{3} Diagon Alley
***
Primrose and Hagrid walk down the busy streets of London. How they haven't gotten any weird looks yet is beyond Primrose's understanding. I mean, a girl wearing baggy boys clothes that look way too big for her and a man who was most definitely over seven feet tall? They're bound to get some people staring at them, but nope. They were all just going on with their lives.
Primrose stared down at the supply list that came with her acceptance letter, "All students must be equipped with... One standard size two pewter cauldron and may bring, if they desire, either an owl, a cat or a toad," Primrose was slightly confused. How would they find all of this? "Could we really find all this in London?" Primrose looked up at Hagrid.
Hagrid bent down slightly and said in a low voice, "If you know where to go." He gave her a smile and Primrose knew that she was in for something amazing. Something about his smile gave her that impression. How right she was. They walked to a corner store that was mostly black. There was a faded sign with the words, 'The Leaky Cauldron,' on it. Hagrid opened the door for her and they walked inside.
It wasn't like an ordinary store that you would see. It was darker inside because the room was lit up with candles. Why didn't they just use lights? Primrose moved over so Hagrid could walk in. He closed the door behind him and Primrose took another look around. The store actually seemed to be a bar of some kind. It didn't look modern at all. The people also dressed in robes and had funny hats on. Primrose could hear them laughing and music playing. Hagrid lead her through the many people in the room.
A man suddenly spoke, "Ah, Hagrid! The usual, I presume?" The man didn't wear a robe, but an old-looking suit. His hair was wild and he had a smile on his face. He was standing behind the counter with a bunch of drinks behind him.
Hagrid shook his head in response, "No thanks, Tom. I'm on official Hogwarts business today," Hagrid glanced down at Primrose and put a hand on her shoulder, "Just helping young Primrose here buy school supplies."
Tom just then seemed to notice her. He looked at the young girl in shock, "Bless my soul. It's Primrose Potter." Primrose looked at him with surprise as he said her full name. How did he know who she was? The pub instantly became silent at Tom's statement and they all looked over at the red-haired girl.
A man with long hair and a smushed hat came over to her. He grabbed her hand and shook it with a big smile, "Welcome back, Ms. Potter, welcome back."
An older woman with her hair up in her hat shook her hand as well, "Doris Crockford, Ms. Potter. I can't believe I'm meeting you at last." Primrose was even more puzzled than before, but still smile politely at everyone. Why were they all glad to see her? She had never met any of them. How did they all know her name when they never met before?
A younger man in a robe and turban came over to her this time, "Primrose P-Potter. C-Can't tell you how pleased I am to meet you."
"Hello, Professor," Primrose looked up at Hagrid when he spoke. This man was a professor? "I didn't see you there," Hagrid glanced at Primrose, "Primrose, this is Professor Quirrell. He'll be your Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher at Hogwarts."
"Oh, it's really nice to meet you." Primrose held out her hand for him to shake. If he was one of the teachers going to be teaching her then she wanted to be on good terms. She didn't want to be rude and he get the wrong impression of her.
Professor Quirrell refused and held his hands together. He had them close to his body and just stared at her hand, "F-Fearfully fascinating subject. N-Not that you need it, e-eh, Potter?" Primrose dropped her hand and smiled awkwardly at him. He let out a nervous laugh.
"Yes, well, must be going now. Lots to buy." Hagrid looked around at all of the other people in the pub. They still had yet to say a word. They all just looked at her and had bright smiles on their faces.
"Bye." Primrose said to everyone. The two walked all the way to the back room with Hagrid leading the way. In the back room was grapes and some barrels. Must be a winery.
"See, Primrose, you're famous!" Hagrid walked over to the back wall.
Primrose nodded, "I saw, but how am I famous?" She thought back to when they were inside. It was very strange how everyone knew her. Also, how it instantly got quiet at the sound of her name, "Everyone back there knew who I was, but how?"
