Chapter 61
Narrator's pov
-
Tension. It can be described as many things. The chemistry between two or more people that feel a burning urge within themselves to touch, to taste, to claim.
While others could be described as awkward, a feeling of uneasiness where your brain just wants you to run as far away from that situation as possible
Then there's some where you simply want to pop someone's head off because the anger within you is increasing with each second
So what happens when you feel all of it at once?
"Are you ready?" Kate asked as she glanced at her Co star
The two girls stood at the door, shoulder to shoulder and their eyes focusing on the three people approaching them from the driveway. Autumn's heart pounding in her chest was loud enough to hear
"No" she mumbled
"It's okay, I'm right here if you need me" She whispered
Autumn furrowed her brows when she felt a warm touch on her palm, the girl glanced down to see that Kate had intertwined their fingers
Her hand was just as soft and warm as she'd hoped and intertwine in hers. Her hand fixed perfectly in Autumn's, her long and thin fingers, completing the space left
That smile Kate held was the prettiest thing Autumn had seen in a while, it extended to her brown eyes and deep into your soul, setting her nerves silent. Kate hand a gentle touch, an honesty that was a purity in her smile
Her hands held Autumn's for no more than a few second then were pulled away and thrust back into the pockets of her soft pants when the two adults reached the door
"Ugh God, this is where you're living?" A tall woman said in disgust when her eyes landed inside the house
She looked nothing far from a typical blonde movie star actress in the 80's. Her hair was fluffy with a crow hat on her head. The woman stood there in her white tress that started a bit below her chin and hugged her entire body with smooth curves, stopping to her heels. Her jawline was sharp, enough to cut the body of her enemies. A blood-red lipstick met her lips to match her long acrylic nails. There wasn't a spot wrinkle on her face, it seem as if it was chisled from a tan stone, ever so perfect
She lifted her shades from her eyes and tucked it onto her puffy black hair and Kate's breath hitched in her throat. Her sparkling green eyes held all of the colour of the forest in one with just a touch of the ocean flooding. The brunette could definitely see where Autumn got her looks from
"Evening to you too. Mother" Autumn gritted through her teeth
"Don't call me mother, it makes me feel old" The woman scoffed
"Then what the hell are you?" Autumn hissed
Kate mentally cringe to herself at the small tension between the two women. Autumn's mother glanced in her direction and gave her a stone death glare
"Is that how I raised you to talk to me!?" She asked
"Raise me? RAISE ME? YOU DIDN'T RAISE ME AT ALL" Autumn yelled
"Okayyy, I think we should all just head over to the dining room" Kate said, pulling the attention away from their heated tension
But she might have regretted that since another pair of eyes landed on her. Kate swallowed a lump in her throat when she came face to face with a tall raven hair man, his hair was combed over and slicked back, his blue eyes looked almost electric, shocking those nearby with lightening. His square shaped jawline had a freshly shaved beard, his red suit hugged his muscular body as he stepped into the house
"Who is this?" he asked
"Co star on a new project" Autumn mumbled
The girl's parents stared into her soul, their eyes piercing and running into her whole body as if it wanted to paralyze her in her place. Kate was frozen, they didn't even look a day over 20. Their perfect skin and flawless hair matched Autumn's appearance perfectly, in her eyes they seemed like goddesses with no heart
"Mhm" The girl's mother hummed
"Where's June" the man said in a deep voice
"Right here Mr and Mrs Hester" The woman's voice boomed from behind
"Show us to the dining room, I hope you laid out velvet as I requested" The woman said as she brushed past her daughter and started walking in the direction of June
"Yes ma'am, right this way"
Autumn stood there shaking her head as her eyes avoided her father that stood at the door, he towered over her like a tree and Kate could tell that she was scared. She hugged herself, her fingertips brushing against her soft skin as she hung her head low. Her father didn't seem please by her posture either as his brows furrowed
"Stand up straight, is that how you greet people?" he asked
"N-No. Sorry" Autumn whispered and Kate's eyes widened
It was the first time she'd ever heard the word 'sorry' fall from the girl's lips. Although it amazed her, she was started to get heated at the fact that both of Autumn's parents were acting like two rocks with eyes and hair
Autumn straightened herself out, her shoulders were as straight as a ruler and her chin tilted up to meet her father's eyes. He nodded, pleased with her action before stepping into the house.
Autumn didn't even spare a glance at the brunette, knowing her judgmental eyes were boring in her. But what Autumn didn't know was the girl's eyes weren't filled with pity, but they were filled with admiration. Impressed that Autumn had even been so long in that family, a wonder of how she had so much courage to put up with them, I respect for how strong she was
"Wait. Where's.. Your um.. Sister" Kate Whispered
"I don't have a sister" Autumn said in a low voice
"Autumn" Kate mumbled
"What!?" The girl hissed as she snapped her neck towards the brunette
There was mixture of ice and fire in her eyes, an unusual mix that could only be described as Autumn Hester. The coldness of her emotions, her care for anything pure was frozen in time while the fire of her own anger burned around it.
