{8} Troll in the Girl's Bathroom

***

Prim sat in her charms class, listening to the teacher's instructions. The teacher was Professor Flitwick and he was actually quite short. He had to stand on a big stack of books for them to even be able to see him. Ron and Hermione sat in the row behind her and she was sitting beside of Seamus. Seamus had a tendency to mess up the spells that he attempts which was really unfortunate for the boy. Hopefully, nothing bad happens to anyone around Seamus in this class.

Flitwick's voice was high pitched and sounded like something out of a cartoon, "One of a wizard's most rudimentary skills is levitation or the ability to make objects fly. Uh, do you all have your feathers?" Prim felt movement behind her. She turned to see Hermione holding up her feather, "Good," Prim turned back to Professor Flitwick, "Now, uh, don't forget the nice wrist movement we've been practicing, hmm? The swish and flick," He demonstrated the movements, "Everyone."

Everyone got out their wands and copied his movements, "The swish and flick."

Flitwick smiled at the class, "Good. Oh, and enunciate. Wingardium Leviosa. Off you go then."

The class started to try and make their feathers float. Prim could hear everyone saying the spell and tried once or twice herself. There was sadly no luck, but she didn't give up there. She just had to keep trying. It would happen eventually. She could hear Ron and Hermione arguing behind her and wanted to laugh at how silly it was. Prim went back to focusing on trying to levitate her feather.

"Oh, well done!" She heard Professor Flitwick exclaim. Her head shot up to look at him. He was looking behind her. "See here, everyone!" Hermione had made her feather float, unlike everyone else. Her's almost touched the ceiling, "Ms. Granger's done it! Oh, splendid!" Prim looked back to see Ron putting his head on his books dejectedly.

Seamus swung around his wand wildly, "Wingard Levosa." Prim looked over at him with a confused expression while Flitwick congratulated Hermione on her success. Prim wasn't even sure if he was saying it right. She was proven right when there was an explosion beside of her.

Flitwick gasped and turned to the source of the sound, "Whoa! Ooh."

The smoke cleared to reveal a charred Seamus. His hair was a complete mess, as well. Prim could only watch him with wide eyes. Slowly getting over her shock, she looked over to the professor, "I think we're going to need another feather over here, Professor," Prim turned back to Seamus, "You just don't have the best luck, do you?" Seamus said nothing.

The class had ended shortly after that fiasco. Prim had gathered up her stuff and joined up with Neville, Ron, and Seamus. They all promised to walk together to their next class. The four of them made their way through one of the many courtyards. Ron had begun to mimic Hermione, "It's Levioooosa, not Leviosaaaar," He tried to mimic the bright girl's voice. Prim only stared at him with a disapproving stare, "She's a nightmare, honestly. No wonder she hasn't got any friends!"

Prim was taken back by his comment. She hadn't expected him to say something that terrible, "I think that's going too far, Ron," Hermione was her friend and she wouldn't have her other friend saying anything bad about her. Hermione, who was walking behind them, walked past them. She had purposely bumped shoulders with Ron and Prim could hear the girl sniffling. Prim sighed, "And she heard you." Prim hit Ron's shoulder making him wince and ask her why she did that. She only shook her head at him and walked away from the group of boys.

Prim had tried to find Hermione after she ran away from them, but it was like the girl disappeared. She hasn't seen her at all making the girl slightly worried. Ron had caught up to her and just told her that Hermione would show up at the Halloween feast that was happening in a couple of minutes. Prim sighed and went with Ron to the Great Hall for the feast. The Great Hall was decorated for the holiday. Instead of candles floating above them, there were Jack O'Lanterns instead. The ceiling was also a misty purple color and 'lighting' struck across the ceiling every once in awhile.

Prim was looking all around to see if Hermione had come. The girl was still nowhere to be found. She turned to the others sitting around her, "Where's Hermione?"

Neville was the one to answer her question, "Parvati Patil said that she wouldn't come out of the girl's bathroom. She said that she'd been in there all afternoon... Crying."

Prim crossed her arms over her chest and glanced to Ron with a disapproving glare. Ron had the audacity to shrug back at her. She let out a huff and began standing up, "Well, I'm going to check on her like nobody else here has bothered to do."

Before Prim could even get out of her seat, Professor Quirrell came bursting into the room. He ran down the pathway with a panicked look on his face saying, "Troll! In the dungeon! T-Troll in the dungeon!" Prim's eyes widened and she turned to the others. Dumbledore rose from his chair. "Thought you ought to know." Quirrell passed out in the middle of the pathway.

The room is dead silent. No one knew what to do or say. They were still trying to process what he said. When they finally did, panic broke out. People had stopped eating and started running out of the Great Hall. They were all screaming loudly.

"Silence!" Dumbledore shouted. Everyone stopped and looked to him, "Everyone will please, not panic. Now, Prefects will lead their houses back to the dormitories. Teachers will follow me to the dungeons."

The prefects started doing as Dumbledore said. They were leading their houses back to their dorms. Prim wondered what they were going to do about the Slytherins seeing as their dorms were in the dungeons. They were out of the Great Hall when Prim asked Ron, "How could a troll get in?"

"Not by itself," Ron replied, "Trolls are really stupid. Probably people playing jokes," Prim stopped in her tracks. The rest of the students just walked past her, trying to keep up with Percy. Prim quickly grabbed Ron's robes before he could get away. He looked back at her, "What?"

