{4} Meeting New People
***
"You all right, Primrose? You seem very quiet." Hagrid asked the ginger-haired girl. They were back at the Leaky Cauldron after they had just gotten all of her stuff. Hedwig, what she named her owl, was in her cage, sitting on a chair across from her. Some of her boxes sat on top of the table and pushed to the side so they wouldn't be in her way. The Leaky Cauldron was empty, except for two or three people.
Primrose played with her food for a moment then looked at Hagrid, "He killed my parents, didn't he?" Hagrid looked up from his food to glance at the girl before looking down. Primrose brought a hand up to her scar, "The one who gave me this. You know, Hagrid, I know you do."
The tall man sighed and pushed his food away. He turned his body to face Primrose as he started, "First, and understand this, Primrose, 'cause it's very important. Not all wizards are good. Some of them go bad. A few years ago, there was one wizard who went as bad as you can go. And his name was V- His name was V-"
She looked at him with confusion in her eyes. Why couldn't he just say it? It's not like it's going to hurt him. Why is he so afraid? Primrose decided to ask him, "Why can't you say it? It's not like he's going to show up as soon as you say his name."
Hagrid nodded once, "All right," He leaned forward slightly and whispered, "Voldemort."
"Voldemort?" Primrose questioned. Her voice was a lot louder than Hagrid's had been. If anyone was paying attention then they would've snapped their heads to look at the girl. Hagrid shushed her loudly and she looked around to see if anyone was looking. Everyone seemed to be minding their own business, they must've not heard her say his name.
"It was dark times, Primrose, dark times," Hagrid had a faraway look on his face. Like he was remembering everything Voldemort did, "Voldemort started to gather some followers, brought 'em over to the dark side. Anyone that stood up to him ended up dead. Your parents fought against him, but nobody lived once he decided to kill 'em. Nobody... Not one. 'Cept you."
Primrose was shocked. She looked at Hagrid with wide eyes, "Me? Voldemort tried to kill... Me?" Why would he try to kill her? Killing a baby was just inhumane. This Voldemort seemed like a very evil, and slightly scary, guy.
Hagrid nodded, "Yes. That ain't no ordinary cut on your forehead, Primrose. A mark like that only comes from being touched by a curse and an evil curse at that."
She asked the question that had been on her mind for awhile, "Well, what happened to... To You-Know-Who?" Hagrid had been using past tense when talking about the man. Something must've happened to him.
"Well, some say he died. Codswallop in my opinion," Even if this was a serious moment, Primrose wanted to laugh. What kind of word was 'codswallop'? She has never heard it in her life! "Nope, I reckon he's out there, still, too tired to carry on. But one thing's absolutely certain. Something about you stumped him that night. That's why you're famous. That's why everybody knows your name. You're the girl who lived."

Hagrid and Primrose walked into King's Cross Station. They were up on on of the crossing bridges and were trying to get to her train. Primrose stood on her tiptoes slightly because she was too small to see over her luggage on her cart. It truly was a sad world... "What're you looking at?" Primrose heard Hagrid say. She looked over to see a man and woman staring at him with suspicion. They quickly walked away when they had been called out. Hagrid got out his watch, "Blimey, is that the time?" The two stopped walked and Hagrid looked down at Primrose, "Sorry, Primrose, I'm gonna have to leave you. Dumbledore'll be wanting his- well, he'll be wanting to see me. Now, uh, your train leaves in 10 minutes. Here's your ticket," He handed her the ticket, "Stick to it, Primrose, that's very important. Stick to your ticket."
Primrose studied the ticket in hr hand. It was gray and had gold detailing on it. It was very pretty. At the top said, 'LONDON to HOGWARTS for ONE WAY travel.' Primrose stared at the platform number with a puzzled expression, "What? Platform nine and three-quarters? But, Hagrid, there isn't a platform nine and three-quarters," She looked up and noticed that Hagrid was gone, "Hey, where'd he-" Her voice was quiet and she cut herself off. She let out a small sigh and continued to where the trains were.
A man with dark skin and a suit rushed by her. He looked at her and said, "Sorry." Then continued on his way.
Prim looked to see a man talking with a woman. The woman had bushy brownish blondish hair. She had a little girl in her arms and she was talking to him. The man had on a uniform so he must've worked here. Prim made her way to him, "Excuse me, excuse me," He directed the woman and she left. Primrose stopped in front of him, "Excuse me, sir. Do you know where platform nine and three-quarters is?"
The man stared at her incredulously, "Nine and three-quarters? Think you're being funny, do ya?" He rolled his eyes and walked away from the girl. What was she supposed to do now? She was going to be late to her train and end up getting stuck here all because she didn't know where it was.
