Chapter 13
Kate's pov
-
"WORLDSTARR" Ethan snickered when his eyes came into contact with mine
"Shut up"
"Now this is crazy" Ethan chuckled as he placed the newspaper onto the coffee table
"It's stupid and ridiculous" I groaned
Last night was interesting, it was the first time I'd ever actually in a fight. I guess my words hit a nerve on that crazy raven hair girl and she threw a punch directly at my face. Fortunately I dodged it with my fast reflexes I learnt a while ago when dealing with falling props back in drama class
But that only triggered my own anger that was already boiling in my blood. My hands found its way in Autumn's hair and I tugged at her harshly, wanting to feel every strand pull from the tiny hair follicle of her scalp
Her hands then pounded against my skin, piercing at my muscles with what force. I hissed in pain and released her hair but she continued to attack me, only hitting my shoulders. I felt Ethan's arms wrap around my torso from behind as he pulled me away from the girl, Her body guard also tugged her away from me before things got even worse
It wasn't anything bad, just a few scratches on the arm but Autumn had bruises on her cheek and I'm pretty sure she had a terrible headache today
I smirked to myself knowing I did at least something right
But unfortunately for me, the rest of the remaining customers in the diner had taken photos and videos of our little fight and posted it across social platforms. Although it happened just a few hours ago, it was already printed out in newspapers and fucking TMZ spread the image wrongly and said that Autumn was arrested for attacking a waitress because I brought her the wrong order.
I swear, social media is toxic.
"It's stupid how people could just spin words like that without even knowing the truth. They manipulate everyone that reads it and the people involved in the stories are fucked because of it" Ethan scoffed
"It's true. God I'm more pissed at myself for going so far" I groaned
I really shouldn't had let my emotions get the best of me. After I dodged, I should have backed away to avoid anything else from happening and I didn't. But it was hard, I wasn't thinking in that moment about the consequences, I just wanted to unleash that built up anger onto her, especially since she's the reason I was pissed off in the first place
But I didn't expect any of this to happen, that little fight was literally everywhere and I was scared to meet May today on set
There was no way I could downplay this, I'm sure everyone on the team had saw the news and were awaiting the arrival of Autumn and I on set to judge us with their eyes.
We could have single handedly ended the entire film reputation with our stupid outburst last night and I wanted to bash my head into a wall just thinking about it
"It's okay, you just need to be strong today and don't let anyone walk over you. You'll apologize if you need to but you still have to stand your ground, she attacked you first and she was being a high-class bitch. I'm with you on that one" Ethan said sternly
I raised a brow at the boy who sat on the torn up couch of the apartment
"Oh now you're on my side?" I playfully scoffed, Ethan chuckled softly and raised his hands up in defence
"Listen, I was always on your side. But there's some interesting things going on between you two that neither of you can see yet. I'm loving it so until you two figure it out, I'll be the best friend that I am and tease you about it" Ethan smirked
"I don't know what you're talking about" I chuckled and took my car keys into my hand
"Oh you'll find out, maybe today or maybe next year. Who knows? Time will tell" the boy smiled
"Don't you have a rehearsal you have to get to?" I asked, Ethan's grin instantly dropped to a flat line
His wide pupils were exposed into panic
"shit!" he hissed and hopped off the sofa, dashing directly into his room
I couldn't help but laugh at the boy that forgot he had a part in a small film today and there he was sitting on the chair trying to tease me
"Oh what would you do without me?" I chuckled and gripped the knob of the front door
"Nothing, literally nothing" Ethan yelled from his room
"If you want to thank me, you could make dinner tonight" I smirked
"Dinner? You know damn well I'd make that microwave explode again!" he yelled out
My eyes grew wide as I recalled the last time I left Ethan home alone to make himself food. The placed a fork inside a bowl and left it in the microwave after pressing a minute. But unfortunately he didn't actually place the time to a minute, he accidentally pressed it for ten hours.