Prim looked at him with slight shock. She couldn't believe that both her and Ron had forgotten already. They were literally talking about it a few moments ago, "Hermione! She doesn't know about the troll!" Prim kept a hold on Ron's robes and the two of them ran away from the group.

Prim couldn't just leave Hermione, what if something happened to her? She wouldn't stop blaming herself for it. They ran down the corridors and tried to make it to the girl's bathroom in time. They stopped in their tracks when they heard a grunting noise. Prim could see the troll's shadow on the wall way in front of them.

"I think the troll's left the dungeon." Ron stated.

Prim pulled Ron into a doorway beside of them. They peeked out to see what the troll was going to do. The troll walked past the wall it's shadow had been seen before. He was dragging a huge club behind him, "It's going into the Girl's Bathroom," The two quickly, and quietly, followed the troll. They got to the bathroom in enough time to hear Hermione scream, "Hermione, move out of the way!"

The scene in front of her was horrific. The wooden stalls had been broken from the troll's club. The troll really was an ugly sight. It was a greenish color and he had warts all over him. He had big ears and a big stomach to match. Hermione did as Prim said and the troll smashed the remaining stalls.

"Help! Help!" Hermione kept shouting. Ron and Prim had now taken it upon themselves to start throwing the wooden pieces at the troll. The troll honestly didn't seem fazed by this.

"Hey, pea brain!" Ron shouted.

This was what caught the troll's attention. As it looked over, Ron managed to hit it in the head with a piece of wood. The troll was distracted long enough for Hermione to escape from the stalls and she hid underneath a sink. The troll saw her before she could do anything about it and smashed the sink. Thankfully, Hermione had moved out of the way before she was seriously injured. The sink was not so lucky. Prim could feel her heart pounding in her chest.

Hermione screamed and begged for help again. Prim got out her wand. When the troll had lowered his club behind him, she made the stupid decision to brag onto it. She was slowly being lifted off of the ground, "Whoa! Whoa, whoa!" She exclaimed as she was getting higher and higher. She let go of the club in enough time to land so that she was sitting on the troll's shoulders. The troll moved around wildly, trying to get the girl off of him. Her wand ended up going up into the troll's nose making her cringe with disgust.

Ron and Hermione made a noise of disgust as well. The troll still tried to get Prim off of him, but he also tried to get the wand out now. Prim screamed as she could feel herself almost falling. The troll grabbed her by one of her legs and held her upside down in front of him. Her eyes widened and her breathing got quicker, "Just do something already!" She shouted to her friends who were just standing by. The troll swiped at Prim with his club. She pulled herself up before he could hit her.

"What?" Ron asked as the troll kept swinging at Prim.

"Anything!" Prim dodged another swing, "It doesn't matter what!" Prim's heart felt like it was bursting out of her chest, "Just hurry!"

Ron had gotten out his wand and Hermione instructed him on the motions to the spell. Ron did so, "Wingardium Leviosa!" The club floated in mid air as the troll brought down his fist. The troll looked down at his hand in confusion before looking up at the club hovering over his head. The club fell back down, hitting the troll. Ron smiled, "Cool," The troll started swaying and he dropped Prim. Prim crawled away from him almost immediately. The troll fell to the ground, unconscious, just inches away from Prim.

Hermione slowly approached the unconscious troll, "Is it... Dead?"

Prim shook her head a little, standing up, "I don't think so. Just knocked out," Prim grabbed her wand which was now covered in mucus. Her nose scrunched up in displeasure, "Ew. Troll bogies." She wiped it off on Ron's robes who gave her a look.

Just then, Professor McGonagall, Professor Snape, and Professor, Quirrell came rushing into the room. They all looked at the scene in complete shock. Professor McGonagall had to support herself with one of her hands on the wall while one rested on her chest. Her eyes were wide open.

"Oh!" The older woman gasped, "Oh, my goodness! E-Explain yourselves, both of you!"

Ron and Prim shared a look. They looked back at the professors, trying to think of an explanation, "Well, what it is..."

Hermione cut in, "It's my fault, Professor McGonagall." The teachers, Ron, and Prim looked at the girl with equal surprise. Professor McGonagall questioned her, "I went looking for the troll. I'd read about them and thought I could handle it. But I was wrong," Hermione glanced over at Ron and Prim, "If Prim and Ron hadn't come and found me... I'd probably be dead."

"Be that as it may be..," McGonagall trailed off. Prim's gaze went to Snape's leg. There was a huge scratch on it and it looked to be bleeding quite a bit. His pant leg was torn which made her able to see the scratch. Snape noticed her looking and covered it, glaring at the girl, "It was an extremely foolish thing to do. I would have expected more rational behavior on your part, Miss Granger," Prim looked at Snape with interest before looking back to Professor McGonagall, "Five points will be taken from Gryffindor for your serious lack of judgment," The professor turned to Ron and Prim, "As for you two, gentleman and lady, I just hope you realize how fortunate you are. Not many students could take on a fully grown mountain troll and live to tell the tale. Five points... Will be awarded to each of you," Prim and Ron grinned at each other, "For sheer dumb luck."

Snape and McGonagall left the bathroom, leaving only Quirrell and the three of them. Quirrell looked nervous as he usually did, "Perhaps you ought to go... M-Might wake up..." He laughed nervously. The three kids left the bathroom together.
