||Letter|| 《5》
-Quiet's POV-
A knock on the door in the silence of night was enough to make the household stir.
Cherry was the first one to reach the door.
She opens, to find two people, a boy and a girl, standing in her doorway, holding a small pet carrier.
"Excuse me." The girl started, "But, is this the Viridi residence? Oh, um, how rude of me. My name is Erica. Erica Rodanbaugh. This is Tobias Pelletier."
Tobias smiled, and waved to her.
"Oh, yes. Are you friends of Quiet's?"
"Uhh, more acquaintances, really. We don't exactly know her very well. She seems quite shy." Tobias answered.
"Ah! Well, please. Come in."
"Thank you very much." Erica replied.
Cherry invited them in, and led them to the living room.
And, then, she called Quiet down. Then, turned back to Erica and Tobias.
"Would you like a cup of tea, perhaps?"
"I'll take one, if it's not too much trouble."
Cherry nodded, and looked at Tobias.
He accepted her offer.
She then walked off.
Quiet then turned and looked at Erica and Tobias.
"Oh. Hello. I have Weiss for you." Erica said, and smiled.
She then opened the carrier and Weiss hesitated, but realized where she was and quickly came out of the crate.
"Oh, thank you. We're not sure how she got out."
Cherry came back and set the cups onto the coffee table.
"I hate to be a horrible host, but I must return to work."
"Oh, no. You're completely fine. We completely understand." Tobias said, before Erica could reply.
Cherry then walked off, once again.
"Earl Grey."
"Huh?" Tobias asked, slightly startled.
"The tea." Erica started, "It's Earl Grey."
"I'm sorry! That's all we have left at the moment!"Quiet explained, quickly.
"No need to apologise! It brings back pleasant memories. Earl Grey was presumably named after Charles Grey; Prime Minister of The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland; who was known as Viscount Howick between the years 1806 and 1807."
She then abruptly stopped speaking for a moment.
"Oh, no. I'm rambling, aren't I? Uh, well, I just had an idea! If you want to, you can join my siblings and some friends to the fair. Uh, but, only if you want to. It was just a suggestion, sorry. Um, here...I'm sorry. I'm speaking without courtesy of you. I apologize!"
She fumbles around in her coat pockets for a moment, but then pulls out a folded piece of paper.
"Do you have a pen I can borrow for a moment?" She asks.
Quiet stands up and quickly goes to get one.
"Thank you." Erica replies, to being handed one.
She then writes a series of numbers and the words:
The grey house in the neighbourhood ahead of the school. Just walk straight ahead, past the houses with the white picket fences.
Erica then handed the piece of paper to Quiet.
"There. Now you can call or text if you want to join. Oh, no. Look at the time... we must get going. Hopefully we can make it back before Cecilia and Michael gets home. Please thank your mother on our behalf."
With that, they stood up. Said farewells, and left.
Quiet couldn't help the underlying suspicion. But, she seemed different than she did a few nights ago. More energetic and happy. Her eyes filled with joy and gladness; unlike her dull, unfeeling eyes from that night.
She examines the paper, and realizes that there is something written on the inside.
She unfolds the neatly folded paper and reads it.
It's a letter.
To Quiet Viridi,
I know we don't know each other very well, and I hope you find this.
I wanted to explain to you why you saw me like you did.
I know you saw something.
Something horrendous. Scarring. And, I know you'll probably never forgive me; but I really need to tell you something.
In person. I think it'd be best.
And, I will warn you, though. What I might tell you will fuck you up. But, I mean, you've already seen me hold a fucking corpse in my arms, but, anyways, it's bad.
And, I do hope that you allow me to explain.
But, you cannot tell anyone.
Not a soul.
Please.
Sincerely,
Erica Rodanbaugh
-Erica's POV-
As the wind began to become wilder by the minute, noise through the air traveled to every person or car passing by.
"If you don't mind me asking; how'd you know all of that? It's amazing. You were able to say it so flowingly and quickly." Tobias asked, as his footsteps were at a steady pace, hitting the pavement.
"Oh, well. Father says it's important to-."
She stops herself, practically choking on the words she wants to say.
"Yes?"
"...To know about where you come from."
To be continued....