Hagrid looked down at her, "I'm not exactly sure I'm the right person to tell you that," Hagrid got out his umbrella and tapped the brick wall in a clockwise motion. They waited for a moment until the bricks started to move! Primrose watched in amazement as the wall split, "Welcome, Primrose, to Diagon Alley," In front of them now was a very long street with tons of shops. People in robes and strange hats walked around looking through shop windows. Primrose grinned widely as she walked onto the cobblestone street, "Here's where you'll get your quills and ink, and over there all your bits and bobs for doing your wizardry."
Hagrid pointed at the different shops as they walked down the narrow street. This was like a place that Primrose would dream out. It was just so beautiful and absolutely amazing! They passed by a shop where owls watched them as they passed. There were even bats outside the shop as well! Primrose walked by a shop with a broom that looked so cool. It was very shiny and looked a bit expensive.
A boy spoke about it with amazement in his voice, "It's a world class racing broom. Look at it, it's the new Nimbus 2000! It's the fastest model yet"
Suddenly, Primrose was left with one question, "But, Hagrid, how am I possibly going to pay for all of this stuff? I don't have any money."
"Well, there's your money, Primrose," Hagrid pointed to the fancy building in front of them. It was stone and had columns that almost looked white. On the top of it said, 'GRINGOTTS BANK,' "Gringotts, the Wizard Bank. Ain't no place safer, 'cept perhaps Hogwarts."
They walked inside of the bank and Primrose was still very impressed. The interior was a lot better than the exterior in her opinion. The floor looked spotless and the columns inside looked even more clean than the floor. There were chandeliers hanging above them that had some cobwebs on them, but that didn't bother her. There was one thing that really stood out to Primrose, "Uh, Hagrid, what exactly are these things?" There were a bunch of small people walking around. It hurt Primrose to admit that she was almost the same height as them. She was just a little bit taller. They had pointed ears and large noses as well as a sharp-toothed smile.
"They're goblins, Primrose," Hagrid replied, "Clever as they come goblins, but not the most friendly of beasts. Best stay close," Primrose did as he said and stayed close to his side. They approached the goblin who seemed to be in charge. Hagrid cleared his throat which caught the goblin's attention, "Ms. Primrose Potter wishes to make a withdrawal."
The goblin stood up in his seat and peered down at the girl, "And does Ms. Primrose Potter have her key?" A key? Of course, you would need a key to get into a vault. She had completely forgotten. The problem was that she didn't have a key. Primrose gulped as she tried to think of what to do.
"Oh. Wait a minute. Got it here somewhere," Primrose let out a breath of relief. The goblin turned to Hagrid and sat back down in his seat. Hagrid pulled out a sparkling gold key, "Hah. There's the little devil," Hagrid leaned forward and whispered to the goblin, "Oh, and there's something else as well," He took out a letter with a string on it. Primrose stood a bit straighter trying to see what it said, but she was still too short, "Professor Dumbledore gave me this," He handed it to the goblin, "It's about you-know-what in vault you-know-which."
The goblin gave him a small nod, "Very well."
The goblin ended up getting another goblin called Griphook to take them to the vaults. They got into this weird cart which didn't look like a cart, but it also did. It had a lamp behind Hagrid so they would be able to see. The vaults were down in what looked like a cavern of some type. It certainly caught Primrose's interest.
Griphook stopped the cart, "Vault 687. Lamp, please," He was the first to get out and he stared at Hagrid, expectantly. Hagrid reached behind him and gave Griphook the lamp. Griphook walked over to the vault with Hagrid and Primrose trailing behind him. "Key please." Hagrid took the lamp from him and handed him the key.
Griphook unlocked the vault and there was creaking sounds. The door to the vault slowly opened and Primrose was in shock. The vault was filled with coins, nearly top to bottom. There was so much that they shun a golden light whenever the lamp light hit them.
