The Start of Danger(4)
I yawned wearily, fixing myself a bowl of cereal. At 12 am. Couldn't have picked a more convenient time?1:30am?! I had to sleep at 5:40pm and that's freaking early. I checked my watch and it was 12:05. I sighed and rubbed my eyes. The kitchen seemed like it was freezing even though I was wearing my black water proof jacket with soft material on the inside.
I was wearing some storm gray jeans and soon to wear leather boots which were by the door. I shivered again and took the bowl to the table. My phone began to ring. I reached out and answered the call.
"What?", I grumbled.
"Jeez I know it's 12 but don't take it out on me.", Karma said airily and then sighing. I clicked my tongue and rubbed my forehead."I've never been awake this early to go somewhere.", I said taking a spoonful of cereal.
"Hm. Anyways, I hope you've packed up because I'm already here.",he said. I nearly choked on my cereal and coughed a couple a times after swallowing."N-Nani?! It's freaking early already!", I exclaimed, wiping the milk off that escaped from my mouth.
"Hm I got bored of waiting.", he said in his half amused tone at my reaction. I face palmed and sighed,"I'll be over there in 5". I could practically imagine him smirk from the phone and hung up. I finished up my cereal and washed it quickly. I grabbed my keys and kept them close. Before I stuffed my feet into my shoes, I grabbed an envelope from the table plus my black backpack and ran outside.
I went to Ms.Primavera's apartment door and slipped in the envelope. Just to notify that I would be gone...for a while. A really long while. Hopefully I can still come back, even empty handed. I gulped as I reached the last step and froze. The crickets chirped in the brisk cool air. All houses and apartments were dim and off. The only thing illuminating the world were the street lights.
I stared blankly and breathed in the air. It smelled of dusty road and some hotdogs from a barbecue a neighbor was holding earlier. I looked up and made a 360 turn to view the scene before me. I pray this won't be the last time I see this. A burning feeling in my gut screamed at me to turn back.
I'm scared. This is going to probably be 4 times more hard and 3 times more dangerous than the assassination of Koro-sensei. Mostly because I'm doing this mainly on my own. I was wearing my old hairstyle since I suppose, it gave me that look of, 'Do I look like I would ever kill anybody?'.
Oh yeah. I don't look it but I would.
Karma's POV
"Excuse me.", a woman opened the door from the dark and closed restaurant."Can I help you?"
I turned around and smirked, tilting my head to right a bit."No, but I can help you kill.", I respond. She paused then nodded, and opened the door a little wider signifying for me to come in. After we received the message we also received a code.
The woman had dark black hair pulled back in a tight ponytail and she was wearing a thin grey jacket and navy blue jeans. Her eyes were hidden but I did see a small glow from them."This way.", she said and led me to the back of the cafe. She pushed some trashcans away and a large flat cardboard box which actually was a trapdoor to the building next to the cafe.
"Please enter until further instruction.", she bowed and headed back inside. I raised an eyebrow at the hidden passage way but still ducked in and was surprised to see a large sleek grey tiled room with a few benches and people seated on it. The walls were painted white and TV's lines on everyone of them.
These must be other recruits called here. One of the men was drinking from a stainless steel canteen of what seems to be coffee. A weirdo sneered at me and crossed his arms. I rolled my eyes and he gave a small laugh which utterly annoyed me.
"Got a problem, buddy?", I say approaching him. I'm not good at masking my bloodlust as much as Nagisa but it was rather useful in scaring enemies so I didn't train too much into that. He stepped a bit back and clicked his tongue."Nothing, it's just hard to believe the government would recruit a kid like you."
I examined the guy's appearance. He was wearing a large brown overcoat and black ragged beanie which gave him the impression of a hobo. He stuffed his hands into his pockets and looked at me with a challenging glare."Really? You want to know what else is hard to believe?",I say lifting my gaze and stepping toward him.
I could sense he was getting nervous now."That why your parents could even bear to give you a name.", I say in a low voice. He steps back and grit his teeth in anger which makes me feel quite satisfied."Are y-you trying to fight?!", he says balling his fists. I turn away from him resisting the urge to knock him down. If this guy was an assassin, he has a shorter temper than I do.
"Karma-Kun!", I heard Nagisa's voice behind me. The man backed down with an angered frown and walked away from me. I turned to greet the short guy."Nagisa, you actually came.", I say in mutual surprise. He smiles innocently and nodded."Yeah I guess".
I have to be honest with myself. It's a strange feeling I've had ever since I said my last goodbye to him. It was a hollow and pained feeling when I couldn't see him again. But when I did, I felt light and fluttery. Like something tickling my stomach until I smile.
"But honestly, you're already getting into fights. It's a problem.", he sighed and crossed his arms. I frowned and glanced at the man who I was sparring with. He seems to be seriously glaring daggers at me."Oh, he started it huh?", the Shiota had followed my gaze. I gave a small nod and returned to looking at him but he continued staring at the man.
"Hey, Karma-kun.",the tone in his voice seemed ominous which made me tense."Let me test this guy.", he said a little more quietly turning to me. I shrugged and nodded,"Knock yourself out.". He eagerly stepped toward the man clenching his fist.
Nagisa's POV
I can't slow down. I need these skills to get the job done. And besides, this guy seems a little fishy. He looked at me with a nasty glare. My body began to remember the normal procedure I learned in my days of training to be an assassin. I looked at his much taller height and smiled innocently.
The panic that shot across his face was only for a split second, but I knew it caught him off guard."Hey sir, from the way you handle yourself it's kind of hard to believe you're an assassin.", I tilt my head a bit, holding my hands behind my back.
"Tsk! W-What would an amateur like you know?! You're just a kid!", he said rather nervously which spiked a suspicion in me. Even though all the assassins here are going to be rivals, wouldn't mean they'd be unveiling their true selves so early on in the game.
Knowing their personality would help in predicting their next move but this guy is an open book. I breathed in and pulled out a metal spoon. Why a spoon? I have soup in my backpack because I'm still hungry.
I pulled a plastic knife in the other. I actually bought a pack of these since they were rather cheap! But as expected, this man would rather keep an eye on something labeled knife. Steadily, I drop it, and it feels like the world slows down to see how it's going to hit the ground.
His eyes travel until the time is right. I want to try something new though. As fast a viper would strike, I grab his arm and bent it behind him. He let out a cry of pain and surprise.
I use my free hand holding the spoon and press it against a blood vessel."Maybe a spoon can also scoop your eye out.", I whisper loud enough only for him to hear. He squirms and whimpers which makes me instinctively let go and step back.
What did I just say? He turned around to look at me with a horrified expression, stumbling backwards until he fully fell back. Tears threatened to fall as he scooted as far as he could away from me.
There was a bit of an adrenaline rush in my body so I turned away to smile to myself. I remember this sensation. Even when I hid my bloodlust, I'd always get this thrilling sensation I couldn't calm at times.
"Nagisa.", Karma's voice pooled me back into reality. I blinked a couple times steadying my breathing and glancing around. The room was moderately filled now, but the majority of eyes were on me.
I looked at the Akabane but he only put on his usually dull and bored face."I guess you aren't as rusty as I thought."
His words swelled me with pride and I couldn't help but smile even more at them,"Yeah!". The TV's that were set around the room flickered on.
"Attention Assassins:

"Well well. I suppose that goodies will be given in the cafe. Let's go Nagisa.", he said turning to me. Adrenaline and excitement rushed in my body once more, the dangers of the mission pushed in the back of my mind.
I must be incredibly greedy not to take that starter cash. Maybe something else was leading me to the jaws of this beast.
