my twenty first birthday, he's such a cool guy."
Next question
"Why did you start a relationship?" I paused, flushing a little, "honestly, I don't know. I just know I was talking with my friend, my eyes locked with his and boom I was interested. I don't believe in Love at first sight, but I might have to reconsider."
Next question
"Why did you start music? Well, simple, your headmaster encouraged me to do so. I was singing in his office one day after the usual 'I'm blamed for everything' time and I was singing to a song on the radio and he just stopped me and went, 'you have a great voice, you should be a singer. Seriously.' And well, he helped me find a record label willing to hear me and bam here I am. Again I say, you have no idea how good you guys have it."
Everyone couldn't quite believe that King was as cool as I was saying he was, but I had no reason to lie, and I wasn't. He got me into this career and got Kyle to be my manager, somehow. Next question
"When was your first kiss?" I flushed again, "also last night. I thought I was ace until yesterday night. Was yesterday night something. My coworkers walked into my house to deliver some news and my hopefully boyfriend walked out and asked to use the shower. Hard to explain the new person when everyone knows you as ace."
Next question
A heat flushed harshly on my face and I had to look away from my phone, seeing a message from Connor, "I forgot he went to this school," I mumbled into the mic. that made everyone look around furiously. I spotted Connor in the crowd and he was just looking at me, awkwardly, smiling. "He simply asked if it was me, and yeah. We can talk about it later, that's another person who knows what I look like normally."
With that aside Next question.
"What's your sexuality? Well, I'm not sure anymore. I'm very into this guy though and he might as well be my new sexuality." I wasn't aware of everyone's eyes on me, well, not in the way that they were. I was smiling like a fool, and they saw how in love I must've been, even though it had been a day.
Next question
"What was your major? Oh, I was in English. I planned to be a writer and if that didn't go as planned, I wanted to be a teacher, so i have a teaching degree."
This went on for a bit with pretty normal questions among other things.
But the students were getting more comfortable and I was getting to King's goal of pumping up the students.
