{7} Three-Headed Dog?

***

The news of the new Gryffindor seeker spread like wildfire. Prim had no idea how everyone seemed to know and it had only been about thirty minutes since she found out. Hogwarts was a big school with a lot of students and almost everyone seemed to know. It seemed almost unhuman for that many people to know in such a short amount of time.

Prim even heard Sir Nicholas tell another ghost, "Have you heard? Primrose Potter's the new Gryffindor Seeker. I always knew she'd do well." She was walking with Ron at this moment in one of the many halls.

Ron had a wide smile on his face when she told him the news, "Seeker? But first years never make their house teams," Ron exclaimed. Prim nodded once with a big smile on her face, as well. She was happy that she was starting to fit in here, "You must be the youngest Quidditch player in..." He trailed off.

Prim continued on for him, "A century is what Professor McGonagall said." The two were suddenly joined by Ron's older brothers, Fred and George. They were twins and looked identical. It was a little hard for her to tell them apart going just by their looks.

Fred spoke first, "Hey, well done, Prim, Wood's just told us!"

"Fred and George are on the team, too. Beaters." Ron told her.

"Our job is to make sure that you don't get bloodied up too bad," George explained. Prim's eyes went wide, "Can't make any promises, of course. Rough game, Quidditch."

"Brutal. But no one's died in years. Someone will vanish occasionally." Fred said.

"But they'll turn up in a month or two!" George shouted after them.

Fred shouted, as well, because the two kids had to break off from them, "But don't worry. That won't happen to you. We need someone to pull pranks with." That's right. Prim had helped with one of their pranks. Who knew that she had a mischievous side? She had just helped them tweak it a little and they've been trying to recruit her for other pranks.

They were walking across the courtyard to get to their next destination. Prim's face was pale as she thought about how something might happen to her during Quidditch. What if she went missing like Fred and George said people did sometimes, "That's it. I'm gonna die."

Ron heard this and tried to make her feel a little better, "Oh, go on, Prim, Quidditch is great. Best game there is! And you'll be great, too!" Hermione was sitting with older students and studied with them. She saw and heard what they were talking about so she jumped up and joined them.

Prim looked over at him with a worried look, "What if I make a complete fool of myself? I don't know how to play Quidditch. I've never played before. I didn't even know about it until I came here." Ron didn't know what to say.

Hermione took ahold of the situation, "You won't make a fool of yourself. It's in your blood."

Prim didn't even notice that the girl joined them. She stopped walking and turned to her, "What makes you think that?" She asked. The bushy-haired girl seemed so sure of herself. Hermione gestured for them to follow her.

They did and they ended up at a display case. Inside of it were a bunch of trophies. All of them were for Quidditch and nothing else. One of the plaques caught the ginger girl's attention. Hermione pointed at the plaque, as well. It had the name of Prim's father and it said he was a seeker... Like she was.

Ron was surprised, "Whoa. Prim, you never told me your father was a Seeker, too."

"I didn't even know..." Prim said. She didn't know a lot about her parents. She didn't even know if she had anymore family besides the Dursleys. Seeing this made her happy and she was glad that Hermione showed her this.

The three started to make their way to where they needed to be. They made it to the Grand Staircase tower, which was the tower with many staircases. They were walking up one of the staircases. A railing pulled in which caught Hermione's attention, but she, along with the others, kept on walking.

"I'm telling you, it's spooky," Ron insisted, "She knows more about you than you do."

Prim shrugged, not really thinking much of it, "To be honest, who doesn't at this point?" Everyone knew who she was, who her parents were, what happened to them, and her. They knew about what happened to her parents longer than she did. Suddenly, the staircase shuddered and began moving. They grabbed onto the side railings. Ron yelped while Hermione gasped. "What's happening?" Prim inquired.

"The staircases change, remember?" Hermione informed her. Prim had completely forgotten about the moving staircases. The staircase came to a stop and now lead to a different corridor.

Prim tapped Ron's shoulder, "Let's try this way."

"Before the staircase moves again." Ron agreed.

They walked to the door in front of them. Prim walked inside with the other two following behind her. Behind the door was another corridor. It was dark and it seemed like no one else was there. There were cobwebs covering some of the statues and the whole place gave off a creepy vibe. It was like some of the hallways you would see in the castle of a horror movie.

Prim looked around a little worriedly, "Does anyone feel like... We shouldn't be here?"

"That's because we're not," Hermione replied, "This is the third floor. It's forbidden." A torch suddenly lit up on its own. This made Prim jump a little at the suddenness. At that very moment, Mrs. Norris came running in and meowed.

The whole group jumped. Prim spoke, "Just go." Mrs. Norris meowed again.

"It's Filch's cat!" Hermione exclaimed in realization.

"Forget the cat and run," Prim ordered. They ran through the corridor and the torches lit up as they passed them. Prim's heart was racing at the thought of being caught somewhere she wasn't supposed to be. Although, it was also a little thrilling. They got to the end of the corridor and to the door which stood at the end of it, "Quick! Let's hide through that door," She grabbed the handle and tried to open it, but with no luck, "Why does it have to be locked?"

Ron looked back, "That's it, we're done for!"

