Chapter Four: Power Within
Ashden's POV:
That day when that letter came it shocked me. My sister asked me to come home but I just couldn't. It's been two years since then and I have finally decided to take Aurora to Casterly Rock.
"Come along Little Wolf we haven't got all day we must reach the castle before night fall."
Aurora tried to ride faster to keep up with the me and my horse. What can I say I'm a fast rider.
"Can, we please stop; please"
Aurora begged gasping for air, as if she was losing all the oxygen she had.
Aurora's POV:
Ashden turned to look at me with a sly grin much like a fox. She never talked to me about what happened with that guy in the cave and that letter that I'm not allowed to see.
"Why? We're here."
She called as she began to speed up. What part of I can't keep up is this. She doing it on purpose I know she is, I know she's trying to get me to use my powers more but damn.
As we finally reached the door to the castle Ashden leaped off and sent her horse to the stable. Of course I tried to do the same but nothing.
It was then I with held the sight in front of me.
Ashden's POV:
"Home."
I whispered under my breath so Aurora couldn't hear as I looked at Aurora I could she was trembling at the sight of the castle.
"Come along we haven't got all day."
As we stepped into the foyer I felt all the memories of this retched place return in seconds. The smell was the same, the echoing sounds of what happened. The ghosts that appeared and vanished. God I hate this place, home or no home.
Aurora's POV:
Ashden face was much different she looked as if her whole life was streaming down her face but no tears fell and it was almost like it was freezing her cold stone heart even more.
"It's about time."
A chilling distant voice hissed from the top of the stairs. Ashden looked up and the figure jumped down. I couldn't see who it was the light in here is so damn dark.
They then began to greet each other in a strange language unknown to me. It was some sort of ancient language I knew that much.
I could see the shadowy figure look my way, over Ashden's shoulder. I felt like a helpless figure in Ashden's shadow.
"This is Aurora."
Ashden said finally breaking the silence.
The shaded creature stepped out of the shadows and said nothing. Instead she just studied me like a fossil and then she stared back at Ashden with cold blood-like eyes. Her eyes were a bright red.
"Aren't you going to introduce us dear sister"
She was like a red-eyed demon. When she spoke Ashden looked at her with such a fire that burnt through me but it didn't faze the shadow.
"Aurora meet my half-sister Arden."
Arden stared into Ashden's diamond eyes and you could almost see the fire building up but it was never going to melt Ashden's cold gaze.
"You mean you're better sister."
Ashden looked so annoyed at Arden's comment. I could see it as she turned to face me. Ashden didn't seem to like Arden very much I could feel the tension in the room grow over the course of their short conversation.
"Training room is down there next to the barracks come along Aurora; we'll leave Arden to play with the gargoyles."
Ashden spoke with a huge grin that crossed her face from ear to ear and Arden was not impressed she was scowling as we walked away.
Ashden's POV:
Arden and I watched Aurora fight and escape all the traps in the training room. I have to say on thing I have missed this training room.
It hasn't changed a bit.
"You know if Maleficent finds out it is you who is keeping her 'forbidden treasure' she will not be happy."
I rolled my eyes before turning to face her.
Arden's POV:
Ashden had a look that told me that she didn't care without her speaks one single syllable.
"She is but a child she has not said or done anything to her so."
She looked down at Aurora as she trailed her sentence this is when my sister is a mystery. She hates feelings but she cares too much.
Ashden's POV:
I looked down at Aurora and then back at Arden, she knew why as she finished my sentence.
"So you helped her despite are dear beloved sister."
She knows I hate her. She has only ever wanted power no matter how many and who she had to sacrifice or make suffer for her.
Arden's POV:
Ashden's face again giving me the answer to my question. Before she went back to watching Aurora.
"Does she know that we are related to Maleficent?"
Ashden turned her head sharply from Aurora's direction to mine.
"No! She will never know, I didn't want her to know we are related but."
Sensing Ashden's angry, I quickly said.
"Okay, I get it alright I'm sorry."
Ashden looked back down to Aurora after scowling at me.
"Aurora what are you looking at."
Aurora had stumbled upon the portrait that was covered by the old, torn curtain.
Ashden's POV:
"Is that your family?"
I gazed up from looking at her to behold the familiar faces of the portrait. I remember when that was painted how annoying it was that we all had to stay perfectly still and stand like we were a family.
"Yes that is our father, my mother, Arden's mother, Kanitro, Arden, me and my brother Asha."
Aurora yet again studied the images with admiring eye. She looked over every face, she kept looking at the eyes. For a family we all had different eyes.
White for me,
Red for Arden,
Green for well you know who,
Yellow for Asha,
Black for my father,
Purple for Kanitro,
Blue for my mother
And orange for Arden's mother.
Aurora's POV:
The eyes captured my attention for awhile. That was until my scanning lead my eyes to land on something different.
They lead me to see a black shape. Like it was another person but the face had been covered by a black shade.
"Who is that?"
I asked looking up at Ashden and Arden.
Ashden's POV:
I forced my gaze to see the face that was torn by pride.
"That was my sister my mother did that before she died. We do not and will never speak of her so please cover it up."
Aurora looked back at the painting with a curious face.
"Which one is your mom Arden, is she in the painting?"
Arden looked down at Aurora then at me before answering the question what happened to the rule.
"She is in the corner the other side of our father, Ashden's mother was ok with my mother. That's why they both in the picture."
Arden's POV:
I spoke quickly for I knew this matter hurt Ashden.
"Where are they now?"
She asked, damn she's very eager and inquisitive. How she has managed to work with Ashden I don't know she hates questions.
"Well our I mean, Ashden's mother died, our father disappeared after her death, my mother ran off with her lover, I stayed here with Asha he's up stairs or hunting in the woods knowing him he's a bit of a rebel or a trouble maker. Ashden left to get a job something that was like a honourable warrior or something like that. Kanitro left many years ago he doesn't get on well with Asha, I haven't seen him in years. As for she who must not be name or talked about well she turn to the darkness.
You see we all have unique abilities and we choose if we use them for good or bad as you can see we use them for good."
Ashden's POV:
I had walked away at this point as I could not bear to be reminded and I wanted to see my brother who hadn't made his entrance yet.
Knowing Asha he's probably sulking, Asha. God I have missed him and I guess I have missed Arden too even if she does drive me crazy.
Arden's POV:
"Where did Ashden go?"
Aurora finally said breaking the death stare and a deafening silence that had fallen between us.
"Why is it any of your business!"
Spoke an even colder icy voice then mine. Of course it could only be one person Asha.
Aurora spun round with trembling eyes to that familiar shape that only I and Ashden would know.
"Asha."
Called Ashden, from God knows were. He had flew in and sat on the banister across from me.
"Now brother where has that dear hostility as well as your respectful manners gone."
Asha looked away from Aurora and me to see Ashden lying on a beam that held the roof.
Great now I have to deal with two of them, he had a huge grin on his face and so did Ashden as she looked down at him.
"Noble Ashden back again."
