💠 Amber 💠

"Andrew, Amber and Colton get your asses down in two minutes!" My mum's voice could be heard no matter where we were.

"Yes mum!" I yelled a reply but I was far from ready.

I was having trouble on deciding what to wear to my Aunt Felicity's house.

A dress? All my dresses looked formal to me.

Print tee with a shorts? That would look too simple.

"Amber Cadwell! Are you ready?!" My dad was rushing me because my two minutes was up.

"Hey sis, if you don't get down in another two minutes. I'll go in and pull you out with whatever clothing that is on you." Andrew knocked on my door which made me jumped.

"You can't get in with my door lock!" I argued back as my hands reached into my wardrobe.

I pulled out a black tank top, my favourite flannel shirt and denim shorts. Andrew kicked on my door and I yelped out in shock.

"Andrew Cadwell! If you break your sister's door, get ready your money to pay it!" My mum warned him and I could hear the stern tone in her voice.

I laughed out loud as I folded my home clothes. Andrew cursed softly right outside my room.

"Five, four, three, two and.."

I opened the door right before Andrew had the chance to say the number one.

"You didn't have to count down, my dear brother. Because you can't break my door." A smirked was pasted on my face as I face my brother.

"Smart ass." Andrew muttered under his breath which made my smirk turned into a full-blown grin.

I closed my door behind me as Andrew left me smiling at the wall.

"Am, could you please do us a favour." Colton said with an exaggerated sigh.

"What?"

"Learn to get ready asap. If not, no guys will dare to date you. Because their neck would be so long by the time you're done." Colton's face was hit by a cushion by the time he finished talking.

"I bet you can't find any girlfriend with that annoying mouth of yours." I retorted back heatly as my eyes scanned the shoe rack for my favourite pair of sneakers.

"Oh really? You are so wrong." A corner of Colton's lips twitched up into a smirk.

"I'm so wrong? Oh God, Colton! You're dating someone now, right?" My hands flew to cover my mouth in shock.

The smirk that was etched on Colton's handsome face disappeared. Everybody stopped whatever they were doing to stare at Colton. We were quietly waiting for Colton's confirmation.

"I hereby declare that I'm single okay. Amber, are we all ready to go now?" There was a hint of irritation in Colton's tone.

"Of course. We were just waiting for your answer." I winked at Colton while I put on my sneakers.

My whole family rolled their eyes at me and went out of the house. Andrew jogged over to the other side of the car after my dad unlocked it. When I finally managed to squeeze into my old sneakers, I locked the door before walking to the car.

Colton was suspiciously standing outside of the car, waiting for me.

"Why aren't you getting into the car?"

"Waiting for you to go in first. As a proof that I can be a sweet brother too." Once again Colton's mischievous smirk found it's way back to his mouth.

"Bullshit. You knew that I hate to sit in the middle of you boys."

"You can think whatever you want. Just get in, big sis."

I sighed, knowing that there was nothing I could do. I hopped into the car and was immediately squashed by Colton. Andrew was obviously not happy with me sitting too close to him. I tried to scoot a little towards Colton instead. I was already feeling uncomfortable at the start of the ride.

I understand the reason why guys have to sit with their legs wide open and took up a considerable amount of space, when they sit down. Well, that was why I was helpless when it comes to fighting for space, in between two guys.

My hands were searching for my earpiece in the pockets. However, all I had was a packet of tissue and my smartphone with me.

My shoulders were slumped in disappointment. The ride to Aunt Felicity's home was quite long. I was in a hurry earlier on and had completely forgotten about my earpiece.

When I was still feeling sad and angry at myself for being such a forgetful person. Andrew and Colton popped in one of their ear bud into my ear simultaneously.

For a brief moment, I was touched by their gestures. Even though my brothers were always annoying the hell out of me. They could be quite endearing sometimes, if they want to.

Colton and Andrew shared a not so discreet high five, right in front of me. I was bracing myself for a sudden blast in my ears. But, surprisingly my brothers did not turn up to their usual volume.

Whenever they were listening to music, I could practically hear every word of the song.

Yes, it's that loud.

I did warn them about the risk of listening in high volume. But they shrugged off my advice like it was nothing.

I could feel a smile tugging at the corner of my lips, while thinking of them being so lovable today. I decided not to take out any of the earpiece and let two different genres of music flow into my ears.
............

I dozed off during the ride to my aunt's home. Colton and Andrew both nudged me at the sides. In an instant, my eyes were wide open taking in my surroundings. My brain was foggy from the deep slumber.

"Oh my God. Look who's here!" Aunt Felicity's ear-piercing voice was the first thing that greeted us.

The adults all exchanged hugs while the three of us stood at the side. Soon after that, we were all attacked with bear hugs and our cheeks were all wet by the time the hugging session was over.

Now you all know why I brought a packet of tissue before coming here. I fished out the packet of tissue and handed it to my brothers after taking one piece for myself. They murmured a thanks and we all turned around to wipe off the saliva of our relatives.

"Hey kiddos, come on in." Uncle Xander, Aunt Felicity's husband, called out for us.

"Alright!" I replied with a polite smile as he nodded in reponse.

"When will he stop calling us kiddos. I'm sixteen and you both are twenty. I don't think we will fit under the category of kiddos." Colton muttered and received a slap on the arm by yours truly.

"Hey! What was that for, Am?" Colton rubbed his sore arm as he shot me a glare.

"We will forever be kiddos to Uncle Xander. You shouldn't have said that right here, even if you didn't like to be called a kiddo. Imagine how Uncle Xander would feel if he heard that?" I lectured Colton for being insensitive.

"Fine."

Colton sulkily stomped off towards the door, leaving behind Andrew and I.

"So, have you told Kimberly?" I seized the chance to ask Andrew about the meeting with Kimberly.

"Nope. We're all busy with schoolwork."

"But, I will tell her and fix a time for you, okay?" Andrew quickly added after he saw the look on my face.

"Well, I could just ask her myself."

Andrew's eyebrows shot up as he was quick to convince me not to do that.

"No no, you don't have to ask her yourself. I will tell her soon. Trust me, Am." Andrew looked at me with pleading eyes which made it impossible not to say okay. Andrew let out a breath of relief and pulled me into the house before I could say anything else.
.............

Dinner as usual had been a chaotic but enjoyable one with the family. After the close down of my grandpa's company, my dad's side of the family cut off all ties with us.

Therefore, it was only my mum's side of the family who always invited us over for gatherings. We did not have the time to be sad of what my dad's side of the family had done. We were all trying to get our normal lives back.

"Amber, sweetie. Are you still here with us?" Aunt Felicity was snapping her fingers to get my attention.

"Uh, yeah. Why?"

"We were asking how are you doing lately? Still single?"

I was completely baffled by their questions.

"I'm doing okay. Yeah, still single." I responded after blinking several times to fully digest their questions.

"Do you have anyone in mind? If not, I can help you find. I do know a few boys who are boyfriend material." Aunt Felicity placed her hand over mine with a wink.

Suddenly, I found it hard to gulp down my saliva. Colton and Andrew obviously were trying hard not to laugh out loud. I shot them an icy glare which was meant to warn them not to laugh. However, my plan backfired, because that made them burst out in laughter straight away.

"Th.. Thanks for the offer, Aunt Felicity. But, I am fine without a boyfriend. It's not like I'm 40 and still could not find a guy." The last sentence was not meant to be said out loud. I stole a glance at Aunt Felicity to check her reactions. Luckily, she was not offended by my thoughtless words. As an understanding smile appeared on her face.

"Amber, I understand what you meant. If you want any advice on boys, I'm always here."

I nodded with an apologetic smile.