"Oh, move over," Hermione pushed through them and pulled out her wand. She aimed it at the lock on the door, "Alohomora," The door magically unlocked itself and opened, "Get in." They all hurried inside.

"Alohomora?" Ron questioned, closing the door behind them.

"Standard book of spells, Chapter seven," Hermione said. They peeked through the door to see Filch walk into the corridor. His cat looked up at him and he said something before leaving. They were in the clear. "Filch is gone." Prim wasn't with them, though. She was staring at something that was very bad for them... Very bad.

"Probably thinks this door's locked." She heard Ron say.

"It was locked." Hermione reminded him.

Prim spoke up with a slightly shaky voice, "And probably for a good reason," The two turn to stand with her. They finally see what she was staring at. There was a huge, black dog in front of them. It was so big that they had to look up at it if it were to stand up. It also had three heads which Prim has never seen another dog have that many heads. The dog that was asleep began to wake up and it growled at the intruders.

They screamed, loudly. They bolted out of the room and quickly shut the door. They battled with the dog on the other side to close it. With a lot of effort, they finally get the door to close and they ran off. Prim was leading them at this point. She ran out of the corridor and didn't look back for one second. She had never seen anything so terrifying in her life.

They made it to the Gryffindor common room. They were all breathless from how much running they were doing. They almost couldn't tell the painting the password to get in because of how breathless they were. Prim finally felt like she could breathe now that she was out of that situation.

"What do they think they're doing?" Ron was the first to speak when they got back, "Keeping a thing like that locked up in a school."

"You don't use your eyes, do you?" Hermione glanced at him, "Didn't you see what it was standing on?"

"I wasn't looking at its feet! I was a bit preoccupied with its heads. Or maybe you didn't notice, there were three!" Ron defended himself. They started climbing the stairs to the dorms. Ron was right, though. How were they supposed to focus on its feet when it was distracting them with its three heads.

Prim knew this wasn't the right time, though, "Guys, this is not the time."

Hermione nodded, "Prim's right. But, it was standing on a trap door. Which means it wasn't there by accident. It's guarding something."

Prim scrunched her eyebrows together in confusion, "Guarding something?"

"That's right," Hermione said. Hermione straightened up, "Now, if you two don't mind, I'm going to bed before either of you come up with another clever idea to get us killed... Or worse, expelled!" She turned and went inside her and Prim's dorm room.

Ron stared after her, "She needs to sort out her priorities!"

Prim nodded in agreement, "Just a little." She followed the girl into their dorm room.

It was the next day and Prim had pushed what she saw in the back of her mind. She didn't need to focus on that right now. She had to focus on what she had to do today. Her and Oliver were going out to the courtyard so he could tell her about Quidditch. She got ready and met up with him. He was there waiting with a huge trunk and a bat of some kind. It seemed heavy. Although he insisted that he was fine carrying it by himself, Prim still helped him.

They carried the heavy trunk outside to the courtyard. The bright sun blinded her a bit, but she didn't let that slow her down. They walked out into the middle of the courtyard and set the trunk down. Prim took this as her opportunity to take a breather.

When she was ready, Oliver started his lesson, "Quidditch is easy enough to understand. Each time has seven players, three chasers, two beaters, one keeper and a seeker. That's you," He pointed at her. He opened up the trunk and picked up the red one, "There are three kinds of balls," He passed it to her and she caught it, "This one's called the Quaffle. Now, the chasers handle the Quaffle and try to put it through one of those three hoops," He gestured to the three hoops in the distance, "The keeper, that's me, defends the hoops. With me so far?"

Prim threw the ball back to him, "Maybe... Hopefully. What are those and are they going to kill me?" Prim pointed to the other balls that were being held in place by chains. There were squirming around and shaking the whole trunk.

Oliver put the Quaffle back. He handed her the bat, "You better take this," Prim took it. He bent down and released one of the balls. It flew up into the air and Prim watched it, "Careful now, it's comin' back," Oliver told her. The ball came back down and Prim quickly hit it with the bat. The ball soared off and through a hole a statue made with two swords. Oliver watched with an impressed look, "Eh, not bad, Potter, you'd make a fair beater... Uh-oh." The ball had come back. Oliver grabbed it and it knocked him to the ground. He wriggled around, trying to get it back into the trunk. After a bit of struggling, he succeeded.

"Um... What exactly is that?" Prim was talking about the aggressive ball.

"Bludger," Oliver explained, "Nasty little buggers," He strapped it back into place, "But you are the seeker, and the only thing I want you to worry about is this..," He opened up one of the tiny decorative shields and pulled out a ball, "The Golden Snitch."

Prim took the ball, "I think I like this ball better." Like the name said, it was golden. It was the size of a walnut and didn't seem as brutal as the other ball. It just seemed as harmless as a bouncy ball.

"Ah, you like it now. Just wait. It's wicked fast and damn near impossible to see." Oliver explained.

Prim looked at it with a puzzled expression, "What do I do with it?"

"You catch it..," He started, "Before the other team's seeker. You catch this, the game is over. You catch this, Potter, and we win."

She held it in the middle of her flat palm. It suddenly grew wings and it jumped into the air. Prim kept her eye on it as it flew around in front of her and then flew off, "Whoa."
