Chapter One
Helen grabbed Mrs. Norris and went out into the common room, seeing a usual sight. Remus Lupin laid out on the couch reading a new book each week, it was the first year they were allowed to go into Hogsmeade and he would rather read a book, Helen grabbed the book out of his hands and begun to read it, "It struck me then that I was injuring him again. It occurred to me that this could be an even deeper injury than what I had done before." She put the down putting the bookmark in it before closing it. "What are you reading?"
"A separate peace, it's a muggle book, now please give it to me." Helen gave him the book back, "Why aren't you with idiot one and two?"
Remus laughed at the names before making sure the bookmark was in the right place, "I didn't want to go to Hogsmeade, saw no reason."
"I'm not going to try to convince you so have fun reading all day." Helen saw Lily come down, the two locked arms said goodbye to Remus, and continued their way to Hogsmeade. "What does your mum sell?"
"A bit of everything, paints, taffy that tastes awful, hand mitts, and other stuff."
The two girls arrived outside of Pinkleton's Pinkle-tons, Helen opened the door to the shop for Lily. Helen expected the shop to empty, she saw three students in there, which made LIly and Helen both roll their eyes. James Potter and Peter Pettigrew. James seemed to have no care for the shop or its inside but Peter was buying most of Leda's taffy. Helen had never met someone who liked the taffy besides Leda herself. After the purchase, they left together.
"Mum, this is Lily." Leda climbed over the boxes behind the counter to shake Lily's hand. "How are you, two girls?"
"We're great Ms. Pinkleton, you're daughter is the only reason I haven't failed History." Lily wrapped an arm around Helen as Mrs. Norris ran around the shop.
"History of Magic was always a bore to me, anything like that was was boring, mythology, kings and queens, history of the ministry, nothing ever stuck." Leda went back behind the counter putting the money away.
"Well, I don't understand how Severus Snape and you are top of the class in potions." Helen sat on the counter before her mother pushed her off.
"It's just like baking or cooking if you follow the directions then you'll end up with a good result."
"Severus Snape, those boys that were just in here were talking about a Snivellus Snape, I'm assuming it is the same person." Lily's posture and facial expression tensioned at that nickname.
"The only reason the boys call him that is that James Potter is an ignorant bully who is jealous of Severus since both of them like Lily." Helen didn't appreciate how the other three boys blindly followed him.
"At least he's cute." Leda laughed and smiled, trying to bring some light to it.
"He doesn't need an ego boost." Both of them said in unison.
"Shouldn't you girls be going somewhere else? I'm sure that there are plenty more things to do." Lily and Helen walked out, seeing Marlene and headed in her direction.
"Lily, we need to go into potions at the same time, we need to sit together." Helen didn't want to be left alone next to some random student.
"But Severus said he wants to sit next to me."
"But Severus can go suck-" Lily shot her a glare which made Helen shut up.
"Maybe Slughorn will have it set up different this year." The girls entered the class together, seeing that it was three cauldrons together, Severus was already at one, Lily went to go stand next to him while Helen talked to a nearby Hufflepuff knowing that many people wouldn't want to be with Severus.
Helen thought this until she turned around and saw that the third spot was taken, she almost gasped out loud when she saw who it was. James Potter, a known enemy of Severus Snape, willingly choose a spot near him. Lily groaned, not wanting to deal with the bickering of the two.
Helen wanted to cry, Lily was her only saving grace, she looked around knowing that Remus Lupin was also a smart student, however, the other two spots were filled by Sirius Black and Marlene Mckinnon.
Helen then looked for Alice, she saw that Alice was with Franka and Dorca. She then just looked for an empty spot, she ended up sitting next to the quietest of the four troublemakers of the school.
"Pettigrew right?" Helen put her textbook down.
"Yea." Slughorn began to go on about the Girding Potion, Helen tried to follow but gave up.
"Now it's your turn, you will work together and use only one cauldron." Helen stared at the cauldron in front of her.
"I don't know what I'm doing." Peter opened his textbook to the right page.
"We're in this together." The two managed to have to dump their cauldron out three times before getting to the fourth step.
Helen heard that Severus, Lily, and James managed to not kill each other and finished first, Lily and Severus left together as Helen called out for her friend.
James walked over to them seeing that they were struggling, "Wow, betrayed by your best friend, can't imagine how that feels." He started messing with their ingredients.
"At least Lily likes me, give that back." Helen knew that they were so close to finishing if the potion was only mediocre.
"Lily loves me, she just doesn't know it yet." James handed it over, as Sirius and Remus walked over. Remus started to sneakily help them, wanting his friend to hurry up until Slughorn told them to leave the two alone.
Helen put in the flying seahorses and waited, clapping then it turned green. The mixture smelled of vomit and made her almost throw up herself, but she was happy that it was over with. Slughorn told them it was good enough, Helen picked up her book, "Until next time Pettigrew."
