5 - Ways of Communication
By the time Gabe and Sam got back to Sam's college, the sun was starting to get low in the sky. They stopped at the same place Gabe had picked up Sam, near the fountain.
"Well Samsquatch, I guess this is goodbye," Gabe said with a slight smile as he turned to face Sam.
"Oh it's not goodbye," Sam replied, his second actual words to Gabe. Gabe couldn't help his little smile at hearing Sam's voice which he was quickly become addicted to. It took him a few more moments to place the quote.
"Tenth Doctor to Sarah Jane," Gabe said and Sam nodded. "I'm not going to finish that quote, it gets sad." Sam laughed lightly.
They stood there in silence for a few moments, kind of awkwardly.
"Well," Gabe said. "See ya round kiddo." Sam nodded but made no move to leave. Gabe raised an eyebrow at him. "You going to stand there forever?"
Sam shrugged before taking a step forward and pulling Gabe into a hug. Gabe was surprised for a second, before he smiled and wrapped his arms around Sam, pulling him closer.
They stayed like that for a bit longer before Sam did actually have to leave, and he walked away smiling and waving. Gabe smiled as he watched him go, before walking back to his own apartment.

"So?" Charlie asked the moment Gabe walked in the door. "What happened? How'd it go?"
"Jeez Charlie, let me get inside first would you?"
"No. Gimme details now."
"It was great, we had fun...he uh..." Gabe smiled softly. "He talked."
Charlie made a squealing sound. "You mean he actually got past the muteness?"
"Yeah," Gabe said, his smile widening. "He was speaking in quotes, but it helps apparently."
"Oh my god that is so perfect," Charlie squealed. "Seeing as you're a fangirl and everything."
"Last time I checked, I was a guy."
"You check? Don't you have Sam to do that for you?"
Gabe almost choked on air and Charlie was just laughing as he coughed pretty violently. "Don't just say things like that, it's been one date."
"Did ya kiss him?" Charlie asked, leaning on the counter to look at Gabe.
"No," Gabe said. Charlie sighed dramatically. "It was the first date..."
"Plenty of people kiss on the first date."
"Usually people who have had more than one or two conversations beforehand."
"True...what else happened?"
"Do I seriously have to tell you every single detail about my love life?" Gabe asked.
"Yep," Charlie said, and Gabe just sighed.
~~
That night Sam was sitting on his bed, smiling softly to himself. He was thinking about the days events, and the smile he'd gotten from Gabe when he'd actually spoken. He could live for that smile.
Sam pulled out his phone and tried to think of an excuse to text Gabe. He can't think of any actual reason so just settles for saying 'Hi :)'
Minutes later he received a reply saying 'Hey kiddo :)'
Sam smiled down at his phone, and from across the room Kevin looked at him.
"Are you talking to Gabriel?" he asked and Sam nodded happily. "You really like him huh." Sam nodded again. "You ever going to talk to him?"
Sam paused at that. I kinda already did...he signed.
"You what?" Kevin said. "And here I've known you all throughout college."
I just wanted him to know I was trying, Sam signed. I was only quoting tv shows to him anyway.
Kevin nodded. "Good idea there...you ever need any quotes, I can help." Sam laughed softly before looking back at his phone.
Sam: Do you want to go out again sometime?
Gabe: definitely, you choose when and where
Sam: Want to go to the movies? Civil War comes out on Wednesday
Gabe: dude YES!! team cap or team iron man?
Sam: How about team please nobody die?
Gabe: im team bucky but that works too :P
Sam laughed softly at the screen. Kevin just smiled from across the room.
Sam: I have to study now, but I'll check what time the movie's on and text you
Gabe: k samantha :)
Sam: It's Sam.
Gabe: whatever you say samsquatch
Sam gave an amused sigh, before turning to his books that were lying on his bed. He probably should've been studying throughout the day but a golden haired shorty had taken away that chance.
~~
Gabe was smiling happily as he jumped out of his bed in the morning and got ready for his early shift in the day.
"You're unusually happy," Charlie said, leaning casually on the counter in the kitchen, surprising Gabe and making him jump.
"Don't you have your own apartment?" Gabe asked.
"Yeah but that's no fun," Charlie said. "You talked to Sam any more?"
"Oh come on, there are other things to life than my relationship with Sam."
"I repeat. That's no fun."
Gabe rolled his eyes. "We're going to go see Civil War."
"What but who am I supposed to go see it with then?"
"Kevin? I dunno, don't you have other friends?"
"Yeah but I essentially live here, it's easier."
"You're always going on about me getting with someone, what about you?" Gabe leaned forward on the counter, raising an eyebrow at Charlie.
"Find me a girl who's a nerd and swings this way," Charlie said. "Then maybe I'll do something."
"You never ask them," Gabe said.
"Neither do you!" Charlie said. "You had no idea Sam was whatever he is when you asked him out."
"There's this great thing called watching peoples actions and reactions," Gabe said. "You should try it sometime." Charlie gaped.
"I do it all the time," Charlie said. "I can read you like a book."
"But can you read anyone else?"
"I could if I tried."
"Okay then, prove it."
Charlie glared at him. "Fine. I will."