"It's the same year after year. Always packed with Muggles, of course. Come on." Primrose heard a female voice say. She looked to see a woman with ginger hair walking by. She was holding onto a little girl's hand and behind her was four boys. All of the had ginger hair... They must be related.
"Muggles?" Primrose asked. The woman must know where to go if she uses the word muggle. It was very unlikely that a person without magic would say it.
"Platform nine and three-quarters this way," The woman called out. Primrose pushed her cart and she walked behind a boy who looked her age. The woman stopped beside of a column with the numbers ten and nine. "All right, Percy, you first," The tallest boy stopped a few feet in front of the column then ran straight at it. Primrose's mouth dropped open when he disappeared into it. How was that possible? No one even seemed to notice what had happened. She gestured for the next boy, "Fred, you next."
One of the identical twins yelled, "He's not Fred, I am!"
"Honestly, woman, you call yourself our mother." The other twin said.
The mother sighed, "Oh, I'm sorry, George."
The first twin turned to his mother and smiled, "I'm only joking. I am Fred." Fred ran through the wall and George went right after him.
Primrose shook her head to bring her back to her senses. She rushed towards the woman who had her arm around her daughter's shoulders. She would probably help her get onto the platform. "Excuse me," Primrose called out. The woman walked over to her and Primrose felt a warm feeling. The way she looked and smiled at her made her feel happy, "Um, could you tell me how to... You know..."
"How to get on the platform? Yes, not to worry, dear. It's Ron's first time to Hogwarts as well," She gestured over to the boy who was most likely her age. Ron smiled at her and she smiled politely at him, "Now, all you've got to do is walk straight at the wall between platforms nine and ten. Best do it at a bit of a run if you're nervous."
The little girl smiled at Primrose as well, "Good luck."
Primrose stood a bit away from the column. She made sure she was standing between nine and ten. She took a deep breath and ran straight at the wall. Hopefully she was doing this right so she wouldn't look like a complete idiot. She closed her eyes and opened them again when she heard talking. She had made it! She sighed with relief as the whistle blows.

The ginger-haired girl stared out of the window of the compartment she was in. They were near a lake and there were plenty of mountains on the other side of it. It looked really beautiful to her. She was sitting by herself at the moment because she didn't want to intrude on everyone else. She was also a very awkward person and found it hard to talk to people she didn't know well. "Excuse me, do you mind?" Primrose looked over to see Ron standing in the doorway, "Everywhere else is full."
Primrose shook her head with a smile, "Not at all."
The ginger boy smiled and walked inside the compartment. He sat in the seat across from Primrose and stared at her, "I'm Ron, by the way. Ron Weasley." He introduced. Primrose remembered him. He was the son of the kind lady who helped her get on the platform.
Primrose nodded at him and smiled, "I'm Primrose. Primrose Potter." She moved some of her hair behind her ear. Hopefully, she could make friends with Ron. He seemed really nice, a lot nicer than most of the kids she had met before.
Ron's eyes widened at the sound of her name. His mouth was dropped open as he looked at her in shock. Primrose felt a little nervous under his gaze. He hesitantly asked her, "So-so it's true? I mean, do you really have the... The..." Ron pointed to his forehead.
"The what?" Primrose questioned him. She didn't seem to get what he was meaning. He couldn't seem to get the words out. He still seemed to be in so much shock from finding out who she was.
Ron leaned forward slightly and whispered, "The scar?" Primrose mouthed an, 'Oh' and she moved her hair out of the way to reveal the scar. It wouldn't have been noticeable if she hadn't moved her hair out of the way.
Ron leaned back in his seat, "Wicked." Primrose laughed a little at his response. This boy seemed really amusing. She could already tell that they were going to be great friends. She loved someone with a sense of humor.
A woman with a trolley full of candy stopped in front of their open compartment, "Anything off the trolley, dears?" Primrose's mouth almost dropped open at the sight of all the candy. She was never allowed to eat candy at the Dursleys. They forbid her from even looking at it. She would usually stay home with Mrs. Figg while Petunia and Vernon took Dudley out trick-or-treating on Halloween. She still would sneak some candy into her cupboard without them knowing, though.
Ron looked disappointed. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a smushed up sandwich. It was wrapped up in a bag, "No, thanks, I'm all set." He smiled at the woman.
Primrose noticed his disappointed look. She thought for a moment before turning to the woman, "We'll take the whole lot!" She reached into her pocket and took out a handful of coins that she had gotten from the vault. Primrose just wanted to do something for her new friend.
