Chapter 11: King's summon

Roop’s POV

I tried running as fast as possible carrying little idea where I was actually heading towards. I allowed my heart to navigate me, knowing well that it wouldn't take a wrong decision. My breaths trembled and legs ached as I stood outside the gate of her house.

I knew that this was the most appropriate place for me to seek help, as of now. Maybe everything that had been jumbling upon my mind would find a solution.

I rushed inside the threshold of Ruhani's house to see the happy frame which my best friends were sharing. Both Ruhaani and Manpreet flipped through the pages of an ancient book which showed designs of embroidered bridal attires.

How much  I had craved to be a part of this happy frame! Unfortunately my fate didn't allow me to be so.

Manpreet looked up as her eyes landed on me "Areeh Roop, Der kardia?(Roop why are you late?)"

I quivered reflexively since I died to tell them about the labyrinth I was passing through. Yet I was here for something more important.

“Zafar kaha hai? (Where is Zafar?)” I asked composing my self

“Roop tum teek tho ho (Roop are you ok?)” Ruhani asked worried.

I shook my head negatively.

@The Palace

Zafar’s POV

I walked through the marble pathway of the royal building. Ever since the royal summon reached my ears, my anxious self couldn't help but frame imaginary situations of my confrontation with the King.

And now that I was actually coming in front of him, my palpitations had sky rocketed.

I gestured an aadab to the guard who twisted the large knob of the gate allowing me to enter the royal hallway.

My eyes scrutinized the walls and floors of the antique building with a sense of awe. The walls were painted golden and velvety crimson outline ran through it. The floors were tiled with white marblestone. In short everything here had a royal aura.

I walked up to the King who stood smiling at me as he adjusted himself in the lavish throne upon which he was sitting. His wife was occupying the adjoining the seat which was as even larger with diamonds fit on the handles.
She too passed me a generous smile.

The duo looked adorably in love.
The Queen might have a zillion of enemies but she was lucky enough to have a husband like that who could not only provide her everything that was necessary but also usher her with all the luxuries a girl ever dreams of.

And what did I have to bestow my lady love?Nothing.

I brushed off this thought as I plastered a fake smile and greeted an Adaab

“Zafar....yahi naam hai na tumhara (Zafar......isn’t that your name?)” The king asked me.

I still didn’t know why I have been called by the king like this. I saw his brother Dev walking up and stand besides him.

“Ji Raja saa (Yes your highness)”

“Rani saa ne bathaya mujeh ki kaise aapne bahaduri ki saat unki jaan bachaya (The queen told me how bravely you saved her life)”

“Voh toh hamare farz tha (That was my duty)” I said.

“Hamare liye ladoge? (Will you fight for me?)”

“Ji zaroor Raja sa hukum kijiye (Of course your highness just Oder)”

“Humeh yeh kabar mili hai ki koi Rani saa ko maarne ki koshish kar rahe hai hum caahthe hai ki tum hamare bhai Dev ke saat milkar iss baat hi had tak pohanje aur unn gunekaron ko pakadkr laaye iss kaam karne ka kya keemat lenge aap? (I got the news that some people are trying to kill the queen I want you to work along with my brother Dev find the culprits and bring them here what price will you take in return of this Job?)”

“Ghar.......(house......)” I blurred out as Roop’s face came into my mind.

“Ji kya? (What?)”

“Vaise toh jaan ki koi keemat nehi lagani caahiye, par hume apne saar ki upar ek pakki chatt caahiye toh bass aap hume ekk chotta sa ghar banana ki paisa de dijiye (We should never put a price on someone’s life but I need a good roof over my head so just give me enough money to build a small house)”

“Voh aapko de diya jaayega (That would be given to you)”

“Shukriya (Thank you)”

I said as I imagined me and Roop getting married.

Roop’s POV

“Tum figar mat karo Roop, jaise hi Zafar wapas ayega main usse sab kuch batha doonga (Don’t worry Roop, I will tell Zafar everything as soon as he comes back)” Junaid assured me, but it didn’t calm me down.

“Mujeh bohot daar lag raha hai (I am really scared)”I confessed.

“Hum sabb hai na tumhare saat, hum tumhari shaadi aur kisi se nehi hone denge (We are all with you na, we won’t let anyone else marry you)” Manpreet said.

“Roop abb tumhe chalna caahiye andera ho raha hai (Roop you should leave now it’s getting dark)” Ruhani said.

“Par......(But......)”

“Tum figar mat karo Junaid Zafar se baat kar lega voh dono saat hi rahathe hai na (Don’t worry, Junaid will talk to Zafar they live together right)” Ruhani assured me.

I stood up and slowly walked towards my home.

Zafar’s POV

I was walking towards the grand exit of the palace when I sensed something I suddenly stopped.

“Aayat.......mujeh patha hai ki tum mujeh chup kar dekh rahi ho baahar aavo (Aayat......I know you are stalking me come out)”

Aayat stepped out of a pillar behind me with a embarrassed expression she came and stood in front of me looking down.

“Aayat kithni baar kaha hai maine tumse aise mere peecha mat kiya karo (Aayat how many times have I told you not to follow me like this)”

“Ya allah humne kab pecha kiya aapki? Hum toh yaha kaam karthe hai aap hi aaye the yaha (Oh god when did I follow you, I work here you were the one who came here)”

“Toh iska matlab yeh toh nehi hai na ki aap saare kaam chodkar humko hi goorne lag jaao (But that dosn’t mean that you leave all your work behind and start staring at me)”

“Haan Aayat, aisa kya baat hai Zafar main? (Yes Aayat, what’s so special about Zafar?)” Dev who came there asked.

“Jo baat innme hai voh kisi aur mein nehi, inko dekhkar hume aisa laghta hai ki hume jeene ka vajah mil gayi (what he has is something no one else dose, when I look at him I feel like I got a reason to live)”

I was so shocked listening to what she said. After a moment Aayat realized what she had blurred out, her mouth fell open she covered it with her hands.

“Ya allah yeh kya bol diya humne? (Oh god what did I just say?)”

She ran away from there. I looked at Dev he was equally shocked.

“Poori paagal hai yeh ladki (She is completely crazy)” I said.

“Pyaar main toda paagalpan toh bantha hai (a little craziness is allowed in love)”

“Yeh pyaar isse bhot mehangi padegi (this love is going to cost her)”
Dev smiled.

“Vaise voh galat bhi nehi hai, aap insaan ho bade kamal ke, raja sabh se log na jane kya kya magthe hai, par aapne sirf ek chotta sa ghar manga (She is not wrong by the way, you are a great guy, people ask the king for many great things but you only asked him for a small house)”

“Jiss cheez ki sachmuch zaroorat hai sirf vahi maangni caahiye (we should only ask for the things that we really need)”

“Par ghar hi kyu? (But why a house?)”

“Mohobbat.....hum ek ladki se mohobbat karthe hai par agar usse nikaah karna hai toh kum se kum ek ghar caahiye (love....I love a girl but if I wanna marry her I need at least a house)”

“Tumhare saat kaam karne mein bohot mazaa aayega (It will be really fun working with you)”

I smiled at him as I walked out of there.