The next day, Sam got out of classes and went and checked what time Civil War would be playing at the movies. He took a picture of the screen and had planned to send it to Gabe, before deciding he could just go down to Fandomania. If Gabe was working that was.
Sam sent him a quick text asking if he was.
Gabe: sure am, you gonna pay a visit?
Sam: Maybe, maybe not :P
He left it at that, and went to grab his keys before leaving his dorm. Kevin was about to go off to his own classes and didn't even question Sam leaving this time.
Sam walked down to Fandomania, already remembering exactly where it was. When he walked in he saw Gabe sitting on the front counter, swinging his legs childishly. Charlie was standing on the other side of the counter, doing something on the computer.
"Sammy!" Gabe said, brightening when Sam walked into the shop. "Was wondering if you'd actually show up."
Your texting grammar is horrible, Sam signed with a smirk. Charlie saw this and started laughing.
"I know right," she said. Gabe just glared at the two of them. "He said you texting grammar sucks."
"Oh it's not that bad," Gabe whined. "It just takes too much time to actually type everything properly." Sam chuckled lightly before going to lean on the counter beside Gabe. Gabe smiled brightly at him and Sam smiled back.
"You guys are so adorable I think I might be sick," Charlie said. "Be glad you're my otp or this would be torturous to me."
"But what about all your fictional ships?" Gabe asked with a smirk. "Don't you ship yourself with Black Widow?"
"Yeah but that can't be canon, you guys are," Charlie said. Gabe smiled kind of sheepishly at that.
Sam pulled out his phone and got up the picture he'd taken of the showing times for Civil War and passed it to Gabe. Gabe looked at it before smirking at Sam.
"You could've just sent this to me," he said. Sam shrugged innocently with a smile. Gabe looked over the times again. "Want to go tomorrow at 7? I'm working during the other times."
Sam nodded happily and Gabe passed the phone back.
"You want me to pick you up again?" Gabe asked and Sam nodded.
"I've seriously been questioning how you guys communicate but wow this actually works," Charlie said. "I'm going to call this Sabriel."
Sam raised an eyebrow.
"It took you this long to get a ship name?" Gabe asked. He turned to Sam. "Get used to it, she does this sorta thing all the time."
So I gathered, he signed, and Charlie translated it for Gabriel. Gabe smiled over at Sam.
At that moment customers actually came into the shop, and Charlie and Gabe had to start working.
"See you tomorrow?" Gabe said to Sam as he jumped off the counter. Sam nodded with a smile. He hesitated as he went to leave and Gabe took that time to step over to him and pull him into a hug. Sam chuckled lightly and returned the hug, before Gabe pulled away with a wink and a smile and went off to serve customers. Sam walked out of the shop with a wide smile on his face that just wouldn't go away.

Sorry for the late update! I realized I didn't actually plan anything further than their first date, and coming up with new ideas when sick is kinda hard. But hey I'm better now :)
It's weird how one of the ideas I had here reflects my real life currently...but hey, who else is excited for Civil War??? It comes out in three days here :P And I'm seeing it on Thursday...
I'm still just creating a list of quotes to use later on, so any good ideas are welcome :)
*Gives everyone top deck flavoured icecream* (It's amazing, trust me)
