Chapter 5: Sara
So, slight spoilers for the novella about Corriane here. But anyway, look at this beautiful new prospective that isn't that long but oh well. New perspective, enjoy! 😈
I remember yesterday's execution. Julian and I were forced to watch it by the boy who calls himself king. Wretched child. I was shocked to find the lightning girl in the arena. How could she be killing them? Julian told me she loved his nephew. And her family. They clearly seemed to care for each other. Many Reds died and were dying in their blood. Poor Cameron. She was a wonderful girl. When all were dead or almost so and Julian's nephew was the only one standing Julian began to shake. Cal was his last bit of Corriane. Mine too.
As the three devious young females approached him, the Red girl suddenly stopped. She fell to her knees. She shook her head, as if to rid bugs. Or I realized, someone. I had seen this behavior before. Corriane was tortured by Elara, forcing her to die, making her brain writhe. A Merandus whisper was behind this girl's strange attitude. I could tell Julian noticed too, as his shakes became sobs. He was loosing a nephew, Corriane, and his pupil to this. I embraced him in order to comfort him in his nephew's last moment. Suddenly the girl lost control again and electrocuted his nephew.
I saw when they all left. When the king and the red girl argued about her disobedience. Then the Merandus forced the girl to black out. When my dear niece, Wren, I believe, came in and stopped the large blood flow from Cameron. The Sentinels shoved her into the cell with an excellent view of the bowl of bones. My cell.
"Sara?" she said, coughing up blood.
"What a sentimental reunion," a voice said. Cameron glared up at Elara's wretched spawn. "I would have killed you all, but you serve far more important purposes."
"Like what, your bloody highness?" Cameron muttered.
"Like bait. And silent stone," said Julian. Cameron was a silencer. She could make silent stone, but stronger silent stone than a Sliver would. And Julian was bait. The girl, no, Mare loved him. I was just there to keep Julian in check if need be. It was blantly obvious.
"Good job Julian," said the Merandus spawn, as if Julian wasn't years in his senior. "Hello Skonos." He glares at me with the same venom Elara did to Corriane. In this instance, I'm glad I have no tongue. I don't want to humor the boy who calls himself king, with an answer. "Pity you can't talk. I was hoping that you can scream." Julian grabs me, protecting me, or at least he thinks he is. "I don't know what you see in her Julian. But she'll be fun. That is, if you don't listen Julian." He clucks his tongue. Julian grabs the bars in fury, and I make a soothing sound deep in my throat, to tell him it's ok. "But for now, I have no use for you. But you newblood, can be of use to me." He motions for her to be dragged into a cell opposite, with cement. She is chained to the wall. Her blood will make the most powerful silent stone ever created. A Sentinel stabs her in the stomach and she screams. I so desperately want to help her. "Make sure we have it done soon. My pet needs a new leash," he tells the Sentinels. I have no doubt that he means the girl, Mare Barrow. Cameron glares at the king.
"I see why Barrow hates you. You're more obnoxious than she is." The king ignores her but turns to Julian.
"You know something, Lord Jacos. In another world we would have gotten along. I bet you loved my touch of dramatic irony in the arena. Love kills. Love is a weakness." He laughs, leaving all of us weak with despair.