Hagrid turned to Primrose with an amused face, "Didn't think your mum and dad would leave you with nothing now, did ya?" Primrose got as much coins as she thought she needed and then they went back to the cart. They went to the other vault that Hagrid seemed very secretive about.
"Vault 713." Griphook said in his nasally voice.
"What's in there, Hagrid?" Primrose asked. This vault seemed to be a lot bigger than the rest of them. It was also near the very back of the cavern.
"Can't tell you, Primrose. It's Hogwarts business. Very secret." Hagrid told her.
"Stand back." Griphook advised them. They stepped away slightly and Griphook held his finger a few inches away from the door. His finger slid down the door and they could hear clicking from behind it. It must've been very well protected. The door opened and it revealed a small package tied up with string. It was sitting on a pedestal and didn't seem that important to her. Hagrid walked into the vault and grabbed it.
Hagrid stuffed it inside of his coat, "Best not mention this to anyone, Primrose." Primrose nodded in agreement.

The two were back out in the street trying to find the rest of the supplies that Primrose needed. She had got mostly everything she was required to bring. Except for a pet and a wand from the looks of it, "I still need...a wand." Primrose informed Hagrid.
"A wand? Well, you'll want Ollivanders," He pointed to a store nearby, "No place better. Why don't you run along there and wait. I just got one more thing I got to do. Won't be long." Hagrid left her standing in front of the store and took off to do whatever he needed.
Primrose walked inside of the shop and heard the bell above the door go off. She closed the door behind her and sat down the packages that she was carrying. She looked around at the shelves that seemed to be filled with wands. There was nobody around which put her slightly on edge. It always made her feel awkward to be by herself in public. Primrose walked up to the counter and softly called, "Hello? Excuse me?"
A man standing on a ladder came into her line of vision. He analyzed her for a moment before finally smiling. "I wondered when I'd be seeing you, Ms. Potter," He said. He stepped down off the ladder and Primrose got a better look at him. He had wild gray hair and sideburns along with bushy eyebrows. He looked through the many wands in his collection, "It seems only yesterday that your mother and father were in here buying their first wands. Ah," He grabbed a wand and walked over to her. He took off the top and handed it to her, "Here we are," Primrose held it in her hand, not really knowing what to do, "Well, give it a wave,"
Primrose jumped slightly and hesitantly waved it. She jumped back when the wands from the shelves behind Ollivander came shooting out. Primrose quickly set the wand down on the counter, "Apparently not," Ollivander got another wand and handed it to her, "Perhaps this," She waved it and a vase with flowers shattered making water spill everywhere, "No, no, definitely not," Primrose placed the wand down on the counter carefully, "No matter..," Ollivander came back with another wand and handed it to her. She held it in her hand and it just felt right. Suddenly, it started to glow and it blew her hair around. After a moment, the wind went away. Ollivander looked deep in thought, "Curious, very curious."
Primrose moved her hair out of her face and looked at him, "What's curious?"
Ollivander took the wand from her and studied it, "I remember every wand I've ever sold, Ms. Potter. It just so happens that the phoenix, whose tail feather resides in your wand gave one other feather, just one other. It is curious that you should be destined for this wand when its brother gave you that scar." Ollivander pointed at the lightning bolt scar on her forehead.
"Who owned the wand?" Primrose questioned, curiously.
Ollivander spoke softly and quietly, "Oh, we do not speak his name. The wand chooses the wizard, or witch in your case, Ms. Potter. It's not always clear why, but I think it is clear that we can expect great things from you. After all, He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named did great things...terrible, yes, but great." He handed Primrose the wand back and walked back behind the counter, out of sight.
There was knocking on the window, "Primrose! Primrose," Primrose looked over to see Hagrid, "Happy birthday!" Her gaze shifted to what was in his hand. It was one of the owls that was staring at them before. It was in a cage with silver bars. It was white and had black spots. It was absolutely beautiful.
"Woah." Primrose smiled.