Ron looked at the coins in her hand with slight surprise, "Whoa," They had gotten all of their candy from the trolley and the woman left them. They were now sitting in the same seat together and was looking through the mountain of sweets. Ron's rat was also sitting with them and had his head stuck in a box. Primrose wanted to laugh at the sight. "Do you have a nickname, Primrose?" Ron inquired. Primrose shook her head and Ron gave her a surprised look, "You've never had a nickname? Not one?" Primrose shook her head again. Ron had a thoughtful look and he said, "I'm going to call you Prim from now on and that can be your nickname."
Primrose smiled, "Okay," Her smile lit up her whole face and her eyes sparkled. She's never had any friends to actually give her a nickname before. It felt great. She felt happier than she ever as just by the tiny gesture. Primrose, now Prim, picked up a box of candy and looked at it in confusion, "Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans?"
"They mean every flavor," Ron said. He took a bite of the candy in his hand. He listed off a few of the flavors that they had, "There's chocolate and peppermint, and there's also spinach, liver and tripe. George sweared he got a bogey-flavored one once!" Prim had a look of slight disgust at this. She set the box down, not really wanting to take the chance and end up getting a bad one.
A blue and gold package caught Prim's eyes and she grabbed it. It was blue with beautiful gold designs. The text really caught Prim's attention, "These aren't real chocolate frogs, are they?" She asked. She was hoping not. If so, then witches and wizards eat really weird things.
"It's just a spell," Ron assured her, "Besides, it's the cards you want. Each pack's got a famous witch or wizard. I got about five hundred myself," Prim pulled the string of the package and it opened. She jumped when a chocolate frog jumped out of the box and onto the window, "Watch it," The frog climbed up the window until it reached the open gap. It jumped out and Prim's eyes widened, "Oh, that's rotten luck. They've only got one good jump in them to begin with."
Prim looked down at the card, "I got Dumbledore!" It was almost scary how real the image looked. It looked almost three-dimensional.
"I got about six of him." Ron told her, making her look up at him.
Prim looked down at the card again. Dumbledore was gone and it was just black where he once was. Prim looked at the card closer and narrowed her eyes at it, "Hey, he's gone! Where'd he go?"
Ron shrugged at her question, "I don't know where he went, but you can't expect him to hang around all day, can you?" Ron's rat squeaked, catching their attention, "This is Scabbers, by the way, pathetic, isn't he?"
"Just a little bit." Prim replied. Rats had always kind of freaked Prim out a little. The only reason she wasn't freaked out now is because the rat amused her. Any other time, she would be freaking out a little bit.
Ron looked down at the rat, "Fred gave me a spell as to turn him yellow," He looked back up at Prim, "Want to see?"
Prim nodded, wildly, "Yeah!"
Ron grabbed his wand and cleared his throat, "Sun-" Ron stopped.
A girl appeared in front of their compartment. She looked inside and looked disappointed. She was wearing the girl's uniform already with their robes. She had bushy brown hair. She looked at the two of them, "Has anyone seen a toad? A boy named Neville's lost one."
"No." Ron responded while Prim shook her head.
Hermione noticed that Ron was about to do magic and said, "Oh, are you doing magic? Let's see then."
Ron cleared his throat again, "Sunshine, daises, butter mellow, turn this stupid fat rat yellow!" He zapped Scabbers and the box flew off of his head. The rat was not yellow, meaning that the spell didn't work. Ron turned to Prim and shrugged.
"Are you sure that's a real spell? Well, it's not very good, is it?" Hermione stated. Ron looked at Prim and gave her a look. "Of course I've only tried a few simple spells myself, and they've all worked for me. For example..," Hermione sat across from Prim and pulled out her wand. She pointed her wand at Prim's glasses which for forgot that she had on. Her contacts were in her bag and she didn't feel like getting them out. She would get them out when the train stopped, "Oculus Reparo," The glasses mended and the piece of tape on the bridge disappeared. Prim took the glasses off and stared at them with amazement, "That's better, isn't it?" Hermione finally seemed to notice who she was, "Holy Cricket, you're Primrose Potter. I'm Hermione Granger."
Prim cut in with a smile, "Just call me Prim."
Hermione nodded with a smile and turned to Ron, "And you are?"
"I'm... Ron Weasley." Ron's mouth was full of candy so it sounded muffled when he spoke.
"Pleasure," Hermione said. She looked back at Prim, "You two better change into your robes. I expect we'll be arriving soon," Hermione got up from the seat and went to leave the compartment. She stopped and looked at Ron, "You've got dirt, on your nose, by the way, did you know? Just there." She pointed to the side of her nose to show him. Ron scratched the dirt on his nose with an embarrassed look.