But Kate wasn't afraid, for she knew she was the only one that saw Autumn for who she truly was
And although Autumn didn't know herself, Kate was going to hold her up for the both of them
"H-Hi" a small voice came from another direction
Both girls glanced out the door to see a shorter girl standing there, perhaps thirteen years old. Her dark black hair fell over her face as she hung her head low. A position Autumn was all too familiar with
"Dammit" Autumn groaned before rubbing her temples
"Hi. What's your name?" Kate whispered as she stepped closer towards the younger girl
"What's your name?"
"L-Lisa" The girl replied
"Hi. I'm Kate, but everyone calls me Katie for no reason at all. And this over here is a tall dumbass who has too much pride" Kate grinned, earning a small giggle from the younger girl
"Oh yes, hurt me to get others to smile. Go ahead Katya" Autumn playfully glared
"It's nice to hurt you" Kate giggled
"Step in line" Autumn muttered under her breath before glancing at the smaller girl
She stayed silent but her eyes running over the girl's body told a thousand words, the hurt in her eyes from seeing the smaller girl hunched over had brought a feeling to her heart. The kind of pain that numbed your blood and squeezed the veins of your heart until your throat burned and your suffocated yet survived
But a quick nudge to her sides pulled her out of her thoughts. Kate glared at her before nodded her head in the direction of the girl, mentally telling her to start a conversation
"I-I'm Autumn" The raven hair girl whispered, hugged her elbows
"I.. I've seen you on TV before, I know who you are" The girl said
"Oh.. Well I guess you could say I'm your sister now" Autumn grumbled
"Really?" the girl asked
"Yeah, but look at it this way. Now you have someone to vent to when they start acting like cunts-"
"Autumn!" Kate hissed
"What?"
"Language!"
"Oh, no it's okay. I'm accustomed to hearing it all" the smaller girl giggled
"What the- oh I'm gonna kill them" Autumn groaned
"No no. It's not them. I've just... Grown up in a different place than I am now" the girl mumbled, returning to drop her eyes to the floor
Autumn took a deep breath in as she felt that familiar pain tug at her heart again. Kate seemed to notice and stepped a bit closer to the girl, brushing her fingertips against her own and intertwining their fingers
The raven hair girl felt the familiar electric shock run through her veins as she glanced at her Co star who held a sweet smile. Her smile was the only thing keeping her sane in that moment, it sent some flutter in her heart.
Almost like a single blooming flower in the middle of a war, bringing hope to her heart
The night was going to be a challenge, but Kate's smile ensured her that she was going to get through it all
"Come in, we should go meet them" Kate smiled at the girl before clearing a way for the girl to walk in
"Th-Thank you" she whispered before entering the house
It was only then did Kate realize the girl had similar features to Autumn. Their black hair looked jet black, falling in waves and flowing over their chests.
Their blue eyes were similar. Not because of their colour, but because of their pain.
Yet they managed to look as beautiful as the sugar coated stars on a black canvas sky. There was art in broken pieces that didn't need fixing.
"Don't say that" Autumn said
"What? Thank you?"
"Yes"
"Oh don't worry about her, she's just allergic to anything pure" Kate giggled
"And you're allergic to anything truthful" Autumn glared
"Oh really? I'm not truthful?" Kate chuckled
"Yes. On the contrary. Yes" Autumn laughed
"Dumbass" Kate playfully glared
"Blind bitch" Autumn smirked
"Are.. Are you two together or?" The smaller girl asked
The two actresses scrunched their noses up in disgust before glancing at each other
"Ew" they both said in unison
"As if she can handle me" Autumn scoffed
"Oh I can handle you" Kate smirked
"I'd like to see that" Autumn chuckled
"Maybe we will Ms Hester. Maybe. We. Will" Kate chuckled softly before stepping towards the smaller girl
Kate hooked her arm around the smaller girl's neck as she spun her around to the direction of the dining room. Her small giggles and smiles with the girl echoed through the hallway as they walked, leaving Autumn behind with a smile
The raven hair girl shook her head laughing, her mind couldn't process the thought of her being with Kate in a relationship. It's been a while since she had even thought about being with anyone for that fact.
Maybe because her heart still hurts
It hurts because it belonged to another
Another that wanted nothing to do with it
But that's life isn't it? We give our hearts to someone, they screw us over but we're too stubborn to protect ourselves. We run back to them over and over because we hope something might change
Maybe they'll see us differently. Maybe they'll give you a chance. Maybe.. Just maybe, it could go our way for once
But in the end, we always forget one thing
This was real life and we never get what we want