"I'm leaving now! Byeee, wish me good luck!" I yelled from the front door
"Good luck, you'll definitely need it"
Kate's bottom little feet made their way out of the apartment and down to the alley where a black Cadillac was parked and awaiting her arrival
May had sent a car over for the girl everytime she needed to get around somewhere. It was just one of the advantages of being in the production
"Hi Rick" Kate greeted the driver as she slipped into the car
"Morning Ms Wilson, everything okay from last night?" The man asked, Kate sighed into her seat
"Guess you've heard huh?" She mumbled
"It's everywhere, even on the radio" The man replied
Kate groaned lowly and leaned her head against the flat glass surface of the car window, the engine purred under the man's touch as he lightly pressed on the gas
Kate's eyes locked onto the grey clouds that were forming above, waiting to drench the earth with its cold raindrops
She knew she messed up lastnight. What she thinking? Attacking Hollywood's most famous actor, especially when her spaghetti noodle arms couldn't even lift one side of a sofa. But her emotions took control, her anger got the best of her and frankly, she didn't regret it.
Autumn Hester was a stubborn and self centered person who needed a good slap to her cheek, maybe one to make her forget where she even came from in the first place. But Kate was ready to face the consequences.
No matter what they were.
Without even realizing, they were already approaching the gate of the studio. The security guard buzzed them in and waved a good morning at the brunette but there was dissapointment written behind his eyes
Kate slunched herself deeper into her seat, pulling the neckline of her shirt a bit over her face. The vehicle then made its stop directly at the door's entrance.
"Good luck in there ma'am" The driver said
"Thanks" Kate mumbled as she made her way out the car and through the hallway of the building
white walls, not a hand print or scuff mark anywhere. The doors were a glossy black, numbered with silver digits that matched the globe shaped handles. It isn't just the materials though, it's the dimensions, the width being at least twice the size of a business hallway
"Morning" Kate smiled to the secretary at the head of the hallway, but the woman simply gave her a small glare before returning back to the computer before her
"Have a good day too" Kate mumbled as she made her way over to the elevator, her thumb pressed against the silver button and awaited the ding
Nervous she was, her stomach was filled with knots and bad butterflies soring around. She didn't want to chew on her nails or lips, so she found herself gnawing on the insides of her cheek.
What if they fired her for that little mistake, it was just a small fight it wasn't anything to go crazy about but she still couldn't help but think of it. Who knows how strict they were when it came to public image.
She signed her contract with them with fast that she didn't take the proper time to read the fine details. Heck, she didn't even have a manager yet. She thought of herself as unprepared and a mess in the acting industry, a bit of her confidence was now starting to shake.
The sound of the doors opening brought her out of her thoughts. But the person leaning against the side of the door drew all blood from her face
The raven hair girl leaned against the wall as her head was hung low, sure she'd notice Kate's presence but she wasn't in the mood to speak.
Autumn's eyes caught on the frame of the woman who had just entered the doorway. She was just a few inches short than her, with toned shoulders and dark brown eyes. It was hard not to notice her, with her pale skin and dark brown hair. Her jacket, which was hanging unzipped over her torso, fit snugly on the curves of her stomach.
Kate took a deep breath in as she stepped foot into the elevator, she pressed the button to the directed floor and watched as the silver doors closed
It was just her and Autumn standing side by side in that elevator. The air was so brittle it could snap, and if it didn't, then Kate might.
No-one spoke a word, what was there to say? Sorry for possibly ruining your career? Or bruising your skin? Platitudes wouldn't cut it right now.
But Kate couldn't help but feel a heavy weight in her heart, they were working together for fuck sakes. They needed to bury whatever weird tension it was between them and place it back in the past. That was, if Autumn would have it
"I'm sorry" Kate mumbled, but Autumn didn't spare a glance her way
"I'm sorry for hitting you last night, it was unprofessional and I wasn't thinking right. I was angry and I shouldn't have allowed myself to get so far" Kate said, glacing towards the raven hair girl
It was only then did she notice how tightly the girl had clenched her jaw, Autumn grinded her teeth against each other as her piercing blue eyes stared forward at the elevator door, her cheeks were still hallowed and she had a few cuts along her face but it wasn't that visible
"But.. I'm not sorry for what I said-"
"Jesus. Do you ever just shut up!?" Autumn hissed
Kate felt her heart sink into her chest, her head immediately hung low to avoid the girl's icy blue eyes from piercing into her soul. For she knew she'd lose herself if she had stared into those eyes
"Sorry"
